  1. so after much analyzing , ive come to the conclusion that my the carbs on my 98 need to be synchronized...is it a hard task?? or am I better off taking it to a shop ?? how much would a shop charge for that?? thanks
  2. putting tri-wing trike kit on my venture, going decently , some holes are being modiftyed, too tight to work without some mods but doing it at friends body shop so I got anything I need. guess which is at end off day.
  3. Some one here has a sense of humour... I rec'd a package an hour ago.... Apparently someone here..... or..... maybe not ......called The Harley shop and bought me a Harley jacket for me Black with orange Stripe I called The shop all they can say that it was from the States :rotfl: I'll take some picture later
  4. Has anyone encountered THIS one before? At the end of the season last fall I had my lines and cables switched over to black braided steel which look good, feels good.. However, at the end of the season, I was no longer able to engage cruise control on the bike, either in 5th or 4th no matter what I did.. the lights would cycle through but when you released the throttle it wouldn't engage and then start the lights cycling all over again as if you hit a huge bump that disengaged it.. I have a very deep suspicious feeling that this started due to something the Yammy shop forgot to hook up or broke or pooched somehow. I KNOW it worked before going into the shop but stopped working after I got it back from the shop, but it was a few weeks afterward before I actually tried to use it.. I'll pulling the tank off the bike this week to change plugs, so now is the opportune time to have a look to see if anything is amiss.. Can't ride the bike yet, still winter up here.. but if there is something I can check now, I would certainly appreciate any help forthcoming.. I don't know what to look for at this point.. I'm gonna NEED my Cruise Control for the big trip in May lol Thanks again M8
  5. Went by the shop today to get a new front tire and while there i inquired about battery prices, I was planning on ordering one online for $85 but since the shop was going to charge me the same thing, why bother?! Here's the point, the battery I bought did not have a probe, However!!! the probe cap from the old battery fit on the new one so I now have a new juice box with probe. for whatever that is worth..... I should maybe fess up that I had not checked fluid levels on the old one :whistling:and two of the cells were about an inch low, two were at or just below the low mark and the remaining two (including the one with the sensor) were still OK. Kind of defeats the purpose, to have a sensor and it only reading one cell. Might explain why the battery seemed weak:doh: Bike still was hard to start when leaving the shop and the mech said it sounded like one of the carbs "just kicked in". he said it was interesting, maybe one of these days i can get to a MD and have someone with more sense give me an opinion:scratchchin:
  6. I called my local Yamaha shop to have them do a tune up and check my bike out.(1983 venture royale) They told me they will only change the tires and oil on my bike.I guess i will no longer go there to get parts. I have never thought a shop would turn down work because the bike is too old. Thanks just venting Doug
  7. Left work last night in a snowstorm with it blowing snow so hard , top speed was 15 mph ....took me more than 2 hrs. to get about 3/4 of the way home when it happened......The drivers side wiper took a dump....found a parking lot to pull into(thank God there was one right there) hope that the arm just became loose...nope...right side works, drivers don"t.... it justs flops around.....called my son out in the storm to get me....sorry son...by the time he arrived the storm had passed...so my truck is in the shop being repaired today (at least I had today off)...and here I sit waiting for the ups guy to finish delivering the rest of the Christmas gifts I ordered , I need to go to the post office to send out some vr wraps.... . probably should shovel out the drive again (snowblower still broke, shoveled till 10pm last night)......and waiting to hear from my repair shop...Think I'll get another cup of coffee and wait for spring to arrive..I hate winter...maybe a bowl of ice cream will help ??:ICgrin:
  8. CB antenna broke off some time ago (2003 RSV) Took bike to CB shop yesterday - new firestick antennas (4') - radio and CB side They hooked up SW meter -- getting very little out put -- it will key up -- but not enough to transmit -- shop said radio probably bad -- broke antenna may have had something to do with it Any ideas? -- need all new radio unit? Bill Austin
  9. not sure waht the problem could be? i bought this bike over 2 years ago. it sat for a year. but was started twice a month? i bought it rather dirt cheap. i think. $1200. since then i installed new windshield, brakes and rotors, new dunlop tires, and put seafoam in the tank and down the carbs, ok now here is the problem. after the seafoam treatment and somoked like hell LOL i let it sit for 2 days and continued to fire it there after. due to a severe knne injury i could not ride it:95: well today i had to move it to my brother inlaws gargae. it sat out side for 2 weeks under a very nice custom cover. i started the bike it would just die and not idle well. i let the choke on about 1/2 way and she ran ok. i then let the choke off it would idle for about 2 minutes and then just chug on down to about 700 rpms. then start to back fire . i would crack the throttle and it would hesitate but then rev up ok. i then took off for the 25 mile ride. to the brother inlaws house. knee brace on. and all. the bike just would not get past 55 mph???? in top gear it would act like there just was no more power to give?? being that its going on good old winter time. and being in bad shape. i dont have time to dig into it. but would love suggestions on whats going on. total knee replacement on friday the 13 th . so time to work on the bike will have to come slowly. unless i find a good shop around here. there is a harley shop here that worked on it once but that shop kept putting my bike back in the shop and took 3 weeks for a tire change and brake job. can you say they didnt give a **** about me just when i went in there and complained enough they finished it and then had the never to say they didnt want my kind of customer around there shop. now i have to find some good old boy or shop willing to help a old goat get this old bike up and running. it has 77.000 miles and in my honest opion wasent taken good care of after the person i got it from went total harley. no offense to harley owners. but i grew up where no matter what ya rode. if ya see a 2 wheeler broke down along side the road you stopped to give help. and yes i also own what harley owners call the girrlie bike a 883 huger.. well enough will any one help a old goat:innocent-emoticon:
  10. barend

    1200 wing

Friend of mine bought a 1200 wing, went through the carbs and had a shop do the same. He says it still has a slight hesitation and the shop says they can't get rid of it either. He says the bike runs great with a little choke?? Any of you have any ideas on what might be going on with his bike? Thanks!
  11. Thanks to all the help we're getting, the new shop is taking shape. CdnDave helped out a lot with building a loft in the garage attached to the house, so that I would have permission to do some reno in the shop for better accommodations. Wizard765 has been very busy pulling wires from here to there and arguing with the owner,,,, usually the owner let;s him have his way. Son Allan came down to help out raising the loft 18" so it was more usable. No pictures, but Arnold, a freind, came down with a new insulated sectional door and installed it. All in all, a lot done so far. Thanks guys. Now that you found it, guess you're welcome anytime.
  12. I don't know how many of you knew Colin - he started the UK Venture Club and was active in touring with the motor touring club europe (MTCE). I didn't know, but was just looking up the shop phone number for a UK member. This is the news report: http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/news/2009/september/23/three_kent_bikers_killed.aspx He wasalways very welcoming in the shop and it was only a few weeks ago I dropped by with a pack of biscuits to tell him about the carb diaphragm replacements I had fitted. He was looking forward to his next tour. just doesn't seem possible. I've just lifted this info from the UK site:
  13. I have a coworker that owns a 98 Goldwing. I was telling him about how I got the shop manual for my Venture from here in .pdf form. He isn't Internet savy, so I told him I would check the net for one for his bike. Before I search the Web, do any of you Goldwing owners already have the .pdf Shop Manual for a 98 Goldwing? craigr
  14. well everybody, I just added about four feet to the length of my trailer I pull behind my 91VR. HAd to add length to stop the thing from tail wagging on me. My question is is there anyone near by that can weld? I would rather pay and meet an memeber instead of taking it to a local welding shop. If there is anyone available and willing I will pay for time and lunch, dinner ect. I'm in Mcleansville NC just east of Greensboro. The trailer is able to be pulled soi can bring it to your shop or place that you desire. Thanks in advance. David
  15. http://www.brewracingframes.com/id75.htm - if you only read ONE post today, make it this one. we use this stuff like water, EVERY DAY!, it's a miracle no one in our shop has been killed by phosgene gas. just jt
  16. Its raining so hard I cant make it to the shop in my back yard, I would be soaking wet by the time I get it unlocked and open, so looks like my work resuming on the old girl will have to wait till I get a break in the rain, and its in the forecast for the next 7 days, so even if I get if finished in the next week, wont be able to ride it......what a drag.Just hope the shop and the bike don't float away.:depressed:
  17. I have heard and read about the Avon V Dunlop tires. I have heard about the 150 v 130 for handling. And I have been reading about the Motorkote saga. Well here is my story, I decided to go with the Avons front & rear last week of June 2009. Front end had a little hop when I first picked up bike from service. Was going to take it back and then thought it was the way they banded the tires together from factory and it would come out of it. (They were banded tight causing the tires to sink in where the six bands were). Well not sure if it came out or got use to it but bike started to get a shimmy in the front when stopping. Thought it was the "black-top" road, then it started doing it on pavement. Well I took it back last Saturday to the shop as I had to go to Omaha to work for the week. Shop called me at 10 am on Monday said the tire was not true (around or side to side) but still was in balance. Said they called Avon and Avon was going to replace the tire free of charge (had to pay for mounting & balance). Shop mounted a Donlop 130 E3 on it and test road it to check everything else and said bike road like a dream compared to when I brought it in. (My thoughts were "Yah,,,Right") Well Avon was sending a new tire and it "would" be here before the long weekend. WRONG.... Shop called me as I was heading back from Omaha today and said tire did not make it. So I said is the Dunlop still on it? Shop said yes, I said leave it on and I would buy it and have the Avon as a spare when it comes in. (Why not right)? Figured I could check out this fantasy of the 150 V 130 this way. WOW!!!!!! I could tell the first 50 feet this tire was great at low speeds! I took it out on the road, put on 5 miles in town 25 on highway then came back and paid for it. Road home changed close and also put in MOTORKOTE 4oz in the oil. (Pick it up at a Flying J in Omaha, 32 oz paid $22 for it. "They charged me wrong price the shelf said $29 but who am I to argue, right?) Anyway went for 75 mile ride. Tire is GREAT handling, has more noise than the Avon (even a bad Avon). The wonderful chirp "even after only 75 miles" is 30 to 40% quieter. I am hard of hearing and I now hear more of the exhaust that the "chirp" was covering. COOL,,, sounds great. I will give the 130 E3 Dunlop and the MOTORKOTE a better run for the money this weekend. This will be two up not just me. Not sure where we are going but who cares right as long as we are riding! 130 V 150???? So far 130 has it hands down for handling for me. Believer. Avon V Dunlop for noise??? So far the Avon was quieter, for me. MOTORKOTE??? Up in the air so far, but looking good , for me. More up-date later, my two fingers that I type with are tired now. Bryan...Who wishes he would have paid more attention to the typing teacher then the cute brunette in the desk in front of me.
  18. Everything works, engine spinns over but will not fire. Don't know where to look or what to look at for that matter. Shop said to bring it on in, we'll only charge you $85 to check it out.
  19. Jamie and I have decided to open a motorcycle repair shop and we just interviewed our first employee, here is how it went.............[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey0gLcNXjAw]YouTube - Lewis & Jamie's Busted Knuckles Cycle Shop[/ame]
  20. Does anyone know where I could purchase a new seat covering for a 86-93 first gen? Are the available or do I need to take it out to a shop to be recovered?
  21. I'll try to make this short, but allot happened in 6 hours at Columbia Power Sports Honda. My Dunlop 404 went bald two weeks ago after a long ride on the BRP. I was behind the eight ball and needed a tire installed yesterday. The Honda shop has free tire installation on Weds in Aug. Settled on the Elite III, they had one in stock. Showed up and waited a while before getting RSV on lift. New tire installed. The shop manager looks at the tire and tells me they accidently installed a 404. WHAT? My 404 didnt last long enough, I wanta Elite III. No problem. Bike goes back on lift. 404 comes off and I notice the guy struggling with the E III. Manager tells me the E III was shipped with packaging holding the side walls pinched together. They normally need to set them in the sun to soften them up before mounting. Another thing, it is a 80, not a 90, which hurts mounting also. They tried every trick in the book. Two hours later and a 2 mad Mechs, they gave up. OK, put a Vemon on. We only have that 404. OH Brother !!! No other options so they put the 404 back on rim. Set me back &132.00 OTD. I will say this. The Honda dealer has a very friendly staff and I even drove a simulator (cool). As last thread stated, talked to a SC HP biker and other salesmen. They only had good things to say about the RSV. So that was my day at the Honda shop. Next time Sleeperhawk and dave will have the honor. The good news, I'm headin for Vogel this morning. YEEEE- HAAAA
  22. Stopped at the local Honda shop today to get a filter (yama shop 70 miles away). They crossed to a Honda #15410-MFJ-D01 by way of a K&N 303. Does anyone know of a reason I shouldn't/couldn't use this filter. It appears to be a new number starting back in 2007. Looks to be the correct size, same as what's on my bike now. I've not been able to cross this on any of the referenced charts I've looked at. Dealer said the new goldwings are running this. If it's OK I'm thinking most of the cross ref. charts out there need an update. Helpful replies much appreciated .
  23. I rode with my buddy to the Harley shop the other day to get his idle speed adjusted. (08 Ultra Classic) His was running around 500 rpm and the oil light would come on at times. He was worried that it might be starving the top end on oil so it needed to be raised to around 950-1000. We pulled in at about 1100 with an appointment. They took the bike right back into the shop. We looked around for a while and then went to lunch. (2 250 pound guys on my Venture wasn't pretty!!) Making the long story shorter, about 1500(3pm) they come out and say it's ready. The guy said he was sorry for taking so long but that after every setting he had to turn the bike off and let it cool back down. After setting everything back to stock specs his bike went from getting 50mpg to about 40. He's not to happy with that. The idle is at 1000 though. I thought that was a lot of trouble for just getting the idle set. Yes I did show him how hard it was to adjust the idle on my Venture.
  24. I am leaving Sat. Aug 1 for my ride thru the New England States. Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share a contact name/number if you live in these states in the event I need to call and ask for advice. I'm referring to if I break down or some other emergency. I have Allstate roadplan so the tow is not a problem. Just trying to prepare in the event I cannot access the internet and I need to ask for advice on shop locations ETC. Please feel free to PM me if you'd rather not post here. Name, number and state would be appreciated. Thanks all
  25. I recently bought a couple lower fairing legs as I was told the finish was shiny. Actually the paint finish is dull with a more "satin" like finish compared to the high gloss on the other pieces of my bike. Color is good, just not shiny at all. Has anyone had any luck bringing back the shine with wax or spray gloss clear coat? I really don't want to take them to a body shop. Thanks
