  1. It looks like my speedometer finally gave up the ghost. Anyone know what speedometers are compatible with an 84? I find everything from 83 to 91 but no 84s. I figure it would be easier to replace the whole instrument console than the speedometer itself but wanted to make sure everything would play well together before I buy a part from a different year. Thanks.
  2. Anyone noticed that new members are welcomed in the "bug report" forum Maybe it's easier to bait them there:whistling:
  3. I was just wondering if anyone uses this backrest? I know most of you guys use the Utopia or the Diamond R. I am leaning toward the Diamond R or possibly this one as they seem to be easier to install. Also does the Diamond R come with the pillow top look? It would be nice if it matched my stock seats.....thanks. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=42&Category_ID=32&manufacturer_ID=6&product_ID=15939&related=short
  4. At work here I have a whole slew of pics from my trip 2 years ago that I'd love to share, but I can't figure out how to transfer pics here from anywhere else but Photobucket and it would take forever to transfer the pics from where they are to photobucket then here. Is there an easier way?
  5. Well last night I decided I wanted an electric fireplace. I don't have a heating system anymore here and it's been getting rough with the little electric ones I have at night. So I bought it and I'd have to pick it up in Suffolk at the Lowes. That was the closest one that still had any. So I leave after chatting with the muffinman and head up. Get the thing in the truck (took 3 guys to pick it up and put it in). Now I'm thinking wow I'm alone how am I gonna get this thing out of the truck. Being constructive I figured I get to that when I got home. So I get home pull the truck up to the porch and shove the box out of the bed onto the porch. So far so good. Now how do I get it in the house? Well I tried a few things and realized I wasn't getting the box in the house. I had even thought of hooking the dog up to it. Only problem would be getting it up off the porch into the door. Also the box was looking a bit wide to go through the door. So I decided go ahead and open the thing outside and get the parts in. Have you ever seen those industrial staples they use on these boxes. There's a line two each all the way across. Finally I get it open sort of then I got all this tape to get through. Once it's open it's way easier to get the parts out. There a bit heavy but way lighter then together in that box. Oh yeah the weight was about 104 I weigh just a little more then that. So now I got all these parts in the house to put together. I'll let you know how that goes. I'm thinking it's gotta be easier then getting it in the house was. Oh the fireplace is pretty big too. It's 42" high, 48.3" wide, and 14.5" deep. Now I gotta figure out where to put this thing. Guess I'll worry about that after I get it together. Margaret
  6. Hi Everyone, I finally figured out how to handle the situation with my missing/stolen body parts... I gave the bike to Squidley. Now, he needs some parts to get this thing road ready, and since he's done so much the past few years to help so many on this site, I think it's only right that we try to help him get it going. Many of you have already responded via private message with offers of parts and/or questions. I was going to try to do this on the sly, but reality has reared its head and my handling this thing would be a nightmare logistically. So, my newest brainchild is to just put out an open call for help as Squidley is at this moment in the frozen tundra of Michigan and he has a trailer with him. Therefore, if anyone has any of these parts, please let him know so that he can make arrangements to receive them. He is a bit shy about receiving help so ignore his "We're okay" BS and let him know what you got. It will be easier for all as he can make arrangements with the donors for the best way to get the parts. He needs a fairing (front and back), both right and left cowlings, and covers for the saddlebags and trunk. Oh yeah, and the passenger backrest. I'm sorry if I've embarrassed Squid with this notice, but like I said, he's helped so many of us and it's time for us to help him if we can. Happy New Year to you all. Be safe and warm! Chuck (Moose)
  7. I've seen several posts of the past months that folks don't know where the VentureRider Merchandise area of the forum is. It is just a topic area of the forum and can be found on the forum home page. There you will find information about shirts, caps, patches, decals, etc. I have added a link to the upper menu bar on the far right side. It says VRStore. Hopefully that will make it easier for folks to find.
  8. Hi, What do folks use to keep the visible portions of the first gen engine cases clean and presentable looking? I have cleaned mine on occasion but its a job I don't like much, so they get pretty dirty each time before I'll do it again. They are very grimey at the moment. Generally, I use soap and water and a tooth brush. I have used carb & brake parts spary cleaners but my conscience nags me about environmental issues. Is there an easier & safer way? Spray on, hose off & go for a ride is the kind of thing I had in mind. I don't think she'd like the pressuer washer though. What's the best way? Thanks, Brian H.
  9. I have drawn my wiring schematic into my CAD drafting program. Reason being I am adding cruise control from an 84. This will make it easier for me to do this. Attached is a PDF of schematic. I have tried to make it easier to read by adding some line types & colors so the wiring is easier to follow. There is a color code chart is at the lower left. I rearranged some of the components to eliminate wires crossing unnecessarily. The schematic is the same as the original in the 83-85 owners manual electrically, just rearranged. The only thing I am not sure about is the Diode pack, my bike only one diode in it. The block schematic shows three diodes in the circuit. The wiring schematic indicated two diodes. I did correct an error or two I found in the schematic, one being the ACC terminals in the fuse block. I would like to add the Ignition coil #'s if someone could furnish those also. I changed the graphics for the rear brake switch to match the front brake & clutch switches. It prints out best at 11" x 17" but few of you probably have a laser jet that size. Not to mention a color one. If anyone wants an 11 x 17 B&W copy, I will mail you one for the postage & envelope cost, probably a dollar. I am going to stop at Staples tonight and see if they can do color 11 x 17 prints if anyone is interested. I can get B&W prints up to 24" x 36". Dingy
  10. Robbie wants to thank everyone who ask about her tonight. She really wanted to be there at the HUB dinner. She just felt it would be better to rest longer. As she said it is easier to move in the camper right now. Thanks again.
  11. I just bought a TOM TOM RIDER 2nd EDITION. I bought the TOM TOM because I have one in my car and love it compared to my buddys GARMIN I found it more accurate, easier to use and easier to update. As well their tech support has been great. Everything works great on it except on a SUNNY DAY I cannot see the screen. Is this common for all Motorcycle GPS's ??? or is it just a TOM TOM Issue.
  12. I've been thinking about MD this year. Last year Don and Eileen ordered food for the whole gang that came. I know they had the jar out and I think Don said it came out even for him. But since he's going through this treatment for cancer I have been thinking maybe we can take care of the food this year. All of us can pay so much towards the food and then Don won't have to worry about it. If need be one of us can take care of ordering the food for the day. I'm just thinking of how to make this an easier event for the Boss and his wife. I knew Don wouldn't cancel MD unless he really had to. So I waited and I've talked with a couple of other folks on the site about this. Not sure how we can make it easier for Don but I'm sure with this group we can come up with a plan that will work. I haven't asked Don before I started this thread. Maybe I should have, but knowing Don he'd have said not to worry about it. We could even just all go out to eat though that might get a bit crazy with the size group we'll be having. So let me know what you think folks. I'm hoping not to make anyone mad just trying to find a way to make it easier for Don and Eileen. Margaret
  13. I notice that some have a hard time finding some maintenance items we need for our bikes... OR some are marked up so high that we don't WANT to get them from Yamaha. I've worked in auto parts for the last 30 years so I used that experience to find a few alternatives. They are parts that will fit and are easier to find or they are less expensive than factory but they are all available at either Nissan,Toyota or Honda car dealers. It's only a few numbers now but if I find more I'll add to them. Parts List
  14. I have a 06 RSTD that is running a little funny and I want to get the Morgan Carbtune to Sync the carbs, Any help with what extras are needed?? Not a bad price this week so I want to move on it before the $ gets all wacked up... Also any links to make the job easier would help
  15. How about when you log in, a list or (probably shorter) a link to show a list of your friends for easier PMing. If this is already on here, I missed it. Bronson
  16. I just received a pair of Flanders bars and since I've never had the bars off I'd thought I would ask if there's any tricks that make changing them out easier, or anything I need to watch out for while changing them. TIA Jim T.
  17. got a question. i have a 50,000 btu salmander, and two kerosene heaters. i use k-1 kereosene in them. will diesel fuel work in place of kereosene? it's alot cheaper and easier to get. i use them in my garage, with ventilation.
  18. I just purchased a new Carbtune Pro from California Sport Touring for $99.00, plus shipping. I tried to find a good used one but was not lucky enough to find one. Any how...... I would once again like to thank the club members for the wonderful posts on how to use the Carbtune. In particular I would like to thank ROCKY your information was simple, easy to understand, and easier to do. My 1989 Venture Royale runs like new. Thanks again to all the great members on this site!!!!!! Steve
  19. I am brand new, and thanks to Lonestarmedic I have found a great group to talk about my project. I purchased a 87 VR in fair condition, (runs good, looks bad) but the prior owner tried to rewire the lighting and now nothing works, I have the tech manual on disk and all the wiring diagrams. The problem is that he cut and tried to splice everything instead of following where they went. Am I going to have to remove all tape from everything and trace from each light to the fuse box, or is it easier to buy a new wiring harness? I am not as worried about asthetics as I want to get it legal so that my Duramax can get a rest on good sunny days. Thanks in advance
  20. You all have helped up with questios I've had so far and I really appreate it! So here's another. Can 1200 carbs be used in the 1300? The ones I have in this 1300 are so gummed up, I figureit would be easier just to switch them out. 1200's are out there, but the 1300's are hard to find. Any suggestions?
  21. with a couple of ABS welding rods, and a little patience, i have "healed up", the brake fluid breaks in my fairing! man this plastic welding , stuff is so much easier and cleaner, that the "homeade glue", method!! just jt
  22. How many of find that it is way too easy to lock up the rear wheel on the newer Royal Stars with the four piston caliper, especially in an emergency stop? I know that now when I think about it is way easier than any other bike I have owned, not scientific but seams that way.
  23. Changed my fuel filter yesterday and is it just me or does anyone else think that something as basic as a fuel filter should be a lot easier to do? Why would they make something like that so hard to get at unless it was to make work for mechanics at dealerships? The nut that the roll over valve uses is almost impossible to get your fingers on and I have small hands. Even hard to get a wrench back there. Wouldn't that be a good place for a welded nut instead of a loose one? Anyway, got it done and I'd do it again to save the cost of labor but it sure was a PITA. Has anyone found an easier way?
