  1. Other than the obvious things, Fuel filter, air filters, plugs... Is there any thing that I should look at for replacement, while I will have the bike down to the frame here in a couple of weeks ( other than more time to spend on it and money, cooler weather ) I only need tips/hints , suggestions for the front from the side covers forward... The rear I have a good grasp on,,, getting rid of it....... Any thing that I really should do before I strip it down. Once I get every thing off for paint it pretty much becomes a door stop for a couple of weeks........
  2. Ok..now my rear shock has went BYE BYE! That's Texan for IT'S FUBARED. Noticed handling was not quite normal...looked under there, and voila..oil dripping off the shock. 21,444 miles. Took it into a dealer..they are supposed to be ordering me a new one...wonder how long this will take? My trip to Sturgis is about 7 weeks from now as I write this..(June 13th). I will have a little story to tell about this one I'm sure, but waiting till I get the new shock on before I will tell those stories...you never know who might read this and show it to those guys. SO, not mentioning names or details...yet. Stay tuned.
  3. I've installed a new battery on my Royal Venture 2006, after 2 weeks without using the motorcycle, there was not enough juice to start the machine, I went to the battery merchant who assured me the battery was good but still gave me a new one. I had the same problem again , back from a 2 weeks vacation the battery was dead. Not even enough juice to light anything. When it happended the first time I went to the Yamaha dealer who checked the battery and poles etc.... he told me the only juice the battery was pulling was from the clock which pulls 0.005 amp I wonder what is pulling the juice out so it won't start after 2 weeks witout using the motorcycle. Please help Thanks in advance Jacopo
  4. well it's been three weeks since my surgery. stitches are out, have a removable cast, and have very little pain.doc said seven more weeks to go. I WANNA RIDE!!!
  5. For the most part, my job is pretty slack-a$$'d .... I have the luxury of sitting around monitoring the network environment, swapping backup tapes, posting daily transactions, assisting users occasionally .... I basically can go days..sometimes weeks without even coming close to putting in a full day's work. Life is tough!! LOL That will all change in 2 weeks. I've just ordered 3 new servers running Win 2008 to replace 3 old servers, 6 new printers, and a new 1 Terrabyte backup device (actually 5 of them for swapping off-site). Looks like my slack-off time has come to an end... at least for a while ... Actually, it's a good thing coz a guy can get real bored and that seems to wear me out more than anything. The down side is, I won't have as much time to post so many snyde remarks on here LOL
  6. My wife and I are going to Delaware in a few weeks for a mission trip with the Church. That trip will take 6 days. I'm off for 2 1/2 weeks so I'm going to trailer the bike up. I want to leave Delaware and find a place where I can ditch the truck and ride for a few days. We want to see Niagra falls and any other interesting places around the area. We don't like crowded roads and will do almost anything to stay off the interstates. Any ideas will be helpful. Thanks in advance. PS I'm located in Tuscaloosa Alabama
  7. Just back from my appointment with the ortho surgeon, and he said the fixator can come off in two weeks. :dancefool::dancefool: I'm a happy little camper. Also have referral letter to see orthotics department about making some sort of leg/knee brace. This is gonna be a long two weeks!! But hopefully at the end of it I will get to "live" and not merely exist.
  8. well folks i may not be online here for a few weeks.. gotta take my computer in forgettin a virus evicted, so igotta use my oldcomputer.. it is slo and tempermental.. they said that they are runnin about two weeks behind right now.. and my new 22 inch monitor blew out.. so iguess we will see how long this monitor will last..
  9. Well, after 485 days in Iraq, it's time to resume my old life and start where I left off. I look forward to seeing the family on a daily basis, playing with the grandkids, walking barefoot in the green grass, and of course, riding my Venture with my lovely wife. I only got to ride about 2 weeks total since i left, and can't wait to grab some throttle and let the pipes make some noise. I hope to be able to make some rallies and M/E's this year. Thanks for your prayers and best wishes, they have certainly helped. Hope to see some of you soon and make new friends in the coming year. Mike
  10. Well its time, I have shoulder surgery in the morning. Not looking forward to it, but it'd be nice to have full range of motion back. Hopefully I'll be back up and riding soon, figures, the weather here is looking good for the weekend and I'll be outta of it for a few weeks....errrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  11. What's a good multimeter these days? Is there a better instrument than a multimeter? Prefer a digital readout. I had one and have been looking for it for a couple weeks now. I know where I usually keep it and where I had it last, but seems to have gotten up and crawled away.
  12. Since I am getting my new scoot next week, I am tossing around the idea of letting the 1st Gen go. A friend made me a REALLY good deal when I bought the 1st Gen, and I would like to pay it forward to someone who doesn't have much money to buy one, or has lost their scoot because of hard times. The scoot doesn't look quite as good as it does in my profile pic, but those here who have seen it can attest to the fact that it is still a pretty good looking scoot. I can supply recent pics upon request. Here are the details: '83 standard am/fm/cd player with upgraded speakers Luggage rack Trailer hitch Passenger floorboards Dunlop Elite 3s with 6k on them(LOTS of tread left) Replaced all of the brakes last spring when I got the tires. Battery is about 3 weeks old, with one year replacement warranty. Overall good condition, and I can get on it and ride it anywhere...if it would just warm up, lol. The bad: needs 2nd gear fix. Never bothered me much. I just usually skip 2nd. Fork seals leak. Could use fork rebuild and progressive springs. The scoot runs really well, and although not great, is in pretty good shape. I ride it to work(80 miles round trip) whenever the weather lets me. Last time was 2 weeks ago. I am willing to let it go for $1000. Does that sound like a fair price? I don't need it anymore, and I thought maybe I could help someone else out, rather than let it sit. If interested, let me know.
  13. Went to surgeon today to get the staples taken out of my back. Have to ware the back brace for 11 more weeks then go back in for x-rays to see if everything Ok. Then start physical therapy if all is fused properly. No quick fix.
  14. Well i guess i will start with some good news some of you may have read a few weeks ago my better half had fallen on some ice and broke her ankle. after i posted this story on here about the accident and her not having insureance you guys gave me some great advice and after alot of red tape and paper work we found the right program for us to resolve this problem.. 2 weeks ago during some intence training for the national guard getting ready for my up-coming deployment i tore my rotator cuff so now we are both kinda leaning on each other just to make diner (not that i mind) i love being close to her. but the bad news is im 3 years from retireing from the army... this may make it sooner if i cant get this fixed to "army standard" and im getting those feelings of letting my soldiers down i dont think im going to be able to deploy with them due to this injury. My doc says the recovery time and theropy is about a 9 month progress but as of now im non-deployable... so thats how my year has started off hope everyone else's is going better. Ron P.S. Yammer Dan I told Kelli what you said about doing what the doctor said or YOU would be coming after her.. she said ok and sat on the couch and propped up her ankle lol she dont listen to me like that?????
  15. Spent the night With my daughter Ashley and husband Coby at Conemaugh in Johnstown, Pa were she was taken by ambulance after a ultra sound indicated that the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck 4 times. Was later told the last weeks U S showed the cord being wrapped 3 times but did not tell her. They have diagnosed her with preeclampsia which she had early signs of and they had been testing her for two weeks before. Her blood pressure is high, too much protein in the urine, her platelets are too low and they are giving her magnesium for that. That being said, the Dr's. are trying to delay things until this evening with hopes the lungs will develop more with the help of yet another IV (steroid) added to the 5 others. This is her first pregnancy and she and her husband are frightened. They are prepared to do an emergency C if momma or baby have too much distress. They do need a lot of prayers! Regards Dave
  16. i have two cousins going to Daytona bike week later this month and are trailering their bikes down south. they are looking for a safe place to park a pickup truck and enclosed trailer for a couple of weeks. they will be heading down I-75. can anyone out there in the southern States help them with a place to park? cheers, Scott
  17. from him? It's been since the 16th of Jan. He said he'd be gone for 2 weeks.....I'm just suprised he hasn't checked in.
  18. Taters will be getting her new puppy...a basset hound..."Lilly"( already named by Taters) is 4 1/2 weeks old now and is full of -iss and vinegar:doh:....she is a lemon and white and her ears are enormous...sorry I cant get the pictures up, but ,I promise to get plenty on this site when we get her home...been working on a new safe place (pen) for her and I'm about 3/4 done:clap2:...These old bones just dont work so good any more..I'm so sore today, I can barely move:bawling:...found a woman with a litter of them in NY state..Bassets are hard to find around here...:confused24:In fact she is not to far from PP&J'S house in the finger lake area..well, just wanted to let every one know why I haven't been on the site lately, things just take me longer to do now a days...GETTING OLD really bites:yikes:...gonna take some advil and chill today...ouch!!!
  19. Finally got a chance to ride to work yesterday, was a balmy 43 when I left for work, 1st time in over a month I have ridden either of my bikes. Will be riding again today, it is 34 now ,still a lot better than it was for the past 4 weeks. Hopefully spring is just around the corner. .....................................................................................................
  20. It's not a big deal, I know, but I'm going into surgery tuesday for carpal tunnel and to fix my trigger finger (both on my left hand). It makes me a little angry because they say I'll not be riding the bike for probably 4-6 weeks. That will basically kill any potential riding (any the weather has been looking up of late) that I might have been able to do shortly, when they finish the paving job on our street. (haven't had the bike out at all, because of it for about 6 weeks now, as it is. I'm starting to get a little punchy) That's an inconvenience and a pain in the neck; I get that. What makes the hair on the back of my neck tingle is that the last time I had "minor" surgery, being sedated / anesthetised precipitated my heart attack a few days later. (a not uncommon occurrence or so they said [which by the way they didn't tell me until after the fact]). What is most irritating is the little, small, niggling, ill feeling I get when I think about it. I mean it just irks me that it happens. I know y'all know what I mean. ANYWAY, those of you who are willing.....if you would, drop my name in a prayer, tonight, just in case! Thanks! I really appreciate it.
  21. His name is Bear He's 9 weeks old. Half Shepard half Bernese Mountain Dog.
  22. Well, it's 38* this morning and I will be riding the bike over to my buddies place for winter storage and maintenance. Wish I would have washed her up real good on one of those nice days back in the first two weeks of Nov, but hey, I was hunting. Going to take advantage of the bike being gone to move the Bike Barn somewhere better where its more level. Will start next week with an oil change and deep cleaning.
  23. My wife decided she wanted to ride so she went to the ABATE safety course. She was top of her class. A couple weeks later she bought a 2000 Honda Shadow ACE 750 from some people she knows from work. She was doing good until she jumped a curb, didn't lay it down, she rode it out. Tore her ACL in her right knee. She rode it again this last weekend before we put it away for the winter. Having surgery on her knee in two weeks to repair the ACL. She'll be ready to ride by Spring. She's planning on riding it to Maintenance Day at Don's....... The above paragraph was posted on another thread awhile back. Sue had surgery yesterday on her knee to repair/replace the ACL she tore in her mishap. Everything went well and she is recuperating. She can't do a whole lot for awhile but she should be ready to ride again by Spring. Yes, I'm being the good husband and taking good care of her.
  24. Today i put the tci from my 93 into my 90 started right way so that was the problem sure a pain to do but now both will be on top of the airbox. Mine acted up for years it had a burp but then lately is been getting worse finally 3 weeks ago it quite for good. now well ride it like we stole it. Is there someone out there that repairs them, would like to get that bad one fixed... THANKS YOOPER
  25. well susan's ins comp. said they are dropping me at the first of the year, so on sept 29th, i'm going ahead and have my knee done and after recooping from it, i'm have my left leg fixed where it didn't mend after i broke it in my venture wreck in '05. it'll take about 5 or 6 weeks to recoop from my complete right knee replacement. on left, doc will take out old rod or nail as he calls it, ream out the bone and drive a bigger nail in. then he will clean out around the break where it didn't heal and put bone stem back around it to help it heals. 4-6 weeks recoop from that. i'll be out about 3 months if nothing goes wrong on either surgery or therapy. i do have short term disabilty that pays 60% of my pay and i have some vacation days to cover the first 7 days that it don't cover. have been putting back a little $s to carry me over hopefully. hope all goes well and i can still ride after it's all over, wish me well. thanks for your support, don.
