  1. We are planning on leaving the Schaumburg area on friday morning at 6:30. Anyone else heading that way? We would love to join up with others for the ride!!
  2. Beth and I will be going to Freebird's maintenance day next month. We live in the Windsor, Ontario area, and will be leaving on Friday morning June 5th. So....is there anyone else heading down that way at the same time that would like to hook up and ride together? Anyone from further away that needs a place to crash for a night and then head out with us the next morning? We have 3 spare bedrooms(empty nesters). If anyone is interested in either or, either e-mail me or post it here, and we can make arrangements accordingly. We did leave it rather late, and have to book a room probably in Amherst, funny, because we live in Amherstburg. We are going wide open at work, and I wasn't sure if I could get vacation time or even a day off to attend maintenance day. Yes, the salt industry is going great guns....keep that global warming coming!!! randy:think: gunkylump@hotmail.com

Haylie and I will catch up with him there friday. My oldest daughter flew out here saturday and will be riding with me back to ohio( she lives there) while dale rides the bike. Will be stopping into dons sometime friday afternoon/evening. Dale has a step sister who lives right there in S. Amherst she is keeping Haylie all day saturday for us while we attend MD. Wish us luck that the pain in the a** van doesnt give me any more probs on the trip.... beginning of trip isnt looking good for dale on the bike....storms around here this afternoon predicted..... see u all in ohio !!!
  4. I'm contemplating picking up a Coleman grill/stove to use when camping. It won't neccesarily be used much on motorcycle trips, since it's fairly good size (and it's just easier to hit a DQ local to the area ), but for trips where I'll be sitting in one place for a couple days. This one has both a grilling area, a stove, and a griddle to cook those morning pancakes. The reviews seem promising, and the price is the cheapest I've found it anywhere. Wondered if anyon ehere had some personal experience. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8223654
  5. Who was riding the red on red 1st Gen MK1 that I passed in downtown Dahlonega, Ga this morning (monday June 1st) I was on the Blue metal flake mk2 with the gold metal flake flames. We honked and waved as we passed.
  6. Greetings... 89VR Just synced the carbs (using my $3.50 homemade mamometer) this morning. Starts very easily. Idles perfectly like a bumblebee at just under 1000. Accelerates wonderfully (after the chuffing stops anyway). Sounds like it's in the airbox - and not in the mufflers. In fact - all in all - other than this annoying low rpm backfiring - it runs perfectly... It only happens in first gear, usually on a slight hill. It will not happen if I open the throttle very very slowly and ease it up to over 1800 rpm, at which point I can rocket it if I want. But If I try to beat the next light - It will POP POP POP until it reaches about 1800 - 2500 or so... I'm thinking it might just be bad gas - as I did fill up last night, and did the sync this morning, and it's been happening all day. But anyway - I'm really wondering just exactly what causes backfire on ACCELERATION - it does NOT backfire at all on decel... Timing? But If it were timing, I would think I would have other problems too... I plan to switch out the plugs tomorrow morning, and possibly all the filters too if I can find the cash. So maybe all the running around town will let me get a new tank of fuel from another source in and see if that's all it is... And yes - she's already guzzled 2 cans of seafoam in the last few months - Fwew! The Price of that stuff has doubled in the last year!!
  7. Friday the co-pilot and I are heading up to Northern Utah on Quicksilver - spending the week at Snowbird and riding out each day from there. Anybody else gonna be around in Utah during the week of May 17-23? It'd be great to meet up and say howdy if schedules happen to cross. We haven't made any specific plans yet beyond getting there Saturday night and departing the following Saturday morning. We'll probably be covering any interesting side roads we can find within about 400 miles of Salt Lake City all week long. Ride safe! Goose
  8. im so happy this morning......... Order denying defendants motion to suppress !!!! i was so happy when i found out this morning i started crying.......... this is awesome for our case...... he doesnt have anything left to try to fall back on !!!
  9. I just got this from our church office staff. I either drive or ride this road daily. It's a really straight stretch of highway with a 50 mph limit. It's a shame to hear about these things, but when we do it should always remind us of how fleeting life can be. Not just a reminder for when we are on our bikes, but every moment should count. May God bless you and keep you safe. The doctor's office where this occured is right at the entrance to our church. Everyone: I just wanted to let you know that the church office will be closed this morning. At about 7 this morning there was a fatal motorcycle accident in front of the doctors office. The road is currently closed and we do not know how long it will take to open it back up. Please pray for the family of the person killed. As soon as we are able to get in to the church, we will let you know. If you need to get a hold of me in an emergency, you can still e-mail me at the church’s email address or this one or you can call my cell phone at Thanks, Kris
  10. for all the folks coming in on thursday, may 7th, we will be meeting at the cracker barrel at 7pm and go from there to my house for coffee and coffee cake. about 4 miles away. then on friday and saturday morning the 8th and ninth, we will meet at crackerbarrel at 8 am for breakfast. see you all there. bill ps. my home phone is 636-928-3656 if you need last minute info.
  11. well guys we are getting close to the nitty gritty........ motion hearing is this morning..... the only motions i am aware of are his motions to suppress his statement and the evidence, and for a continuance on trial date I was under the belief that these motions were argued between the prosecutor and the defense lawyer and then judge decides whether to allow or not......but apparently the police officers involved and the perps parents will be testifying this morning. I was going to go alone because dale has no paid days left til June, but when he found out they were testifying he took the day off to be there. we havent had to see the jerk since december, so it will be hard to have to look at him again today. I feel so bad for his parents having to go thru this at their age and im sure they arent happy about having to testify especially since they are sposed to be testifying on our side today( i guess its about the search of the living quarters of their son and a magazine he showed Haylie ,which is what he is trying to get suppressed, making sure it was all done legally so we can use it for evidence) ok im ratteling again........... im keeping the faith that all goes our way today........i have a feeling that if it does, his lawyer will be wanting to make a plea bargain real soon. will fill ya in later today....
  12. Geeze!! Two days ago it was 99 in the shade , and I get up this morning and it 50 degs and raining!!!
  13. Hey North Texas Riders, there is a special first time offering of the Ride Like a Pro training class coming up the weekend of May 2/3 in Irving (not too far from the Dallas/Fort Worth airport). I'm signed up for the Saturday morning class, and it would be neat to have a bunch of other Royal Star riders there too. I just noticed that the only post about this is in the Safety and Education forum, so I thought I'd put a mention of it here in the Watering Hole to maybe get a little more attention. This course is normally only available in Houston, so this is a special opportunity for those of us further north. It is being sponsored by a special arrangement through the owner of Stadium Yamaha in Irving with the RLAP guys in Houston. The course will be held both morning and afternoons on Saturday and Sunday near 183 and Beltline Rd. in Irving. The registration does not let you specify which specific class, just the day, since they do not normally hold more than one course a day. I spoke with Jason at Stadium Yamaha, and it sounds like they are waiting to see how many people sign up before they know for sure they need all four sessions that weekend. Here is a link to the original thread, and it has a link to the RLAP home page with details and registration info: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=326304#post326304 Hope to see some of you there! Goose
  14. I saw that the Houston RLAP instructors will be at the Yamaha Stadium on May 2 and 3. https://www.ridelikeaprohouston.com/sched.htm
  15. Well I had an awe SH *&* in the garage this morning. Had my bike in the chock I bought from Harbor Frieght, been using it for over and year now no problem. Until this morning when a crash woke me up. Over she went. The Clearview sheild is toast and the grip on the clutch side as well. Could have been worse I guess. Not sure why she went over. Anyway, does anyone have a stock sheild they could let me borrow? I will pay for shipping. I ordered a replacement from Clearview this morning and it's going to be 2 to 4 weeks before I get it. Had a 3 day weekend ride schedule this comming weekend. Guess that is in jepardy unless I can get a sheild by Thursday. If anyone has a stock sheild lying around I could use for a few weeks I would really appreciate it.
  16. I just ordered a Kumho today from a local dealer for $50. It should be in tomorrow, I'll put it on after I have it balanced Thursday morning. Does that make me a Darksider? \
  17. Good morning all. I just found a cluch issue. When I let my bike set for about a week. I start it up and put in gear it wants to go and it will die. If I hit the starter with the clutch in it will go about three inches and than free up. Any ideas. Thank you. Richard:confused:
  18. well, got nothing to do this weekend, the weather looks good, and i talked to buddy this morning, so i think i will ride down to springfield for the big bike swap between him and roadkill. looking forward to seeing both of them. maybe ride back with roadkill sunday. linda said don't let the door hit you in the butt, and lowell ain't even here. lol. i get no respect. cabin fever is beginning to mellow. can't wait to leave. trouble is will i be able to keep up with roadkill on that new wing coming home.
  19. This has been a tough week, I had to put "Granny " Down Tuesday night.... it was really tough to do, but she was old and had layed down and couldn`t get back up on her feet, so it was the only choice I had, and it was the right choice. Oh BTW... Granny was my 31yr old Quarter Horse.. She would meet me at the gate every morning and every day after work.. I still catch myself looking there for her, and this may take some time to get over.. any way, It helps to share.. Thanks, K

  22. Had a good visit with Leeway yesterday and last night. He showed up yesterday morning and it looked like rain but cleared up and turned out to be a nice 75 deg F day, so we took a pleasant afternoon ride and came home to some fried fish and shrimp. Rode with him this morning to the interstate in Slidel La and saw him off to Florida to see that grandbaby. Just heard from him and the rain caught up with him close to the Fl. line. That's two visitors this winter, one from Jrichard on his way from Fl to TX, another great visit. Don't know what happened to Roadkill:confused24:.
  23. i am going to make one more trip to the hub. to tie up the loose ends and finalize everything for the 2009 venture rider rally. it will probably be toward the end of april or the middle of may. i will be leaving st. charles mo. early on a sat. morning and plan on doing a round trip in one day. staying overnight at the hub is an option, to check out the rooms. would anyone be interested in riding with me or meeting me there late on a saturday morning, like around 10 am. i did this last year and met some of my committee members there and we had a great breakfast and a great time time. it will be set up on a weekend when the weather on both ends looks decent. let me know if you are interested. bill
  24. i ride every saturday and sunday morning during riding season with a couple of local members. i would like to get a big group of members together for the riding season who would like to get together and do early morning rides on the weekends in my area. kind of like a local chapter of venturerrider.org. this inludes all you lurkers that are still on the fence. the rides will start very early in the morning like a meeting time of 6am on sat. and sun. and would be from 100 to 200 miles. depending on what every one agrees on. i live in the st. charles area next to st. louis. if anyone is interested pm me with all your stats like where you are and i will put you on my list. i am dead serious about this cuz i almost live on my bike. so come out of your closet and join us. bill :clap2: ps. speaking of lurkers on the fence, dive in and join the fun. you won't regret it.
  25. Sorry about the scare folks. I've had a bit of trouble with the server over the past few days. About 4 times a day, I get an email letting me know that the CPU usage is high. I login and it all looks normal, no problems that I can find. I was working with our host company this morning and they were tweaking the MYSQL settings to try and find the problem. Apparently we tweaked when we should have twacked or some technical term like that. Anyway, things are restored and back to normal for now. Just have to see if I continue to get the high CPU usage error.
