  1. A Texas State Trooper was patrolling late at night off the main highway. He sees a couple in a car, with the interior light brightly glowing. He carefully approaches the car to get a closer look. Then he sees a young man behind the wheel, reading a computer magazine. He also immediately notices a young woman in the rear seat, filing her fingernails. Puzzled by this surprising situation, he walks to the car and gently raps on the driver's side window. The young man lowers his window and mutters, "Uh, yes, Officer"? The trooper asks: 'What are you doing'? The young man says: 'Well, Sir, I'm reading a magazine'. Pointing towards the young woman in the back seat, the trooper says: 'And her in the back, what is she doing'? The young man shrugs: 'Sir, I believe she's filing her fingernails'. Now the trooper is totally confused. A young couple, alone in a car at night, in a lover's lane ... and nothing obscene is happening! The trooper asks: 'What's your age, young man'? The young man says: 'I'm 22, sir'. The trooper asks: 'And her ... what's her age'? The young man looks at his watch and replies: 'She'll be 18 in 11 minutes...
  2. I ran a tank of of Chevron mixed with a can of Seafoam thru my carbs and then two more tanks with a 1/2 can then let it set for a week soaking while I ran out to Ft Worth. Today it was running better but still idling rough. I tried to get a vacuum reading and the hand was fluctuating on all the cylinders so bad I couldn't get a good reading. Also my right rear exhaust pipe at the block was reading a temp of around 600 deg and the rest were 250-300. Most of my tools and my manual are in Tennessee and I'm basking here in Florida acting like a Snowbird. I can't remember what causes a vacuum to act like that. Any suggestions? Also, can the 600 degrees on the right rear cylinder do any damage? Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.
  3. Anybody know how to rebuild the speedo on a MKII? I have no idea where to start. My speedo on my 91 quiite working the other day. The odometer and the trip odometer are functioning so Im assuming its not the cable. Just not reading how fast Im going. Had to drive home using the tach to gestimate how fast I was going. Nay help will be appreciated. David
  4. I was reading on the Pashnit motorcycle forum this morning and seen this thread. I never gave that much thought about tire pressure gauges reading right. Here the thread. http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28054
  5. ONLY A MAN WOULD ATTEMPT THIS Just try reading this without laughing till you cry!!! Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Tazer for their anniversary submitted this: Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized Tazer. The effects of the Tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety...?? WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home... I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time, I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two AAA batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and then thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong? So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and Tazer in another. The directions said that: a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; and a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries. All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference (loaded with two itsy, bitsy AAA batteries); pretty cute really, and thinking to myself, 'no possible way!' What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best. I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side so as to say, 'Don't do it stupid,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny lil ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad.. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and... HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. WHAT THE... !!! I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs! The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room. Note: If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a Tazer, one note of caution: There is NO such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor! A three second burst would be considered conservative! A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. · My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. · The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. · My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. · My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. · I had no control over the drooling. · Apparently I had crapped in my shorts, but was too numb to know for sure, and my sense of smell was gone. · I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head, which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my testicles and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return! PS: My wife can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift and now regularly threatens me with it! If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! :bang head:
  6. After trying a louder exhaust (barons 424). That seemed to help untill I got used to them or the whine got LOUDER. Well I decided after reading many posts on the subject to try the I basket. Went to my dealer and explained the problem, he checked with yamaha and ordered the I basket. After reading so many horror stories about the dealers not wanting to do this under warranty I thought I would have to argue but that was not the case. Dealer ordered the part and I checked that it was the I basket when it came in. I dropped the bike off yesterday and he called for me to pick up today. I must say that I'm AMAZED at how quiet it is. I'm VERY happy I had this done. Now I only hope it stays this quiet I guess only time will tell. Here's a link of the whine.....[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzN9EMtI0_s]YouTube - Yamaha royal star tour deluxe whine?[/ame] and I will try to post one of how it sounds now this weekend.
  7. I want to hook up a dwell-tach meter that I have from the old days when you could work on a car to my 2nd gen to set the idle speed. There's two wires on it and I think one went to ground and the other to the coil. Anyone know where to hook up to get a reading for tach?
  8. I have been reading and reading and reading and not getting a good feel for my situation. So I will ask the experts! I have a new Piggybacker XL that I bought last year and haven't used. I'm getting ready for a trip in August so figured I should try this thing out. I find a slow speeds I have a very bad shimmy and smooths out a little the faster I go but to tell you the truth I didn't feel very good the way it handled so I kept it at 80kms max/48mph. I wouldn't dare go any faster and headed back to the garage. These are my specs. Trailer Tires - 28psi Rear Shock - 26.5psi Front Tire 42psi Rear Tire 49.5psi Front Forks - I guess 6lbs? on pump 3 strokes before 10Lb mark Tongue Weight 33lbs (weighed by lifting off ball....it was 28 when i chked off bike) Trailer Weight 248lbs (weighed with scale on each tire with tire on opposite side level with scale) Trailer Tires were balanced So what do you think...... Is it possible my tires are not mounted square to trailer frame? Looking for ideas.....I have heard it said many a time that you don't know its behind you so it has to be something I'm not doing right.I can tell you I knew it was there and scared the crap out of me..... Thanks Keith
  9. OK need some input here.... Being the only mechanic right now I'm kinda pushed to the limits working on Street - water - PD -FD - Comm.labor - sewer - meter reading vech...if you know what I mean:headache: Anyway 03 Ford E350 5.4L mtr A\C system..Front & rear air R\R A\C comp. 10. 1983 VR, 86,000 km Here's whats happening: A few rides ago, I noticed my temp guage dropping to bottom every few minutes...like a loose wire or something. Today, I noticed my voltmeter reading 9-10, previoulsy it was always at about 13 After a fairly long ride, there wasn't enough power to start...like battery was dead. On the way home it was missing occasionally...like starved for fuel or spark. At one point, I was sitting at a light and put on my turn signal, and the tach was pulsing with the flasher! It was bouncing from 1100 to 3000 when at at idle (tach reading only...not revs) So does this sound like TCI is on its way out...or could low battery from poor stator output do all that?:mo money:
  11. If anyone reading this has a good set of the dual downturned exhaust/muffler extensions for a 1st Edition, and is willing to part with them for ???? $$$$$$, let me know. I would really love to hear from ya. Thanks MG
  12. Took my !st Gen RV to the JAX M&E yesterday and Chicken Hawk was kind enough to bring his Carbtune tool to sync my carbs. When connected to the carbs and with the bike warmed up and idling about 1000 rpms the tool barely showed any vacumn reading until revd up. The bike idles ok and accelerates fine with the only problem being a somewhat slow throttle response but it is just not exactly smooth. I had taken the carbs apart in the past and cleaned out the jets and passages, the diaphrams are free of pinholes but probably original. Tried the Seafoam treatment and some suggested checking the tank for any rust although I recently change the gas filter and didn't see a lot of garbage in the old one. I just don't understand what could cause the low vacumn reading which is preventing me from syncing the carbs which I feel is all it needs to run better. I have no problem driving it like it is but would like to put the plastics back on. Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Oh, and BTW, the bike only has 16,000 miles on it.
  13. OK, OK .. I know this ain't about motorcycles but where else can a guy get the greatest feedback about almost every topic under the sun? Nina's Kenmore cannister vac c/w powehead finally packed it in after (according to her) 35 years of use!!! Imagine that... only 35 years! Anyhoo, we're looking to buy a new vacuum and are contemplating a Dyson upright model DC 14 or DC 25. Been reading good stuff about these but the price tag is a little hard to swallow. Anyone got any alternate suggestions/recommendations -or- do you have a Dyson and what's your review on it? Tks for your feedback.
  14. This rsv 07 trike has been sitting for over a year.It runs good ,except it won't idle without the choke on.The trike has 276 miles on it.I have been reading about seafoam, how much should I put in a full tank of gas.
  15. on my 89vr when i turn the throttle my headlight brightens & if I ride over an hour I get slow starts. Now I'am getting an E-4 reading on my compressor control unit. if anyone ha experince tis could you share. Thank you

    Thanks and surprise

I want to thank everyone for all the spline reading and tech on greasing them, also on removing therear wheel it was a breeze after reading how, also the carbon one stand with legs is neater than slice bread too, so thanks for all the contributed to the tech section.. Now I'm kinda tick and not surprise when I took the rear wheel off there was not enough grease on the grear splines nor the pins in the hub to cover a eraser, I mean zip none, this bike has less than 8k miles and to be as dry and they are was joke, I'm such thankful I read about it here.. Get the E3's on tomorrow and back together tomorrow night then I get to look at my new tires and wonder how they would ride, 80% chance of rain Sat. and Sunday..
  17. Hi All I am having problem with I think the charging system. Here are the symptoms - Bike seems to be running fine but my volt meter (kuryakyn) shows a drop in voltage while riding. It reads around 12 then drops to 0 - blinks off and on afew times the 2 red lights will come on then the 2 yellow then goes back to reading around 12. again bike seems to run fine. Last week after a short ride the bike would not start so replaced the battery thinking that was it. So now I am thinking stator or regulator. What do you guys think?? Bill
  18. Well it’s official, I went for my first ride tonight on a 165/80/15 Kumho PowerStar and I was not disappointed. It was just a short run (about 60 mi.) on familiar roads so as to compare the handling. The tire was pressured up to 40psi with 2oz of Dino Beads... it felt great. I bought the tire from the good folks up at ‘OK Tire’ in Stony Creek Ontario for $75. CDN Installed (I brought in the wheel off the bike). They had a bit of a time seating the tire to the rim and had to use an air-blaster to make it catch but said that they’ve had tougher jobs. I’m not sure how much pressure it took to seat the bead but it was up there. They’re great people to deal with and said they would do it again. They did a great job and I give them two thumbs up! Thanks to all those who have posted their comments and opinions (pro’s & con’s) on CT’s, it has all been interesting reading. I value all your opinions and have been reading with interest for well over a year. Now if I can only find an economical way to make it a White Wall, I like what 'eagleeye' has done with his tire!
  19. Planning a bit of a fall ride... 3,472+/- miles in 7 riding days... 20. Alright its time to do a brake job on the RSMV. where is the best place to buy the pads from? I remember reading something about not getting them from the stealership but cant remember where the suggestion was to get them from.
  21. Im sure that some one else has had something closr... When I use the front brakes and I come to a full stop and squeze a little harder the brakes make a noise sounds a little like the chirping that I,ve been reading about... Is there any way to get rid of it ... It seems to get a little loud after awhile Ron:cool10:
  22. First off let me publicly thank KiteSquid who lives close by and was good enough to entertain alot of questions over the phone today. I'll also preface this by saying I am mechanically challenged to say the least. I am confused about the method of breaking in my 09 RSV. Thus far, I have been following the Yamaha manual's instruction of not using more than 1/3 of the throttle. However this keeps me humming along at a constant speed of 55 or so. It seems from other reading this is not good for the engine. Alot of people indicate to just drive it like you normally would, some say vary the speed and all agree change the oil at the recommended 600 miles. Any help, thoughts, tips, advise would be greatly welcomed!
  23. Hi everyone, I am looking for some who can do a voltage check on your tci---let me give what I need. I have an 84 venture, I have 12 volts going to the tci- at all the wires that are 12 volts---- Now what I would like some to do is, do a voltage reading at the 12 volt inputs with the key on,--- Now his what I need to know ---- when you hit the starter WHAT IS THE VOLTAGE READING? mine is droping to about 4/5 volts!!! but will not start. Now everything else is ok, in fact I do get a very weak spark out of the coils. My thought is that I should have 12 volts all the time-can't rember any thing that would drop that low just to start! Also the other parts of the system stays at 12 volts, I hope someone could do a test on their bike just to see if this is where my problem is. Thanks a million guys. tom ---cookieman
  24. I recently bid farewell to yet another lead/acid battery. This one lasted three years. I took the advice of many posts I've seen in here and purchased an AGM type from Interstate. When I installed it the engineer in me just had to test the voltage with the bike @ 2000 RPM's and I found it was half a volt low, reading 13.5VDC and not much more at higher rev's. It never quite made it all the way to 14V. So yesterday I double checked and cleaned all the various connections at the battery, stator and R/R. I tested the stator voltage and resistance as it shows in the manual all tests were fine on all three wires. Last I did the continuity test on the R/R thats shown in the service manual. So here's my problem (Finally!) On all of the R/R tests where I should have been reading continuity I was actually reading approx 400K ohms and not what I would call continuity, which is zero ohms. I also checked it with my old analog meter and got the same results. Is this 400K ohm reading as bad as I think it is? The new AGM battery seems fine on the few rides I've been on since I put it in. FANTASTIC battery BTW. Did I mention, its a 1984 Venture Royale?
