1. :fireman:I am looking to replace the travel trunk and possible the saddle bags on my '02 midnight venture. The bottom of the trunk is cracked around the bolt holes,I can't afford to buy the new oem trunk, does anyone know anything about A-1 motorcycled hard bags? they look pretty nice and are alot more affordable.
2. I have a couple of fancy chromed plastic first gen OEM horn covers that I don't need anymore since I went to air horns on both bikes. I am offering them 'free to good home' to the general membership? The OEM horns that came in them were junk and are long gone but these were too nice to pitch out. Thought I'd try to find them a new venture to call home. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/ad39/UxHamby/vehicles/bike3/61d0e64f.jpg Any takers before these hit the land fill ? Cheers, Brian H.
3. Hey Check this place out for OEM Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki discount parts. I just compared prices with my local Yamaripoff store and I saved over 50%. I was using Yamaha Sports Plaza out of Oregon but they were out of a part I needed so I went looking. I ordered 5 OEM Yamaha parts and this place beat Sports Plaza on every item. Also Yamaha Sports Plaza shipping was $14.95 and this place was $10 another saving. http://www.motosportwarehouse.com/?gclid=CL3rm-OF5KACFUmU7Qod3h3HJw :thumbsup2:
4. Just received some Replacement OEM Parts from http://partshark.com/. (877.999.5686) Very satisfied with the order. Their website was easy to navigate, the pricing decent, and I was able to see the pictograms of the parts as I ordered. Upon ordering I received a confirmation email, followed shortly thereafter with an email explaining the status of my order and a promised email upon the parts being shipped. I did receive that email, with tracking #, the day they shipped. Parts arrived 7 days after ordered. The parts were correct, the process painless and as promised, hence the plug for these guys!!!! By the way, what does OEM stand for?
5. I am going to replace my Cobra slash cut drag pipe mufflers (soon to be for sale) with the original OEM mufflers on my 97 Royal Star Classic. When I look at the parts diagram (see attached) for the exhaust, it looks as if I need to replace as many as 10 gaskets just by changing mufflers (parts 2; 6(2); 10; 14(2); 18(2) and 22(2)) at a cost of approx $160 delivered which is almost as much as I paid for the OEM mufflers! Does anyone know exactly which gaskets truly need to be replaced when changing back to all 4 OEM mufflers? I'd obviously like to have them on-hand when I do the swap. Thanks!
6. Forgive me fellow V4 riders for I have sinned. Yesterday I took a 2010 Victory Vision for a test ride and by the end of the day I was making arrangements to turn over my 06 RSTD Midnight to the dealer. I have read several reviews and watched several You Tube videos about this bike and every one of them says that Victory got it right with the Vision, so I had to find a reason to hate this new spaceship on two wheels. Unfortunately my mission did not succeed and I am now on the factory delivery list. Perhaps it was those heated hand grips and dual control heated seats. After all it was only thirty-five degrees at the time of the test. Perhaps it was cruising along at 70 in 6th gear with my face shield up on my helmut behind the electrically adjustable windscreen and being hard pressed to know that the motor was really running. Or maybe it was those more common new bells and whistles like ABS brakes and electronically controlled fuel injection that Yamaha just doesn't want to give us V4 riders. At the end of the test ride I reluctantly decided to turn over the bike that I loved and invested heavily in over this past year for this unorthodox looking spaceship on two wheels. If any of you are looking for a very nice and very well pampered 06 RSTD Midnight with less that 5000 miles (8250 Kilometers) on the OD, my baby should be on the showroom floor at Peak Powersports in Burlington Ontario in about a weeks time. It comes with a custom tour pack c/w top rack, Mustang seats, Kuryakyn grips and highway pegs, passing lamps, HD Road King muffs, a Baron handlebar tach LED tail lights, licence plate light and rear turn signals, Strebel horn, and various other OEM and aftermarket accessories totalling close to $5K. The dealer gave me $10K on the trade-in value which also saved me $1,500 in taxes on the Victory. I am also going to have a number of accessories that I will be posting for sale that won't be turned over with the bike such as the lifting cradle, shop service manual, OEM seats and mufflers, a still in the package OEM front fender trim rail, and possibly the OEM detachable backrest c/w luggage rack (need to confirm this one with the dealer). I will post the items in the classifieds once the bike is turned over, but feel free to PM me in the mean time. http://i46.tinypic.com/2vj2bdi.jpg
7. Called today to order my Russell Day Long seat for the RSV and was told the build date is April 23rd!!!! And it will take 2 to 3 weeks to get it built!!!! The RDL seat is built on the OEM seat pan so my bike would be without the seat until it gets back. This creates a big problem. I have a trip scheduled for May 1st and it won't be done by then. I should have ordered this seat a month ago, but...... Anyhooo, I was wondering if anyone had a stock seat they are not using that I could borrow, trade, or buy. If you would like to trade, I will send in your seat for the RDL conversion and then send you my Butt Butler modified, OEM (non-PillowTop), studded seat once the RDL is done. For the borrow, I will send in my seat and use yours for the May ride. Once the RDL shows up, I will send your seat back to you. Would have it back to you by mid-May. Of course, I will cover shipping (or come get it from you if you happen to be in WI). Thanks, RR
8. Well I installed my 6235 ISO grips. Biggest difficulties were getting the bullet end cap weights off without scratching them & modifying the grip ends to enable use of the OEM end caps. For getting the end-caps off - wrapped the outside of the caps with 6 layers of duct tape then used a strap wrench to break them loose to unscrew found grunting & vulgarity quite helpful For opening the ISO grip end to fit the OEM end-cap - I started grinding out the hole with a Dremel tool... that was taking forever! went to Harbor Freight & bought $15 Step-Drill then drilled out the holes to 1 inch easily cut a brass pipe for the spacer on the throttle side Only remaining problem is that the throttle is a little sticky. I'll take it apart & fix that another day. The grips are great & look really nice with the OEM end-caps on. johnb
9. I recently purchased a 97 RSTD. One of the first projects I want to tackle is replacing the mufflers that are installed and probably go back to the OEM mufflers. It appears that some aftermarket slip-on mufflers were installed and I am now trying to determine what brand of mufflers are installed on the bike; mainly to be able to sell them, or trade them for excellent condition OEM mufflers. Although the sound is very deep and powerful (and impresses most of my friends), it's a bit too loud for me, especially after Chemo affected my hearing, and I really don't want to tic off all the neighbors when I leave for work at 6 AM on the morning... So any ideas what brand/model these might be? Thanks in advance for any help!
10. The CB antenna is broken off at the load coil on my '03 RSMV. I rarely use the CB, and when I do it is basically communicating with the group I am riding with, so great performance is not necessary. Does anyone have one of the OEM CB antennas that they would like to get rid of? Thanks! Don
11. I recently bought an '05 RSTD and had the dealer install OEM passing lamps. I'd like to add visors to them and have read here that some have opted for HD visors over OEM. From what I've seen, the HD's look like the visor is just part of the front ring, which I like better than the "add-on" look. My questions is what HD part number fits our OEM housing? Thanks.
12. I'm totally frustrated with the highlight bar on this bike.. I'm not sure what the issue is but I can never get it fully tight on, and half the time it is as if you missed the treads altogether, but it will hold the bar up for a while but loosen right off.. if the bolts don't go in at JUST the right angle, you can turn and turn all you want, it won't tighten up more.. And once you do get it right, there's really no simple method to get a tool in there to tighten it up enough not to cause it to flop in the wind or come loose again.. So my first winter project is to rip the dang thing off and go for an alternate route. I want to have 'something' up front for better illumination and better 'notice me' detection from cagers.. I don't have the original signal light bar since I'm not the original owner of the bike but I still have my V-Star signal light bar and though I haven't tried it yet, I think it could be used since both bikes do have similar parts.. can anyone confirm this? If such is the case, then I would need to find an alternative highway light setup, big enough blob of light to be noticed, light enough not to be bouncing thus causing vibrations and so on.. What are my alternatives? What do you have that's not OEM etc? Thanks M8
13. My Yamaha dealer put an aftermarket rear disk on my bike last year, and it has been squealing ever since. It has slots in it but they are 90 degrees to the axle rather than slanted, and I am sure that is the problem, because the same new pads are doing fine on the front with the OEM disks. The OEM disks are $500+ IF you can order them and you can't right now from what I have seen. I have found just one aftermarket source and they are $225 or so. anyone found anything else that works? Used ones are hard to find and probably worn out. http://www.perfectbrakes.com/products.asp?cat=8079
14. My 2007 RSV doesn't have a tool kit. Looking at this as a replacement http://www.jcwhitney.com/CRUZTOOLS-ROADTECH-TOOL-KITS/GP_2015279_N_111+20000110+600014236_10111.jcw How does this compare with the OEM kit?
15. So I have seen a seat that Yamaha sold that I was told was a corbin seat but it said it sits you 3" taller I know ever corbin seat I have had was lower than the stock oem seats. Anyone out there that know anything abot this seat or the corbin seat for the RSV please post there opinion please.
16. The horns on our bike are pathetic. I've put off replacing them, but the other day I really wanted to give someone a blast, so now is the time to replace the OEM horns. I've done a seach and read several good threads about how to wire Stebel air and electromagnetic horns. I'd like to go electro because I think they may be easier to install than the nautilus. Please tell me if I'm wrong on that. I'm seriously considering putting these on our 84 VR: http://www.bikerhiway.com/stebel-magnum-motorcycle-horns-dual-tone-chrome-p-280.html http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/Tony1M/chromehorns.jpg Any first gen folks have these on their bike? If so, what do you think of them? Will they fit on the same brackets where the OEM horns are? (That is, can you just remove the OEM horns and install the new ones on the very same OEM brackets?) If you have these on your bike, please post some photos of your installation. Thanks for any information. Tony
17. I got tired of trying to find OEM louvers for my bike, so I "engineered" these.
18. My R/R is out and i'm explorind other than OEM equipment options since the OEM isnt readily available around here. And it would be a new experience. Right now i am running one from an XV535 that is working but for how long i can't guess. it gets supper hot. Probably overloaded ... Anyone know what the voltage from the stator is, i have been looking at a shindengen unit that has a voltage max of 40 volts.
19. If anyone has a take-off shock from the RSV that they would consider donating, please let me know. It will be analyzed and probably taken apart and I wouldn't expect it to be returned, but we may end up with a good alternative to the Works shock to replace the Yamaha OEM shock on the 2nd gens. It would be good to have another option, right? Anyway, I have a contact who has a suspension shop and he has done some great work building shocks for other bikes (Ducati, KLR650, DR650, SV650, and Honda TransAlp). He is located in North Carolina and is well respected in the road racing and dual sport community. This is a small family business and he rides and races bikes himself. I have one of his "moab" custom shocks on my KLR650 and I love it. Everyone who has one has nothing but praise for the work that he has done giving the 400+ pound pig some manners in the dirt. He can't promise anything, but when I talked to him about my failing shock and the replacement options (oem and Works afaik) we discussed the possability of him coming up with a replacement. He would need to examine an oem shock to determine what he can do and what he would recommend. I believe that if he was able to build a replacement, it would be a good one! There is also a chance he could come up with a modification or re-manufacturing process for the oem shocks. It all depends on him getting a look at the oem shock. Thanks! James
20. Gonna take a camping trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive. Turns out the tent/chair/sleeping bag W/air mattress is taller than the mirrors can see over. has anyone seen a taller mirror (2" ought to do it). Or maybe tried stacking two of the OEM extensions on top of each other??? Was thinking of stacking the extensions, but don't know that the treads are the same.
21. This week I tried to install new turn down pipes I busted one of the exhaust clamps and can't find them locally anywhere. I got these with the screamin eagle slippons I had been riding with since last year.. got the new down turns and busted one of the clamps.. SO back to the OEM slippons until I find a new clamp.. Riding yesterday with the OEMs on I was surprised at a few observations.. some good and some bad.. I was hoping someone could let me know what's the what here.. I'll have to say that the pipe clamp on the OEM slippons can't be tightened much because of the nuts on the bold isn't 'tack welded' on anymore, allowing the nut to free turn when attempting to tighten the clamp onto the pipe.. and this MAY perhaps be what is causing my issues.. but not sure.. My 06 RSV with the roadking slippons feels like it has more oomph over stock.. I have the K&N air filters installed. My friend's 08 RSV is stock and doesn't feel as gutsy as mine does everytime I ride his.. My RSV with RK slippons and K&N filters doesn't get the great milage his bike enjoys.. but it's got a better sound and better giddyap and go factor. When I put the OEMs on, I found myself riding in 4th at 65 - 70 mph more readily, actually catching myself not realizing I'm actually in third wondering why my mirrors seem 'buzzy' until I try to shift into 5th but discovering I'm now in 4th.. I'm guessing is that I'm going by engine / exhaust noise and actually getting the revs way up there now.. But the pinch of the matter is that I am a bit concerned by the lack of power the bike is making when dropping the hammer, say like when you're on the on-ramp to a highway, merging into traffic.. you accelerate and the power curve seems to be hanging there.... and then it catches. I thought I might have been slipping the clutch until it worked itself out and caught.. strange sensation.. engine sounded normal.. but the sensation of acceleration felt quite hesitant.. I couldn't tell if I was actually accellerating or not as I was watching for traffic as I was merging on but the couple / three times this happened, it felt a lot like hang time waiting for the bike to 'catch' and accellerate.. I never had that with the roadking slippons installed.. when I dropped the hammer on the bike, I could bring it up to the rev limiter and you could feel it all accelerate evenly and smoothly. I want to see if my mileage comes up with the OEMs back on the bike, I'll be able to know after a couple of tanks of gas.. I don't know if this is how the RSV is normally behaving when running with OEM slippons or if the lack of tightened clamps is causing enough exhaust leaking to detrimentally affect the engine performance? Everything was super duper awesome on the bike before switching back to OEM.. Strangely enough, the sound of the OEM over the Roadking is from the rider position close enough when it's cool out (engine decelleration) but buddy riding behind me says it's a lot quieter than the roadking pipes.. Thoughts or ideas? if the power issue is resolved and enough of a fuel mileage increase is experienced, I may well just leave these on for the big trips but toss on the louder pipes for the fun local rides And does anyone know where to go that those darn chrome clamps used when installing Roadking slippons to a RSV??!! Cheers
22. Does anyone have a good suggestion on where I can get a bracket to hold my antenna on my '83? I've added a the OEM radio to the standard bike. I have the OEM antenna, but no bracket. I don't really have any way to fabricate one, and from what I've been able to see at Flatout Motor Sport, they don't sell the OEM anymore. So any help would be great! Thanks~
23. I have a 99 RSTD with 42,000 miles. I need to have the carbs gone through. Can anyone give me an idea of a "normal" cost? I live in west central Illinois and would like to have an idea of the cost prior to finding a shop to do this. Also, someone once said when I have the carbs gone through, I should have other then OEM jets used as it would increase the bikes performance. Truth or fiction? I appreciate any help/information.
24. First of all just a reminder that you might want to check your air filters for the new riding season. I myself seem to always over look them when changing out plugs or doing other maintenance to my bike. I am now wondering if this is part of a lower gas mileage I also noticed on inspection of these OEM filters that the top tap (spacer) was missing on my original filters. was that added later?... I also wonder if there is a better price for OEM filters at any other place? $29.04 for each filter. not sure if I want to bother with K&N yet.. Filters looked pretty good at 3,500 miles on them and now with 11,350 on it , this is what they looked like. Just thought I would share this... Jeff
25. Been surfen the post about tires. looks like Avon is the choice:think: After looking at the tread design on my new RSTD I am not a happy camper:mad: I had Dunlop's OEM on my VTX 1800R which ran good in rain, steel grates & high speed but @ 7K they were wearing:mad: My question is: Does Avon make the sizes that are OEM on the 2008 RSTD? Did not see any on there site:shock3: So what I need are a 150/80-169(71H) Radial front & a 150/90-15(74H) Radial rear:think: Or a brand with the Venom R type tread design:happy65: Ron:325:
