  1. Ok gang, I have my RSV lowered front and rear.I am VERY happy with the way the bike handles, only real problem is the muffler scraping. I thought maybe I would make a set of links that are 3/4 or 1/2 the difference between the Barons and the stock links. I don't have a drill press handy and thought I might just see if someone was making these? Thanks for any and all help! Frank
  2. I was on the hunt to find how to raise the rear of the bike for better handling and more clearance in the twisties. I was lead to this post about making links. The leveling links spoke of in this forum lower the bike and they dont work for the earl RS. Pegscraper was doing a bunch of calculations and figured out that if we were to diconnect the linkage and replace them backwards. Facing the opposite direction the bike would raise very close to an inch. This post died in 2007 and there has been no update on how well this has worked out. I PMed pegscraper with no response so maybe someone else who has done this can chime in. I did this to my royal star this afternoon but due to a cold I cannot ride it yet. Maybe tommorow and see what difference there is. I only fear the strength of the links as installing them backwards allows a weaker, thinner side of the metal link to be in place of the fatter beefier side. I wonde rif this causes any malfuntion in the future.
  3. Anyone have a stock set of leveling links they would like to part with.I need to remove the lowering kit on my bike so I can install the Voyager trike kit I just bought.
  4. From what i read so far I have went to the website to purchase the leveling links but now I think these may be for teh 02 and up ventures. I have tried turning the locknut and collar on the mono shock under the bike and I m trying to find the sweet riding spoty. it seems like the collar only moves a 1/4 of an inch or so forward or backwards. That doesnt seem like it would do much difference in comfort. the bike also seems hard to egt into deep turns. i have scraped a time or two but not consistant. Am i just sitting too low and too heavy. Im close to 400lb solo.
  5. I like to use subscriptions to threads to bookmark ones that I like, and to be notified when replies are made. My question is about the mysterious Subscribed Articles and even more mysterious Subscribed Journals on my Home Page. All they ever do is tell me "There are no subscriptions." What is their purpose? Why can't they take me to my Subscription List so that I don't have to go via my User Control Panel? To be honest, that usually takes me a while to remember where it is. Those "Subscribed" links must surely be important to be so high in the links on the left side. I'm just mystified at their purpose.
  6. Well I installed my leveling links last night was pretty easy but I have 1 question, I used the new bolts supplies by Diamond R when I had the new bolts tight to 36 ft/lbs with torque wrench there was a small amount of slop, you could push the bolt back and forth maybe 1/16" I did not notice this when I took the other ones off but that doesn't mean it wasn't there is this the way its suppose to be? I have rode the bike to try out the new links WOW what a difference it definetly makes a difference in the handling if you don't have them on your bike yet I would reccomend them. Diamond r - what great service I ordered a backrest, L.E.D. brakelight for under my trunk and the leveling links on Fri and had them on Mon. I talked with Patty on the phone and she was very freindly and helpfull. Then yesterday I received an e-mail telling me that she crediting back 20 bucks because shipping wasn't as much as anticipated how many places do that now days Jeff
  7. I read through the leveling links threads that come up when searched here. My interpretation of it is that these bikes typically sit high in the rear?? My bike sits high in the front. Much higher then the rear actually. I was going to check air in shocks tonight but all my gauges start at 10psi. It is something you could pick out in a picture actually. ?? Is is it typical for the "ride height" to be more in the front then rear??? Or should I see a more pronounced level stance?? TIRES ARE FRONT= Dunlop D404F 150/80-16 REAR= Dunlop D404 150/90B15
  8. As we get older, and the fact we are targets for cagers, chances are, we, or our family may need medical services in the future, which may include blood transfusions But....more and more it is becoming evident that bloodless surgery is the best for patients. As some may know, I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and so I refuse blood for religious reasons. This is NOT meant to be a religious discussion! I wanted to provide some links where you can get information on the use of blood so you can make your own decisions. For me...it is because I believe that is what God wants for us...but it also is just GOOD MEDICINE! One link is a well known PBS news show. Another is a preview of a video put out by Jehovah's Witnesses. I promise that the fulll length video is not "preachy"...it is a logical and very good examination of the use of blood and an explaination of alternatives to blood transfusion. Again....this is not meant to push my beliefs on anyone (that's not what we do anyway) but is an interesting subject that could affect us individually or our family. SO IT"S GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT! Here's the links www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/health/video-blood-test-what-you-dont-know-about-blood/3036/ www.watchtower.org/e/vcae/article_01.htm www.jw-media.org/gbl/gbl02e.htm you will see there are several links for more information on the Watchtower site. ...again...these videos do not push the beliefs of the Witnesses....but do provide good information. IF anyone wants to discuss the religious aspects of this subject I would be willing to do so via PM's. If anyone, after seeing the previews and checking out the other links, want a copy of the DVDs distributed by JW's, I could arrange to get a copy for them. PLEASE don't turn this into a religious discussion or I'm sure it will be pulled by the moderators.
  9. spent saturday tinkering in the garage, removed the diamond leveling links, i am 5'10" and 32 inch inseam, was on balls of my feet most of the time at a stop, not what i would consider to be ideal. so off came the links, opened up fairing and raised forks in the triple tree, reassembled and rode off. first impressions: feet now flat on the ground, much more stable stops. bike handles better at low speeds than with links, no high speed changes in handling. just a more confident feeling when stopping with a 900 lb machine. was well worth the time and effort spent....
  10. Looking around tonight and I get a new pop up window with VenturePodcasting. What is this and where did it come from ? Below is the link to the site. None of the links at this site worked for me. http://www.venturepodcasting.com/1.html Brad
  11. Well folks I took the plunge and had ordered a buncha parts and tools, one of which were the Leveling Links from DR. The instructions didn't look complicated per se but they talked about remove a bunch of hoses from some contraption and silly enough it was a little intimidating to me.. However, once the bike was sky hooked and sitting stable, a quick looks showed how simple of a job this was going to be.. wow. Pull two bolts, replace the old hardware with the new, grease stuff in the process and voila, Leveling Links installed.. Down she goes for a test ride.. and egads I almost dropped the bike LOL.. I say almost because the babe wanted to kiss that corner like there was NO tomorrow and she recovered sweetly like I had never seen her do before. wow.. what a difference!! Ever do a tight turn and have that weird sensation that the front end was going to turn into itself and lock up, causing you to drop the bike? ( c'mon, I know you have lol) Well the leveling links basically got rid of that sensation and allows you to properly power out of that tight turn like the should do when properly handled.. I can hardly wait to let her loose on the MOST II course this week =) Hesitating about doing the links? It's simple and well worth the expense and time/effort to install.. wow. You can paint me as one satisfied customer!
  12. There are some links to ebay in the "Quickstep has a bike" thread for CB's that only take you to the home page. There was some discussion about this problem awhile ago.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46616 but it didn't seem as if it ever got resolved. The general concensious was that you COULD NOT BE LOGGED IN TO EBAY on your personal account if you wanted to copy and paste the link to a speciific item. So....whats the REAL story? Is it that the poster was logged in or is it my machine?
  13. I'm getting ready to make some leveling links and got to thinking about the reports of the shock going bad. Has anyone had the links on when it failed? Did Yamaha have any issues covering the shock under warranty? Maybe I should put the stock links back on before sending it to the shop if/when the shock fails?
  14. After all of the discussion of improved slow speed handling that leveling links provide I decided to make a set last Friday. Following the instruction posted in the technical section I made a set from 1/4 x 1 1/4 steel bar from Home Depot. After letting the paint on them dry I installed them and took slow trip around the neighborhood. Wow, they did improve the slow speed handling. Great! I thought. So yesterday I had a 300 mile ride planned with my riding buddies going over roads we've been on dozens of times. A lot of twisties and sweeping curves with good smooth pavement. We hit the curves and the bike was a handful to keep under control. It was extremely "twitchy" and required constant corrections. Without the links I could just set the bike up lay into the curves with a smooth transistion through them. I know it's contrary to popular opinon here, but I don't like them and I plan to go back to the stock links today. Dennis
  15. I know.. I know... this is definately not Bike related... BUT... If I soon don't get this thing fixed, I won't be riding anytime soon. Looking specifically for a free online download. Ebay sells service manual for around $200. I've seen them online but can't find the links anymore. Am having Hydraulics problems in the outriggers and need to tear apart.
  16. I installed leveling links on my RSV today and immediately felt like I was riding a new bike. I can't believe how much easier it is to handle. Two things: I felt more air as I was sitting up higher and looking over the windshield - and I used my Carbon One adapter and couldn't take the bolt out so I had to lower the bike and just use the jack. If you haven't installed the links you are missing a great ride!
  17. Got my new links on yesterday, everyone was right. the bike feels so much lighter and more fun to ride. I wanted say to those that haven't met Squidley, what great people he and his wife are. I had never met them before and they treated me like an old friend. Hope my wife and I can go for a ride with them soon. Thanks again Squidley.
  18. OK, there has been a ton of discussion on this forum about oil, tires, windshields, leveling links, lights, carb heaters and the infamous whining splines in the clutch. I've personally appreciated all of the advice and opinion from all of you on the things that can improve my overall ride, performance and maintenance of my '99 RSV, and I hope I've added a little something to the discussions as well. So now what more can I do to make my ride as good as it can be, or improve its performance or life. It rides pretty darn nice right now (53K miles, ME880's, Yamalube semi-synth oil w/ Motorkote, leveling links installed, Showchrome 13" windscreen, full maintenance schedule every 3000 - 4000 miles)? Am I missing anything that I should be doing or changing or adding? I haven't changed out the i-basket yet, but that's already on the list.
  19. Considering this while I'm doing everything else... What is the difference between installing leveling links and smaller front tire? (aside from overall higher/lower seat) Is there a handling difference between the two options or are they both basically the exactly same handling, just one inch or so difference in saddle height? I'm worried about the high speed "squirreliness" that i hear happens with smaller front tire. Do leveling links also do the same thing?
  20. When I am in a thread and I try to use the mark forums read under the quick links at the bottom of the page, I get the following message. If I use the one at the top of the page, it works fine. Only the bottom one does this. It's happened a couple times now. I can't say this is terribly important. Other links work fine. But I thought you might like to know. Your submission could not be processed because a security token was invalid.
  21. I was looking on eBrandon.ca and noticed 3 Ventures listed. If anybody is interested, I hope these links work. http://www.ebrandon.ca/ItemView.aspx?item_id=215818 http://www.ebrandon.ca/ItemView.aspx?item_id=223533 http://www.ebrandon.ca/ItemView.aspx?item_id=217433
  22. NOTE: For those of you who do not feel comfortable or don't have the tools to make your own leveling links, they are also available from Diamond R Accessories. An excellent vendor with great products. You can find them at http://www.diamondraccessories.com
  23. For some reason it seems that when people post links to an item on ebay, they do not work anymore. Not sure when this started, maybe a month ago or so.... Clicking on the link just takes me to the ebay home page. I have tried this on several links posted on this site, plus I have tried it on both of my computers at home and on my computer at work. In addition, I have tried it with IE8, Firefox, and Chrome browsers....same thing. Are others experiencing this? Here is a sample. Click the link shown in this post: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=451994&postcount=6 Joe
  24. When I bought my bike it was lowered 2.5 inches. I'm a tall guy so I had it put back to stock height this week. I actually think I may want the leveling links put on in the future. I like the bike being higher a lot better.... The Yamaha dealership quoted me $750 to raise the bike. I had it done by a local guy for $50. Yeah, look at the difference. He said it was a very simple process to lower/raise the bike. Anyhow, I have the links and plate to relocate the brakes if anyone is interested. Like I said before, it will lower the rear end about 2.5 inches. I have no idea what it's worth. Is anyone interested? Let me know.... Ben
  25. Hey guys, I'm sure some of you may have seen these links on E-Bay UK but if not it might be worth checking them out. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=KDWCHK74QNR6L Probably more use to the European and UK members but the company were very efficient and a great price, especially against getting them made yourself. Cheers
