  1. Would like some feedback from those who ride 2up. New to site here, been riding a honda vtx1300S last few years, wife just recently riding along more so looking for a better ride for her mostly in particular on longer trips. Any others from a x1300 background as to how the venture compares at highway speeds or any other areas for that matter. I have looked at GW, HD, etc but giving the venture a look. Smoother ride with the v4, more room to stretch out (compared to GW, sport/touring bikes, etc. I'm 6'2"). I'm in the early stages of looking so any constructive comments welcome and appreciated.
  2. Just want everyone to know the Int. rally committee is hard at work . Bongobobby is working on setting up a portable shower with hot water for those staying at Pioneer....jcsfolly is working on the trailer raffle and we are working on the logo and patches...Michelle and Any have some GREAT surprises in store for us all and I am trying to get the pin striper that freebird had at MD to come down also....The restaurant is a go for the dinner and auction as well as the pre registration mixer.....Still working on the BBQ......rides are taken care along with ride captions and there will be many self guided points of interest for those who like to Venture out on their own...Hoffy and Buffalo bodnar are taking care of maps and such....We are trying to have the registration packets available the first of the new year.....Lots to do yet...I am so grateful that we have a lot of great members in this area to help out...so much to do !!!!! Again , if you plan on coming to the rally please sign up in the calendar section....We're gonna have a grand time...
  3. Been talking to a some people I know and it seemed funny how many of us own both a Venture or RSTD AND a FJR..... Must be the best bikes out there
  4. I might be able to get a 1985 venture with 60,000 miles on it for about $800. Was curious to know if this year bike has that problem with the weld breaking by the swing arm that I have read in a couple of posts and if the bike is actually worth buying or should I look for a later model?
  5. I have been on Harley's for the last 10 years and have grown weary of the arrogance, both in the other riders and unfortunately myself as well. I am shifting in a Yamaha direction, great bikes. I am very diligent concerning maintenance and am not a racer. I will turn 20,000 a year though, all over the US and Canada. I am looking at the Venture. What kind of life expectancy, long term reliability, etc can I expect.
  6. I just picked up a 99 Venture and need a new seat for it. Would anyone know what years of seats would be compatible with a 99? I'm thinking the 99 to 04 are interchangeable but I'm not sure. Cheers D.W.
  7. Just wanted to share my recent experience w/ riding all day. I've had my 04 RSMV for about a month now and done a few 150-200 mi days. Based on that I was execting the outcome of an all day to be good. Well.... I just took some folks to Daytona and back. We covered appx 1500 mi's, the last day being an all day of about 550mi. I've been working my way up to a full touring bike and just moved to the RSV from a Roadstar. The R* would've beat me up pretty good on this trip. The Venture was a DREAM. I had no comfort or performance issues whatsoever. Rode 11hr's on Sunday with a few short gas breaks and when I got home I felt like I could do an another 11hrs with no trouble. The Venture came with Russell All-Day seats that were custom made for the PO. Luckily he and I are of similar build. The seat felt strange when I first got on it but now I love it. Guess that's why the call them "all day".
  8. I seen 2 Ventures parked in Tarpoon Springs outside Tampa Florida on Oct 15 early PM. just wondering if it was anyone from this site? Midnite venture parked on one side of street and a 08 gold and black venture on the other side. Thanks CHRIS
  9. I finaly got well enough to go back to Ga and get my trailer. I just left Kirbys house and I think his dogs wanted me and my two small ones for lunch. I got it back to the campground and can't believe the stuff I packed and how the Venture was able to tow it. I still want to say thanks to my Venture family for helping me out during this ordeal.
  10. Hello this is steve , I have a 2008 royalstar venture and have been looking for passenger armrest. The only thing I have found are for goldwings or hds. does anyone know where i could find them?
  11. Don't know if has been posted, looks like they found a few more parts laying around:starz: 2012 Star Motorcycles Royal Star Venture S Home, information
  12. I just got a call from my Dr after the latest MRI. "Your shoulder is being held together by a thread of muscle" surgery ASAP. It looks like my 2000 mm venture #222 will be for sale soon :crying: Lets hope by the time I can ride a big bike again there will be an upgrade Venture with Vmax based engine. Rod
  13. Hello everyone. I'm rolling a 96 RSTC and have started the process of making it mine. I have already picked up a set of Jardine forward controls from a fellow member gunkylump. Next on the list of parts is I'm looking for a set of 2-2-1s (or 4-2-2s depending on how you look at it). I believe the 97 RSTD came with these stock but the closet set I can find is from a 2001 RS Venture. Can anyone answer the question on if these would be a fit or not. I saw a previous thread, from 2009, where pegscraper said the 2-2-1s should bolt right on but I am wondering if anyone has done this and has any lessons learned. Also, if anyone has a set that they are looking to sell, let me know and maybe we can strike a deal. Thanks.
  14. We went to Augusta Wisconsin and picked our new 1984 Venture do these cycles grow on people once they get one they have to get 2 or three. I wasnt sure just what to expect to see when I got there have been on my share of misinformed quests before but was very pleased when we got there, and what we found there is a treasure trove of parts for the first Generation Ventures I would say anything there would be for the 84s there are boxs of parts. I will be getting a complete list and pics of the parts. I told her I had joined this club and there is alot of good people. She lost her husband in June and is selling off all of the parts he had gotten over the years she is a very nice lady and it would be nice that she is treated the same. I will have some pics in a couple of days of the Venture and some more information as what all parts are there and prices. Have a great day Orlin
  15. Wife and I wanted to add a trunk / tour pack for longer trips, to our Tour Deluxe. I bought a trunk bracket from a wrecked late model Venture. First thing I found was that the posts for the latch for the detachable passenger back rest are in the location where two mounting bolts need to be for the Venture bracket. So, I drilled them out from the back, then tapped holes for bolts. The weld from the pins left me with enough metal to get about 4 threads in each hole. I mounted the bracket...then.... I had purchased an aftermarket Harley tour pack as it had the largest capacity of any of the trunks I saw on the internet. It arrived, very nice with passenger back rest. Now my problem. The bottom of the tour pack is formed to fit a different bracket. It isn't just flat. Of course, these inverse ribs don't align with the Venture bracket. Has anyone dealt with this issue?
  16. I like to know what type of aheasive is best to use to put a new Venture Emblem on the Red Reflector of the rear trunk (91 VR)?
  17. I am thinking about buying a Venture. I worked in a Yamaha Store when I was a kid, and the owner let me take a new 1984 Venture home on weekends. I rode it pretty hard. A few years later, I bought a 1984 Aspencade. The Honda did not handle nearly as well as the Venture. I never really enjoyed the Aspencade unless I was rolling straight down the highway. I took it up through Northern Arkansas on some wonderful roads, but it required so much concentration to keep the bike going slow enough so as not to drag the pegs/footboards/centerstand that it was just not fun. Fast forward to the present. I still like to ride fast. I know that the Goldwing now has a lot more ground clearance/higher lean angle and will go around corners much better than the older Goldwings. So, finally, here is my question. How does the current version of the Venture compare, lean angle-wise? I'm not looking for something with Ninja sportbike handling...But, I don't want to constantly have to be extremely careful not to drag things everytime I take a "spirited" ride down a nice twisty section of asphalt. Surely, there are some "spirited" riders in this group that can advise me. If the Venture doesn't have much of a lean angle prior to throwing sparks, tell me. I really loved that old 84. I think it was called a "Venture Royale". It was fast. It could go around a corner, and it had a nice stereo. Now, I am wanting something comfortable that can go long distances, carry me, my wife and 3 days worth of clothes and be fun in the twisties. Thanks for your advice. dana
  18. We are leaving this weekend for our own "Venture West", departing from Toronto. My wife and I now have five weeks available so we hope to make it to the west coast. Have rode to the east coast a number of times but this is my first bike trip west. Plan to ride west mostly in Canada (eh) and back mostly in the US, likely by way of route 2 unless we also go to Yellowstone. Going north of Lake Huron and then through the Michigan UP before we turn north to Kenora/Winnipeg and then westward. Plan on spending some time in BC (Banff, Jasper, Kamloops, Kelowna areas). Will mostly motel but also do some camping. Hope to meet up with some fellow Venture Riders along the way and will invite your specific route and sightseeing suggestions as we go.
  19. Thinking about installing a Voyager Kit on a '91 Venture Royale. I can ride the bike just fine, but since I tip the scales at 150# soaking wet after a good meal, I have some trouble when the GF (who just happens to out weigh me a tad....) is aboard. My riding buddy has a Voyager Kit on his RS TD because he has bad legs, and he loves it. I've done some work on his bike, so I have a good idea of what's there, but I'd like to install the kit myself, so I would really like to know about any "gotchas" there might be. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Y'All ride safe...

  21. Hey Don, I signed up for the other site over a year ago and just tried to get on it...but my "membershp" has expired. Oh well....I like it here much better anyway. But I looked at the "history page" and they say..... Later in 1997 Don Nelson of Texas (at the time), in a unrelated effort, started a discussion forum based on the Yamaha Venture Royale he had just purchased. The two websites continued to grow independently throughout 1997 into early 1998. In 1998, Jeff Cranfill, of North Carolina, was visiting these two sites that he frequented, looking for information about his Venture Royale when he had an idea...why not join Bob's webpage and Don's forum into a central gathering place for Venture owners? He presented the idea to the gentlemen, who, after a little prodding, agreed to join and become VentureNet, The history never says anything about a split or mentions VR.org So what's the REAL history there? Inquiring minds (ok...nosy minds) want to know!
  22. Hi. I traded up from a V-Star 1100 to a used 2006 Venture with 3,200 miles on it. Wow, what a highway cruiser! One small issue is starting the bike. It seems to take a long time to warm up. Starts fine, but has now power for the first few minutes. It also has a chrome cap on the choke button. The linkage seems loose, and the choke will not stay out; pulls itself in when you give it a little throttle. Can this be tightened? Is it usual for a water cooled bike to take a while longer to warm up? I used to be able to start the V-Star and drive away immediately. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, G
  23. Finding an original Venture Line trunk rack for my 1990 has been a fruitless endeavor. I like the look and quality of the Yamaha rack for the Second Gens., it is readily available and quality seems excellent (unlike the JCWhitney stuff). Has anyone out there in Ventureland ever installed the Yamaha Venture trunk rack intended for the newest Ventures on a First Generation, 1986-1993? If so, pictures would be great.
  24. I know I'm gonna get raked over the coals for this, but I have, for good and bad reasons been a HD person. I liked the MK2 Venture for it's power and comfort, but I have a long history with HD and this will be the last one I will own. I found a REALLY clean 99 FLHP cop bike (yeah, it's WHITE) and got a good trade in for the Royale for it, so I bought it. I will at least maintain my membership here for the remainder of the time and maybe longer. What the heck the people here are great and have helped me a LOT with the Venture. Saved me a ton of money! Thanks guys! I really appreciate your help. I have skills enough to handle repairs on the Harley, ya know they ain't that complicated! I will be around for the time being though. Thanks to all of you again! Too many to mention, but as I said, a great place to belong to. Thanks. Okay, go ahead all you Harley bashers, I can take it!
  25. What R1 calipers are a direct bolt on for my 86?? 98 thru 02? Found nice set on E-Bay going off at about 4 this evening. Should have found them sooner. Is there a difference between 85 and 86 on the Venture?
