Leadwolf, Tinkerbell and 93 Venture, for the impromptu meet and eat. Rhonda and I headed down their way on Firday and met up with them Saturday morning. We went down to look at a Bike for Rhonda, that 93 Venture went and looked at for us. After being somewhat disatisfied we had a nice lunch, and Darrin recomended heading to another Yamaha Dealer. Kevin phoned ahead and setup a test ride for Rhonda. When we got there they were ready for her to go for her test ride. We did not end up getting a bike, but we did find out, that the bikes Rhonda likes will have to have a few modifications for comfort and safety. Kevin guided back up to the highway and we headed home. Again thanks and we had a good day. PS I did not get one picture. Brad

does anybody know how to test a rectifier, a new stator did not do the trick, electrical is not my thing, battery is good and so is the regulator,thanx:sign67:

went for a 250ml test ride sun,39#air,bike is a little squirrly,from the rear feels like the side wall is flexing a lot more than the BFG,tire is a lot more round than the BFG,but don't feel as stable as the BFG,in the curvies,will rase the # to 42 for the next test

I think Mini made a decision and test drove a new Honda insight. For any of you that know her this is a Big deal she likes her Mustangs but agreed to buy a new car while I am in the sand box. Jeff

As always there are a lot of electrical issues coming up in these forums maney of which are ground related. Most go through a lot of agravation checking there grounds only to find out there is nothing wrong with the ground. True you should always eliminate any possible ground faults as a first step in diagnosing electrical issues. so here is a very useful and simple test to verify your ground condition. what you need a voltmeter a high beam headlight two 3 ft lengths of wire two aligator clips A) connect an alligator clip to one end of each wire B) connect the other end of each wire to a terminal on the high beam headlight 1) connect voltmeter to battery and record the voltage reading eg: 12V 2) connect the alligator clips from the high beam to the batt and record the resulting reading eg: 11.5 V the difference is your voltage drop eg: 0.5 v 3) disconnect the high beam aligator clip and the volt meter test lead from the neg post of the battery only 4) connect the volt meter neg lead to the engine block and read record the voltage reading eg: 12v 5) connect the alligator clip from the high beam to the same point on the engine block and not the voltage eg: 1) 11.2 v voltage drpo is relitivily close to that recorded in step (2) your ground to the engine is good you need not look any further. If for example your voltage upon connecting the high beam dropped to say for eg: 7v than you have a ground issue and need to locate it 6) repeat steps (4 & 5) but connect to the frame of the bike to test if the frame has a proper or faulty ground. this test takes only several minutes to perform and is far more reliable than using an ohmeter because an ohmeter does not load up the circuit which would pass under a light currant load but fail under a heavy load. slight modifications of this test can be used to load test any wire on the bike and will instantly reveal if a wire or circuit is sound or faulty with out having to tear the whole bike down eleminating a lot of unecessary work. By leaving the voltmeter and head light connected to the neg side of the battery and moveing the positive side connections in the same maner the positve side of you electrical system can also be tested you must take more care however when loading up the positve side of the electrical system to be sure you don't accidently load up a sensitive component in the sysem by mistake. In such case i often disconnect both ends of the circuit apply voltage to one end of the wire and connect my voltmeter and then my test load to the other end.

Ok all you electrical genius types. I am somewhat stumped here. I know how to test the stator using the AC voltage test and it seems to be fine. Is there a way to test the Regulator? I have an 84 VR. Is there a way to retrofit a MKII regulator? The plug has more wires in it than the 84. When I parked the bike for the winter it was charging fine. Over the winter I added a couple of relays (for horn and highway lights). A chrome bumper converted to LEDs and a 12v receptacle. So I'm wondering if I did something wrong but was very carefull with these installations. I soldered and heat shrank every joint etc. Is there a way to test for excessive drain while running? I had a "rebuilt Stator" that I got off eBay a couple of years ago and installed it. That didn't solve the problem. But it may not be a good one either. Any ideas?? Wayne

Just thought id mention it but a while back I had a post where a friend was going to make a set of fork deflectors for our RSV's. I have been running a temp/mock up set for about a month now, mostly to test the bracket strength. As far as I am concerned it held up extremely well. We test fitted another set today prior to polishing. They fit well but there is something in the bracket we would like to tweak a bit more for a more adjustable fit. If we can get it polished before Sunday I should have a set on my bike for display at the Daytona Meet and Eat. If all goes well, several more sets will be made with some mods to the mounting bracket and pics will be posted here. Time is a problem, or lack of it right now so I dont expect it to be real soon. Biggest hassle right now is running back and forth for my friend from Jax to Savannah to use the machine and back. But if it comes out as planned I think you all will be very satisfied with the finished product.

Dealer offered me a chance to test ride it, so I did. I had to ask them several times to make sure they were serious. They said yes, so off I went. Nice nimble little bike. Not sure I would would take it cross country or anything like that, but had fun. I think it would be good for putting around town on. But it did sit way too high for me. At least I could get 1 foot flat on the ground when I leaned over at a stop light. Probably could have gotten pulled over for unsafe start too or whatever they want to call it. I kinda hammered it at a stop light, but I will say that I didn't go over the speed limit, I just took the quickest route to get to the speed limit. http://www.metriccruisers.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I looked over and sure enough there was a cop sitting on the side of the road, but they didn't do anything.

I am selling my Yamaha FZ 1000. I don't ride it much since I got my RSTD. I am a little worried about letting potential buyers take the bike for a test ride. Any advice would be appreciated.

07 venture, stock battery......battery failed 3 load tests; mine, Battery Plus, and the dealer......shows 12+ volts, drops to 6V under test......dealer has already been given the go ahead to replace it free....but he must try to " bring it back up " first ( 24 hr charge)..... here's my questions.....he says that my battery tender, which is a Battery Tender jr., will not properly charge this type battery...nor will a regular charger, and that they will damage this battery......that i need to get the charger that yamaha has...........i might buy the story about a regular charger, but not about my battery tender not working on an agm as Battery Tender says it will....so......who's right? and...what should the minimum voltage reading be under a load test.....( just for my clarification) and...my regular charger does shut off when battery shows charged, so why shouldn't it work also

Many thanks to Riderduke who came down to my house this evening and helped me repair my clutch. We upgraded to the PCW spring and pressure plate. Took her for a test ride and she is back normal now. Thanks again Duke.

In Tae Kwon Do that is, My little guy and I tested and passed to the next belt level,I have a blue belt and Josh now has his red belt.Josh is really into this stuff and catches on fast he's been in it just over a year and his next test will be for brown belt.I'm doing fairly well for my age but I think I could have done a whole lot better if I started at 10 . For him it's all fun but for me it seems to be hard work.

This Saturday, HD is bringing their Test Our Metal tour to the base here in Victoria, for the CF members and their families. I may never buy one, but I'm signing up to test ride a couple. I'm sure glad this happens a couple of days before I have to sail again. This will be my last trip before Christmas and I have a feeling it may be the last ride of the season also. It gets a little frosty outside of Victoria. Cheers

Just got back from Yamaha test ride at The Power Garage(new Yamaha dealer) in Woodstock Ontario.They had about 15 bikes-- took out the Warrior(not for me) then finally got to drive a second generation Venture. Now I know what everyone is complaining about the WWWWHHHHIIINNNEEE talk about annoying,could hardly pay attention to radio and driving.Bike only had 195klms on it.If this whine is that bad on other peoples bikes I'm glad I didn't buy one .Was fine as long as I didn't give it gas but I wouldn't have gone anywhere otherwise.Talked to rep about it and he said it has been this way since beginning and will probably be that way until new model(maybe)He would like to also see the new V-max engine put in it.

Well I went back to the test section to try and figure exactly why I am an idiot and can't post a picture like I want to...I did a couple of train pics and the view numbers were higher there than any motorcycle pic I have posted.......are we a bunch of train buffs in the closet? If so I took this pic last febuary on my way back from LA on Amtrak and thought it would be the perfect camping spot,park the bikes,have a nice fire,grill out,do a little fishing,do a midnight skinney dip,and maybe go back a hundred years we would be pulling up our horses.......... http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/DSC_0207-1.jpg

I need some really expert help. How would one bench test a stator? That is how can I test a replacement stator to ensure it is operational before installing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. regards, masterguns

I got the mirrors done, I only had one base with boot so I painted the other black. I used a 10MM tap on the bases, I would like to have used larger mirrors may change them this was a test. Mirrors $17.00 from JC Whitney any suggestions welcome. Dale
