1. Several years ago my neighbor had a gold wing with a folding mirror for his wife that hinged down from the open trunk lid. I seem to remember it being a flexible piece of highly polished plastic as to not break. It had a snap fastener that held it in the "up" position when loading/unloading the trunk. He had removable bag inserts and the mirror must have molded to the shape of the bag because it never broke. Has anyone seen something like this before? My wife would love a mirror after a ride. It's that hair thing....... Thanks, Rob
2. Thanks again for the input on a trunk rack. I'm getting one. Now, what about bags for it. Had a trunk rack bag on my GW 1500 way back when but can't remember the brand. I'm looking at the Star model but wonder if anyone has something they like better. Any input appreciated.
3. I was messing around in the trunk today and noticed that on both sides of the trunk is a "channel" and there's also a drain on the left side. Then I noticed that the trunk doesn't have a rubber seal? So is the trunk pretty much waterproof or does it leak a lot? Thanks, Wally
4. I picked up a used trunk spoiler and need to paint it to match my '99. Looking at the color rite page though, I am just not at all sure which is the correct color. NONE of them look like the darker gray color of my trunk top. http://www.colorrite.com/matrix-colors.cfm?CFID=2237224&CFTOKEN=91175331
5. I removed the trunk from my '09 RSV and reinstalled the CB under the luggage rack. I can hear my radio and my cb through the speakers but can't hear anything through my headset. Everything is hooked up as before except for the 2 plugs that plug into the trunk. Does the trunk have to be installed in order for the headset to work when plugged into the tank plug? Or is there possibly something wrong with the wiring somewhere up front? Thanks in advance.........
6. I took my trunk off and am looking to trade my trunk mount for a passenger backrest from a tour deluxe. I posted in the classifieds. Any takers?

tour deluxe trunk mount

Nice weather in Wisconsin and I have put about 200 miles on my TD already. I have accumulated a few chrome parts ans have been having fun working in the garage getting ready for the "real" spring here. Which brings me to a dilema. I bought a detachable sissy bar and want to mount a trunk to it. I have seen Al's mount on the web page but I know I have seen other ones(mounts)also and can't find them now. Soooo.. if anyone has pictures or sells alternative mounts please post for all of us. Thanks alot and lets hope the nice weather continues. Reno
8. O.K. guys. I know a whole lot about the mechanicals of my 88 VR, but not much about the body, plastic, chrome, etc. Can all years of the 1st gens use the same trunk luggage rack? What I'm asking is if the 1200 and 1300 VRs had the same size and shape tail trunks? O.K. Is there anywhere to buy a new, good quality (maybe even N.O.S.) trunk rack for a VR these days? Thanks.
9. I sometime get tired of how quickly the trunk becomes a mess on a trip. Last year at the Roundup in Cody, Iowawegian (Gary and Deb) had some pouches in the trunk that allowed them to keep things where they could get them easily. I liked that!! I've been looking online for something that would go in my '86, with no luck. So, last night I decided to do something..... I took a piece of Lexan I had in the garage and cut two pieces to fit the width, height and curvature of the trunk bottom. I used adding machine tape rolls as spacers and with four bolts to hold it together. A little stick on velcro to hold it in place to the rear of the trunk but still allow it to be removed. (I was going to install only the rolls as spacers but Jan reminded me of how often we or someone asks if someone has a piece of paper and pen, so I left it on to use up on the road) This isn't everything I would want but in the mean time it creates two pockets in the back corners and three more between the plastic to help hold things in place and there is still room for my helmet inside. http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/86%20Venture%20Rt%20Faring/?action=view&current=IMG_0684.jpghttp://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/86%20Venture%20Rt%20Faring/IMG_0684.jpg Dave
10. Has anyone purchased the trunk assembly or the service platform from the following website? http://members.cox.net/alvinguy/
11. The other night I was rummaging through the trunk on my Venture looking for one of my gloves. All the while I was thinking how nice it would be to have a trunk light... well today I installed one. I went into Costco (Price Club) and picked up a package of Wireless LED Puck Lights, 4 in a pack for $14. Batteries included. They have a peal and stick Velcro back and installed in a minute. The light also has a sensor that if I want I can set it to come on automatically when I open the trunk lid... or I can just turn it on manually by touching the top of the light itself. I’m not sure how well the peal and stick will stay attached to the trunk lid on a warm day but time will tell. If it falls down I’ll put on some 3M two sided tape, that will keep it in place. I do have a small flashlight that I carry but this is so much nicer. Works great!
12. I thought I would post it here first. Parting out an '86 VR 1300. I have almost all the plastic. Some needs to be repaired. Have everything for a complete rebuild. Black and gold. Both saddle bags, bottoms and lids, trunk, purple color from '89 VR. All front fairing parts plus vents. Windshield stock height and in good condition. All braces for fairing. Let me know by PM and I will answer all with what I have. Chuckles
13. Well .......when I shut the bike down for the season I removed all the plastic and took it into my little basement shop with the intentions of repairing minor cracks and fabbing up some new tabs that were broken. Got that done. Now with all the winter weather we have been having I've been staring at pieces of my bike for a few weeks now. I hate that! So with some spare hours and some serious self pep talks I took on a new project. Lining the trunk and saddlebags with trunk liner. So today I finished the lower trunk body. Pretty happy with the results so far. Now onto the trunk lid and the major challenge......the saddlebags. Like they couldn't add a few more curves to these things! Geesh. Got to go find a Sunday paper. Need to make more patterns. Mike
14. :happy65:Has anyone found a good trunk lid oganizer for the RSV. I have seen some for Goldwings that also had saddlebag lid organizers. Please let me know. Thank you.
15. First of all I would like to thank Squidley, Eusa1, and StudMuffin. Still need one more set though. For providing me with the parts I needed. I got a hold of some older Chrysler Emblems and starting hacking , dremaling , and I still am not done yet. But almost! I want you to tell me what you like or do not like. OR Don't even add the part. Should I place it on the bottom of the hatch or the middle? These are not even glued or set it. I just have them hanging and they still need to be cleaned up.. HEY , I gotta do something to keep me busy during this long long winter The one That (YOU) decide I should not use will go on my Trailer back-side. These are pics of Just the star and the other is with the star and logo. These are of just the star in the middle and lower of my trunk hatch # 1 - # 2 - These are of just the star with logo in the middle and lower of my trunk hatch # 3 - #4 - # 3 - The one with the star logo does form better on the hatch I noticed and it is a bit wider. Thanks for your in-put! Jeff
16. Looking for options use on the luggage rack on the trunk for long trips. (Yes, there was a thread about 4 years ago)... I have seen the Cordura Bag by Yamaha made for the trunk, but I can't tell if it is toploaded or side loaded (like a suitcase). Also does anyone have any pictures of their bike LOADED DOWN for trip? Thanks.
17. Trying to show pics, guess I'm not smart enough to import them. I'll keep working on it. Anyway the 2007 RSV is now in my garage! Accessories are: light bar, radiator grill, saddle bag rails, trunk rack, and LED light bar under the trunk. Sure is nice. Next door neighbor thought it was brand new.
18. Hey guys, Need to pick your brains for a minute. Does anybody know how to remove a decal from a painted metal surface without screwing up the paint? I put a new battery in my old Duc today and had the tank propped up. Fuel leaked out:thumbdown:and messed up the warning decal on the back of the tank. No harm done really PROVIDED that I can get the rest of the $%$##! thing and the glue OFF. Any ideas or suggestions will be Greatly appreciated!! Thanks all!!.......Hm...maybe a guy could take the "Yamaha" decal off the back of the trunk...put an HD logo there and REALLY confuse the Harley dudes:innocent-emoticon:
19. I seem to have lost a couple of bolts that secure the trunk support to the (side of the) fender. Rather than remove the other existing bolts to check, I am wondering if anyone knows off-hand what the correct size might be. The Yamaha parts fiche just refers to them as "bolts" without dimensions. (SKU 92014-08020-00, button head bolt) Suspect it may be a M6 x 1.00, maybe 16mm, but I'm not sure. Thanks Ross
20. I'm in the market for a Travel Cover for my RSV and I'm giving serious thought to buying the Star travel cover (STR-4XYTR-CV-R1). If you have one, would you mind answering a couple of questions? 1) Are the soft (non-scratching) areas for the windshield and trunk areas? 2) Are there grommets at the bottom so that the cover can be secured? Thanks!
21. I see posts where riders talk about locking their helmet to the bike, or in the trunk. I have been riding for 36 years, and my luck my run out tomorrow, but I have put my helmet on the lock before, stuck it in the trunk, but most of the time I just set it up on the seat. So far I have never had a helmet stolen or messed with in any way. Has anyone ever had their helmet stolen from your bike. Gregg
22. Today I removed the trunk, etc from my RSV. Yamahamer was a big help getting me headed down the right path. I like the looks and REALLY like the way it handles now. Only electronics I lost was the CB which I don't use anyway. All in all I'm happy with the way it turned out. Now to figure how to get rid of the wires and brackets under the seat so I can make it a solo bike like I had my RSTD. Thanks Mark for guidance, you saved me a lot of headache.
23. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Royale-chrome-trunk-accent-rails-1985-90_W0QQitemZ280436483720QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item414b512688 This is a nice set of new trim pieces for the trunk for a 1st gen. I have them and they are nice. This looks like NOS.
24. So I get the new bike home Tuesday night. The wife and I take about a 5 mile ride to check it out. Pull up in the driveway, and notice one of the rear speakers aren't working.. BRAND NEW.. come on now... SO, I call the dealer the next morning, and of course, depends on how busy we are if we can get to it right away or not... UM... I just spent how much for what?!?!?! Got home last night and decided I'll look at it myself.. Pull the seats, and yep, sure enough, plain as day is a a connector with nothing plugged into it... I start looking around for the other end. It's up under the trunk, with the wire running between the trunk and the trunk bracket. You could tell exactly what happened... They put it together, couldn't get the connector pushed back through from between the bracket and the trunk, so said WTF.. it's only one speaker.. I ended up pulling the speaker pod loose, and it gave enough clearance to force the connector through... I also noticed that one of the connectors for one of the antennas wasn't routed correctly and placed in the holder for it.. and another wire laying loose that should have been run through a wire keeper.. SO.. I sorted it all out, put it all back together, and now I got sound all the way around, and no worries of wires rubbing from being in wrong places.. It sure makes me wonder what other problems I'm going to find from the dealer assembly though... If they do something like this with a brand new bike, I'll be damned if I'm going to trust my life to others when you have no ideas if they take shortcuts or not.. At least when I work on it, I know what was done.
25. The part that holds the lid up is loose, The top screw you can get to but how do you get to the bottom screw
