  1. This is the new to me VR that I got for 700$ The carbs need to be cleaned but runs good with the choke partially on. It has some rash on the fairing from the guy dropping it in the garage but everything works on the bike the only problem I have is that it is in Kilometers not US standards, oh and it has an oil leak and needs the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder rebuilt from sitting so long. It only has 71,000 km on it witch is only about 44,000 miles so I think I did good. And I need to know how to take off the damn stickers on the fake gas tank cover....
  2. I recently noticed several small leaks in my 07 RSTD radiator. the amount of coolant which seeps out is very small and seems to stop leaking once the bike is driven. can i add some barr's leak safely.....or please suggest other alternatives. yes the bike is under warranty should i need to take that route.
  3. A couple that attends our church had their house burn down this week; they were well insured and are all ok, however the fire department is telling them that the cover on his motorcycle rubbed against the bike and ignited a gas leak. I am curious if anyone has ever heard of this happening? http://www.abcnews4.com/Global/story.asp?S=13891411
  4. We went for a ride today and upon our return I smelled antifreeze. I located the leak by the right rear sparkplug around a plug that looked like it could be tightened with a hex key. I tried to tighten the plug but it didn't turn so I backed off until I can find out what this is. My manual is snuggled up in my warm garage in Tennessee and I'm here is sunny, chilly Florida..I'll appreciate any comments. Thanks.
  5. Seems for Thanksgiving I got a gas leak! Yhea me, I was wondering what to do on this one good day off!! Upon starting the bike I find fuel dripping off the front left engine guard up near the wheel. Pulled the tank cannot see anything and believe I finally will have to pull the airbox for the first time and search around the carbs (virgin territory for me)! Any thoughts or experiences with this?!? Could really use some guidance here! Happy Thanksgiving All!!
  6. I was out running my VR83 and stopped for ice cream,When I came out I noticed an oil leak under my bike.My bike never leaked anything.I did not think about it untill I got home.As soon as I turned it off,oil poured out from the middle of the kick stand area.It stopped after a few secs.I started it and it did not leak at all.Turned it off and leaked repeated its self.I have not investigated yet.Does anyone have any ideas where I should be looking? Thanks all....Ray:confused:
  7. New RSV (1999) owner as of this past Friday. Took it out for a good 500+ mile trip over the weekend to shake it down and honestly only found one thing that has me bothered and confused at the same time. Well two really, the other is an oil leak but its manageable. In the morning when I go out to start I see coolant on the ground, but it looks to be coming from behind the cylinder. This is on the left side of the engine. The coolant will leak more heavily right after I start it but then as the motor warms up I can see it stop. I di not believe it stops entirely as I can see some fluid on the pipe after a long drive. I am supplying some pics, if anybody has any thoughts or can forward me to a thread that I missed in a search I would appreciate it. Awesome site BTW, very helpful http://www.webtrendsguy.com/images/rsv/rsv3.jpg http://www.webtrendsguy.com/images/rsv/rsv4.jpg http://www.webtrendsguy.com/images/rsv/rsv5.jpg Thanks, love the bike! http://www.webtrendsguy.com/images/rsv/rsv2.jpg
  8. Their is a cover, mid-cylinder, with a phillips screw (seemingly) holding it. I have a flow of oil coming from bottom right side of it. What is this cover? Any thoughts on the leak?
  9. Ok all, I need your help. I'm looking for every possible failure mode that would cause fuel to leak out of the overflow on the carbs. After rebuild install, carbs were leaking out of number 1. Then taking it off and checking everything out we put it back together. Number 1 no longer leaked but no. 3 & 4 did. Very frustrating. It appeared to happen after some problems with the throttle cable, where we removed the carbs again and turned them upside down to keep the cable attached to the carbs. Not sure that putting them upside caused it but the timing is there. Background; 1987 Royale, 8900 miles. Carbs were rebuilt by a trusted V-max guy. The bike has been synced and runs great except for the gas leak. The tank has been lined (Red) new fuel filter, new air filter, new spark plugs. The carbs didn't originally leak when first installed. So looking for input on all possible causes of the leak. Also, would carbs leak more or less during regular idle? Thanks in advance, Bill
  10. I have a 2007 Royal Star Tour Deluxe. I had a rear flat and had to have the tire replaced last week. Drove it twice and now have oil/grease leaking all over my garage. It seems to be coming out between the wheel and the shaft drive. Anybody have any idea what it might be..didn't have a single leak of any kind until this guy changed my tire. Is this something I can possibly fix..shop here wants $100 just to take a look at it and then will charge from there! Thanks

  12. After reading the threads this winter I found mention of an exhaust leak at the Y. I got my bike out of storage yesterday and sure enough I have the same leak on both sides. I am taking my bike to the dealer next week and will ask them to replace the exhaust under warranty. I see a number of members have had the exhaust replaced under warranty. I was wondering if anyone has not been able to get this fixed under warranty? If I can't get this replaced under warranty, I will plug the leaks with JB Weld. I see a few members have gone this route. Does anyone know how the JB Weld fix has held up? Also, what are side effects of having the leak?
  13. Everyone, first I'm new to the forum! I just bought a 96 Royal Star a few months back. I have loved the bike, but have one problem that has come up. The needle in the carbs were sticking and I was losing fuel so I gave them a good seafoam bath (thanks for everyone that posted this tip in previous posts). That stopped the leak, but now the engine seems to be lugging, it is especially noticeable in 4th and 5th gears, is there anything that I should try. I did replace the spark plugs about three days before the carbs decided to gum up. Thanks for all of the help!
  14. Actually it just stopped working... gradually. So I knew it had a leak. Took it over to the Firestone Store to have it charged. They reported two leaks. One in the Compressor and one of the valves. To fix it?? A grand. I don't think so.... Went to another repair shop recommended by my son-in-law. He said they all leak a little, charged it up, and replaced one schraeder. $60 bucks total. Firestone has lost any of my future business..... Should I stop by and tell 'm where to stick it....??
  15. OK, this could be something that I did but I'll put as much information in here as possible. I have a coolant leak, usually after riding the bike and it gets hot, looks like it is coming from the right side (looking forward of the radiator). I'm having some trouble tracking the leak down. The radiator itself always stays completly full. In fact if the bike is cold and I remove the cap fluid will come out. The temp when riding always stays right in the middle of the green after it warms up. The overflow tank is empty, and I just filled it to the proper level a few weeks ago after I changed the radiator fluid. There was a slow leak from the drain plug but I replaced the gasket under that and it isn't coming from there. The puddle is a little forward and left of where that puddle was! Both ends of the overflow tank hose are connected (assuming it connects right under the cap of the radiator), so it isn't disconnected. Here are the items I think may be an issue, I was wondering if I could get some help on where to start looking. - Overflow tank hose has a crack. - Overflow tank itself has a crack. - When I changed the coolant I wasn't exactly sure if the knob you turn (I believe they called it a drain diverter or something) got put back in the correct spot. I couldn't find the writing they talked about. Not sure if this would cause a leak. Thanks for any help you can give. Let me know if you need some pictures I can go snap some. I'm trying to get everything buttoned up as best I can before our first trip on the bike this weekend.
  16. G'day V Riders I rebuilt my front forks, now the antidive units both leak ! I replaced the "O" rings thinking that might be the problem, but no, it's the antidive units themselves. I read that they can't be repaired and Yamaha have discontinued the part so I've bought another pair on ebay hoping that they will be better than mine. If they leak too, I'm thinking of removing them completely and blocking off the holes with a plate. I have fitted progressive springs. How will this affect the ride ? Jim O'D.........
  17. > I developed a slow leak in my front Avon Tire this Spring and have been adding some air about once a week. This past week I had my local dealer replace my rear tire and had him take a look into my front tire leak, what he found was a white corosion on my rims, he polished them out with a rotary wire brush and that seems to have taken care of my leak. I was sold on the Ride On Tire Sealant untill now, but I am not planning on putting it back in my tires because of the corosion problems. I was wondering if any other members are having the same problem........Jack " Keep The Shinny Side Up and the Rubber Side Down....."
  18. I have gas leaking from hose near ground under seat but only when bike sits in hot sun? I know the standard answer is stuck float but I put bike in shade or garage and no leak?? Any ideas?
  19. I went back to stock exhaust, unfortunatley one of the muffler gaskets is leaking and I have a trip coming up and might not have time to get a replacement shipped. my question is: I cant hear the leak but I can feel it. will i damage anything by riding anyway. thanks for the help
  20. Carburetor fuel leak. I have an intermittent or random fuel leak (R/S) from carburetor, #3 or #4 air vent hose on a 2006 Yamaha RSTD. Sometimes I can ride for 50 miles before it leaks and other time less than 7 miles. I have tried a can of Sea Foam without success. At idle there has never been a fuel leak problem… only occurs at road speed. The Yamaha owner’s manual indicates the carbs are Mikuni type BDSR32 X4. I have been unable to locate any information on these units on the Internet. What do these numbers mean and how do I find out the type of carburetors I have on this motorcycle. Any suggestions to solve this “nagging” fuel leak problem without removing the carburetors (a last resort) would be appreciated. Thanks – 2 Flights
  21. My seals are leaking now and I'm bottoming out easily. I don't have any new springs or seals to put in and I'm just not wanting to miss a sunny day My seals are leaking now and I'm bottoming out easily. I don't have any new springs or seals to put in and I'm just not wanting to miss a sunny day on the road. Today I will add oil to the front tubes but I was wondering....can a person put some Power Steering Stop Leak in the tubes to help the seals? (I did try the trick of lifting the dust cover and running a bead on top of the seal. This helped a little. Did not last long though.) What if any effect would this thickener/stop leak have on the performance/operation of the tubes?
  22. When I pull in clutch on my new to me 86 it wants to rev and then drop back down. It will go up about 1k quickly and then drop back down but not as fast as it should. Hasn't been wanting to idle. Have to choke it to keep it running most of the time. Thought I just had some crud in it. Don't think this is related to reving. Sea-foam and it will idle now most of the time when it is warmed up. Sound like vacum leak? I couldn't find one but didn't spend lot of time looking was busy putting back shifter that fell off.
  23. I just got my bike back from Schraders Yamaha in Yorkton SK, and Ive had a chance to put a couple of hundred Kms on it in the last few days and its so nice to have no oil leaks! As some of you are aware ive been battling an oil leak or 2 for a couple of years now. Ive tried to get to the bottom of it, but could never seem to get it figured out. I managed to get the leak from the oil level sensor fixed, and was still leaking a bit out of the gear indicator switch (it was cracked) and the biggest leak was the infamous stator wire grommet issue. I was having trouble to find anyone to work on my G1 that wasnt a hack locally, so did a lot of checking and found that Schraders was highly recommended and the mechanic (his name is Harley beleive it or not) likes Ventures and knows them like the back of his hand. While it was in for the oil leak Schraders asked if it was ok to do a free inspection on my bike, I gave the ok, and they found my brakes, need new pads, and a new air filter. I also had them do an oil change . They saved my old parts to show me that they really did need replacing as well. I have to say that Schraders was a pleasure to deal with, and I even found the bill reasonable for the work done, I thought that a 550 dollar bill for replacing a gear indicator, oil change, brake pads, air filter, and fix the stator wire oil leak was very fair. VERY pleasant people and welcoming, they are about a 2 hour drive from Regina but worth it to me. They also have a very nice 09 RSV sitting in the show room that could be had for a good price according to the service desk guys. the sticker on it was 19k cdn, they figured I should be able to get 4k on a trade in with my bike, but i like my G1 so why change now!! After dealing with them I can see why they are Saskatchewans largest powersport dealer, it was an all around good experience. Brian:banana:
  24. On my '86 VR, I've got a drip coming from the drain valve plug under the center of the radiator. Are there o-rings in there that could be replaced, or should I try to find a new plug? Any ideas? Thanks.
  25. I have posted about this problem but I'd like your opinion. I have a gas leak. It appears to originate on the right rear carb area. The gas runs down the rear cylinder wall onto the crankcase breather. It leaks less than a teaspoon. A full tank of gas makes the leak worse and the leak disappears when the gas tank is at about 20%. Recently I changed the plugs, all were very good except for the right front cylinder which was gas fouled. Don't know if that's related to the leak. I took it in earlier to a mechanic for this issue and got it back with new jets, one was definitely corroded green, so it wasn't a complete waste. I took it to the same mechanic who says it is the needle valve/pin stuck. I looked around and found one reference to the needle valve sensitivity to alcohol and having the valve switched to stainless. Do you think he's right? I don't have much confidence in this guy because he didn't fix it the first time. The nearest certified Yamaha mechanic is 70 miles away. I should just bite the bullet and take it apart my self, but having never done it before I am not 100% confident.
