  1. Last summer, I picked up set of warn-n-safe gloves and jacket at the local shop on clearance. I then found out my bike couldn't handle the load so they just sat. Now that I have the new ride, I'd like to get them hooked up. So my question to those of you have this stuff, where do you mount the controller or should it just go in a pocket or something like that. Do you need to get at it very often? I know they have several different versions of the controller and I'm wondering which to get and how to hook it up.
  2. This one seems to be pretty good if you looking for facts on stuff.. http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=population+of+texas
  3. I just washed the liner of my helmet in the clothes washer, 5 years of "stuff" sure can change the color and smell. Then I sprayed a little Simple Green inside and wiped out the stuff again. What do I us to clean the outside ? Wax... Pledge... ? Thanks for any advice Cb
  4. Hi guys Dave from the UK, RSV rider since 05, bike 5yrs old now with 12000 miles on it. I see a lot of bikers over here with jackets covered in Harley stuff and i would like mine covered in Venture/Yamaha stuff. Cannot obtain much in UK they dont even sell the bikes over here, mines an import any help would be great. Dave ( UK )
  5. I read the thread on windshield cleaners, but here is my problem: I have been using an aerosol cleaner with a wax in it for 4 years. Does a great job, but now the shield has what I thought was etching, but now seems to be a buildup of some sort. Anyone know what I can use to get that stuff off without ruining the w/s? I can't hardly see through it at night when oncoming headlights hit the shield.
  6. My oldest rigs motherboard failed, and I'm not gonna replace it. So, I have a nice 1.26S/P3 CPU and 512mb of Kingmax PC150. The KM is PC133 RAM that will do 150fsb. Both parts were the bomb back in the day. I also have a Ti4400 vid card,a sound card and a NIC or two laying around. Plus I have some other stuff too...a case, another vid card. more SDRAM. You want it? Just pay for shipping. This stuff would build a badass garage computer. If you have a socket 370 MB that suports the Tutalian P3 CPUs'
  7. Did my fist ride with the warming gear I purchased from Cozy Winters. The set I picked up consists of a jacket and pants liner, gloves and socks. I also bought the dual troller and the cigarette plug adapter. The bike I hooked all this stuff up to is an 86 VR. Great stuff. Rode in 49 degree weather and started to sweat. Turned it way, way down. Can't wait to see if it keeps me warm when the temp is in the lower 30s. Great investment.
  8. ok I got the muffinman's new address. They are suppose to be flying out on tuesday. Might be a few more days then that, but we thought it would be longer till they went at the rate they were going. He'll be at Tarin Kot still in Kandahar Province. So if you'd like his new address just ask and I can send it to you. Seems some big wig showed up last week and put in the order for pilots and had the pallets brought in for their stuff. Actually would be better for them to be there since the planes are there and have to fly down to them now. He probably won't have internet where he's going not sure when they'll have that. I'm just hoping he gets his last package I sent to him. It's a coat, that sand out there gets in everything so they need a canvas type material so they can blow the sand out of them. Margaret
  9. If you have a collection of old vinyl or tapes that you really wish you had available on CD, MP3, etc., I might be able to help. I started converting all my old stuff several years ago, but gave it up because it is just so danged time consuming! After all, you have to play every album in real time and capture the wave file, then take the time to clean it up and label tracks before finally saving the new files or burning a CD. But the cost of replacing hundreds and hundreds of albums is pretty daunting too! Anyway, I'm finally back at that project now that I have more time available, and I have picked up some new software that makes the job a bit easier. So I thought I'd make this offer to anyone out there that might not have the time or inclination to tackle it themselves. I'll convert LPs, cassettes, or 7" open reels to CD and/or any other format for about a buck an album. That would include the labeled CD, jewel case with front and back covers and album art where available. I'll do any genre of music, with ONE exception - I will NOT be within hearing range of rap/hip-hop "stuff", so none of that can be played in this house!!!! I have dolby available for my open reel deck, and I can expand the dynamic range on any format to more closely approach the 90db typical of live music and digital recordings (tapes and LP are often constrained around 60 or 70db due to limitations of the technology). I can clean up pops and crackle in vinyl albums, but there is a limit to what can be done. If the albums are in really rough shape, the sound quality may suffer, or I might have to ask for a little more - that work is REALLY time consuming unless I just let the software do what it wants and accept the results as-is. If I already have a copy of any particular album, you'll get the best copy available, even if it is not from your source. Let me know if you are interested. Goose BTW - this is NOT a money-maker for me, since it takes a minimum of an hour to do one album, and usually 2 - 3 hours each! I'm only offering this to my friends here, and all I want to do is cover my cost of blank discs, jewel cases, printing labels, and stuff like that.
  10. looking for advice/input on purchasing a leather vest - i am also interested in men & ladies leather riding jackets - preferably the collarless type - heck i'm also looking for full face helmets for me & wife w/snell rating and removable liner. i've been goggling this stuff but was wanting some advice from this very diverse group of riders, thanks......
  11. I'm looking for used passing lights and mounting hardware for my Midnight Venture. the reason I'm looking for used one's is ...My wife just bought another Horse ..and I bought someother stuff for my bike ..so my funds is a little down .
  12. Can someone tell me if the vendors are pretty much set up by Thrusday 10/15/2009 on Main Street or is Friday 10/16/2009 a better day to check things out. The Biketoberfest web site says there is also stuff going on at the speedway. Is there an entrance fee for stuff that goes on out there? This will be the first time I've gone to Daytona so I'm not familiar with the event.
  13. OK I need an electrician to help me out here. Half the house is out of power. I already changed the main fuses for the house. There's two of them and their the long round solid ones. I can get pics if you guys need them to understand what I'm talking about. The problem seems to be in one of the fuses. Everytime I try changing it, it pops. First time it did it was a bit of a shock to me. I was hoping that it would be ok. I have to go around and make sure I unplugged everything in those rooms. That's gonna take a bit since I have to crawl under the bed in the spare room with a flashlight and get the stuff out under it to get to the outlet. I've gotten most of the stuff unplugged. I need to know what else to do. Can the socket for the fuse go bad? If so I can get another one, I think. I'll check the local places for that stuff. Actually I'll add the pics of what the fuses look like while I'm doing this now. The first one is one of the main fuses it has two. The second is one of the fuse type that keeps blowing on me. It's a 20amp. Oh I already tried picking Riderdukes brain. He's gonna think a bit more on this for me too. Thanks guys I appreciate this. Margaret
  14. Ok this is for all the folks that asked for Muffinman's mailing address. He's going to be moving, but it should be about a week or so. So if you were planning on mailing anything you might want to do that by tuesday the latest. He said they have a plane that should take about 8 days to get done then there suppose to move. From what he's told me the move will take him to tk I have no idea exactly where that is. He said he heard it's up by Kabul. So the only major change to his address at that time will be his zip code. I'll let you all know what that is when I find out. I have to get the stuff together for his next package. He keeps sending me lists of stuff. Some of which I have no idea what they are and have to look them up so I have at least a pic to go by. So I'll let you all know when I do. OH and in case I didn't mention it thanks. Margaret
  15. I'm looking for a good service manual. I've found clymer and the factory one. What one would be more practical for home use. I'm not going to tear my venture down and rebuild it, just do the basic stuff. I'm also adding some LED lights to it and maybe a louder horn. Maybe a running light kit also..
  16. Cleaned up the garage today and found an assortment of stuff from my Venture that I no longer need. I make no promises about any quality. It all free to whoever wants it, you pay the shipping or we arrange a meet. There is a larger chunk of plastic that I had used as repair material....probably a litle ackward to ship, although not heavy. Let me know if you want any of it...if not it's in Thursday's garbage pickup.
  17. These people are good to deal with. Not sure if I got this right. http://stores.shop.ebay.com/ALL-MOTORCYCLE-USED-PARTS__W0QQ_armrsZ1 They have a ton of stuff and some 1st Gen "Go Faster" parts once in a while.
  18. E Bay, that is! C'mon guys, I've had this '84 Royale lying around my garage in pieces for...holy crap!...five years now! I need to get rid of this stuff! Everything listed in My Ads is still here. I would so much rather have one of you get this stuff than to pawn it on eBay...people I don't know.....but it's coming down to that or the junk man. Most of the body work is either gone or trashed. I pitched the windshield in the trash can last night because even though it's whole, it has scratches and the film is peeling off. The rest of this thing will follow suit quickly. I want it gone by Christmas. Here's the big stuff of value; Frame Forks and triple trees with anti-dive valves front and rear wheels (bare) complete rear brake system engine parts-cases, crank balancer, pistons, rods, tranny, oil pump, clutch, heads/cams, etc. fuel tank w/pump plus lots more! Make me an offer.....let's get 'r done!
  19. Just changed the Coolant in the 83 today and noticed at the car parts place a product called "water wetter" it makes water/antifreeze pull more heat out of the engine and dump it faster into the radiator. http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant.asp Anyone tried this stuff? does it actually work? They claim 30 degree temperature drops.
  20. i got news that we will be on our way back to Georgia at the end of October, so be ready and hide the beer. But the bad i wont be able to ride right away i gota rebuild my forks, and put new rotors on my bike. the good i have been buying the stuff i need while ive been gone.
  21. Just wondered how your 75 mph test run went with the trailer. Took my bike and trailer to wally world tonight---50 lb bag of dog food and some other stuff came home. Don't care if I look foolish, at least I got in an hour ride doing errands.
  22. a coolant called "Engine Ice". This stuff is proclaimed to be a high tech coolant that can reduce operating temps by as much as 50 degrees F. Before I have a couple gallons of this stuff shipped to me, since I can find it anywhere locally, I thought I'd check around with other members and see if anyone has installed this stuff and if they've noticed any improvement.
  23. OK, I've always been told that the proper length for CB coax should be done in 3' increments, with the optimal length being 18'. I've heard that if you cut your coax in lengths shorter than 18', setting your SWR's would be at best difficult if not impossible. So my question is, if I wish to put a CB on my bike, do I need to find a place to stuff 18' of coax?
  24. I searched but there appears to be no answer out there in VentureRiders.org land (yet). Which antifreeze should we be using? Someone told me to use a non-silicate blend and to use Honda (automobile type 2) or the Toyota long-life stuff which will prolong long the life of the water pump. I also see Yamaha has some special stuff at their usual outrgaeous prices. I have been using plain old Prestone green stuff (mix your own 50/50). What's the consensus out about antifreeze out there?
  25. Trying to clean up my work areas and back yard I realized just how many good 1st gen parts I still have on hand. The 84 XVZ1200 parts bike is oly about 25 % disassembled and I still have most of an 87 XVZ1300 motor and a bunch of misc. stuff. Just a reminder, if you are looking for 1st gen parts send me a PM and let me know what you need. Chances are good I'll probably have it. They are going cheap cause I need to clear my space. Thanks
