  1. Putting the finishing touches on my new motorcycle garage today and thought to myself I really need some music in here, since the xm radio in the Venture won't pickup in the garage thats out.Went into the storage barn and found an old stereo system that had been stored away for about 20 YEARS.Hooked it up and bingo!!!!!!Music!!!!!! Then I realized something, it matched my Venture........oh yeah......they both have cassette decks on them.Bad news!!!! I got rid of all my cassettes years ago. Oh well.
  2. Where do i find a 2nd gen manual or instructions for removing the fairing on 07 venture? Thanks
  3. I wonder if this is our ex member GigaWhiskey ? Seen in Dahlonega, GA recently.
  4. VentureRider.org member A report shows a probable esophageal cancer. He will be having surgery in the morning for a biopsy and they will also attempt to put in a feeding tube. The family appreciate the prayers thus far and ask for you to continue to remember him in your prayers. I meet him one afternoon at my wife's office and of course I was on my venture & we struck up a conversation. He invited me over to his shop to show me somethings he thought I needed to know. He really helped me in a lot of things about the Venture. He is the one who introduced me to this site. His love for riding really showed & his love on passing down what he has learned to a newbie was greatly appreciated ...So please say prayer for Big Bird......
  5. I just purchased a Venture tank for my RSTD to get the extra fuel capacity for trips. Is there anything special I need to know to swap it? In the pics, it looks like a direct swap. What do I use for a sealer for the petcock? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. R.
  6. Hi there. I am new to the site as well as (maybe) about to be new to a Venture. I'm thinking of buying an '84. What should I be looking for in terms of potential problems? I have heard that the stator can be expensive to replace... Thanks
  7. I am trying to change the fuel filter on my 1988 Venture and I can't locate it. Does anyone know where it is located?
  8. Stopped and talked to a couple of gentleman on the BRP yesterday, one was riding an 06 Venture real nice guy gave him a card hopefully he will check us out.

  10. I'm looking at adding collision to my Venture. Whats a good site for replacement value for insurance purposes?
  11. http://novascotia.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-touring-2-for-1-1983-YAMAHA-VENTURE-REDUCED-W0QQAdIdZ374867023 Really looking to purchase this bike, and do not need it all. Will be looking to part out most of it. Just wondering how much 83' parts are in need? Also, mine is an 84, so can someone tell me how much of this I can use on it? How interchangeable are the parts from 83 to 84? Thanks
  12. Well, seller accepted my offer for his '06, black cherry, venture today. Extremely happy....price seemed well below what I was finding on CL and I've slowly fallen in love with the color. I think the only mod's that have been done are the highway pegs and chrome guards around the saddle bags. All I plan on changing is adding a hitch, building/finding a trailer, and exhaust. Not sure if any on here have dyno'd their bikes after the slip on's...but see occasional posting about popping on decel. Since the harley dealer here in Cedar Rapids will give a "non-tune" dyno run for $50, I'll throw mine on there after the pipe swap (most likely to the road king mod to start) to see how Oxygen is and whether rejetting is in order. With the full headers on my Vmax...I only needed to shim needles, left main jets the same....so wouldn't be surprised if the Venture needed nothing. Oops also read on here I need to do something with the wiring to add the hitch, so will have to research that as well...and get parts on order.
  13. I was coming out of Aberdeen SD today at about 1:30 p.m. and I met a black Venture pulling a trailer headed west on U.S. Hwy 12. There isnt many ventures around here, and I thought I knew most all of them. Just wondering if it was anybody from this site. The trailer was a car top box mounted to trailer, and it looked pretty nice. I gave a good wave from my pickup truck but I doubt they saw me (split lane road).

  15. Hey Folks, Yesterday I was in a local Yamaha dealership and the manager told me that today, June 6th, Yamaha will be revealing to their dealers what the new bike lineup will be for 2013. Since I won't be back to that dealer for a week or so, I thought i would jump on here and ask if anyone has heard any news as to whether Yamaha is going to be doing any upgrades on the 2013 Venture? Anybody have a scoop on this?
  16. A long time ago a former member named Pyro told me about a book/story about some guy... I think his name was Patches I am not sure. It tells of his history working his way up to his favorite Venture and riding it across the country. Does anyone know the name of this story and where I can find it? Thanks in advance CG:fingers-crossed-emo
  17. Okay, here's the deal. My RSTD has been a wonderful bike. My wife and I have loved it to death, and have rode it on several long range rides that have ranged from weekend getaways to 2 week vacations. I haven't had a hiccups trouble with it, and I intend to keep it until the wheels fall. Having said that, I have been tossing around the idea of moving up to a full dresser before a 4000 mile ride we have planned to go on in September. So, this past Saturday, Victory had their Demo Tour truck at the local dealership close by, and I accepted their offer to ride the Victory Vision and the Victory Cross Country Tour. I first rode the Cross Country and was certainly impressed, then I rode the Vision and it was an even nicer experience. Those two bikes are awesome, well thought out machines that I think would be very capable rides for the two up touring that we do so much of. HOWEVER, the whole time I was riding both machines, I kept feeling like something was missing, or off. I racked my brain so hard about it that after I got back to the dealership from the second ride, I decided to ride them again. It was in the middle of the second ride that it finally dawned on me what was gnawing at me. IT IS THE 4 CYLINDER!!! The difference between the throttle response and characteristics of the 4 cylinder in my RSTD is what i was missing while riding the V-Twin thumper type bikes the Victory's are. To me, there was a marked decrease in performance even though the Victory's are state of the art ultra modern high tech V-Twin machines. I also had this nagging feeling that I just don't want to stray away from a liquid cooled bike. Someone tell me, is this what I am going to face if I continue to flirt with the idea of buying a v-twin touring bike? I know I could just buy a new Venture and settle it, but I struggle with loving the motor the Venture has, but feeling lack luster about spending new money on a machine that is still......dated somewhat. I wish to the good Lord that Yamaha would get off their haunches and update the Venture with features like fuel injection, heated grips and seats, and for crying out loud a this millennium sound system that doesn't include a cassette tape deck. Someone talk me off of the ledge here. Lol.
  18. The hips have arthritis, as do the neck and shoulders... too many years driving long haul trucks [45+yrs] The Venture was getting too heavy, so before any mishap I have changed bikes! A friend here wanted mine, and I wanted his...so we swapped I now ride an FJR Still consider myself a Venture rider, don't come in here much -- but I lurk LOL and get all the goings-on from Annie Stay safe everyone

  20. Barb and I got home Friday night from a 15 day, 3500 miles long trip. We rode down to the southern tip of Illinois and visited friends, then the 4 of us rode to Nashville. Our friends left for home, and we continued to our daughter's house near Mufreesboro TN. A couple of days with the grandsons, and also took our son-in-laws new Concours for a ride---but it started to rain pretty hard right after I left, so I headed back home. Nice bike though, sure is fast. We left our daughter's house and headed to Cleveland TN, where he jumped on some of the back roads. When we were enjoying the Cherohala Skyway when we came up on an old motorcycle doing all it could to climb the grade. We passed him and noticed that it was a 2 cylinder flathead V, but that's all I could tell for sure. We pulled off on the next overlook, and the other rider did also. It turned out that the bike was a 1919 Indian Scout, and the guy was touring on it!!! We continued on the skyway and turned onto North Carolina 129 just a bit south of where it becomes the Dragon. When we got to the Dragon, there were very few bikes (it was almost 6PM on a Tuesday), and that the police were running hand held radar further north near the straight section by the lake. There was one Venturerider.org member on a red 2006 Venture (I've forgoten his name...sorry). We still enjoyed another trip down the Dragon, or at least as much as you can with an 89 Venture 2 up and the bags packed to capacity. We never saw the cops, but because of the time of day probably they probably gave it up. We had dinner at a neat restaurant called "Hearth and Kettle Restaurant" (great food and prices and a sign by the register that reads "You never see a motorcycle parked in a Psychiatrists parking lot"). Then we rode through Pidgeon Forge and spent the night in Gatlinburg. It started to rain lightly just as we got to town, but we didn't get too wet. In the morning we walked around Galtlinburg and also rode the loop north of town---beautiful. Then we headed south to Cherokee N.C. and then southward on back roads to Hendersonville N.C. and then south into S. Carolina to meet up with Barb's cousin and his wife. They ride a new BMW 1600 GTL. We rode around with them on his favorite back roads, and then loaded both bikes back up and headed for Charleston S.C. On the way to Charleston, his legs started cramping on the BMW and he wanted to try our Venture, so we swapped for a bit. This was our 2nd ride on a BMW, we test rode one last year. The one last year had the short seat on it and it was terrible. This one had the tall seat, but actually it was only a little better. After 50 miles, I my butt was telling me that it wanted the good old Venture back. As I said last year, the BMW has tons of power, great brakes, and handling. The throttle by wire makes it a bit awkward to start without slipping the clutch too much or killing the engine. Something I noticed on this ride is that there is a lot of drive-line lash that makes itself known with a big "CLUNK" whenever you back off the throttle or roll it back on---way more than the Yammie. We got to Charleston ok, and the 4 of us plus Barb's other cousin and his wife (who live in Charleston) had a great visit with lots of laughs. Barb and I rode up to Myrtle Beach for the bike show on Saturday---it was mostly Harleys with a couple of Gold Wings and some crotch rockets thrown in for good measure. The only Venture I saw there was mine. On Sunday morning, we headed down to Hilton Head to see how the rich folks live and then south into Georgia. On Monday morning we rode south and touched Florida just east of the Okefenokee swamp. Then we headed up to Atlanta and visited other family for a couple of days. My cousin told me about Georgia route 52 between Elijah and Chatsworth. A beautiful road to ride if you are in the area. We headed up into TN. and spent a couple of days at our daughters again and headed home Friday. It was a great vacation and trip. We saw a lot of beautiful scenery, rode a lot of curvy roads, and the bike ran great. Even with a tropical depression off the coast near Charleston the most rain we had to deal with was a few drops on the windshield and then it was gone. Now it rained a couple of times hard, but we were stopped for the night already or we were at our daughter's house. Many times on this trip I looked up and gave thanks. Frank D.
  21. Caged over to my daughters yesterday afternoon for a birthday BBQ, and coming the other direction was a group ride of about 20 bikes. Looked closer and the ride captain's bike had eye brows on the fairing. Dang...a Venture!! Started looking at the other bikes in the group and there were about 8 of them that had the 'brows'. Cool.... It must have been a group from Star Riders 153 going somewhere... It was the most Ventures I'd seen since Cody... I checked the 153 calendar, and it said something about a 'Stary Night' event, but no info on it. That's where they must have been heading.... Wonder what it was...???
  22. I'm in the habit of leaving my cb on with squelch set to around 16 when I ride, even if I'm not in a group. Just wondering... how many other's leave their cb turned on in case they come across another Venture rider going the other way?
  23. As many of you already know I started making an auxiliary harness for the 2nd Gen Royal Star Ventures a few months ago. These plug in between the connectors under the seat that connect the main harness to the fender harness and allow you to easily make connections to the taillight, brake light and turn signal circuits for adding more lights or attaching to a trailer harness. I am happy to announce that with the help of some folks here and also over on Delphi that I can now expand the offering to include 1996 to 2001 original Royal Stars, 2005 and up Tour Deluxe, V-Stars and Road Stars. I was finally able to obtain the second style connector used by Yamaha. You can see a photo of the basic RS Venture harness in the Second Gen Parts Classified section. I am sorry to say that I still have not found the connectors for the GEN I Ventures and Venture Royales, but I am still looking. Thanks again to all that have purchased harnesses already and for all of the positive feed back I have received on them. Please do ride safe.
  24. I recently learned about the donation process when you dump your bike. 1) It was back in around Oct of 2010. I was in the garage and wanted to turn the Venture around. I was recovering quite well from open heart surgury on 4 May 2010. But I was in no condition to picking up an 800 lbs of Venture. The Story: While turning the Venture around in the garge, I knew had to be careful. So I put the kickstand down so it would catch the fall in case I dropped the VR. So with the side stand down I was also off the Venture's left , I pushed the Venture foward, In so doing the side stand druged on something and kicked the stand back. beyond the threshhold point. After I got the bike where I wanted it I let it onto what I tought was the side kick stand down. Oops no side kick stand, the bike started go down and I just let it go. I first put it in gear and took a come-along and hooked it to the frame of the pick up trunk and got the Venture up. 2) I pulled off the side of the road where it was paved. It was up hill on a sharp corner and the sidepaved road went up to greet me. I also stoped for I needed to turn around the VR aroiund for I went too far. So I stop where I could let gravity push me back and to the right. Well because the right side of where I stoped was quickly going dow, I had to get the bike stopped and leaned to the left. Everything happend so fast. The bike leaned over to the right side and over she went. It so happend that a you guy stopped and asked if I needed help get the VR back upright. I humbled accepted his offer.
  25. Is there anyway to fix the radiator on my 07 Venture. The leak is right on the seam of side the unit.
