  1. Went out to check the battery on the 86 this afternoon, powered up fine, but since the last time I turned the key about a month ago, it has decided that the low brake fluid light should be on. I read a few threads here this afternoon, found the rear resevoir was a bit low, brought it up, no change. Now, I read something about a possibility of resoldering the computer? Are there any threads that deal directly with that? I couldn't find any, and not that I"m really looking to do something like that, it would be good to at least have the reference. Thanks. Joe
  2. Well I have the factory light bar for my bike but I'm still waffling on what switch to buy. So far I've gotten a switch to put in the fairing but changed my mind so I bought a billet switch to mount on the handlebar. Now I don't think I want that one either. Bummer recommended the Kuryakyn switch that mounts on the master cylinder. I like it but haven't seen one in real life. Does it slide over the master cylinder reservoir or simply sit on top? http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/images/image_18259_200.jpg Here is another brand. It looks like it either slides over the reservoir or is a replacement. Note the cover is on top. I'm really interested in this one because it looks like I can mount my Hoon XM radio mount on top. Anyone know about this style? http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/361_Accessory_Switches/20159_Chrome_Brake_Side_LED_Accessory_Switch_Block/?goto=%2Fpgroup_list%2Fgl1800%2F361_goldwing_Accessory_Switches%2Fdes%2F http://www.wingstuff.com/images//store1/pgroups/20159_image1.gif
  3. Well, I finally finished my driving lights. I used the brackets from here, the Optronics lights from Wal-Mart and stuff from the electrical box. I replaced the light hardware with stainless steel 1/4" allen bolts. The cross bolt is 1 1/4" and the vertical bolt is 3/4". I used S/S washers and acorn nuts. The hardware was about $8.00. The 1/4" bolts actually thread into the metric holes. It is tight but they run in with a wrench. Gives them a safety retainer feature. I retained the light bezel with a #4 S/S screw and some blue locktite on the screw. The switch operates the ground side of the relay. The 12VDC side of the relay coil is supplied by the accessory fuse. The main power comes from the battery via a 15amp fuse. This shuts the lights off when the bike is turned off, preventing accidental battery drain. The relay is mounted on the bolt that retains the noise filter. As set, each light is drawing 4.3 amps. The system seems to be doing ok. Voltage is remaining above 13.5 at idle. Runs up to about 13.8 at 2K. Without lights on I am showing about 14.1 at idle and 14.6 at 2K. The MR16 bulbs are 55 watt and appear to be a narrow flood pattern. I may change to a narrow spot later. Initial impression is good. A lot of light and the roadside is illuminated well. Total cost for the job including lights is about $45.00. This is figuring in a mil-spec waterproof switch with rubber toggle boot. Pictures attached showing screw, hardware, and finished product. JB
  4. got e-mail from one of our members today (Venture87) and he is asking me does odyssey battery afeckt trouble light on dashboard, or work just plug and play. I have no idea about 1st gen. second gen just work. Thanks
  5. Does any one know if the halogen passing lamps for the RSTD will fit the RSV light bar?I am planning to buy a light bar,but would rather have the halogen lamps, if they will fit.The part # is STR-4NK35-10-01.By the way, the best price I have found for accessories is MotorsportsSupercenter.com in Hamilton,AL.They actually have 2 different websites. The other one is MotorsportsSuperstore.com.The cost is a little more, but it offers $5.95 shipping on all orders over $50 in USA. Just check both sites to get best overall price with shipping.
  6. Has anyone here purchased one of those (not so cheap) spoiler-type trunk lights for a 2nd gen. If so, how easy does it mount, how well does it work and most important, what do you think of it?
  7. It seems like some of the discussions we see endlessly discussed, and if we don't have a particular interest in the topic, we might just lightly scan it but not really give it any serious attention. Then later on, we develop an interest in that topic and return to the previous threads to search out the details - and then we can't find just what we need even though we know that we saw it somewhere. That's what I'm up against. If the answer is there, would someone just point me to it please? I would like to install a nice looking LED Light Bar on my '07 Midnight Venture. However, I don't want to spend $300 on Yamaha's trunk spoiler light bar. I know of one person who found a nice looking bar which he mounted right between his helmet locks, but I can't remember the manufacturer. I like the Signal Dynamics,15'' LED Ultra Light Bar, but it looks like it would need to be attached to some sort of a fabricated bracket if I wished to put it between my helmet locks. I'm not sure that it would look good to just stick it on the trunk with the adhesive tape. If I mount a light bar back there, I want to make sure that it looks like it belongs there, and not look like something which I didn't take the time to think through properly. I would also like to see a few close-up pictures of different mounting alternatives and what they look like, but not just when they are lit-up. I already know what bright LED lights look like when they are lit up. I want to see how good the light bar looks as an accessory and if it looks like it's supposed to be there. So, I'm open to suggestions. But, please be aware that I'm no fabricator. As a matter of fact, I'm probably just barely smart enough to know that it's important to make this task look good, but not able to accomplish it without some help. Each new project becomes a learning experience. Thanks guys & Be Safe! Pete.
  8. Hey if you have a buddy in law enforcement the bulbs out of the stobe lights in a police car are much brighter. Check the light bars that have been damaged or are old, see if you can get the bulbs. I used them they really make a big difference in turn lights. You also can order them from souther police supply, Galls and also check with Fire and Rescue they use the same light bars just different covers. Scott
  9. I hope this post isn't being beat to death but here goes anyway. Just installed a 15 inch LED light bar on the rear of my 88 VR and it works and looks great. I am intent on improving rear visibility both during the day and at night short of wearing a yellow reflective vest. I am just curious as to how much amp draw one can expect the taillight circuit to handle without ruining the computer. I was looking for replacements for the two 1157 dual filament bulbs that might draw a little less amp, but have not been able to locate a suitable substitute. I suppose there isn't such a bulb. Each 1157 bulb draws 2.1 amps, I think anyway, and maybe 2.7 amps (don't know for sure) when the brake light is activated. Double that for two bulbs and that is perhaps as much as 5.4 amps. No wonder the voltmeter drops so radically when the brake light is on. Has anyone modified their scoots like I have and would they have any advice on how to reduce the rear brake light circuit draw just a tad? I did purchase two led bulbs and installed them. Even with two led bulbs and the 15 inch led light bar, the computer warning light was on.
  10. Does anyone know if the royal star and ventures use the same passing light bars? Thanks tj
  11. to much white rain the second pic is ice hanging off a street light
  12. Anyone have a trunk light and if so can you please comment as to what you have and maybe post a pic or 2?

    Rear Lighting

I'm looking to light up the rear of my '99 venture. Any suggestions on running/brake leds or other light bars? Thanks , Jeff
  14. I did not get to go for my Sunday ride this week......so today it was more than I could stand.......beautiful day.....warm......sun out.....so I tucked my shoe laces inside my work boots and picked up a helmet in the garage and off I went on Crickett to go in person to see about a bid on some water meters, heck with this phone stuff.....lets go for a ride. On 378 a Green Chevy Blazer at the stop light by I-20 overshot the stop light and ended up halfway through the intersection. He backed up to the painted line......I was right behind him, another white Ford pickup right behind me......I noticed the right rear backup light still on.....the left was burned out.......so I put both feet on the ground.....and slowly backed my bike up as far as I could almost up against the pickup....this gave me about a 10 foot escape area........I saw it setting up......I knew it was going to happen!! The guy in the Blazer was still in reverse gear....he had forgotten to shift back to drive. Sure enough....when the light turned green........three things happened, I saw the rear tires on the Green Blazer start to come my way....so I instantly zipped around him on the left side into the middle median.....he hit the gas to go forward....the pickup behind me hit the gas to go forward.....yep.....busted plastic and headlights all over the place......the fellows face in the pickup.....it was classic.....I am still tickled over that. I called the cops for them......stayed.....county sheriff asked me what happened....got my name and number .....told me I could go.....I think he was giving both of them a ticket for something. You simply have to stay alert.....if I had not seen the backup light on. Could have been serious............Ride defensive guys...it can happen at any second......sure can.
  15. was out on my morning coffee run. still dark, approaching my all time favorite stoplight, where i have had several close calls from people running it, like real close.anyway the light turns yellow i stop, then red and a jerk in a van blows by me and runs it. blue flashes all over the place ,scares the hell out of me before i realize he got his picture took. :clap2::clap2:wanted to follow him and tell him, hey idiot, you just got a ticket. some times i just love to see big brother doing his job. :rotf:
  16. I've had it. This is a plea for the name, place to buy,who makes it,LIGHT BULB for a drop light. One that lasts longer than PFZZT! The person who named it the Drop Light couldn't have named it any better. I have one of those florescent drop lights it's about indestructible but they just are not as bright.
  17. I need some suggestions.......I wish to install a passing light kit or lights or whatever on my bike. I normally do not use them as I run on high beam with a modulator during daylight hours and in most states to have the passing lights on with the high beam is illegal. But I do get caught out after dark on occasion.....and would like to know.....what lights light up the road? I want something that will light up a football field!! I do not run heated clothing...and will have only one other accessory, a GPS.......So what lights are the most powerful......and where can I purchase them. Thanks
  18. got it put on tonight.
  19. Last night, one of our local Utah news stations featured a story about a family in a neighboring city who has put together the mother of all Christmas light shows. I thought that I had seen a pretty good one on the internet a couple of years ago, but seriously you have got to see this one. Since you’re probably too busy, to come out to this neck of the woods, it’s creator was kind enough to put his entire light show on-line to share with us. http://www.holdman.com/christmas/video.asp Enjoy! Pete.
  20. More chrome! Has anyone tried these things? How does light shine through chrome? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-V-Max-Road-Star-VStar-650-1100-CHROME-LENSES_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ011QQitemZ320198418772QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  21. Im going to order new passing light bulbs since im going to rewire the passing lights soon. I was also thinking about going to a led bulb. Since I am not disassembling it right now, I need to know what bulb size (type) is in there now so I can have it on hand. Thanks........
  22. I rode to work today my first ride in the dark on the new RSV. the stock light is no where near as bright as i like. what have other members done to correct this issue. what replacment bulb are you using? What light bar are you running? thanks Ken
  23. Would like to know if anybody has changed out their 1157 bulbs over to led 1157 ? Reason I'm asking is I changed out my two brake light bulbs over to Led which put out a lot more light and less draw on battery but in turn it sets off the light indicator on the dash stating I have a bad bulb. So has any body came across a Led bulb that does not set off the indicator light? I already changed my trailer over to led so now I would like to do the same for the bike. buddy
  24. Hi Guys, I'm usually over on the 1st gen side of things, but I have a buddy who wants a driving light bar for his RSV and his wife asked me where to get one. What are the choices out there? Where have you bought them and for how much? Thanks, Jeremy
  25. A little history: As most of you know, I have been trying to track down an electrical charging glitch which rears its ugly head at the worst times. I have replaced the side stand relay (not the sidestand switch), the rectifier/regulator, performed voltage drop tests and all was well. I then installed a "Heads-Up L.E.D. Voltage Monitor from Signal Dynamics Corp, which is micropressor controlled. It flashes red, green or yellow to tell you just what your charging system is doing, 50,000 times per second. This thing is so sensitive that the charging light goes from full green to yellow when any light is applied such as brakes or turn signals. It seems to have the worst draw when I turn on my driving lights, which run through a relay. Tonight we rode to a restaurant where the red light came on and stayed on for several minutes, indicating a failing charge condition. We never shut the bike down and rode home. A few minutes later the bike showed normal charging again, so the problem seems very intermittent. When I got home the bike fired up perfectly several times. it also started right up after 2 hours of sitting. Now to my question(s): Has anyone here ever installed this gauge on their bike? Im thinking that this gauge is really super sensitive and the variations that I have experienced are normal. SO, if you have installed this item on your bike, how has it responded? Was the green steady, or did it fluctuate whenever brakes or signals were used? Driving lights? etc?
