  1. I was informed that OEM HD slipon muffler can be added to my 05 RSTD for a slightly richer growl. Is this in fact the case and can other HD mufflers be used like a HD SE I did a search and wonder if other HD OEM could be used and if aftermakets for the Road King like SE could be used. What year did HD start making cat converts. This mod would be a great alternate to RSTD OEM. Thanks in advance Nevada Maxey
  2. Still having comfort problem with the RSTD OEM seat. Any suggestion on after market e.g. Mustang or Corbin Thanks in advance Nevada Max
  3. Howdy Just acquired on my birthday, a 05 RSTD in great shape after being a VTX guy. Huge upgrade. Live in Northern Nevada been riding since 1968 (YR1) from Nortons to HD to BMWers but back to the Metrics for class. I'd like to shave my OEM seat and hear that Rick Butler does a fantastic job of contouringn the seat to let you ride the bike. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance Norm
  4. I cannot get any pressure for the rear master cylinder. I rebuilt it, and suspect that the problem lies in the proportioning valve. I can get one new for about 150 online. My question would be, does anyone know what years this part was the same. Our bike is an 84. Or if not, at least an OEM part number, all the sites i find only give a SKU number.
  5. Well Ive been fighting with myself the last while as I am not totally liking the OEM cassette am/fm radio in my 85 1st gen . I really do prefer to leave things stock as the manufacturer intended, but i just cant seem to get the sound out of the system that I like. Even after having the casette player/radio rebuilt I still have trouble with sound fading in and out on the right speaker (new Pioneer speakers installed also). So tomorrow night with a friend we are going to install a Sony cdx-m30 cd radio unit and run new wiring for the audio in my ride. This unit will allow me to mount an ipod and a satellite unit in my trunk(with the Sony adapter cabling) and still be able to control the music at the head unit or with the wireless remote I will mount somewhere convenient. I have the blank OEM filler panel where the OEM radio sits so we are going to cut an opening into that to mount the new unit. I am going to try to save the original mounts and connectors if possible so if i want to drop the old unit back in it will be a snap to do. I will try to remember my camera tomorrow night. Brian:cool10:
  6. Dummy me broke my CB antennae while removing my bike cover off my 2002 Venture...the Dealer wanted $180.00 to replace the OEM antennae plus labor. A friend told me I should swap out the OEM antennaes for an upgraded version. He suggested I use semi truck antennaes. He said he knew someone had done it before but he did not know how. While at a big truck stop, I spoke to a CB shop and they needed a ton of information about the bikes antennae, CB and radio before he would work on it. Of course, I knew none of the info he needed and nothing was in the owners manual. So, is there anyone out there that knows how to do this or has this information and can help me out? I would need to know which antennaes to purchase, any info about the process and who I can take it to, to have the work compelted. I would like to take it to my dealer but am open to whatever makes the most sense. Thanks in advance for any help...
  7. 330239615319 http://www.ebay.com Looks interesting. Wonder what he did to the intake system. Lots of ingenuity in that build. I like the cut down stock fairing. Or at least the use of the stock speedo. Not sure if it's a cut down OEM one or not.
  8. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone at VentureRider, for you help, answers and recommendations, I just finish with my bike. I replaced the handle bars with the Flanders, new brake lines and cables, they work fantastic. At 5'7" now I do not have to reach forward anymore. I used the complete OEM grips assembly and they worked out perfectly. I replaced the OEM mufflers with a pair of Harley touring ones (without drilling anything out) I picked up on e-bay. I used the 31-9920 clamps and they are perfect. A friend manufactured the bracket out of aluminum and polished it too. Everything went on just as I have read here. Now I have the sound I was looking for. Yes here are the pictures. Thanks again everyone!! BTW thank you to also Don for your help as well as the site. I do not know of anyone other than another Venture Rider can tell that anything was done. Mission accomplished.
  9. Dose any one have a mirror base from a broken right hand mirror for a 1Gen 83 or one that would fit. I want to tap it and see if I could put after market mirrors on them the OEM ones are so high. Dale

    Rain X and OEM Windshield

One of the guys going on our cross country trip has an OEM Windshield (17")on his RSMV. He is taking Rain X in anticipation of the rain we will hit. I believe that Rain X is a No No for this Windshield. It will Blister it. Am I correct? What about the ShowChrome Windshield? Can I use Rain X or do I need something else?
  11. Greetings experts. I have yet another question for you geniuses. So I've been using a technique for years for restoring plexiglass and other plastic stuff with scratches involving 400grit wet/dry, 1600grit wet/dry, then 2000grit wet/dry, then rubbing compound (usually turtle wax rubbing compound - as opposed to turtle wax WAX) then finally a polishing compound like quixx (orange box at wal-mart works great - usually). When I tried that formula on the OEM 2nd Gen RSV windshield I discovered that it has this weird coating on it that does NOT like to be sanded. I was finally able to fix the problem I created for myself by sanding the ENTIRE inside surface of the windshield (as opposed to the 4 square inches I was actually trying to fix in the first place. So I guess I have two questions: 1. what the hell are these windshields coated with and 2. Anyone have a 2nd gen full-sized RSV windshield to sell? Okay, I guess I have a 3rd question: has anyone tried one of the aftermarket "oversized" windshields being sold on e-bay? They claim to be a few inches taller and wider than OEM. I'm curious how that impacts aerodynamics etc... thx, Danny
  12. Well, finally was able to go for a ride this morning ,after a long winter . Just could not wait to go for a ride whit these new tires. Man what a difference ,smooth ride even whit a 39 lb in front and 41 lb rear , will never go back to those Brickstones , they don't last so long and are as hard as rock . Got these Elite 3 from your side of the border ,had them installed at a performance shop around here . Now let's hope they will last longer than the OEM ones .
  13. I am finally about to reinstall my engine. Please don't ask what I was doing. I am embarassed enough and here's another embarrassing thing. But my question is that the motor mounts have a "D" shape at the ends. My '86-'87 OEM manual does not specify the exact way these should face. The OEM factory manual has pictures of the engine in various stages of disassembly. But I am not sure if I shoud go by these pictures? And looking at the long term wear on them. I can figure out the rear mounts. But the front...I am not so sure:confused24:. So I either need pics from someone or maybe someone can describe which direction the flat side of the "D" should be facing on one side. Then I can do the same on the other. One more thing....I am putting the engine in SUNDAY 4/6. email me if you can or reply here. I will check before I start @2pm EDT. ..email jsmthefix@optimum.net
  14. Just wondering what sights can be trusted for oem parts purchases other than dealer sites. I have a KZ 550 i'm trying to bring back to life.
  15. Guys, A while back I installed a Stebel Nautilus on a friend's 99 using Carbon One's bracket. After I installed and heard it, I got to thinking this horn would work great under a saddle bag or inside the fairing. But when I looked over the instructions again, I beleive I read that this horn must be mounted vertical or 15 degrees from vertical. Is this in fact one of the restrictions on mounting this horn? Because a friend of mine just recently bought a used 2000 and I noticed that the OEM horn was not connected. When I asked him about it, he said he wasn't sure what it was but it was loud and mounted in the fairing. Well I'm helping him replace the fork springs and when I took the front clowling off I found a Wolo Bad Boy tie wraped to the frame next to the radio (see attached). What I'm asking, for those of you who are familiar with mounting this horn, should I relocated it to the right side in place of the OEM horn or just leave it where it is. Thanks, Rick
  16. I didn't know where else to put this. If anyone's interested, I have an OEM windshield that I no longer need, since I just replaced it with a Clearview. Don, let me know if this should go somewhere else. Thanks.
  17. TODAY WAS MY FIRST RIDE ON THE NEW AVONS I WENT TO THE SMALLER FRONT AND ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! YOU GUYS WERE NOT KIDDING THE CHANGE IS AMAZING. SO FOR ANYONE STILL ON OEM TIRES THIS IS THE BEST CHANGE I HAVE MADE YET. THANKS FOR THE INPUT ON MY TIRE PURCHASE. THIS PLACE IS THE GREATEST!
  18. Today, I have made an inquiry to J&M, about their JMCB2003 for connecting into the 1st gen VR Mk1 amp. I am awaiting their reply back, will update as I have more info to pass on. But here is what I had sent them "A few of us 1st Gen Venture Royale (1200cc early model 83-85) owners from http://WWW.VENTURERIDER.ORG, have been looking at adding CB onto our bikes. It is difficult to find all the components needed, for the optional OEM CB. Is it possible to patch your JMCB2003, into the din jack of the OEM amp (right angle plug required), that is provided for an optional CB. The bike is equipped with AM/FM radio, cassette deck & intercom when your YV-41 interface cables are installed, this all passes through the OEM amp. If I remember correctly it is a 6 pin din jack for the CB in the amp, if needed I will go to where the bike is stored for the winter & check. I am not sure which model would be best for this adaption, probably the dual or the Honda GL1500, as some will let the wife talk on the CB. "
  19. How are the windshields measured ? From where to where ? How long is the OEM windshield ?
  20. Who has a source and part number for a good replacement CB ant for the 99?Anything other then OEM out there?
  21. Can anyone tell me where I might find an OEM seat with driver backrest for a 2001 RSV? My 6+ year old Corbin is starting to wear out and I was thinking of trying the OEM style. Even used would be okay if it was in good shape. Thanks
  22. Just received the Kuryakyn Shift Peg covers and am having a bear of a time trying to remove the OEM rubber covers from the shifter. On my other bikes I was able to muscle it off over the end of the shift peg without cutting (or otherwise damaging) the OEM rubber. Anybody have the Kury shift peg covers installed? How did you get the OEM rubber off? Did you have to cut them off? I don't want to reinvent the wheel here; I'm sure somebody out there knows the trick and will share it here. Thanks!
  23. Where can I get wiring diagrams for hooking up OEM passing lights to my 07 RSV?
  24. Where do i get them and are they better than new stock oem springs?
  25. not v r specific, but motorcycles in general. does the oem fuel filter "calibrate" or restrict" the amount of fuel that is delivered to the carbs? if you replace the oem filter, with a larger bore "inline" filter, would that in turn reduce your gas mileage and power? this is about a kz1000. two like bikes, one has twice the power of the other, and twice the fuel effeciency. just wondering if the fuel filter might be the reason. just jt
