  1. Considering this while I'm doing everything else... What is the difference between installing leveling links and smaller front tire? (aside from overall higher/lower seat) Is there a handling difference between the two options or are they both basically the exactly same handling, just one inch or so difference in saddle height? I'm worried about the high speed "squirreliness" that i hear happens with smaller front tire. Do leveling links also do the same thing?
  2. Did a bit of work on my bike this weekend. Installed the Diamond R leveling links. Have to say this was the easiest mod I have ever done. When I removed the old and compared them to the new, thought there must have been a mistake because there isn't much difference between the two. Until you drive it. Kinda crazy how a 1/4" difference makes the front end seem so much lighter. And now I can look over the windshield no problem. And I didn't even have to remove any thing to change them out. Did a carb sync and once again am amazed at how simple and quick it is to do. A shame that the dealer charges anything for this. This would be a procedure that they could do as a courtesy, not lose much on it and build a ton of good will. Did a clutch fluid change, the old was getting a bit dark, so chaned it out and got a bit more lever out of the clutch and not as big a thunk going into gear. Good times working on the bike. As soon as my HID headlight gets here I'll have something else to work on.
  3. NOTE: For those of you who do not feel comfortable or don't have the tools to make your own leveling links, they are also available from Diamond R Accessories. An excellent vendor with great products. You can find them at http://www.diamondraccessories.com
  4. Don't know if I listed the name right, but what I'm looking for is the plastic panel cover that has the openings for the CB, and the has the door with the Leveling Unit and opens to refill the radiator overflow bottle. Just need the panel, not the CB, Leveling unit or door. For a 1989 Venture Royale
  5. just a thought , i know i should not do it but what if somebody made a set of these for our bike , we could set the rear hight away we want ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160361922897#ht_6852wt_1062
  6. I have shortened the center holes on the Leveling link to (converted Inch to MM) 169mm now I would like to shorten the holes distends to 165mm raze the rear about 1/2 inch do you think it will be safe or cone you see a problem Thanks
  7. Howdy all - Those of you who put the leveling links on your RSV and ride 2-up - did the leveling links increase the wind buffeting for your passenger? My wife loves to ride, but hated the buffeting we experienced on other bikes we've owned. Without the links, she's loving the Venture. Will she love it after I install the links? Thanks!
  8. Leveling Links are. --------( S O L D )--------- (and shipped) I have decided to add these to my list for sale (forgot about the links), when I pre-sold my air shock a couple days ago. I tell you that I am so glad that I purchased these last year made all the difference in the world on how my bike handled after the install. http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=Leveling%20Link%20Kit For $65.00 Shipped. The only things that I have left is the rear fender, rear tail light, Almost new rear tire. complete rear wheel Assembly. (click my handle for a pm or my email) Thanks, Jeff
  9. Bought the bike used and thought of installing the Leveling Links. How do I tell if the links have already been installed? Haven't ridden any other 2 gen's, so I have nothing to compare it with.
  10. I'm a new owner of a 2008 Venture and after reading all the threads on the leveling links, I decided to order a set from Diamond R yesterday. Is there any problem with Yamaha honoring the warranty with this slight suspension mod? I didn't see anything mentioned, but was just wondering if it could be an issue. Great site, I've learned a ton in a short period of time, thanks for any responses. Smith
  11. I have a 1986 Venture Royale - My leveling system does not work. What steps do I need to do. It worked when I bought it. Any ideas?
  12. now i'm really confused. purchased 07 RSV right off the showroom floor - zero miles. after reading several threads - ordered the Diamond R leveling links. finally got around to installing them this afternoon - for the trip to Rogers. sonofagun - i thought the Diamond R were supposed to be longer than the stock links. but they're not. Factory link is 6 3/4" center holes and 8" long - Diamond R link is 6 5/8" center holes and 7 3/4" long called a riding buddy who bought the RSV next to mine in the showroom - knew he swapped the dogbones some time ago. he agreed that the Diamond R were about an inch longer than the stock ones. i'm confused.... any thoughts???? note: i've ridden this thing 35k miles in the last year. it has not been out of my sight except for service ...
  13. Is the MT90HB-16 same as the 130/90-16? or close enough? I maybe jumping ship from the Metzlers to the Avons, but I still want the narrower front, I like the responsive feel of that combo with my leveling links!
  14. I am getting ready to purchase new Avons for my Midnight 05 RSV. I have the leveling links installed and have read a lot of the threads that say go to the smaller front Avon to improve the handling. My question is if I already have the links and the the bike handles great does buying the smaller front tire make a difference in the handling? Moakster
  15. Any suggestions as to where I can buy leveling links for my 2005 RSTD. Diamond R has them for the Venture but I don't think they will work on the Tour Deluxe. I am looking to lower my bike about 1". Any help would be appreciated.. " KEEP THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN"
  16. When it was time to change my front tire I ordered the smaller front tire. At the same time I ordered a set of leveling links. Now my question is, can I use the leveling links with the smaller front tire? Or do I stay with smaller front tire or go back to stock front and use leveling links? I thought I read on here that someone said it was not good to use both. Thanks, Dale
  17. I have a dilemma with my rear shock. The bike was fine and then I installed the leveling links. After about a month or so the shock began to groan. I read all the posts about how the shock shaft needs to be oiled by laying the bike over or adding oil through the shrader valve. I did both . No luck so I took it in and they removed the shock and found it is fine and holding air. They found the needle bearing were worn so they replaced them under warranty. Here come the problem. They but the regular links back on the bike and the groaning went away. They rode it for several miles and all was fine. They reinstalled my leveling links and the groaning returned. They then removed the leveling links and replaced them with the standard links and the groaning shock went away again. :confused24: Anyone else have this issue and could the links be putting the needle bearings under some kind of stress or bind that causes them to prematurely wear out. Moakster
  18. I bought it 2 weeks ago and it is just to heavy bike for my 185 lb riding double... I put 2 new Avons on it and really very very nice shape.. And also put leveling links on bike. Does have CD player with bike Just paid 8800 for the bike I want a BMW 1150 RT any trades or offers.. Joe in NJ..
  19. Any one know what center to center dimension of leveling Links are...from diamond R
  20. I just recently received my Diamond R leveling links and would like to install them on my bike. However I believe I read somewheres on here that a standard motorcycle lift won't lift the Venture. I have the craftsman model lift that many other companies also stick there name on. Why will this lift not work, and if it doesn't is there any other secret to installing them besides going to a shop? Thanks for your help guys.
  21. Received the leveling links last week. Diamond R is good to do business with. Installed them this morning and just drove about 5 miles to office. Feels like I am sitting on an elephant. Will find out later how it handles.
  22. A quick update. After input from several of you, I've upgraded to the Flanders bars from BuckeyePerformance.com, ISO grips and installed the leveling links from DiamondR on my 2007 RSV. WOW!!! what a difference. Got to learn to ride the bike all over again. I also added passing lamps, "fog lights", a Kuryakyn voltmeter and switch box. The lights are run on separate circuits with relays through a power plate located in the trunk. I highly recommend these upgrades. Best Regards, Leonard
  23. The '96 - '01 Royal Stars have a different rear suspension than the 2nd gen Ventures, and no one makes any leveling links for them, so I'll be making my own. That opens up the option of being able to raise the bike any amount I want. Since the 1st gens are said to handle so well I compared the rake angle of the 1st gen to the 2nd gen, and did some calculating to see just how much the leveling links change things. The rake angle on a 1st gen is 28.5*, and the 2nd gen is 30*. The 1" that the standard leveling links raise the bike changes the angle of the bike by .86*, creating a fork rake angle of 29.1*. To get to a 28.5* fork rake angle the back of the bike would have to be raised by 1 3/4". I could always split the difference somewhere by raising the rear say like 1 1/4" and dropping the front 1/2". As long as the rear rise plus front drop equals 1 3/4" it's all the same thing. Myself, I would prefer the full rear rise for the most cornering clearance, and I'm such a tall guy I wouldn't mind the higher seat either. This weekend I propped the rear wheel up 1 3/4" with boards and sat on the bike and it felt fine. My only real concern is that with that much rise on the bike the kickstand will be a little short. On the boards in the garage it seemed okay, but I wonder how it would be if a parking lot somewhere was sloped the wrong way or something. So the question is - for those of you with the standard 1" leveling links, how much concern is there about the slope of the ground where you park? Any at all? I'd like to get a feel for how much rear rise I could get away with as far as the kickstand length is concerned. I'd really like to not have to make these more than once. I suppose with some extra work I could design an adjustable link. Then I could make a height change in only a few minutes. Thoughts anyone?
  24. :feedback:I just received the Diamond R leveling links and will be putting them on tomorrow since it it supposed rain and I try not to ride in the rain. My question is this, I have read the write up in the tech section and it seems pretty straight forward. I am not a wrench turner by any means so is there anything I need to watch out for before starting this project? I have a lift and the lift adapter From Carbon One. Is there anything other than the EIS Reed Valve that needs to be removed to do this job, like removing the wheel, saddlebags will I need to have my wife standing by with a first aid kit? These are just a few of the questions I have.
  25. Well, I just received my leveling links from Diamond R today. Is this a two person job, or something I could do myself. The instructions looked pretty straight forward. I'm picking up my lift adapter hopefully this weekend from Larry, and doing it sometime soon after. Thanks for your help.
