1. Just bought a 93 VR and center stand is wired up. Looked in manual and can't find a picture of the missing parts. I have a "c" shaped bracket and spring in trunk that went somewhere. Any help? PLEASE... lol:fingers-crossed-emo
2. Hi Guys. Need some help. I am suffering from a bad case of clutch slip. Does the 1999 second gen TF Venture have a clutch spring plate or does it have several, say six small springs like the older machines. I say that it is an spring plate as shown in service manual. 1 in total. The chap who sells EBC parts on E-Bay says it is a set of several springs. As shown below. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11051.m43.l1123/7?euid=e57ef8c1b95d43ddbc200129acc4e73c&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Febaymotors%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D270926331528%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AX%3ARTQ%3AMOTORS%3A1123 Thanks. Neil. Old Miner.
3. FROGS IS HOLLERING SO SPRING MUST BE HERE. I JUST BOUGHT INSURANCE ON THE 89 AND A FAST 84.NOW WHERE DID I PUT MY GEAR?
4. Getting ready to do maintenance on forks and steering head on my 2005 R S Deluxe. any shortcuts for fork removal? Seems a little crazy! I'm used to pinch bolts and down goes the forks. While it's apart contemplating accessory lighting, BIG on function over cosmetics. ALSO Valve adjustment time any Advice/Shortcuts? My R S has 15,000 miles and is 7 years old, put 4000 miles on last year. Last Spring I did shaft drive maintenance and Bled original fluids till clear from clutch and brakes. Flushed coolant and replaced thermo. Any other suggestions while she'sapart? Many Thanks
5. anyone here change the fork oil using the method by freebird?? how much of a pain was it and what kind of oil did you use ?? getting ready for spring maint. and been thinking this would be a good one to do. like i need more fluids to flush and fill...lol
6. Would like to get a ride together to Key West FL. I'll be riding from Sandyville,WV this Spring? Not one for a bunch of bikers getting together, but, know first hand it will "CHANGE YOUR LIFE"... Well... I may be streeeeeeeeeching it a little...
7. Was there a thread about 2 weeks ago about getting a ride up for the Keys some time in the early spring???? If so, who do we need to get in touch with?
8. Those of you that have had to replace your clutch spring, did you double up on the springs? I'm thinking about giving Skydoc 17 some business, but I have another option that I think will hold me over for a while longer. Let me explain. Several years ago I had the clutch in my Vmax start to slip. Not knowing what I know now, I put all new friction discs and a new oem diaphram spring in and corrected the problem. I still have those discs, which by the way weren't worn at all, and the old spring. My question is this, If you were me would you simply double up that spring with the one now in my RSV and ride a while longer with a new gasket, or go ahead and purchase the deal that Earl has? I have the utmost confidence in Harry's product but, I already have these parts laying around. What would you do?
9. I have 87k on a 06 RSTD, I do a lot of riding.. Also I pull a trailer and ride double. I am having some high speed slipping of the clutch, but it still pulls well. Should I change or not.. If so should I go with OMG or upgrade?? Also should I order the Disk and spring as a set or separate. Aint this fun. I think this is one ov the best sites for these bikes for information and to learn a few tips .
10. does anyone have a stock clutch spring laying around from an upgrade? I have a friend who wants to remove the heavier spring and replace with a stock one.
11. Was going to wait until spring ... came across a great deal on a 2001 Valkyrie but lost out to a previous "bidder". Oh well, things happen for reasons I always say (the Valk was a 2-3 day ride away) .... and then I stumbled onto this ... turns out it was the right bike at the right price in the right place, so we bought it. 2003 GL1800A
12. Ok ok I know its early, but I like to plan ahead... Whos up for tryng to set up a Wis Maintenance day for the spring??????
13. OK so I'm a slow learner. I think the attached pictures answers my question but I want to make sure. These pictures come from Bkuhr's pictorial of doing progressives. Am I correct in saying that when installing progressive springs... instead of re-inserting ALL the stock parts, all I need is the spring washer (#4) between the new spring and the PVC spacer (which has been cut to 1") and the cap (#2) and finally the cap bolt (#1) I no longer need the spacer(#3). Have I got that right?
14. Ok. I just experienced a wierd feeling in the clutch which i assume is "clutch slippage". I have a 2000 with 34,000 miles. I have done some reading on here and am wondering a few things... 1. Will a new spring stock sping make a difference? I read one post where someone tried the "heavier" spring and ended up replacing it back with a new "stock" spring. 2. Do i need to replace more than a sping? It only has been slipping in 5th gear with a lot of throttle. 3. What exaclty causes this defect? I have owned old GW and never talk of clutch slippage. Thanks, Larry
15. Have a 2001 RSV with 85,000 miles on it. Am going to replace the friction plates and spring in it as I am getting a little slippage when cranking down on throttle in 4th and 5th. My question is, there are 2 disc behind the clutch basket secured behind a wire retainer, the Barrett kit I bought does not include these, do you think they should be replaced and if so how are they ordered. Also should I go with the more expensive spring conversion kit, or just remain with a new diaphram type. The whine I have learned to live with, so I dont think the price of a new basket justifices the (Maybe) reducing the whine. Thanks, any help appericated.

advice

just got back from seeing my doctor and lawyer i ha ve been fighting a workers comp case for over 3 years and now it looks like we are going to settle check might be here by october all the papers are signed. now thats good news but here is what im asking? my doctor said i can go ahead and try and ride my motorcycle this fall or next spring. as most pepole here know my bike runs fair. but i want to go down to a more easy to ride motorcycle due to my knees and health. so im asking what type of bike would you all think i should look at ? i want a decent yamaha crusier maybe? that i can handle and ride to MD next year. i dont think a 650 cc would make me happy. and i dont want a big heavy touring bike as of now. my price range might be in the 3k range depending on this settlement and the possible sale of the venture. i once had a yamaha maxim and loved that bike. but was thinking along the line of a good virago? so whats your opion on bikes i wont be buying one till next spring. thanks
17. I found these pics in an old file and I realized I never posted them here. I took my daughter to get her driver's license earlier this spring and this guy was parked at the DMV. Don't think I've ever seen a bike quite like this one. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyNjEtMjAxMTA1MDMtMTQ1Ni5qcGc.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyNjMtMjAxMTA1MDMtMTQ1Ny5qcGc.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyNjItMjAxMTA1MDMtMTQ1Ny5qcGc.jpg
18. Anyone have a work-around for a broken torsion spring - it returns the brake pedal to position (if it isn't broken like mine!)? The spring is no longer available from Yamaha and I am growing weary of having to lift the pedal with my toe to stop the rear brake from activating. Any ideas?
19. Hey gang, The guy I bought the bike off of had the center stand tied up to the frame with a hose clamp. Turned out the spring and triangular shaped bracket were missing. I got the spring, but Yamaha doesn't make the plate anymore. Does someone know where I can get one, or would be kind enough to give me enough specs to make one myself. The center stand is much nicer when you want to work on the bike. Thanks, Phil
20. Well I think I am in need of some new clutch springs, at the least. I took my scoot out today with my wife and just let her run. About 4000 rpm I could feel the clutch starting to slip, not much just a little slip, and only in 3rd gear up. Do you all agree that just a spring upgrade is all I need or do I need to think about an entire clutch altogether. Thank You. Shaun I think SkyDoc sells the clutch stuff, will have to dig around.

spring

It is a sure sign of spring, a nice sunny day and the government tax collectors are swarming. Went into town and back today, about 5 miles, went through 5 radar traps and saw two other tax collector cars. Could be worse I suppose, could be politicians.
22. I haven't started looking yet, so I thought I'd save myself some time and ask. Do I have to split the fairing to get at the OD light bulb on the 2nd gen? I think it is the bulb or loose connection. It stopped working late last year just before I put it away and I forgot about it when I was getting the bike ready this spring, UNTIL I got on the highway. It doesn't work most of the time, but it does work occassionally. It's not high on the priority list but it will get done sometime... Thanks, John
23. Does anyone have any concerns with these ebay Progressive Springs. Suggested Retail: $92.95 The Original Progressive Rate Fork Springs soak up the small road bumps, yet are firm enough to absorb the molar-rattling ones. Spring rates have been chosen to reduce front end "dive" during braking, yet still provide excellent ride comfort. Better yet, we warranty our fork springs for life! Progressive Rate Fork Springs have several advantages over straight rate springs. A straight rate spring only offers linear resistance to compression and is a compromise. For example, if you have a 20lb straight rate spring, it will take 20lbs of force to compress the spring one inch. It will take 20 more lbs of force to compress it the next inch, and so on, until the end of the travel. A Progressive Rate Spring has the advantage of a rising rate resistance to compression.

25. OK I see all the threads and posts about upgrading the spring on the RSV clutch but can't find anything on where to purchase the upgraded spring kit. I am getting a tiny bit of slippage when I really roll the throttle back in 2bd gear and thought if I changed the spring to the upgraded one it would stop this. What do you all think anf if you think mit will solve the problem which kit and where do I get it. Thanks Rick
