  1. Get a dirt bike and get some experience. It's the only way. All the "do this' and "don't do that" bits of advice are too vague. You have to see, feel, respond to, deal with varying traction first hand to learn how. I rode 20 miles up and back down a gravel road on the side of a mountain with my 6'-2" GF on the back... had a throttle party the whole way. Go get a cheap dirt bike and play with it.
  2. He's right... my VW Jetta TDI gets 50 mpg, weighs 3,000 lbs., has a faster top speed (chip modded) than my RSTD which gets 30mpg, weighs 800 lbs., and is slower than any Yamaha has a right to be.
  3. Nope. The powers that be obviously feel cruiser riders are too dumb to handle any real power, reference the Royal Star and also the Triumph Rocket III Tourer. I've ridden both "before" and "after" models. The RIIIT wouldn't bust the tire loose in the rain... the original RIII did wheelies and scared me.
  4. I used the GPS speed and distance for my calculations... speedo is 7mph off, distance was 6% off... Low fuel light was on at 100 miles.....
  5. Air filters are new, stock paper elements. I synched the carbs recently, etc. Yesterday afternoon, I tore down the carbs to have a look. Not a lot, a few small things. Idle mixture was at three turns, hauled it back to two. Choke linkage was bent slightly, two enrichener plungers were being POSSIBLY held off their seats. Probably by the original owner who dis this.....
  6. E G G Z A C T L Y !!!!!!!! I got the same stuff, chugging, lugging sound, low power, poor economy (25 mpg) and I've fixed a lot of machinery over the years... heck, my WIFE noticed and asked if something was wrong..... but it comes and goes, miss mixes in with the V-4 uneven cadence... hard to say for sure...
  7. I've gotten 25mpg at 75 mph (actual GPS speed) for the last three tanks.... all stock except for cored out pipes. For those who've changed their own spark plugs at the 12k miles interval did they look used up? Or still plenty serviceable? (I'm over on mileage for those)
  8. Sooooo..... what are the numbers? Any performance increase? Baseline hp & torque numbers? After the mods? Inquiring minds want to know...
  9. My neck is ON FIRE... never thought about the BIKE doing it to me... to the guy with the Flanders bar change info... do you have before and after top views?? Any more info?
  10. had the ultimate as well.... the seat is still "V" shaped and KILLED my tailbone. The Russell is even MORE $$$$$!!!!!! DOH!!!!
  11. Try again... http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm98/gsx800ltd/Royal%20Star/
  12. Dude said it was a '96 Royal Star... didn't say Venture. JFWIW
  13. my gawd..... have someone fly and RIDE!!!!! It's just down the street!!!!
  14. I don't have any images.. Their website has two pictures of the seat on a red RSV (close enough to same for RSTD). I just took pictures, measurements and such. Told him higher is OK, etc. Seat is perfect...
  15. www.day-long.com solved my problem. I had the Mustang, but it was too far forward and shaped poorly.
