  1. I thought I had a 6 gal tank on my 01 RSV but when it reaches the point where I have to out it on reserve it only takes me 4.5 gals to fill it up. Also what kind of gas mileage do you all get? Thanks
  2. Can anyone point me in the direction to find a fuel tank cover for a 07 tour deluxe. The OEM schmatics dont list it or I cant find it. Will the Venture cover fit.?
  3. hello i just got a call from my friend dianne up in north dakota. she said last night she filled up her gas tank then put it in the garage to get ready for a ride today. well she went inside to start up the bike and saw the tank looked like someone caved it in.? she is upset as i would be too she hopes this would be coverd under her warrenty? she bought the bike last year vstar model. i tould her to call the place down here where she bought it then go to a local dealer up there im sure they will replace the tank. the poor woman is in tears. she said she cant even find one on ebay in good condition and close to her silver/black color.
  4. I turned my bike on yesterday and the driving lights wouldn't come on at all. The dealer did the install back last December and they didn't put the switch in as per the Yamaha instructions. I'm almost certain that the fuse inside the faring is blown and that I have a pinched wire either in the centre of the bar mount or when the bike is swung all the way out in one direction. I did notice that on the right hand side when I swing it out to expose it, that a blue wire looked pinched. Today I purchase all of the necessary parts to install a relay and a switch. I have been reading lots of the posts on this subject and my one question at this point is do I have to take the gas tank off in order to do this? One post with pictures says that the gas tank has to be removed. Has anyone installed a relay and a switch without having to remove the gas tank? Thank you in advance Chris
  5. Just moved up to 08 Venture from V Star 1300, Like moving from a Chevy to a Cadillac. Just wondered if you need to remove riders seat and gas tank to change spark plugs? If removing tank is it a easy procedure? On oil change any alternative to the expensive Yamalube? Like the Venture, took a while to adjust to the additional weight and winding shaft noise but overall happy. I know we are having a hot summer especially in the midwest but it seems this bike puts lots of heat out by the floorboards compared to other bikes. Thanks for any help and happy trails.
  6. I looked around and haven't found a thread about this, so I apologize it it's been addressed earlier. I've been working on my '86 VR since Thanksgiving weekend, just taking my time and doing maintaince / repairs and any mods I think need to be done. I started the bike last night so see if the new plugs I installed smoothed things out (they helped a lot) and noticed how much air the carbs suck with the tank cover off. It seems like the tank cover would make it hard for the bike to breath very good. I know a few have opened up holes in the air filter box cover to get some more air in that way, but has anyone tried modifing the tank cover to help it get more air from the outside? Seems like it would help the bike quite a bit. Thoughts? Thanks, Mick
  7. With my girlfriend starting a new temp job last night and 47 degree celcius temperatures (with humidity) it was best to stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning. What else to do but something bike related. :-) I put together the following chart based on my experiences, Yamaha specs, magazine articles, and member experiences. The figures are based on a "stock" RSV with normal fuel tank and un-corrected odometer. I've also taken into consideration what the "real" main tank capacity differences are from spec (0.5 U.S. gallons) in calculating maximum distance and "real" total fuel capacity. Some numbers don't total up due to rounding. I've wondered just how far I can go on a tank of fuel, or gotten to the point where I was wondering if I could make it to the next gas station before I ran out of fuel and would have to walk. Hopefully this table is helpful to others. NOTE - "Low Fuel distance travelled" counter comes on at inconsistent points because of leaning the bike into a corner when you are low on fuel. Once it starts the count down it stays on. The low fuel indicator light goes on and off depending on the lean of the bike.
  8. Logo came off and broke..need one or two if anyone has any..out ov warrent 06 RSTD. Ron
  9. Got a question about the fuel tank on my '91 VR. The problem is I don't have the owner's manual. I'm rather anal about performance and I'd really like to know what I'm getting for fuel mileage. To do that I need to keep an accurate tally of how many gallons I pump, but I can't do that if I don't know when the tank is actually "Full." For example, I can "fill up," stop pumping, and then watch the fuel level drop slowly. Another squirt and I get the same thing. I know there is an over flow tank involved here, but I have no idea when to stop pumping gas. FWIW, I filled up last night and the bike is getting approximately (Oh how I HATE that word....) 33 MPG around town. This is riding 2-up with a Voyager Kit.... Any help will be greatly appreciated
  10. I saw this on another site, and it looked like fun. Since we are all riding now, and seeing all the sites. When you come across a tank, stop and get a pic of your bike with one. I was going through Redfield SD yesterday and I came across this one....
  11. Can anyone recomend a magnetic mount tank bag for my 09 RSV? I need it to hold my phone, wallet, glasses and small odds and ends. If you've used one with sucess I'd appreciate pictures! Thanks!
  12. I've done about all I can do to my carbs over the last couple of years and have done alright with fuel mileage. Usually pull between 36 and 40 mpg in town a running in traffic. I'm not all that gentle on the throttle most the time. I was happy with that. A good day is 42 to 44. I had a morning off for a change today so I took off and wandered around on the back roads for a while. Did about 300 miles. I've always wondered how far I could push the bike for miles before I ran it dry. I usually lose my last fuel bar about 140 miles and start looking for a pump. So today I filled a gallon gas can and put it in the side tank and figured I would find out. I kept my speed as close to 60 - 65 as I could for most the miles and lost my last bar at about 160 miles on the odo. Kept rolling until I got nervous as the last 45 miles were going to have to be Interstate. Stop and filled it up. 226.4 on the odo. Took 4.73 gallons. That figures to be 47.86 mpg. I got nuttin to complain about. I must have learned something hanging around here. Ok, So I did not get to answer one question I had. I know the tank is 5.3 gallons. I should have had about 1/2 of a gallon left. Any of you know about how much you can actually draw from the tank? Later, Mike
  13. Anyone have any step by steps to for gas tank removal from a 2006 RSV??
  14. Many times I go for a short ride and then when I return, I fill the gas tank again at home with my 5 gallon can so when I want to go for my next ride I can without the need to stop at the gas station to fill up. My question is, what is it about the tank design that each time I top off the tank the gas level slowly goes down. I did this one time about 5 times then quit.
  15. In the Texas panhandle, I was lucky to get 30mpg on my 99 RSV, but here Kentucky Im averaging in the high 30's with a new high of 39mpg on today's fill up. It's the first time I've ever ridden the bike 200 miles on the same tank of fuel. Maybe it's finally broken in with 101,700 miles on it. About this time last year, I was complaining about not getting 160 miles to a tank of fuel!!
  16. Was considering on doing the hole punch thing this week as shown. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=302 So now that this has been a while how are folks doing with this mod? My tank is already removed anyway so I myself will give it a shot! Jeff (BOOM)
  17. Never could find the articule about loose screws on a RSV, but, I know it will happen to the: left and right saddlebag lids trunk lid Now, for my story... Thursday I decided to take the 650 VStar midnight custom out for a spin and rode about 50 miles. Was going down a straight away when "sprong" the top of my gas cap came off and started to go to the road. I hit it with my right knee and it landed in my lap. Then, a metal/rubber section came up and i did the same thing. I slowly stopped and looked at pieces in my lap. In all 3 pieces. A brass piece a rubber piece and the chrome topper. I stuffed a leather glove down the tank hole and proceeded home. Out of curiousity I discovered my RSV locking gas cap fits beautifully on the 650. Probably the exact same cap. Now, I have to drain the gas tank and retrieve the two phillips head screws and the aluminum spring assembly that must have fallen into the tank. Guess what I'm saying is, the gas cap screws need to be added to that list...
  18. I rode from Buckley to South Prairie to Ohop Lake to Eatonville to Alder Lake State Park. Checked out a couple of camping sites then back. Put some more Seafoam and toped off the gas tank. VR ran perfect.
  19. I'm in need of the cord that comes from radio out to the tank cover. '86 Venture Royal.
  20. Okay I know this exist but can't seem to find it. My better half and I are taking two long trips this year. Both are approx 2000 miles each way. We plan to break it up into 3 days then 2 weeks of riding the 3 days back and 1 to recoup before going back to work. Not that any of that has anything to do with my question but I am getting very excited about the trips. My question is this: I have a Garmin (older one) 2730, and a Nuvi. Is there a program that besides gives routing but will accept input as to how far to space fuel stops and suggest stations around that area. IE I will want to refuel every 225 - 250 miles. (I have a 27 gallon tank but only get about 11-12 mpg when towing the bikes. (sucks) So my range is a bit over 300 miles per tank but don't want to push it.I can find the info with Mapquest but it is a real pain. Is there a better way?
  21. A local leather shop made this bra for me. His suggestion was to fasten the bottom through the bottom tank bolt rather than use clips. I am very happy with it. Only cost me $50.
  22. maybe someone here can help me i have a little spark for the front two cylinders back two are running fine tried sea-foam still on the first tank with sea-foam plenty of power going through the gears any ideas????
  23. My boss went out to her bike to find a horrible surprise. Her tank had collapsed on itself. The tank vent was plugged up and the vacuum crushed the tank. The tank was low on fuel. She had been riding in the 80+ weather we had last week and parked her bike in the shed. Temps dropped back down to below 30.
  24. Anybody know where I can get a good tank bag? Will magnetic ones sratch my paint???
  25. I ordered a hopnel tank bib and when it arrived I tried to install it and the gas filler hole was to small and was cut about 3/4" to low for the filler opening. What is happening with this product as I have seen other people with the same problem on this site. I sent a email to the company yesterday that I purchased it from but haven't heard from them yet. How many have had this problem, are these still made by Hopnel or is it a different company????
