  1. I was wondering if anyone knew the sizes available. Are they being made to fit the 1st gen? I really liked the original commanders..
  2. Hello: For the first time in my life an immediate family member is close to passing. Hospice has been called in for my 88 year old Father. He has out lived his original liver cancer diagnosis more than one year longer than what was expected. We are so blessed!
  3. Noone that I have come across in my life so far is or ever was an original owner. Well, one reletive of mine was and he totalled it setting the cruise so i dont really know if that counts. I guess what im asking if there is anyone who is or was, what made you chose the venture over the GL 1200/1500. Have you ridden both bikes? And what are your key favorite things about both? I just figured this would be a neat thread to start. Well ill buckle up for hopefully a great story!!!
  4. Just want to introduce myself. My name is Jeff, and I'm a bike nut. Whoops, wrong forum...this isn't motorcycles anonymous. LOL Anyway, last week I picked up a 1983 Venture for $200.00 (payable in shots of Southern Comfort at my local American Legion) The bike hasn't been treated well for the past 3 years. I bought the bike from the second owner, but I also know the original owner fairly well. The bike used to have very nice black cherry color paint (original), but now it's Harley orange, and not a quality repaint at that. That's changing soon, as I worked at Home Depot for several years and if I never see Orange paint again, it will be too soon. All the bodywork is currently in a pile as the second owner took it all off so he could get the motor out to repair the bottom case after bottoming out on a large rock that was in the middle of a dirt road. The case has been professionally repaired, but he could never get the bike started again, hence my purchase price of $200.00. With the advice given here, I have a TCI on the way from Dingy that should be here in a couple of days, so hopefully that will get the bike to fire on all 4. I'm slowly figuring this bike out (it's the newest bike I own other than a 1997 Kawasaki KE100) and I'm sure that I'm going to have a lot more questions. Looking the bike over, I think that the mechanical issues are going to be few, but I can see some more electrical issues (other than the ignition) already. I have a new fuse block that I hope will cure a lot of the issues once I install it. Thanks for the help in the few posts I've made since joining here last week. Jeff
  5. .. and hello to the replacement Clarion CMS1. It's made for a marine application, so it can handle the weather. A little larger than the stock commander, but now in the modern age with inputs for sat radio, ipod, and mp3. Still within thumbs reach on the volume, and plenty loud. I yanked the entire original system out except for antenna, and have it posted in the classified section. http://i360.photobucket.com/albums/oo41/josephk300/ClarionCMS1Stereo-remotecommander.jpg The amp unit "under the hood" http://i360.photobucket.com/albums/oo41/josephk300/Fairingbackhalfrightview.jpg Cover for rear control made out of bondo http://i360.photobucket.com/albums/oo41/josephk300/Rearspeakercontrolbondocover.jpg
  6. On Dunlop's website they list the 404 as good for the 99-10 Royal Star Venture, but it is not listed for the 08 RSTD, so I asked then why I got this back as an answer. "Good morning Mike, Thank you for taking the time to contact Dunlop Motorcycle & ATV. The D404 original equipment tire is different from the after-market tire. The D404 original equipment tire is belted, the D404 after-market is not. The Elite 3 tires are belted and have a heavier load-carrying capacity" Really didn't answer My question but is it just me or does this make sense to anyone . A friend put 404's on his 06 and has no problem at all .. Maybe Im over thinking it ?
  7. Fuel pump died yesterday so did a change out today. I went with the Mr. Gasket 42S model and the NAPA 3011 fuel filter. Was a very easy job and cost less than $60 total. WAY better than the $213 price I found on line. Only caveat I can give is to make sure you get the 90 degree, 45 Degree and the nipple and do not use the filter that comes with the pump. There is absolutely no way it will fit in there otherwise. Set it up like this picture I cut the line from the original pump and just connected it to the new wires just to keep it cleaned up. I also cut down the line from the filter to take the bend out and. I did not fasten down the new pump as it all tucked in fine just under the original mounting bracket.
  8. I have a 2005 Tour Deluxe with the original battery (bought Oct, 2004). The bike has a touch over 24,000 miles and is for sale here and in other places. Whether it sells or not, I would hate for the buyer or me to get stranded when the battery dies. I hate to fix something that is not broken, and this original battery works just like it did from day one - but its days have to be over/near over. What is the BEST battery I can replace this OEM battery with? Thanks. Jim
  9. The 5 wire to 4 wire adapter that I installed has been working fine with the H/F LED light kit I put on the H/F tag along, earlier this year. This week end I added red LEDs high on the rear of the trailer for additional tail/turn/brake lights. I also added red and amber LEDs on the corners. They are hooked up with the tail light circuit and work fine. My problem is with the brake/turn circuit. The new red tail/brake/turn LEDs are wired in parallel to the original tail lights. When I turn the ignition on, the low intensity for the original tail lights and the new addition tail lights come on low intensity as they should. If I press either brake pedal, the existing tail lights go to high intensity and the new ones do to. If I turn on either turn signal the proper original turn signal blinks as it is suppose to, but the "added" light does not. If while the turn signal is blinking I press either brake, both original brake lights go to high intensity and the blinking stops, although there is a slight intensity oscillation in both sides. The converter I have is not a "Hoppy" brand. I'm wonder if The additional LEDs have exceeded the capacity of the adapter? I got this one at Ace Hardware. Where have any of you found a "Hoppy"? I need to get this fixed BEFORE Thursday, as that is when we need to head out for Vogel. And if this wasn't enough, while changing the oil this afternoon I noticed an oil drop on the bottom of the rear shock!!!
  10. Does anyone out there have a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale triple tree complete with pinch bolts and the main shaft nut etc? With the information I received from a member I was put onto Steerite, which modifies your original triple tree. As noted above I would like to get a complete set to ship up and have modified. Then all I have to do is swap them out this winter. Thanks, Vic
  11. ...on one side. As far as I can tell, these are the original Yamaha passing lamps. Is there another sealed beam that will work or must I buy the original Yamaha lamp?
  12. I checked out the other threads on this plug topic and came up with two plugs. The original NGK-DPR8EA-9 (Napa - $2.29 each, I purchased today) and this plug in a IRIDIUM NGK-DPR8EIX-9 (Napa - $10.00 each). Napa did not recommend the Iridium, when I asked if they knew anything about them. Napa parts person said the Iridium have been known to burn holes or pits in the top of the pistons. I was planning on using the original plugs anyway. So far I have figured out that the tank and dog bones has to be removed to get the plugs out. Any further advise and help in any way here is appreciated. James (Fuzzy)
  13. I paid a horrible amount of money for this edition of Cycle Magazine, and I am happy to share the interesting bits. I have uploaded the full size images of all the following pics, and they are clear and legible. Any problems and I have the original pages. Lots of it is interesting, but the gas consumption over the trip was 40.6 mpg. That is with a single rider, carrying 20lbs of gear. The gas in 1988 had no ethanol and we should, I think, expect around 1.5mpg poorer with E10. There may be other factors .... add comments So high 30s seems to be about right for one-up, fairly spirited riding. Anyone struggling to read these .... The original images are much bigger, and easy to read. Try downloading these from Photobucket, and if it's still a problem I can send copies of the originals. Enjoy. http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Cycle%20Road%20Test/IMG_0646.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Cycle%20Road%20Test/IMG_0647.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Cycle%20Road%20Test/IMG_0650.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Cycle%20Road%20Test/IMG_0653.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Cycle%20Road%20Test/IMG_0656.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Cycle%20Road%20Test/IMG_0659.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Cycle%20Road%20Test/IMG_0665.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Cycle%20Road%20Test/IMG_0668.jpg
  14. I stopped by to see a customer today in Knox, PA. While talking, I noticed a picture of a '68 Plymouth Roadrunner convertible on the wall beside his desk. I asked him if that was one that he wished he had kept and he said...Heck...I still have it. Turns out that he is a big Mopar fan. He asked if I wanted to see some old cars and of course I did. We ended up walking through 3 buildings full of early to late 60 Mopars and a couple of early 70 models. This was a very nice guy dressed in Dickie's work clothes and you would think that he was just any regular guy but he had probably close to a million dollars worth of cars in those buildings. Not junk...NICE cars. Most were in very nice original condition or very lightly restored. He had 2 Roadrunner convertibles, 2 beautiful Superbirds, a number of early sixty Satellites, 300's, etc. A couple of early 70 Challengers and several other great cars. All had original engines and most were 383, 440, etc. It was a real treat to walk through and see the cars, sit in them and remember the muscle cars from my teen years. You just never know what you are going to run into.
  15. Excuse the acoustics .... she just wrote this one and again, is recording it for youtube in our computer room. Consume Me --- enjoy! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3QCGJH8t1k&feature=share]YouTube - ‪Consume Me- Original by Tiffany Crowe‬‏[/ame]
  16. My last rear brake pads lasted forever compared to the originals but they also wore down the rotor. Looking on ebay I saw several off of the original Royal Stars and Royal Star Tour Deluxes. It looks to me like they should work on my Royal Star Venture. Does anybody know that for sure?
  17. Picked up this 77 Honda CB550 to rehab with my 17 year old daughter. We have been talking about it for years, but I realized I only have a year and a half left. Hoping to take it back as close to original as we can get it. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/The%20Honda%20Rebuild/100_0489.jpg
  18. I'm working with a local custom exhaust shop on a collector replacement. It will be two pieces, one for the front/rear left cylinder banks, and another for F/R right cylinders. The original collector acts as a crossover for all cylinders, would my system cause any tuning issues? I will post info and pics as we progress. Thanks, Briley.
  19. Does anyone have a Pair of Original pipes laying around for the 2e Gen Venture. Finally I got my wife Going with me on the Bike ..But the Problem is ..My Open Pipes are to Loud for her I know many people replaced there Original pipes for other brand pipes....And I'm hoping that someone have pipes laying around that I can buy from them for a good price.
  20. I have been collecting a lot of junk, but not getting a lot of stuff done. My son andI have figured why the 85 Royale did not have any spark when I bought it and it appears to be the TCI. I got one on ebay for $7.50 plus about $7 in shipping as the only bidder and when we plugged it up, the bike started. I have no doubt the bike will need a lot of TLC, but it is complete and we will just have to go through it and see what it is going to take. This was the bike and spare engine I got for $550. It was a bit weird that as part of checking things out, we took the original TCI off the 85 and put it on my 83 and it not only would not start, but when I plugged the original TCI back up, it would not fire either. But, when we plugged up the ebay TCI, it would run. So, I bought another one and got it for $7.99 as I got it with a set of coils and a bunch of relays for a total of about $35, including shipping. This was also exactly the same number as the one on my bike. Hopefully, that will work and maybe I can see if my original 83 TCI is bad. The other part of the projects on my 83 is to replace the engine with the one I got with the 85 deal that is supposed to have only 30,000 miles on it. My plans are to split it and replace the transmission with the 2nd gen RSV transmission that I have, which I only paid $25 for. But, in case there is a problem with the change over, I bought an 86 transmission for $24.95 and forks for $4.99. With all that, plus a starter clutch assembly to have as a backup, I got it all, including shipping for about $60. I thought I did pretty good on that too. I will also put the solid motor mounts in that I got from Steve (SGN) that really look good. The other part of this project is to install the V-Max rear drive I got that I think will go real good with the 2nd gen trans. The one thing that is going to cost me is I took my Corbin seat to an upholster today and that is going to cost about $250 the be redone, ouch. I really like the seat and it works real good for me with the modifications I have already done earlier, so I hope it will be worth it. Soooooo, now my biggest thing is to get motivated on getting something done. I probably need to get the 83 running good before I try to replace the engine as I will be using my original carbs. And, as a backup, if there are any problems with the 85 engine or transmission, even though it is about 500 past the serial number fix, I will have my 83 engine and it already has an 86 transmission. 21. Looking for the headsets and lower cables for 92 venture trying to keep all the original equipment on the bike that i can,
  22. What battery is everyone using? My original only lasted 1 1/2 years. I replaced it (in an emergency from the local parts store) with an Interstate, and this one only lasted 1 1/2 years. I know batteries do not last forever, but I normally get at least 5-6 years on my other bikes. What is everyone using? Original? Yuasa? Gel? Now with snow still outside I have planty of time to make a better choice.
  23. this option looks promising. I googled the parrot sk400 and got a lot of good reviews. http://wireless.1saleaday.com/ Of course there is a newer version of this also. The one on sale is the original from what I understand DAvid
  24. I got a new to me bike today, and I am so excited. I've been looking for one of these for the past few years, and finally found and bought a really good looking one today. It's a 1988 Honda NX250, a great little dual purpose ride. I got it from the second owner with all the original paperwork, 2 original keys, Owner's Manual and Service Manual and even a few extra parts. And it seems to be in great shape. I only rode it about 20 miles today, and it was just plain fun. One reason I'm so excited is I actually had 2 of these same bikes back in 1988. I won them on the "Price Is Right" in '88. I kept both of them for quite awhile, and then sold one and kept the other another couple years or so. Thinking back, I don't know why I sold it. More recently I've been looking for a good one for about 4 years now. This one came up on Craig's List a couple days ago, I finally had a chance to go see it earlier today, and now it's mine..... ....and my son's. He's 17 and this will be a great bike for him to start off on. I love my RSV and it's a daily rider for me, but I think I will be doing more puttin around town stuff on the little Honda. Now let's see about sharing some photos.
