  1. I have a guy who will make the brackets for fitting the Venture Drivers seat to a Tour Deluxe, Is there anyone out there that might be interested? The more I get made the cheaper it will be....
  2. While poking thru my Venture Files I ran across some very cool Venture Touring Society articles. I don't even remember where I found them, but it's getting cold and for some the riding season is gone. This might give you a little fuel to keep the Venture Fire burning thru the winter. This is the first of 5 installments. Enjoy!!
  3. Hi all, New to this forum and have a question. I have a couple of friends that have Ventures. I am currently looking at one to add to my stable but have a question: It's an 89 with 65,000 miles. I know that prior maintenance and the way the bike has been treated plays a role in the whole scenario, but my question is: Is 65K miles a lot for a Venture ? What is the miles life span for these bikes? What should my main concern be with a Venture with 65K on it ? Thanks in advance for helping me out. Bill:fingers-crossed-emo

  5. Did a U turn today and chased down a couple on a 2004 Midnight, they were not aware of the site so I gave them a card, hopefully they will join our big happy family. They seemed like nice folks which most Venture Riders seem to be there names are Chad and Tammy transplants from Minnesota.
  6. I have a chance to pick up a 2006 Little Guy 5 wide trailer for a steal from a dealer, he just can't sell it he has had it since it was new. My question is it too big for my 99 Venture? It pulls ok and I can see around it fairly well but it is tall. http://www.golittleguy.com/teardrops/models/5-wide-platform/
  7. Hello, Being new here, it looks as though I originally posted a question in the wrong section. Freebird sent a Utopia link in response to this, but I am still looking for something more like the Markland or Ventureline product. Now that I have found the correct location, here is the post again. Hi, I am new here, and am hoping that someone might be able to help me out. In 1983, I bought a brand new 1983 Yamaha Venture. Bright red, and nothing special. Over the years, I have added a Ventureline driver's seat backrest and luggage rack, and an aftermarket radio from Best Buy. I still have the bike, and ride it regularly. It seems to put a lot of newer bikes to shame in terms of handling and engine performance. Brand new, out the door, it only cost a fraction of what bikes cost now. Here is why I joined this board. My son has followed in my footsteps, and this last summer, he purchased a 1983 Yamaha Venture too (see pic). First thing that we noticed, was that all 1983 Ventures are not the same. Things like clock location, anti-glare glass, helmet holders, turn signal cancelling switch type, and other little knick knacks, are different. The one thing that he would like to be the same though, is that he would like to have a backrest for the driver seat. He currently lives four hours away from home, and he enjoys riding the Venture when he visits. I would like to buy a backrest for his Venture as a Christmas present, but have come up against a wall of stone. Nobody seems to carry them anymore for a 1983 XVZ1200. I tried Markland, Babbit's, E-bay, Google, Craig's list, the local Yamaha shop (Ventureline), and several aftermarket shops. Nobody can even give me any leads. At this point, I would be happy to find even a used backrest. Can anybody give any suggestions? Thank you, Greg
  8. Ok, so my 83 Venture started messing up and it seemed like it just might be the battery, but I'm starting to think I was wrong in my initial assesment. It started with the battery voltage meter looking lower than normal, then when I stopped for gas, it would not start back up, turn over slowly then went dark, nothing at all showing up, no fuel pump clicks nothing. I thought maybe a bad connection or the fuse blown but thats not it, anything else it might be? Any help would be appreciated.
  9. Ok I have always wondered if I made the best choice when I bought my Venture. My Harley friends are pretty adamant on the superiority of the Harley experience. So I have always had this nagging question. Would I have been happier with a Harly Ultra Glide Classic or some such thing? Do the Harleys really handle much better at parking lot speeds? For sure more accessories are available for Harleys. And the Harley is fuel injected. Well yesterday I spent some time riding an Ultra Classic and all I can say is WOW. There is no way I would trade my Venture for a Harley. I like the handling on my Venture better than the Harley at any speed. So the question for me has been asked and answered. The Venture was and still is my best choice. Mike
  10. Saturday 10 Dec 201 about 1:30 PM I passed a Venture, I believe it was a 99, going west on County Road 42 in Lake County just outside of Altoona. I was heading east on my Blue/Black 07. Was it anyone on here?
  11. Does anyone know what the napa part # for the gas filter for a 1983 venture royale
  12. Hi all, I'm a proud new owner of a awesome 2000 mm Venture, 3500 miles, this thing is sweet. I traded my Raider on it because I can never get a ride in without the wife. I love the Venture but I need pipes,I'm talking pretty loud. What do I want and where do I get them.
  13. I can do all this with a Venture and get to listen to the radio at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw&vq=medium
  14. Two years ago we decided to get back on a bike again and I picked up a 1984 Venture and now I have another setting next to it in the shed allmost ready to hit the road in the spring. As much as I like the ride of them its getting parts that has me looking for something newer to take the long rides on. And no I wont be parting with my Venture anytime soon way to much fun for our roads around here. So talking with Sharon about it she said no Harleys, and that is fine with me. It has came down to a newer Venture or a Vulcan has anyone here had both or rode both that will give me a honest opinion. Thanks Orlin
  15. Any one in the central south central Tx area have a pop up that can be pulled behind a venture I could rent for a week in March.
  16. Just wanted to post a pic of what I have done to my venture, it is a 2003 and I have owned it since new. It started life as a Midnight Venture and now has been transformed.
  17. My question for today is; Will a 1200 Vmax TCI plug-n-play on my 1985 Venture? It seems to make sense because I have Vmax cams . . .
  18. Well, my membership has expired and sadly it is time to say goodbye. About a month ago I traded my Venture in on a 2012 Cross Country Tour. But first a few honest and sincere comments before I leave. I'll talk about this site and the valuable information on it first... Having 3 sites of my own, I know the hard work it takes to run a website like this and Don has done a FANTASTIC job of knowing when to step in and when to let things alone. The site is nicely done...and frankly I was very hesitant about "joining" a site that charged to be a member. Little did I know then that the information and camaraderie on this site was WELL WORTH the $12 per year that was asked (and yes, it is moderately expensive to run a website). I was a member of the VTX site before this site and they were pretty good...but I had no idea how "ordinary" the site was until I became a member here. Don and YOU MEMBERS are extremely helpful, understanding and caring about the other members of this site. I hope I was able to considered a part of that the short time (2 years) I was here. No smart alecks (or at least not the bad kind:rotf:), there were no rude people and there were no people that talked down to any other members (at least what I was able to see). I saw this all the time on a HD forum I was a member of (thought about a Harley for awhile)...and to be honest there are a couple of Victory forums with attitudes also, and this makes one's experience on those forums less than ideal. But what I miss most about the new forums I am on...is the lack of KNOWLEDGE that I have found here, and the lack of fellowship also found here. THANK YOU for those two wonderful things found at Ventureriders!! OK...now to the bike. I want to be brutally honest here...the good, the bad and the ugly. I don't have an ax to grind, nor do I have any intention of bashing the Venture. I just want to share my experience. When I bought my 2009 Venture, I was very disappointed in the bike, I thought I had made a mistake in my purchase and felt that way for several months. As the months went by, I began to SLOWLY enjoy the bike more and more. Once I went on my first long ride, I was starting to REALLY like my bike...in fact, I began to love the long trips on the Venture. My last long trip was an 1100 mile 17 hour ride from Virginia to Arkansas and I LOVED MY RIDE AND TRIP!! I will always remember that ride as one of my favorite so far. But although I had really became fond of my Venture, I could not get past the handling and top heaviness of the bike, and I was also unhappy about the options of the bike. Like many here I feel that Yamaha has become frozen in time in regards to this WELL BUILT BIKE...the engine on this bike is AWESOME!! In October I went to Bikes, Blues and BBQ in Fayetteville and had actually decided to sink another $1500 into my Venture to lower the bike (a second time) by upgrading the front forks and also purchasing the Corbin seat. I went to BBB and even decided NOT to demo any bikes, even though that was a tradition for the group I was in...I finally gave in to ragging the other guys were giving me and just to please them I test rode the Victory Cross Country Tour. I knew then it was the bike for me. The Venture is a proven success! The engine is the best thing going for this bike. On the interstate, this bike rocks. But in my opinion the positives stop there for me anyway. The Victory CCT handled extremely well, it had all the amenities that you could want on a nice touring bike and finally, the bike isn't dated. So my mind was changed at BBB within 3 minutes of taking the Victory out for a ride. Yes, I will miss the durability of the Venture engine. And yes, I will DEFINITELY miss the super nice members here on this site. I can assure you that every time I visit the Victory forum... I see lots of bickering and little information. Luckily, I prefer to ride than to bicker on a motorcycle website. So again, I know the Venture is a great bike for a lot of people (especially you taller guys)...but it does seem the better fit for me is the Victory. One last thing...I did keep my CD changer and an unfinished SHORTENED kickstand that I have on eBay right now... in case anyone is looking for either one of these items. http://www.ebay.com/itm/190601124266?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/190601124038?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649 Again...Don Thanks for a wonderful 2 years. I will truly miss this place. Wally Jarratt ArkieBiker
  19. On the "Farewell / good by" thread, I read your post and looked up and noticed the title has got to be all wrong. Insteaad of this> It should read > VentureRider.org Dedicated to Yamaha's GREAT Royal Star Venture, The Antique Venture Royal and all Royal Star Motorcycles. Bryan
  20. I've read all the great posts here about swapping my carbs to the 32mm on my 98 RSTD.I bought a set from an 02 Venture to do the job this winter.I also found some heads with cams, valves & springs at pinwall at a reasonable price(around $200.00 delivered) from an 02 Venture.Could I just simply buy and install the heads & intakes with the cams in them and not worry about making the adapter brackets and machining the intake to make for a relatively easy bolt on upgrade? The Venture heads & cams are an upgrade over my 98 RSTD cams, right?? Do the Venture heads bolt on? Is this a worthwhile upgrade, since I'm doing the carbs anyway?? Any input is appreciated.Oh and the rear v-max differential swap is on my upgrade list too...I need more power!!
  21. I understood the K-40 antennas that are stock with the venture have a 3/8"-24 threaded base ? I connected with the Firestik antenna company and they confirmed their attenna bases are all 3/8-24, male threaded So i must be incorrrect? The Venture K-40 stock attennas cant have the same base - since one cant simply be removed and replaced with the firestik Can someone tell me what the base thread is for the stock Venture K-40 attennas?? Thanks
  22. A friend of mine wants a fairly new Venture. If you know anyone in the Mobile area please let me know. Thanks tew47
  23. I'm starting to put together my winter project list, and one thing I would like to do is add rear speakers to my '91 Venture Royale 1300. A riding buddy has a Kawasaki Venture XII that has some sweet looking speakers mounted to the tour pack luggage rack. I'd like to do something like that, but I'm open to suggestions. TIA
  24. A friend of mine who retired from the salt mine was chatting with a friend of his about bikes. He knew that they were searching for a newer bike. Bruce gave Barry and Donna my telephone #, and contact was made. Well, they came over Wednesday night, had a look at our 04 midnite, and fell in love. Took it for a spin, had a friend check it out and came back with big grins on both their faces. They called after dinner tonight, and said that they were waiting word from the bank and wanted the bike. They currently have a 1st gen...it's an 85, and it has over 100,000 on the odometer. So, they wanted another, newer Venture. We had a nice visit....it was great trading "Venture" stories. I guess to make a long story short, looks like Beth and I are soon to be bikeless. I bought my first bike when I was 12 years old, a 50cc Bombardier, and except for a hiatus while raising my boys, riding has been a passion for me. But, in all honesty, I have lost my lust for this sport.....truthfully, the accidents this year have really hit home, and probably have had some impact on my decision. Once I get on the bike, it's just like home, the problem was getting my leg swung over the seat in the first place. We have decided to try to "look in to our future" so to speak. I'm tired of the cold and winter, and we have a desire to retire on the water somewhere warm.....so we have purchased a Bayfield 29C sailboat. We will try this out, and if Beth can handle the "motion of the ocean", we will sell the 29 footer and move up to a larger sailboat closer to retirement, outfit it the way we want to, and then, as the saying goes......sail off into the sunset. We have made a lot of great friends here on this site, and we will miss each and every one of you. We do plan on continuing to attend local meets and eats...er greets when my work schedule allows us to do so. I want to say THANK YOU to all who have helped me through their posts working on my bikes, who have actually worked on my bike, who have directed me to sites to purchase new safety chrome and other accessories for our ride. It would have been so much harder to dress the bike up, have the confidence in it's mechanical abilities to just get up and go for weeks at a time. Before finding you all and this site, I couldn't do most of the repairs/updates that I've done over time on both my 96 royal star and the Venture. Changing out a clutch slave cylinder, doing the brakes, adding lighting....the list goes on. I'm still going to pop in on the site now and then to check up on everyone...wouldn't miss the enjoyment of reading all the posts and updates here on the site, seeing who is getting into "trouble" with the mods..., what's new in everyone's lives. Anyways, good luck to you all....Gary and Mary, you're just a half hour away, we'll drop in now and then, Monty, good luck with the boys overseas, Freebird, keep fighting the big "C", you are going to completely beat the beast, Ponch, keep up the good fight, we're all in your corner pushing you on, Yammer Dan...buddy, you keep the site interesting!!!! IBents, we'll see you at the wine party and get you out for a sail next summer I hope. Carbon One, keep those ideas rolling and producing accessories for these great rides. Squidley, Lonna, Kregerdoodle, Gunboat and the rest of the Houston gang, we had a blast down there last year, we'll not soon forget that ride! A ton of great memories, awesome times, great friends! gunk
  25. I am thinking of buying a 2002 midnight venture with 10,000 miles for $6400. Was curious to know if this is a good price and what I should look for.
