  1. I changed my tires, and when putting the rear one back on, I forgot where one of the washers goes. On the right side, there is a washer that goes on one side of the brake mounting bracket or the other. Can someone tell me which side? This is a washer that goes on the rear axle, and it will either be up against the wheel on the right side, or between the swingarm and the brake mounting bracket. I put it up against the wheel, but is seems like there may be too much drag from the brake when I spin the wheel. Thanks for any help.
  2. After seeing several variations on mounting some accessories on a 1st gen, I thought I would share what I have done. In mounting the GPS, I wanted it to be easily visible, stable and not in the way of other things. By mounting a piece of Plexiglas on the left side handlebar riser, it is off center enough to not be in the way of reaching for the ignition switch and it is stable. It is also easy to take off when parked. Years ago, the vent on the left side broke and I installed a radar detector in the hole. It works very good shooting through fairing and is out of the way and not noticeable. This helps when I make a corner and drive into a Virginia State Police roadblock as detectors are illegal there. I also have a switch on the panel near the radio where I can quickly turn it off. I have also mounted an inside/outside thermometer above the detector and have the temp pickup mounted under the mirror. This gets it out in the wind and also shades it from the sun. I put a sun shield over the thermometer and that helps. With this bike being a standard, I made an aluminum cover that mounts the radio at a 30 degree angle to help keep the CD player from skipping when I hit a bump and it also makes it very easy to change CD's while riding. I also put a row of switches in the panel cover for added lights and the detector. This may be a bit different from some of the others I have seen, but it works for me. RandyA

    Help

My right side lower cowling to the right of the rad. and blocks the wind from your leg. And covers the air breather. It is broke from the mounting bracket. Anyone know of a good glue or epoxy I can use to try and fix it?
  4. Help Please I Need A Question Answered!!!! I bought a complete triple tree from Squid to use on my 89 1300 Venture Royal after I send it off to Steerite and have it modified. In another post about the difference between 83 to 93 - 1200 vs 1300 triple trees it talks about the 2 splined handle bar mounting posts bolting on the 1300. Does that mean if I have the one with the bolt on mounting posts it is a 1300 triple tree? Thanks, Vic
  5. I was chatting with the venture owner Janne jurvelin and he had a pic of his Mk2 scoot with 2 projector bulbs where the original square oem headlight would go, i asked him about it and he directed me to this site that offers the projector light pods and universal mounting plates for what I thought was a pretty reasonable price. the result looks quite similar to Snaggletooth's hella light conversion, but I think it would end up a bit cheaper, and they supply the mounting plate, probably eliminating some fabrication work. high beam- http://www.louis.de/_20100191f9ec6203dfd4ca1147ce400239/index.php?topic=search&searchterm=10033667&cmd.x=9&cmd.y=4 low beam- http://www.louis.de/_20100191f9ec6203dfd4ca1147ce400239/index.php?topic=search&searchterm=10033666&cmd.x=3&cmd.y=7 universal mounting plate- http://www.louis.de/_20100191f9ec6203dfd4ca1147ce400239/index.php?topic=search&searchterm=10020904&cmd.x=7&cmd.y=10 I have never dealt with this company and havnt done this install I am just posting this info as most of us G1 owners are always looking for better ways to see the road. so please dont ask me how to do it as I havnt done it myself. brian [Janne Jurvelin info- Parts from www.louis.de Part no.10033667, 10033666 and 10020904. 6. After a couple of close calls recently, I decided to get a better horn. Bopped over to Harbor Freight and snagged a Wolo "Bad Boy" (Strebel clone). I've got the electrical part down (played with Trons in the Navy...), but I'm not sure about the mounting. I'm pretty sure I can pull off one of the stock horns and mount the Bad Boy in its place, but I'm concerned about heat from the engine, so I'm considering mounting the horn inside the fairing. Thoughts? Thanks, and Y'All ride safe...
  7. Anyone have set of he mounting instrucitons they could scan and send me?? I know generally how they go, but would like to see the hardware set up. Thank You!! RSTDdog
  8. I need to order the small plates and screws that hold the power plugs in place for the AM-FM radio for my 89 VR. They are screwed into the bottom of the tray where the radio goes on the left side. I tried looking in the parts drawing on Bike Bandit but couldn't find them. Can someone provide me with the part numbers for the two mounting plates and the screws? And are the parts still available from a Yama dealer? The photo is from an '83 but I need the part numbers for a '89 Venture Royale. Thanks for any help. Jim
  9. Does anyone have a rear shock off of a 2nd Gen. they would like to send me? I do some work for Gabriel North America Ride Control. They make many shocks for cars, trucks, quads, snowmobiles, you name it. I deal with the head Engineer. I would like to take a shock into him for some research on our problem we have. My shock is still good or I would take it. They have so many different designs that I am thinking they may have one close to the kind we need and maybe able to change the mounting hardware so that we could use it. I would let him know of all the problems that we have with the original and see what he comes up with. I am sure this shock would be cut away for them to see the internal workings. It would be of no use to anyone anymore. Just a thought. Any takers?
  10. I obtained a rear brake master from a 99 VMax. Actually got it just for the reservoir. I wanted to see if I could make it work in place of the stock one, minus the level indicator. Got it and a spare starter relay for $31 shipped. So not a bad deal. This thing is in excellent shape, so it got me pondering mounting it on the scooter. Couple of issues, both solvable. The center to center distance of the mounting holes is different, stock looks to be about 52mm & VMax looks to be about 40mm. This seems like it could be fixed with an adapter plate. There is also a c/l offset difference 7 or 8mm. This offset would be beatifically as it would give room to insert the adapter plate. Now question is, should I or shouldn't I . The brakes on the rear could stand a little more grabbing power to them. I have locked the rear wheel by really stomping on them. A little more would be nice, but I don't need an extremely touchy system that will be lock up prone. The bike currently has a 88 master in it which has a bore of 17.46mm. The VMax has a 12.7mm bore, same as RSV. The decrease in bore size would give me more force on the rear pads. It would also decrease the volume of fluid pumped. The brakes have been delinked & it has a quad piston rear caliper. The setup with the VMax master would be equivalent to an RSV setup. Or, would I be better going to a 83-85 rear master, which has a bore dia. of 15.87mm. Or just leaving it be, and hope I am able to ride it this summer. Gary
  11. My 99 Royal Star Boulevard's rear fender seems to be shifted to the driver's right a bit. There is still a little clearance between the tire and the under fender supports, but I am trying to figure how to get it straightened out. I have owned the bike since new, and it has not been down, so I seems to be a mounting issue. I took the fender off tonight (four mounting bolts) and looked to see how I could shim it to shift it a bit. At this point, I am thinking about a spacer (washer) on the upper left bolt. Not sure how much I can shim at the bottom mount points. Anybody have experience with this?
  12. Hey...I'd like to hardwire an XM radio to my new-to-me RSV. (I already have an XM subscription for a factory-installed satellite radio in my car, so I'd be adding a unit to the sub). I also want to hardwire a Garmin GPS. By the way, splicing/slicing into any wiring scares the bejeebies outa me, but that is a whole 'nother issue and probably unavoidable if I don't want it to look like crap. I do want to be able to listen to the GPS/XMs over the headsets and through the speakers. Anywho, setting aside my current (lack of) disposible income, I personally can't see paying a huge premium for an integrated GPS/XM unit at this time, especially since the Sirius/XM company itself doesn't know what it's doing to integrate the companies, birds and radio subscriptions. Sooooo, I think I ought get a cheapie XM radio off ebay or something. Which brings me to one of my many questions.... What sort of XM radio do folks recommend? Looking around the board, the Roady seems pretty popular, but that was some time ago - maybe there's a better option now. Also, what's the difference between the Roady2 and the RoadyXT? Are there differences in reception, durability, ease of use, sound quality (the DAC), mounting options... As far as mounting options go, I sort of like the looks of the mounting brackets that go on the brake and clutch reservoirs (one for XM the other for the GPS?). Do they work okay on the sloping bars of RSVs? For anyone whose tried those, any comments/advice? Other mounting suggestions? In the future I probably will be upgrading both the GPS and the satellite radio, maybe even to an integrated unit depending on prices, etc. So, between the mounting and wiring options, I'd probably want something that, if not completely reversable, won't completely screw anything up later and is universal enough to be used with other units later. In doing that, are there any pitfalls that I should avoid? Sorry if I ask a lot of a questions. But like I said, electrical stuff (and wasting cash) scare the $%^& outa me. Thanks!
  13. I'm looking for a camera to capture my rides. What do you recommend and why? Also would you recommend mounting to the bike, or the helmet or the riders chest?
  14. Need a hand...Front speakers are shot...reading all the old comments I can find it seems the ideal replacement speakers are POLK 107DB400's...Now out of production and replaced with DB401's...Looking at the 401 speaker there are only 2 "Ears" for mounting..will this hold up? Also read a comment on MTX speakers...any help on the model/part number of these speakers? I'm sort of hard of hearing to begin with and have to turn up the volume on the Interstates...Any help? Appreciate..
  15. Got motor back into frame this weekend. Encountered another small issue mounting up the VBoost intakes though. I had the block face milled down .040", this is to raise compression. The block needed to be milled due to there not being enough material on the heads to do this. When the block is milled (or the heads for that matter), it lowers the heads by the amount taken off. Also moves heads inward at the 35 deg angle from vertical. The VBoost intake is a rather rigid unit that did not react well to its mounting holes getting moved. I could not get the screws started. I had to ream the mounting holes in the intakes out 3/64" to allow the screws to engage. Fortunately with the VBoost's rigid intake, the carb rack should mount up fairly good. This same head head movement will also create some additional fitment issue with the exhaust system, but it will be easier (I hope) to deal with. Next is onward to getting carbs mounted on intakes. Rick Butler gave me a heads up that the carb pull cable bracket will need modified to clear the frame, due to the taller intakes, but I know that is coming. Already had to modify the "twinkie" to get the cooling hose on it oriented different. May be going to put a Lithium battery in it to allow the bigger VMax air box to fit up. These new batteries are on back order so I may need to work around the air box issue. And, yes I am replacing that old red fuel line this year !! Gary
  16. I know, sounds silly. But when we say we use a 4" speaker in the first gen., is that measured diagonally from mounting hole to mounting hole? Or is that actually the diameter of the speaker? Measured diagonally, center to center, the mounting holes are 4.5" apart on the first gen. Thanks, Bill
  17. I know there's a number of posts on this but I did mine slightly differently so thought a fresh thread was in order. Firstly tho, thanks to all the others who have posted info about this topic. From it, I was able to complete the wiring very easily and your posts gave me ideas about mounting my horn in a different location, plus retain the stock horn. As you'll see from the pics, I mounted my horn just aft of the passenger footrest. I made a small bracket to fit on the rear footrest mounting point. I put a bend into it to hook underneath the footrest bracket soas to counter the weight of the horn as there's only one bolt holding the bracket. Pics are in order of completed project --> creating the bracket. OH man that sukkah is loud! Question.... there's a small plastic air intake attachment on the bottom of the horn. Looks like a person should connect a tube up to it and route it somewhere. Any suggestions on what the rest of you have done with this??
  18. the time is running out . i have to get this thing done by april 15th, first meet in greenwood, ar.. chrome is going to the shop in the morning, and the paint job is almost done. forks and front end are ready for mounting. now it's all the little stuff that has to be done. built my fuel tank yesterday and tacked it together ready to be tig welded as soon as i make the filler neck and mounts. my last big project is mounting the 32 mm mikuni flatslide. very limited space for the carb and aircleaner so i'm still up in the air on my manifold design and how i'm going to design the shape. this may be my biggest problem so far. i may bring it to b2 dads meet & eat in july so folks can see it.
  19. i have a 97 royal star tour classic . it has a very short windsheild on it and was wanting to go to a taller one but cant find a mounting kit that will bolt to the motorcycle. wondering if the 05 royal star tour deluxe front forks and mounting kits are the same?
  20. Well with a little help from Carbon one making the adapter plate we were able to get the trunk at least mounted to see what it looks like. I think it will look pretty good after trunk is painted to match. and the backrest and armrest are redone in black also a good cleanup of the chrome and mounting bracket. What do you all think?? The detachable backrest is straped to the back. Joe star4772 If anyone needs anything done I highly recommand Larry Carbon one He is just amazing. Attached Thumbnails
  21. So I have the one TomTom RAM Mounts dosent make a base for....go figure! SWMBO says there is no new GPS in my future. Any mounting suggestions? Anyone want to trade for something I can mount to my RSV w/o difficulty? Thanks!
  22. Does anyone have a spare in good shape (maroon with both mounting posts intact)? Ken
  23. For those with auxilliary driving/fog lamps......where and how do you have them mounted? I've read several articles on wiring them and I'm ok in that department. What I'm mulling over is where did you mount them? Do you have them mounted to the fairing?, clamped to the engine guards? Did you have to drill holes in the fairing or is there a specific mounting bracket? Any advise is welcome......and as I've so often read here "pics would be better."
  24. Not too late to plan tire changes at Don's Maintenance day - this is relatively easy. Just need to either bring the tire with you or order one and have it delivered to Don's address. Don has the tire changer, and I will have the tire lube and weights to help anyone interested in mounting a MC tire. Unfortunately, I am not available for any work at all concerning a car tire mounted on a bike rim. Goose
  25. I'm trying to install a trunk on my 07 RSTD and was hoping someone had some mounting hardware laying about. If not, any ideas on how I can mount it? I BOUGHT THE TRUNK OF EBAY AND IT'S A UNIVERSAL MOUNT TRUNK. THANKS
