  1. ... and need some ideas on what I could do. I believe the console is from an MKII and the Venture Cruise light is in the tach on my installed console. Why would I want to change tachs? Well, my installed speedo is irrepairable and need to replace it with the one I got from Poledar. The guage colors are different between both consoles (Poledars looks better too). So to match the guages, I would need to replace all the guages. Now since the Venture Cruise light location will need to be moved, will I need to add that center console (between the handlebars)? Will the current wiring on my 85 work with the center console? I do not even know what is on the center console as lights. So, what can I do y'all? Btw, Poledar is a great person to work with. Gotta give him some kuddos as he has been great with me. Thanks,
  2. Hope for info. My 05 is yet to have the trunck top rack or the rear factory available spoiler with tail light. Can both these go on ? or if one is installed, you can't put the other on? My concern is safety and being seen at night. Comments?
  3. Well after 9 weeks my now clearview shield came in today. I bought the Med. 3" shorter then stock. I took it out of the box and it is a bet shorter then I thought it would be. It is hard to tell until I get it installed hope it not to short .Now for my question, there was 2 small pieces of rubber about 3" long could anyone tell me where these go? I think it may be on the short lip that is on each side of the shield but not sure. has anyone installed on on there bike lately? :7_6_3[1]::7_6_3[1]:
  4. Installed new windshield what you think? Joe
  5. Not aliens, not the in-laws,........my new Avon Venom:thumbsup: tires, will be taking it in for its regular checkup and have the tires installed, cant wait to get it back and feel the difference in handling...........
  6. I guess this is my first real post since joining a few weeks ago. I finally found and bought an '07 Venture this past Sunday. I also have a Road Star that I know pretty well now since I luv to tinker. FYI, I'm coming from having nothing but H-D's for the last 32 years. Here is my problem. (Or not, may be normal for this bike) I have noticed in a lean that there is a sort of grinding noise (guess I feel it more than hear it) that gets more pronounced as you lean more. There is hardly any noise when riding straight up. The PO gave me a new tire for the front that I had installed and now it's less noticeable but still there. The guy that installed the tire said the bearings felt ok. Any ideas?
  7. Thanks to Edsets and Don for getting us a great deal. When we got the 04 earlier this year it came with two Tour Com helmets with J&M's installed. We tried them, Wrong size, not impressed with helmet, not impressed with sound quality. Installed the new Edsets in our Shoei RJ helmets last week, (the install was easy and looks great) and tried them out yesterday, awesome! One quirk that our 2nd gen audio systems seem to have is the open intercom. I had always assumed that the front and rear talk button was for the intercom and the CB. I guess it's only for the CB. The Edsets sounded great until we started to ride. then they got noisy and really crappy sounding. Figured out real quick that you need to turn the IC volume down to "0" to enjoy the music. Am I missing something here or does the Wife need to thump me on the head to signal me to turn the IC volume up so she can tell me to slow down:confused24:
  8. I got a set of IMC motorcom HS-G15's headsets and I am not able the the driver from the passenger helmet. One speaker, from the passenger connection, is not getting sound either. I think the when the passenger speaks, it is supposed to cancel something, I dunno. I have new J&M cables from the tuner installed as well. What am I missing? Remember the 85's do not have a passenger controller. I have replaced the radio and cassette player on this but not the tuner or anything else.
  9. I have noticed the Saddle bags get really hot due to being close to the pipes. If I were to go to the grocery and get anything cold or produce, it would heat it up if I left it there very long. Has any one installed heat shields under their bags or any mods to fix this? I was even thinking of venting the bags along with a heat shield of somekind.
  10. Has anyone installed a curved license plate holder on a RSTD? I saw a 2006 with one installed on it but I'm not sure of the correct Kuryakyn number. KY-9198?? Sorry if there's already a thread on this... I couldn't find one using the search engine....
  11. Got my Works Performance Shock This AM and Installed it.A BIG Thank You to Ponch for letting me question him on the installation. Yamaha paid for 338.95 of it and I footed the rest of the bill and installed it. It took about 2 hours as I kept screwing up and could not get the bolt in but working with the jack and feeding the bolt at the same time I got it. ALSO A Big THANK YOU to Rick at Buckeye Performance for his help in getting it in just a little over 2 weeks.he was VERY courteous and I appreciate him putting up with me! Initial Eval is I like it ALOT,Have a few minor adjustments and it will be perfect. Again,Thanks Ponch and RickH. Tom
  12. I did the air intake mod and installed K&N filters on my 07 RSV. How often do they need to be cleaned and re-oiled? I installed them at 1K and now have 11K on the bike. Cheers, Leonard
  13. I finally got around to hauling something on the back of my old Cab Over besides a bike. I've been selling off a few of my projects that never got off the ground and delivered one of them today. It's a '55 Chev pickup. The guy I bought it from years ago had installed an earlier style ('48 -'53) grill and included the older style box with it. That's why there is another box sitting on top of the stock one.
  14. Hey All I was looking at the Diamond R Saddle bag light bar for my 06 RSTD.. Has anyone installed these lights and if so, whats your take on them ? THanks
  15. After suffering from the "ice pick between the shoulders" feeling on long rides I installed the Barons risers. They helped somewhat but didn't fully solve the problem. I just finished installing the Flanders bars, ss brake lines and throttle cables from Buckeye Performance. I also installed Kuryakyn Iso grips and put in a Sirius Sportster 4 satellite radio while I had the fairing split. I havent had a chance to go on a ride yet so I'll keep yall posted as far as the comfort level is concerned. The install went well and though it was a good bit of work, anyone with a reasonable level of mechanical ability should be able to do it without a problem. I will say that Rick at Buckeye performance is a pleasure to do business with and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to do this upgrade.-Jack
  16. OK folks...I guess I'll upgrade the software here early next week. I will be going to PA on Monday and after I get checked into the hotel on Monday night, I will probably do it then. That is assuming that I get a good Internet connection at the hotel. This is a fairly major upgrade and will require that I shut down the forum for long enough to get the main scripts installed. If everything goes right, the site shouldn't be down for more than 15 minutes. I PROMISE to do a very good backup before starting. Once I have the major scripts installed, I can turn the forum back on and it will be functional but some of my customizations here will be missing until I get them all working again. There are a lot of changes in the programming and I am afraid that many of my customizations will not work without some major modifications to them. I really won't know what will work and what don't until I get started. So, you have been warned. I promise to keep the downtime as short as possible. Though I don't suspect any major problems with getting it installed and operational again, I expect a couple or more very late nights before I get things the way they are again.

    Baron 4-2-4 slip ons!

Hey Beer......I have my exhausts installed!! They are good uns!! My remaining Chirp is fully cured!! I received the brackets yesterday and late last night installed them. Do you know you can set off a car alarm with them lol!! I revved them up in the garage and the alarm went off in my jeep! It was dark and cold so I only rode the bike about five miles to check them out.......so far no noticeable difference in the bikes performance and there is a small pop from the AIS......will have to take them for a ride and down shift in a hard turn to see if this is going to require plugging the AIS. Hey you better get a wireless radio headset if you like music lol! I love them myself, has cured my chirp!! Kit
  18. Installed a set of bubs last night. Now the question is should I rejet the carbs. A friend told me to run it 100 miles at Highway speeds and then look at the plugs, if their white in color it means she's running lean and I should rejet, if not should be OK. What do you think about that? And has anyone put on bubs and not rejetted and had zero problems?
  19. Hi all just installed the arm rests that I made for my ride. What do you think? Chuck http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh64/slowrollwv/2007_0408armrests0004.jpg

    Big Rear

A lot of tire talk lately but have not heard anything about rear tires. I was wondering if anyone has put a 170/80/15 or 180/70/15 on. I'm interested but the clearance is so close to driveshaft on stock size I wonder how they will fit? I have read a number of people have installed the 170's and more interesting Metzler shows the stage 1 upgrade for the RSV to the 180's. My main interest to change is to get whitewalls other then Dunlop 404's. They claim better mileage, smoother ride and handling.

    Trailer D-Ring

I'm picking up my '07 Royal Venture Wednesday and I'm getting my trailer ready. I've got the wheel chock and front D-rings installed. Can anyone tell me how far back do I install the back D-rings? Thanks.
  22. I have looked around and have not seen a specific write-up for the install of heated grips for the RSTD. So I thought that I would take a crack at writing something up based on my recent experience. The first thing that I did in preparation for this install was wire up a relay and terminal strip that I could use for power. I wanted power not just for this install but for future electrical accessories (lights, GPS, and communication system). I found great set of instructions for this at the Canyon Chasers site. Attached is a picture of how I installed mine under the seat (Relay.pdf). I tapped into an unused accessory plug that I assume is a leftover from the Venture wire harness. I tried to find something smaller than the terminal strip I used for distribution but it was inexpensive and it works. I have been unable to find the jumpers to energize the next terminal so I just made my own. I decided to retain the stock grips and install heaters from Dualstar. The price was a bargain (29.95 plus shipping) when comparing different heated grip systems. I struggled for a long time with where to install a switch. I didn’t want to spend much money on anything fancy, I didn’t want any bulky box or pod for switches and the RSTD doesn’t provide too many spaces to stick anything. I wanted something that was inconspicuous and settled on placing it in the plastic cover that conceals the frame and wiring that runs to the forks (Switch.pdf). I may regret this location because it isn’t easy to reach but I think the grips will be something I will not need to be flipping on and off frequently. If I am wrong with this location it will be easy enough to conceal and move on to something better when it comes to mind. The next challenge was getting the grips off. I took the counter weights off without a problem and used a small screwdriver and popsicle stick to pry loose the glue from the grips and worked them off. The next big surprise was the ridges on the throttle tube. I wasn’t expecting this and you must apply the heater to a smooth surface. With a lot of patience, a utility knife and a dremel I removed them and installed the heater element. The clutch side heater is about as simple as putting on a piece of tape and routing the wire down the bars. I did use the dremel to rework the chrome colar that goes with the grip to get a snug fit around the wires. I tested everything at this point and it was then that I ran into a snag. I had a short in the system. I called Dualstar. They helped me diagnose that the problem was on the clutch side and they sent a new one right away. They said they test every unit before it ships but I couldn’t see where I could have crimped or nicked anything thing to caused the problem. Regardless they took care of me. Moving on to terminating the wiring and powering things up… I had ran my power and ground from my terminal strip up under the tank to the switch and into the area under the chrome cowling that covers the speedometer display unit. Special Note: Removing that chrome cowling was a royal pain. It was held in place by three Philips screws that were installed with loctite and one head completely stripped out. Thanks heaven it was one on the out side, they are almost accessible. Had the center screw striped out I would still be standing in the garage swearing to myself wondering how to get it out. Needless to say I replaced the screws with Allen head bolts(Cowling.pdf). I soldered all my connections and put them in shrink-wrap tubing to keep things protected from vibration and the elements. The bundle of wires tucked up under the cowling neatly. I put things back they way they were and now I am waiting for the snow to melt and I can actually go for a ride. The heaters work great in the garage but I guess the big test will be in a few weeks when I can get out and go for a ride and see if they overcome the wind chill that my hands feel sticking outside the protection offered by the windscreen. Hope this helps any of you considering the install.
  23. It took most of my Sat - now its done I took video/audio but cannot attach here - anyone know how to do that?
  24. The time to replace the tires on my bike is drawing near. I have decided to use avons. I have installed the leveling links on my bike. Should I use the 130/80/16 front or use the 150/80/16? The bike handles great now with the links. Would the bike handle any better with the 130 installed. Any advise would be appreciated. Dan
  25. I cannot seem to find any postings that show the size and type of Avon Venoms for an '07 RSV. I want to put these on the bikes at the same time I have the Baron Bars and the Rivco LED lights installed. Appreciate any help.
