  1. Bike has 6000 miles on it and just yesterday I began having probs with the cruise control. It'll turn on, but when I set it, it will hold momemtarily then kick off. I tried it a few different times, sometimes it would engage after a couple of tries, but it'd only hold a minute or so before kicking back off. I know it's supposed to be under warrenty, but if I could fix it myself I'd rather do that. I hate letting people work on my stuff. Any ideas? tks in advance!
  2. kenw

    Heehaw!!!

After about 3 months with a bad back, the therapy finally kicked in good enough to see if I could hold the bike up! I can, The weather is great, and I'm finally on the road (sort of)! Life is Good!!!
  3. Been chasing a coolant leak from the rear left hand cyl its been droping down and sitting on the rubber cover for the clutch bleed screw.Today i decided to remove the false air fin on that side to see if i could find where it was coming from, just below the 3 holes that hold the fins in place is a 4th threaded hole that was wet around it wiped clean and dry thought i should go for a quick blast to be sure thats the correct leak.I anly got a Klm from home and coolant was pissing out got home asap. Found out that this is a welsh plug of some sort it and it blew out under pressure must screw in and snap off under tension i imagine. Two things lernt today 1/ Yamaha parts are really expensive $55 for the plug 2/ Dont ride your bike with the false fins off as they are designed to hold this plug in place More money more dramas just love it but would rather be riding
  4. i've been on here for over 2 yrs now and see all the tire questions but havnt seen or missed this one, most tell their dislike for bridgestone but never state why they dislike them, they came on my 2010 rsv and even tho i've only gotten 350 miles thus far they seem to hold the road well anddont follow road smakes as bas as the 404's do just wondered what it as about them we dislike thanks steve
  5. First I need to say that I had the clutch slippage issue in 4th and 5th. Also on a slight uphill grade, I could not hold 5th gear at 50 mph. It would shudder and buck causing to me to downshift. I orderes his clutch spring upgrade. WOW! This thing should be listed under performance upgrades! I feel like I have more power than before. I can even hold 5th gear on the same grade and accelerate! It is almost like a brand new bike. If you haven't done this yet, do it! Best purchase I've made yet! Just for giggles, Mine is a 97 RSTC with 63,XXX on the odometer. Second owner and was prob not taken care of to well by the PO. Thanks Skydoc_17!
  6. I just stumbled on this website and knowing that we are an "older" group of riders I thought it may be of some interest to some of the members that may be starting to have an issue pulling or holding the clutch lever. http://www.efmautoclutch.com/ It isn't inexpensive but they build two clutches; one that has NO pull pressure on the lever and one that you don't use the lever at all. And they hold much better than stock. They have a few videos on the site showing how well it works. Just thought it may help keep someone riding a few years longer!
  7. This is a Gift from Gunboat to Squidly aka CupCake....I was just wrangled into help hold it...honest..
  8. Wondering if I should get a new seat...Since I've only had my '06 RSV for a few weeks, I'm still slowly going over it and "fixing" it up. I had the driver seat off the other day and noticed 2 things. 1) there is a small (less than an inch) rip or cut in the side of the seat (can't really see it unless you are looking). 2) one of the 2 bolts that hold the seat on is missing. PO had used a sheetrock screw to hold that side on... I'm going to be sending the seat in to the member on this site that does the seat mods for lowering/narrowing anyway...so I'm not sure if the bolt can be fixed at that time or if the rip will prevent the cover from being restretched...Been spending money already getting a few "extras" for the bike so hate have to buy a new seat if I don't need to. Anyone got a stock seat collecting dust they need to get rid of? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Brrrrrrrrr! Just checked the thermometer. IT'S ZERO (= 32 F) outside!  I just bought the insulation and wall covering for the garage so guess what I'm doing tomorrow? I don't want to take on stripping and working on the blonde beast when the wrenches are so cold you can't even hold on to them! I envy you southern folk....you can ride all year, don't have to pay for furnace oil or snow tires, and never have to shovel 10 inches of "partly cloudy" ......what can I say..... I don't want it to be winter!!!!
  10. Well I was wondering if anyone who sent in the rebate has received the MasterCard gift card back from Avon yet. Sent mine in well before the deadline and havent seen a thing from them. I even called and left message and nothing so far. I thought I would check and see if anyone has received theirs yet. And as a side note, when I called I ended up getting a hold of Mickey Thompson Tires. Guess they are associated with Avon now. Thanks Rick F.
  11. I'm looking for ideas how to hold down a cooler on my Piggy Trailer. I had a cover made for it and it will have a zipper around the top so I can have access. I don't want to put straps on the outside of the cover or a net.....but that maybe the most logical idea? Will I be taking it off and on the rack....prob not. So people what ideas have ya got ????? Thanks Keith
  12. I am trying to install the two moles on top and bottom of the front chrome windshield trim. Has anyone come up with a good adhesive to hold these in place?
  13. At a distance I noticed this Black Mustang . Got up to it it and noticed it was a Trailer Its doesnt hold much a Kooltron and 2 folding chairs
  14. I have a question on what to do with the saddle bags when they are off the bike. This stems from one of my bags flopping over and scratching the lid when I opened it. It slid on the cardboard I put down to prevent this very thing from happening. In any Case I think I saw a post with a PVC rack to hold the bags but I am unable to find the post. What is the consensus on what to do with the bags when you take them off the bike. I have been putting them in the living room on the carpeting but it would be nice to have some sort of rack to hold them. David

    Iso Grips?

Changed to the Iso grips, like the larger diameter. I read some of the previous threads aboue glue. I tried the dish soap, didn't hold. Tried black gasket sealer, that didn't hold. I'm reluctant to use the Iso grip glue and they say its PERMANANT. I want to take them off here shortly and modify them to put the factory weights back on. Any suggestions as to what glue will hold them from turning and still be able to remove them from the bars without ruining them?
  16. Howdy all, I am hoping someone know what to call the lower scoop looking thing under my radiator. I had one of the light fall off. The plastic retaingin ring broke off and the remaining light is going as well. I think this is an after market item. I don't know if the epoxy type adhesive would hold it back on or if I should go ahead and replace the lights. Maybe I will just take the thing off. Does it help direct air to the radiator? Thanks for the help Dave
  17. Looks like my two wheeled riding days may be over. I have had bad knees for a long time. It kept me out of the Military and Police Academy (thank the stars). Well, yesterday, while working for some extra scratch, I jumped out of the back of a Kawasaki Mule.... And I blew my right knee out. This is the worst I have had to deal with. I can't straighten out my leg, it locks up and is very very painful. I can't bare any weight on it, at all. If I do put weight on it, it bends sideways and well... I seem to find the ground pretty fast and stings of foul words boil out. I'm really freakin out. I won't be able to do all the things I love doing. Fishing, Hunting and most of all riding the scooter. Not sure what I am going to do for work... Everything I do involves walking I'm in the middle of getting my Bail Bonds License and even that requires walking... I'm going to hold onto the scooter till after the surgery to see if I can ride... Should be close to winter by then... Dammit. But, if I can't hold it up, I can't ride it. I better start reading about Trikes.
  18. Looking for a part for the rear turn signal light. It is number 11 in the picture below. It is a chrome piece and is needed to hold the eye brow on. Got one laying around? BOO
  19. I need to check the valves on my 2008 Venture. Does anyone know where I can find the tool that hold the bucket down to change the shims? Any help will be appreciated.
  20. Went riding today and made a left when I heard a scraping noise. I looked down and it looked like the kick stand was not up all the way. Pulled over, had my daughter steady the bike, so I could check it out, when I grabed on to the part you put your foot on to lower the stand, it snapped off in my hand! In order to put the stand down, I have to have someone hold the bike, so I can reach under the bike and pull the stand down. A buddy of mine said he could weld it back on, but I am wondering if it will hold. Any idea where I can get a replacement at a reasonable price?
  21. I have 2000 RSV. Tried out the cruise yesterday and when "cruise set" i locks the cruise at about 5 mph slower than what I'm traveling. Then I have to press accel to get up to speed. Then it will only hold that speed for 1/2 mile or so and start slowing down. I can keep pressing accel up but bike won't hold speed on it's own. I this something I can look at fixing myself? or do I need to bring it in?
  22. At what speed can you set your cruise and make it hold? On my MM I have set it at 84mph even though it is not suppose to set above 80mph. However on my 2001 I can't set it above about 60 or 65 and have it hold. A friend (SteveW) says that his is the same way but he can bump it you to about 75 mph after he sets it at 60 and bumps it up. I have not tried this but I will. So let me know how your cruise works and at what speeds. Canu you set it at 80 or do you have to set it at a lower speed and bump it up? Harry
  23. Come on Bob it's Friday and I think it's the day your supose to pick up that new trike. Don't hold back from us. Pict's and more pict's or it never happended.
  24. I've been doing a lot of tear down and maintenance on my new-to-me 1997 RSTC. The more I think about it, the more I could see the Harbor Freight Motorcycle Stand/Wheel Chock coming in very handy. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=97841 I have a coupon that has it at $39 and was wondering if anyone has one, or has any comments. The spec is that it will hold a tire from 15 to 22 inches, but doesn't sate a maximum width, and we do have very wide front tires. Is this sturdy enough to hold up an 800 lb RSTD?
  25. I sometime get tired of how quickly the trunk becomes a mess on a trip. Last year at the Roundup in Cody, Iowawegian (Gary and Deb) had some pouches in the trunk that allowed them to keep things where they could get them easily. I liked that!! I've been looking online for something that would go in my '86, with no luck. So, last night I decided to do something..... I took a piece of Lexan I had in the garage and cut two pieces to fit the width, height and curvature of the trunk bottom. I used adding machine tape rolls as spacers and with four bolts to hold it together. A little stick on velcro to hold it in place to the rear of the trunk but still allow it to be removed. (I was going to install only the rolls as spacers but Jan reminded me of how often we or someone asks if someone has a piece of paper and pen, so I left it on to use up on the road) This isn't everything I would want but in the mean time it creates two pockets in the back corners and three more between the plastic to help hold things in place and there is still room for my helmet inside. http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/86%20Venture%20Rt%20Faring/?action=view&current=IMG_0684.jpghttp://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/86%20Venture%20Rt%20Faring/IMG_0684.jpg Dave
