  1. My ride from Seattle to Las Vegas is on. Needs some suggestions. 1) What bag fits nice on the rear trunk rack, and from the reads I found that 10 lbs is the recommended limit. 2) What bag fits nice on the passenger seat being that I'm riding single. I need this bag to fold flat so I can store it in the rear trunk for my wife will be traveling with me on the return ride from Las Vegas to Vacaville.
  2. I just found this trunk crack on my 91 VR. It is hard to see. It looks like a stress crack from age and hardening of the plastic, for there is nothing around it that indicates it got hit. And I have not loaded it much at all. I may have purchased it that way, only at that time I may have missed it. The crack does definately stop my fingernail from going over the crack. I dont know what those white spots are for they are not on the turnk. The paint on the trunk looks like the day it came off the show room floor The crack is also felt on the inside. Also the crack starts right dead center on one of the screws that hold the trim on. My options are 1) Just ignore it and hope the crack does not travel father 2) Take it to a body shop for an estimate 3) Buy a used trunk and have it professionally painted to match. 4) Your suggestions
  3. got it today. i wasnt really sure what i felt at first. i thought it might be larger (46L). i was concerned that my large, full-faced helmet, wouldnt fit. it didnt in the stock trunk. i had to force it closed. overall, i wanted to fit my helmet, save weight, and have lights. well, thats what i got. JUST that. the Bestem came with a universal mounting plate which worked perfectly, except, i had to use bolts that were about an inch shorter to clear the taillight lens. no biggie. i am a little disappointed in the wiring harness. its really fine gauge wire. and, the LED harness seems like an afterthought. but it works. wiring was straightforward, but, it did not come with directions...weird. it also came with an extra set of side panels in black, instead of this orangy-red, but, i kept the red ones on. obviously, i got this for more visability. my old trunk leaked, rattled like a can of bolts, and was cracked in several places, not to mention, it weighed 23lbs. the Bestem weighed in at 12lbs. thats what i wanted. so far, ive shaved off almost 60lbs off my ride! enjoy!
  4. I have a RSTD 2006 midnight, and I was thinking about buying a trunk with an integrated passenger back rest, but I want to install it on to the OEM quick detach sissy bar that comes with the RSTD. Has anyone don this yet? and if so can you post some pictures so I can see what it looks like. Thanks.
  5. got them finished today. whew!! i was able to fit them so the rear trunk can go on and off without any issues at all! tell me what you think?? hmmm...the Pelican 1620 is 78 liters with wheels and handle......trunk?? i wonder how much those mufflers weigh?? not like i dont have enough work to do...Progressives sitting next to me, De-link and Stainless lines on the way, Master brake cylinder kits here somewhere....
  6. Anybody have a usable luggage Rack for 89 Trunk. ? Does not have to be perfect. Just need something that will work , Anybody know anything about the JC whitney offering for luggage racks.? Or information on any other good supply source would be appreciated.
  7. I bought this bike a couple of months ago. needless to say the po neglected it.I am going thru and repairing replacing things. I need help on the trunk lock. on the inside of the trunk the part that the lock latches onto is gone. does anyone have a fix for this, or maybe a pic of it so I can possibly make something. thank you
  8. Looking for a trunk light wing for a 2004 midnite venture. Thanks Kelly
  9. I have a project I'm working on. My 84 has a very small trunk and I have the mounting bracket for an 85 trunk. I've also determined that any MkII trunk will fit the 85 hardware. The only thing I'm missing now is the antenna bracket. It needs to be longer than the 84. Questions are.... Does the MkII bracket fit on the 85 mounting rack? Does anyone have one they would be willing to part with? Failing that at least I would know if I could look at ANY MKII on eBay...
  10. Just bought a 93 VR and center stand is wired up. Looked in manual and can't find a picture of the missing parts. I have a "c" shaped bracket and spring in trunk that went somewhere. Any help? PLEASE... lol:fingers-crossed-emo
  11. What you all think not done yet still need to finish off. Joe
  12. I am not near my bike right now, but I have a computer!! Does anyone know the diameter of the bars on the luggage rack that goes on the trunk lid of a 2nd gen? Thanks
  13. Anyone have 1 or 2 helmet locks that bolt to the RSV trunk mounting bracket that I could get?? Thank's Joe
  14. Of the little guys that hold these bags to the trunk? I just won these of ebay to put on my 84. I put the MKII trunk on my MKI about 1.5 years ago so I have the clips that hold the bags onto one side, and I took the intercom controls off the other side. So I need a couple clips to put the second bag on that side. Thanks Bill
  15. I found this white electricial plug underneath the trunk of my 91 VR as I removed the trunk so I can install a trunk guard. It has two female plugs Anyone know what it is for?
  16. started working on the Trike today. weather was in the high 40's today so I figured what the heck. Wasn't to bad in the garage. I moved the trunk back, it was really easy Took the 6 hold down bolts out, move it to the rear bolt holes, retightened. Took about 15 minutes. I have the same set up for the trunk as the 2 wheel version RSV. Then I figured since the weather is still pretty good I might as well change out the muffler. This took the rest of the day. Went from a set of noisy Sampson fish tails to a very nice sounding set of 05 RK's. A lot quietier, but still has a nice low rumble and a good bark when you get on it. My neighbors must have thought I was nuts, cause by the time I finished the install the weather went to heck. Temp dropped into the 30's with snow flurries, but there I was, riding up an down the road making noise. Sure felt good, even if it was for only a couple of minutes.
  17. I want to move the trunk back the one inch that is allowable. Has anyone done this? There are hard rubber guides in the way can they be moved as well or cut with out any problem?
  18. Instead of trying to fit a trunk to my RSTD, I am interested in finding luggage that can create similar capacity to a Venture trunk and be attached the rear factory accessory luggage rack and the passenger sissy bar. Any real life experience with this type of product or suggestions would be appreciated. Mike
  19. Happy New year Everyone: When I first joined almost two years ago I did not have any issues posting pictures. Then just about Cody time, I tried posting pictures of my completed Harley Trunk install on my RSTD. Many of you had helpful suggestions, but I was still unable to post before Cody. I got busy and neglected to try again until this weekend. I am stuck in the house do to the winter cold and I am "ON Call" and cannot go very far. So I made more attempts at the file uploads and they finally worked. For those that would want to look around in my albums. Their are good pictures about several popular upgrades. Flanders Bars (Before and After). DMY aftermarket trunk install with Wompus Rack. Harley Trunk install on the same Wompus Rack. Bar end weight idea and my own invention of adding a spacer to the RH side to allow for a "Total Grip" when the Crusie is on. Grippy Puppy pictures. Along with pictures of several local friends and VR members that I am honored to call my FRIENDS.....Mark:)
  20. Hello again. i have another simple question that I would like to know the answer to before I buy a RSV. How simple is it to remove the rear trunk, passenger seat back and speakers and swap in the sissy bar from a RSTD. I like the trunk and speakers for long road trips....but for everyday commuting I think I would like the look of the OEM RSTD Sissy bar on the back. Is this like a 10-15 min swap or a major ordeal. I will be removing the 2 antennas since I don"t plan on using the CB and FM tuner....I will be using XM Satellite Radio. I was also going to put the rear speaker wires on quick disconnects .....so with that said....would doing this be an easy swap out. I would just buy a RSTD ...but I like the trunk for long trips and I love the fairing and stereo of the RSV. Thank you folks for your help.
  21. I've been thinking of how to use the approx 1 inch square SS bathroom towel rack tube for my rear light bar. I have 3 Custom Dynamic LED lights. 2 amber directioinal and 1 sequental (Back and forth) stop. Each are about 3/4 inch in with and 4 to 5 inches in length. I'd like input into drilling into the chrome trunk rack. That is from the rear of the VR looking at the back end of the chrome rack, just underneath the bottom of the trunk. I'm mainly concerned with the possibility of the chrome pealing off. I could drill three holes, one near each end and one in the middle of the towel rack and corresponding holes into the chrome trunk rack. The hole in the towel rack would need to be just large enough to put a SS screw and a screwdriver into it. With the SS towel rack mounted, I would then from the bottom of the towel rack and in the center drill another hole to accommodate 6 wires for the LED lights to be routed out of the towel rack and connected to the VR under the seat. The LED wires are about the size of telephone wires. I could feed the wires for each light in through the 3 outside holes and the three LED lights have double sided 3M tape. Each light would then mount centered covering the holes. I could not find any square plastic plugs to put into the ends, but did find some round ones. I'm pretty sure I can make it fit. The circular cap covers the end except the oh so small part of the 4 square corners, of which I have some black silicone glue. Maybe I could put some sort of metal bonding waterproof glue to keep moisture from getting under the chrome where the hole is drilled. Have any suggestions? Also I'm wondering about the drilling process into the chrome trunk rack. That is how to prevent pealing during the drilling process. I know that the location is ok, further back would be a little better, however the rear part of the trunk rack does jet out from the rear trunk bolt location and the 1 inch towel rack does bring it out that much farther. Then the observers behind me are a good distance away so it would be pretty much eye level. The turn signals providing directional signals are very eye catching and the stop lamp will be like the Sequential light like in the show Knight Rider. The center red light will sequential back and forth when the brakes are applied. All the light movements are very eye catchy and hard to ignore. The movements of the lights seems to draw the eye balls.
  22. Anyone know where one can get stainless steel or chrome channeled U shape long bracket (The U channel be 1 in X 1 in X 1 in and about the length of the rear trunk mount) where it could be mounted under the far rear of the trunk mount so the open end is to the front on the bike and the closed end is facing the rear of the bike where I could install from Custom Dynamics Sequential Amber LED Turn Signals on the ends and in the center a Custom Dynamics LED Stop Lamp. Then under the bracket I could install a couple of white lights hooked to a push switch where I can get the attention of cagers approaching dangerously. Even an L shape bracket would work. Or maybe someone has a good suggestion as to where one could mount the lights described, except drilling into the plastic trunk for an MKII.
  23. whats the best way to drill mounting holes for trunk rack? i finally found a rack for my 83 and trunk never had a rack and any tricks you guys have to drill the holes without cracking the trunk lid?? before i go drilling
  24. one of the snaps on my trunk lid broke off some time ago. i've been riding with just the one but it is wearing thin and won't stay fastened. I guess I'll have to buy a new lid. is there a place to buy one besides yamaha. I'd hate to think what that would cost. any insight on this problem is appreciated. David
  25. About a month ago dusty1300 offered up a couple of hardcase trunk bags for sale. He had a nice Castle that was good sized and I took it off his hands. I had a soft trunk bag for a few years and it was not very big and a pain when it was empty. His Castle was designed for a sissy bar type mount so I was able to use the frame of that to attach my smaller soft bag to the rear of the Castle. The weight of the soft bag lays on the passenger backrest so it supports itself pretty well. And I can simply tip my backrest forward to still open the trunk for access without removing anything. Still have room under the soft bag for my small bedroll. Still need to make a set of straps to tie it all on so I won't need the bungies but winter is coming and I have time to mess with it. But I took it out for a ride tonight and it sits well and stable. So thanks Tom for letting go of the Castle. Makes my traveling a little easier. Mike
