  1. I'm thinking of getting a GPS and was wanting to see one mounted on your Venture. Also any advise on where to get mounting brackets etc would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking about going with a Garmin 450 or 550 maybe. Thanks.
  2. Does anyone have a set of the Diamond R airwings, that mounts directly behind the lower fairing, 2nd Gen? DiamondR doesn't sell them anymore. I'd like to make a set if anyone can describe how they're mounted and what they're mounted to. Also, curious to how affective they are in reducing buffeting. Thanks
  3. No, I didnt buy a 2nd gen, cant afford one, I didnt sell my 1st Gen, never ever, still have the VStar, but I went an ordered a Batwing fairing for my V Star. Looking forward to getting it mounted, they do look pretty good on it, I attached a couple of pics of a couple of Vstars with them installed, I am getting the 7 inch black faded windshield and black lower deflectors.
  4. I decided to jump on the bandwagon and add a temperature gauge to my bike. I already had a volt meter and didn't care that much for an oil pressure gauge so I just mounted a water temp gauge. Instead of mounting it in the cassette space I decided to mount it to the handlebars with a ram mount. I ordered the parts from egauges.com and went with an Autometer Marine gauge because it was more water resistant. Marine Water Temp http://www.egauges.com/vdo_ind.asp?T...=ATM-200762-35 I also bought the adapter for the sending unt but that didn't work due to a ridge around the hole in the head. The adapter is fairly thin and when screwed into the head the hex is recessed into the ridge which prevented me from being able to get a socket on the hex of the adapter to tighten it into the head. So I used Goose's idea of using a non-fouler and brass 1/2" fitting. Adapter http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=R7965 For a housing I used a chrome VDO mounting cup which I modified. I didn't care for the way the housing mounted so I drilled a 5/16 hole into side along with a 3-48 set screw hole. I then mounted the cup to a ram mount plate which had a 1/4-20 threaded hole in the center (http://www.ram-mount.com/ramwebcompthumb/ramb202a.jpg). The gauge fit loosely into the mount so I wrapped a few layer of plastic tape around the gauge until it was a nice press fit into the mounting cup. I am hoping that also acts as a gasket to keep water out. If not it should drain out the back at the wire hole. While it seemed secure at this point I decided to add a 3-48 set screw to make sure it stayed in place. Housing http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=240-017 It was a fairly easy install even though I ended up with a coolant leak at the sender which I will address tomorrow. I would like to thank V7Goose and Jlh3rd for their posts and advice on their gauge installations. I probably wouldn't have tackled this without them. Here are a few photos. Dennis
  5. Just saw an ad for the handlebar mounted unit. The SO rides a wee strom and would occasionally like to tell me when I missed a turn. Has anyone got any experience with these units. Are they any good? I know they're pricey, but if it's any good, it looks like it would fit the bill. (Able to tell me what to do and listen to her tunes)
  6. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/26126fe3cda113d0524a9e242ce8c9ff700b19f2.jpg MAn wouldn't you like one of these.I've always thought it would be fun to have a machine gun mounted on front of a car, but on a bike . Hold on there old girl its gonna get fun. David
  7. Greetings: Anyone got any daylight pictures of their bike with the Diamond R 15" Slimline LED Lightbar mounted on it. Diamond R only has pics at night. Thanks
  8. I have a Garmin Nuvi with the windshield mount in my truck. Has anyone ever mounted this to the windshield of the RSV. It won't hurt the shield will it?
  9. Has anyone here mounted auxilliary driving lights anywhere else but the "normal" location (the standard Yammie light bar setup). If you have, can I / we see some pics and maybe some narrative on how you mounted them? (looking for ideas) Thanks.
  10. Even though I no longer have my beloved Venture, I thought maybe someone on this site might have some info for me. It seems to be very hard to find information on actual mounting devices and methods. I know there are kits etc but there does not seem to be any specifics out there in cyber space. I am looking for information especially pictures of how these sidecars (Velorex in my case) are mounted in the hope that I will find one that applies to my 800 Kawi Vulcan. Any help, leads etc would be appreciated. Maybe someone from the dark side can help with tire application etc.. Thank You for any help from North Bay ON.
  11. OK I bypassed the sensor with the 2.2 ohm resistor. Instead of hooking to the acc. wire, I hooked a conector to the wire and mounted it under the screw that went to the fuse that I was supposed to solder to. Is this OK? Kevin
  12. I, as some of the others here, have bought and mounted the Wal-Mart Optronics driving lights on their bike. And like everyone else mounted them in the front fender bolt area. However with the air deflectors hitting on the back of the lights I added some extenders in stainless. While it worked to a degree I still hit occasionally when hard braking so today I moved em once again. This time I bought a set of the Kuryakyn "P" clamps in 1" size #4018. Mounted them just below the footrests on the front crash bars. Really lights up the road surface now. Only real drawback here was cost of the "P" clamps. At $20 each they sure aren't cheap but look great and fit perfect for the job at hand. I must make one other note here in that one reason why my air deflectors were hitting is due to me having the light bar extension which of course moves them right near the Optronics lights. If it wasn't for that then the fork light location works very well indeed. Larry
  13. Looking for picture of diffrent trailer hitches for the RSV. I would like to see Diamond R's mounted on a bike. Any body out there have a picture?
  14. Has anyone mounted a steering damper to their 1st Generation Venture? If you have, could you post a photo or email me one. I'm getting a pretty good wobble and all the experts recommend a damper to correct this problem when a sidecar is mounted. I have a damper that I bought on Ebay but am looking for ideas on where to attach it to the front end of the bike. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. I have a '97 RSTD. Is there a hard trunk assy. like the Ventures have that can be mounted on the bike without a lot of modifications?
  16. R LOUD Mounted 2 of them. 1 Chrome on the outside and had one under the bike mounted to where the AIS was. Now its loud enough to scare me and I'm expecting it cause I am the one that pushadabutton. Using 1 30 amp relay and a 20 amp fuse. 12 gauge wire feeding the relay and 2 14 gauges coming off the relay feeding the horns.
  17. Does anyone have a picture of how they mounted the Zumo 550 on their First Generation?
  18. I would like to put a three pocket windshield pouch on my 07 RSTD. Has anyone put one on, and how did you mount it? Had a Harley one on my Venture (sold it with the bike). Looks like it would need to be mounted to the windshield bolts, but needs to rise upward a bit to miss the speedo. What does anyone have and how is it mounted?
  19. The battery is looking like a rat's nest with the extra wires (heated clothes wiring, stebel horn wiring, etc.) and I am adding a fuse block to clean it up. Where have you mounted one of these? I ordered a Centech2 from CycleGadgets and it should be here Friday for installation this weekend. Suggestions? Thanks, RR
  20. Does anyone here have the Yamaha smoked lowers on their Venture and a set of Kuryakyn highway pegs mounted as well? I am not sure if you can do both so I am asking. Pictures would help showing the highway pegs mounted along with the Yamaha lowers...also would be interested in knowing the model number and any additional accessories needed to make that happen.
  21. OK....I finally got my new tires mounted today. Local Honda shop is open until 8:00 and I managed to get home early enough to get the wheels off and get them over there, mounted and balanced and then got them back home and the bike is ready again. This will be my test of the Avon's versus the Michelin's. I have been very pleased with the Michelin Commanders with my only very small complaint being that they did howl just a bit in the long curves. I liked them so much that deciding to try the Avon's was a tough decision for me. I've heard so many good reviews though that I decided to give them a try. If they grip as well on the wet roads and give me decent mileage then that will be fine. If they are quiet in the curves also, that will be icing on the cake. We'll see. By the way, I do have the leveling links and once again went with the 150 (stock) size tire on the front.
  22. My 83 standard had a radio mounted in it when I got it using a plastic cover from Cycle Sound. Over the years it got in bad shape. I made a cover similar to the one shown and the radio went straight down. I then made a stiffer one and made it so the radio mounted at a 30 degree angle. This made the CD work better and made it also easier to get the CD's out and even change them on the run. I have taken some pictures to help anyone contemplating doing this. It is a bit of work and I did use some good thick aluminum sheet. When I was finished making what I wanted, I painted it with black "wrinkle" paint. This give it a surface texture and covers some of the blemishes. As you can see, I also installed some switches. These go to my fog/running lights, the rear light bars, the radar detector and two sets of strobe lights in the headlight bucket. RandyA
  23. Here's a pic of my bike ready for a trip. Note the driver backrest with adjustable lumbar support, tour pak mounted with RSTD brackets and the 3 gallon aux. aluminum fuel tank on the trailer. AL
  24. Greetings, Definatley going to order up one of these and I will have this painted to color match the bike. How is the screen mounted? Is it removable for paint? Thanks in advance. hh
  25. I use a windshield mounted E-Zpass in my vehicle for business and was curious if it could also be used on my venture and where it would need to be mounted? Kevin
