1. NewEnough has just put the JOe Rocket leather michael Jordan Jacket with the armor on sale for 179 bucks with sizes up to 60. This is a good deal for us big guys as its hard to find big sizes plus they just never go on sale for us. I dont think they will last long regular price is 499. Here is the link http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/leather_suits_jackets_and_pants/joe_rocket/michael_jordan_2k7_team_replica_leather_motorcycle_jacket.html
2. Don't know what the lights look like inside. Are they just bulbs? If so, anyone think about tinkering with them enough to figure out how to wire led's instead? In bright daylight, sometimes the lights are hard to see. These would be like the neutral, O/d, etc...what I call jewel lights. If they are bulbs, I would think led's would be much brighter.
3. yeap, Winter has arrived. Maybe not for some of you yet, or perhaps never for others, all depends on where you live I guess, however, it has arrived for me. I was on the way to Renton WA with my big rig , driving thru Billings Montana ,when I got the supprise visit of a foot of snow. I don't scare easily but I knew this was nothing to fool around with. Blowing snow (30 mile an hr winds), made it very hard to see anything. I'm happy to report that I made my destination. Just not looking forward to my return trip to Minneapolis, which brings me right back through that mess. Well, to all of you, STAY WARM, BUNDLE UP, WINTER IS HERE!!!
4. While I am waiting on my new tires to get here I decided to go try some of the techniques in "Ride Like a Pro V". Well I certainly found out that I am nowhere near as good hauling this big gen1 around as I am an XR400! I also found out the hard way that I needed the first thing taught in the video....how to get your bike back upright! One of the things that is stressed in the video is to practice in a controlled setting so you don't have to learn things the hard way, in an uncontrolled setting! I'm glad my spill happened in a parking lot, and not on the road! I scraped up a bag protector and ended up with a stubbed middle toe, but other than that me and the bike are both ok. The little women in those videos sure make things look easy. It is amazing at how agile they are on these huge bikes! The one thing they have done to get their skills to where they are is to practice. I obviously have a lot more practice to do before I can even get close to their skill level, and before I let my wife on the back of the bike. I will also plan on practicing the skills taught in the video with her on the back. I've already got 4 fused vertebrae from being foolish. I don't want to add any more battle scars to my collection or start a collection for her! I'm glad that I've found this site, everyone has been very helpful. I will follow and learn from others, and help out when I can. The internet is such an amazing place, and I hope I will eventually get to meet many of you in person Also, now that I've had a chance to read more....I'm not sure if I really need a crotch rocket with suitcases, so I'll ride my mkII very reserved, and as much in control as I can get her. I appreciate all the camaraderie that I've observed at VR!
5. i was just wondering if anyone change out the cpu and added the 2nd hard drive? im looking at a upgrade
6. I've spent sever hours reading the forums now and there are so many references to the bike that I do not understand. I'm having a very difficult time figuring out which articles actually apply to my bike. I just bought a 1989 Venture Royale with ~30k miles. Now for the hard part..... Is this a gen 1, gen 2, gen 3 or what? What is an MK I and an MK II? As far as tires go this bike needs a set, or at least the rear. The front is slightly cupped, but has good tread. What are the recommendations for a new tire(s). There's a ton of information on the site, but man its hard to decipher it unless you have figured out who on here has which bike! Thanks for any responses, Chris
7. been having a lot of trouble hearing audio. due to outside noise and being hard of hearing. spent a fortune on helmet speakers amps, etc. finally found a cheap solution. got the premium sound on my wing and it is fine with the speakers until you hit wind. i bought the edsets, much better til you hit wind. went to radio shack and bought a set of sony earbuds. on sale for $29.95. then bought a 5 pin to 3.5 mm single pin adapter from cycle gadgets, and now have concert hall sound and sealed out road noise. my sirius radio has a whole new meaning. all i can say is awesome, try it if you are hearing impaired. bill
8. ...and it felt REALLY good!! Goldie is running great with the new plugs and wires, and we now have XM radio as well! My foot is still a little sore but nothing intolerable. The incision is almost completely healed over, just a little bit more to go. I have a hard time tolerating standing for any length of time but riding has no discomfort at all!! See you at Asheville!
9. I’ve been reading a lot about Progressive suspension and how good they are. Do they really make that much of a difference, and do I need them? I have done a search on this forum and can’t really find an answer. How do I tell if I need new springs, and I guess this would be the time to upgrade if required? Having only owned my VR for a few months it is hard to tell. I think my bike rides very nice, although I have nothing to compare it to. I’m hoping you can help enlighten me. I'm looking forward to any and all feedback on this topic.
10. Well I have to say I had a great time with great people . The Boys and Girls of the Kitchener area did a great job. I have to say I have never laughed so hard in ages ...thanks to Hal ...and yes you folks have to ask for pictures ...You'll know why I was laughing so dam hard. This is one for my favorite area's to ride in ...and if you didn't make it you missed out you missed out on some great riding and most of all the great people that show up at these meets. All I have to say is Thanks Reiny and Gang!!

I need to say "Thanks"

As I look back and remember what fun I had during our rally in Kitchener, it struck me that if I remember correctly......I made a booboo at our Wednesday night wrap-up dinner. I was thrown off my game after seeing Satan and Tinkerbell ( can you blame me? ) and the speech and thank-yous that I had prepared in my head that day all suddenly left me. Anyway....I know I asked "my crew"..."my posse"...."me peeps" to stand and be recognized but I think I neglected to actually introduce them by name, and for that I apologize and am sorry. As I said before, this event could not have happened without their hard work and so please forgive me for being so late with this. The committee that worked hard to make the 2008 International VentureRider Rally in Kitchener the event that it was, consisted of: Hal Lackenbauer - a.k.a. HALRSV99 and his lovely wife Gayle Al Johnson - a.k.a. King of Squirrels Carl Norg - a.k.a. Marcarl and his lovely wife Marca Wayne Higson - a.k.a Wizard 765 and his lovely wife Robin Darryl Barnes - a.k.a. Brick and his lovely wife Rhonda Dave - a.k.a. Swifty Brad Tuckett - a.k.a. BradT and his lovely wife, Rhona Tucket - a.k.a NaughT :clap2::clap2: Thank you all for your hard work.....and I apologize if I was a bit "testy" at times during our preparation.
12. Has anyone tired to repair one of these? Unfortunatly, there seems to be a break in one of the wires about on inch from the female connector, and it looks like I will have to make a repair. Are they hard to work on?
13. goldwing 1800 armrest on the venture? I seen a pair on and they look awsome. If so was it hard to do,any suggestions? thanks joe
14. :173:May not be the right place to post this but I have to tell someone since the emails were already sent out by my wife to tell everyone else about it! We welcomed our first grandson into this world yesterday at 4:30 P.M. Seven pounds and four ounces and twenty inches long. Mom and baby are both doing great and ready to go home already. Its hard to believe that I am actually a grandpa at 42 years old but I wouldnt trade this feeling for anything in the world! Looks like I may have to ride all alone for awhile since grandma wont leave the baby for anything.
15. Good jobs use to be hard to find in WV. Now it's hard to find good people. A friend of mine said yesterday 25 people applied for jobs with his department. All 25 failed 1 or more of the first 3 requirements for hire. 1. Do you have a valid drivers licensee. 2. Can you pass a drug test ( been clean for 2 years). 3. Can you pass a criminal background check.
16. High all, I'm looking hard at a new 08 Charcoal/Silver Venture S. The out the door price is $15689.96. Is this a good price or do you think I can get the deal down some more? I don't want to push too hard cause I've only found two in the state and the same dealer has both. Any input is apprecieated.
17. I am considering this led brake/taillight but would like to replace the red cover with a clear one that will match the turn signals. I have searched but I am having a hard time finding a clear lens for my 05 RSV. Anyone know where I can find one?
18. This may be different for different size/strength/experienced riders, but unfortunately I found out tonight the hard way that my 260 lb son is too big. And for as big as he is, I'm only about 170, and pretty new to riding this big bike. Lesson learned the hard way. Once a week just the two of us go out to dinner together, and tonight on the way back home, we stopped at a stop sign, then as I started out, making a right turn, the Venture decided to go over, and as we all know, when it wants to go - it goes. The worst of it was that we curled around quite a bit and the fairing and right side fog lamps ended up against the stop sign pole. And what really surprised me was how much the right engine crash bar bent, and also how easy it was to bend back. I would have thought it would have had more strength than that. So the final tally is one bent fog lamp eyebrow, cracks in the headlight surround, some scrapes on the fairing above the headlight, a tiny scrape in the windshield trim, and some scuffs on the lower portion of the windshield. Also some minor scratches at the back of the right pipe and a scrape on the bottom of the saddlebag. She's not quite as pretty as she used to be, but it's nothing that will keep me off the road as I look for replacement parts, and somebody to repair the fairing. Oh, and most importantly, not a scratch on either my son or myself.
19. OK so since the weather has been crap here so far, the old gal hasn't been used much this year. In fact according to my gas log, I filled her up last A MONTH AGO! She has become a bit hard to start from cold of late: She doesn't seem to want any choke till she fires then likes about half way for about 3 or 4 mins, and then stumbles if I don't take the choke off but runs and idles fine so long as I do. The battery is brand new, and I have 4 guage battery & starter cables installed already. The starter clutch still needs replacement but is less of a problem since the new battery went in. It was approx 15 deg C last evening and 5 deg C this morning and she gave me exactly the same problems at both temperatures in her nice dry garage. Well I have ordered up 160ml SeaFoam / tank of fuel STAT, for the next few tanks. All good stuff, lots on hand. While riding along though, I thought perhaps I should splurge on some new plugs for the old gal too. Seems to me I have read here that there are some super platinum, forked electrode etc plugs that these bikes really like. Whats the consensus guys, what are the best plugs for these old bikes? What would make her real happy ? Thanks, Brian H.
20. The 83/84 I just picked up has a problem shifting. The arm connected to the thru-stator cover shaft just wants to spin. I'm not sure what the problem is but suspect it may be the arm on the other end either coming off by loosing the circlip, or the spline being striped out. I'm never been in this area and my question is, How hard is it to get up in there to check things out? Can it be done without having to drop the exhaust and collector?? The motor is running great. Purrs. Anyone been there...done that???
21. Is there any way to adjust the throttle tension? I don't know if it's gotten dirt in the cable or if something else is happening but it is getting worse. I've got a throttle rocker on it, but its getting so hard to turn it's not much help. Thanks.
22. Hey everyone I have a question. I pulled the bike out yesterday (87 Venture) as I hadnt had it out in 2 weeks. I washed it and then went for a little scoot. When I rolled it out of the garage I had a little trouble hitting neutral to fire it up. It was stiff and hard and and just kept going from first to second without hitting neutral. Finally found neutral and down the road I go. The gears were stiff and hard to shift, almost like the clutch wasnt in all the way. Had a problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd and then to 4th, almost had to do it a few times to get into the other gears. Downshifting was the same thing had to shift pretty hard and a few times to get it to want to downshift. The bike ran fine other than that and when it was out last 2 weeks ago it was perfect, and I did nothing to it other than wash it before I went for a ride yesterday. It was dark when I got home so I didnt even look at it I just pulled it in the garage and and parked it (the penguin game was on). I figured I would look at it today. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know where I should look first? Thanks, Paul
23. Well we got er done thanks to Larry (Carbon One) and Denden Check pic's out and see what ya think. I added Passing lamps, rear harley light, luggage rack, highway pegs and hard wired the GPS and XM radio and back rest and tank bib. Joe
24. Hello Everyone, I'm in need of your assistance again. Here is my problem: when I wash the bike it is always hard to start,if I let it set a while it will start. If I drive in heavy rain the bike has stalled out. When I let it set a while it will start and run fine. I have taken the TCI unit out cleaned the connectors and opened the cover letting it dry out, also used diaelectric grease on the connector. I have replaced the spark plug wires thinking that they mey be the problem but to no avail. I'm leaving on Friday for Myrtle Beach and the forecast is for rain. HELP!
25. Hello All. I just took delivery today on an '07 Venture with only 1462 miles. It had been laid down at slow speed. It was slow enough not to have broken the mirrors or scratched up the handlebars and yet low enough that it screwed up the right saddle bag and floor board and a few other cosmetic items. All fixed. It looks as good as new. I got a really good deal on it via eBay. So far, I've bought one other motorcycle, a car, truck and SUV this way and haven't been disappointed. Now to the possible problem. I found it was hard to get it to start and then it would not accept anything other than idle speed until the bike had warmed up to normal operating temperature. Even then it seems to have a bit of a hesitation upon acceleration. The gas has been in there since at least last November so that could be affecting things a bit. As soon as it stops raining and I get over the effects of the drugs I was given for a back procedure this afternoon, I'll take it to the service station and fill it up. Are the Ventures known for being cold natured? The temp is in the low 80's right now. The battery was completely dead and they told me they hadn't run it since back in October or November so it figures that the battery would have gone dead in that length of time. It charged right up with no problem in about an hour. Everything looks right on the bike and it sounds nice. It just seems like it needs to be up to normal temp in order to not die on me when the throttle is twisted more than about an eighth of a turn. I properly applied the choke to get it to crank and idle and backed it off after it got warmed up. My '99 Roadstar sure starts easier and runs better when cold than this thing does.
