Anyone have a blown rear shock off a 2nd gen laying around? I'd like to get some measurements off of it. I'm trying to replace the weak rear air shock with a standard spring and hydraulic shock.

My '84 Venture tends to not start after I have washed it. I suspect that the 23 year old ignition wires could be at least part of the problem, and I intend to replace them. My question is, what's the best way to access the coil end of the wires? Do I need to remove fairing parts or perhaps the battery compartment? Puzzled in MI... Skooter

hi all i have spent the last couple of hours looking thru the 2nd tech for stator/battery upgrade info. i have a 99 rsv with over 41,000 miles on it. i bought it ( aug'06 ) from a used m/c shop with just over 21,000 miles on it. have not had any trouble with electrical system so far. but the stator/battery are the same ones that came with the bike. i will be riding to the 08 international venturerider rally in kitchener, ont,ca. i will be pulling a trailer w/all the camping stuff. i have replaced all the lights on the trailer w/led's to reduce the electrical load on the bike. my question is should i replace the stator with the upgraded one from buckeye performance? and is the odyssey pc545 the right battery for the 2'nd gen? i have read commits about the odyssey pc680 but i think it's for the 1'st gen bikes. i'll replace the battery now but rather not replace the stator on the side of the road somewhere, if you all think i should replace it now. while we're having a cool spell here in texas. thanks in advance don

I purchased a new ignition switch to replace my old one. However - I cannot figure out how to remove the 2 bolts that hold the ignition switch on !!! The bolt heads are smooth with a flat top in the center - and they are threaded into a base witch is welded to the frame. Is there a special tool I need to remove these - or is this a drill the bolt out and replace them? I am hoping someone knows the secret to this? Thanks in advance.. Stuart

Is there a carb rebuld kit for the 2nd Gen? Looking like it might be nice to clean up the carbs and replace the gaskets/O-rings. Would like a kit so I don't forget anything. RR

What happens when the diaphragms go ont the 1300 motor? Does it limit the amount of fuel that can be delivered to the cylinders? If so that may account for my very low top speetd. Is it difficult to access the diaphragms to check or replace them?

:confused24:When got my 84 the last owner replace dhte battery with a sealed one and romoved the sensor. this week when my battery seemed to be going out i check it with my charger and got an error saying it had a bad cell. My brother had a new battery he bought but ended up replacing witha gell one along with a hight output genny on his goldwing, so whewn i took my battery out i found the sensor wire hidded and it still has a plug on it. I though maybe i could just replace the sensor. are they still available? or would i need to find one used? Ive never seen one on E Bay

I've seen a couple of posts lately where 2nd gen owners have reported ignition coil failures. I think that both of those bikes were under warranty so you bet I would let Yamaha replace them. For those who are out of warranty though, there is an alternative. Dyna, same people who make the Dyna 2000..now 3000...ignition module also sell coils. If and when I ever need to replace my coils or wires, I will try the Dyna units. I know that Dyna makes quality products and I like the fact that the wires are not molded into the coils so you can change the wires when you need to. I'll never understand why Yamaha molded the wires into the coils on these bikes. Makes no sense at all to me.

The volume control has gone out on my CB. I have had the unit checked out and there's nothing wrong with the CB just the volume switch. Does anyone have any idea where i can get a compatable switch? I don't want to spend big bucks on another CB if I can just replace the switch.

My dad got some stuff for his trike through them, said he ordered it on line, but the website has been "inactive " for a couple of months. They don't have a heck of a lot for the first gen venture, but I saw in the catalog lights to replace the reflector on the trunk. The dealer search on the site only lists 3 for NY and non of them ar very close to me.

Just curious. I'm thinking about replacing the front and rear calipers on the '87VR with some off an RSV. Has anyone ever done this before, and will they work with the 87 rotors or do I need to replace them too. I like the design of the 2 piston free floating calipers on the RSV's...

I bought my 83 about 18 months ago and the clutch has allways slipped if I accellerate hard. Last winter I took the clutch a part and the disc looked OK so I ordered some barnette springs and put her back together. This helped a lot but it still slips at higher speeds and higher RPM's. I assume that I will need to just bite the bullet and replace the hole clutch but was hoping for any advice such as where is a good place to get these parts and, is this a common problem with these bikes? Thanks and sorry if this is a reduntent topic. Tim

Halfway thru a ride today on my 06 rsmv I noticed the top half of my cb antenna gone. The black plastic part looks like it broke off. The stealer said they could replace it for $100+. anyone else had this problem? Is this covered under warranty? Thanks

Can anyone tell me how much trouble it is to replace the front brake switch that activates the brake light. Mine is shot and I have a new one on order.. I need to know if it is a relatively simple job to replace it or if I have to pay my local dealer $80/hour.
