  1. Guys, For job reasons I'll spent 4 days on CA, on the El Segundo Area (Close to LA). I 'm trying to check how much could be to rent a bike for two days and were to do it. I found only two HD dealers that do that but only up to HD prices.... There are any other choices? THanks,

    Rain Boots

Just got back from a trip that I had to don the rain suit 4 out of 4 days of riding. 3 of the days was not bad an hour maybe 2. Anyways the last day I just rolled the suit, and boots up and bungied them to the trunk rack as it was easier. When I got home I noticed that the heel of my rain boot has a tear in it. The ones I have now are maybe 5 yr old so close to replacement. They are the "spyder" type that have a complete sole. I am thinking about the Tourmaster or Nelson Rigg type. The cover just the toe and the heel is open. Can anyone tell me do these keep your feet dry with the heel being open? Are they a good rain cover? Looked at the Hopnel rain gaiters but the couple reviews didnt seem like the folks were very happy about the fastening methiod.
  3. I have a question that I've always wondered about. I'm sure plenty of you that have the mental data to prove this, will settle this question in my mind. Q. What air temperature do these normally aspirated motors in the Ventures and RSTD's that we ride like the most? What I'm asking is, do they run and perform better in warm-hot (summer) temps, or do they run and perform better in cool-cold (fall/winter) temps? Or, is it a matter of air thickness, and barometric pressure? The reason I asked is, sometimes on cool or more comfortable days, my bike acts like it really likes it, and is a little more responsive. Am I imagining things, or is it just that I feel better on those days? Just wondering.
  4. I wasn't aware of some of tee alternatives to regular trikes that are available these days - especially for those of us who are, uh, financially challenged. Or maybe you only need the trike when you stop ... or maybe some days are better than others. Here are a couple of links to some of these companies. A guy in the Goldwing chapter that I belong to has the Voyager kit on his. Basically, he needs it when he has a passenger. When he's solo, he's OK to handle the bike at stops so he can remove the wheels in about 10 minutes or less! http://www.trikealternative.com/ http://www.mtcvoyager.com/ Don't know the pricing on the Trike Alternative kit, but the Voyager is $4,100 US and is a relatively easy do it yourself job. And for those of you looking for some kind of Voltage meter to install on your bike, here is an interesting one - the Battery Bug. http://www.argusanalyzers.com/ Andy
  5. My Dad, younger brother, and I are heading off for Alaska tomorrow morning. We are renting KLR650's in Anchorage and riding for 12 days throughout this great big state. Day 1 - Anchorage to Denali Nat'l Park Day 2 - Tour Denali Day 3 - Ride to Fairbanks - Visit Gold Dredge #8 Day 4 - Ride to Arctic Circle, take picture and spread some ashes, return to Fairbanks Day 5 - Ride west to Manley Hot Springs, soak for a while, return to Fairbanks Day 6 - Ride to Tok Day 7 - Ride to Eagle, then cross into Canada to Dawson on Top of the World Highway Day 8 - Ride back to Tok Day 9 - Ride to Valdez Day 10 - Take Alaska Marine Highway (ferry) to Wittier. Ride to Seward Day 11 - Ride to Homer Day 12 - Ride to Anchorage Day 13 - Fly home and resume my regularly scheduled life. About 2600 miles. 140 miles on gravel to/from the Arctic Circle. About 150 miles of gravel to Manley Hot Springs. Balance should be paved (unless we take some detours). We were originally intending to ride up there, but we only have two weeks. The ride would take about 6 days each way (with my Dad along - he can't/won't do the huge miles to get up there in 3 or 4 days). This would only leave about 4 or 5 days to ride in Alaska. Just didn't make sense. Need at a minimum 3 weeks to ride up/back. Will have a ride report when I get back. See ya' all in a couple of weeks. RR
  6. after too many years Renate finally came off the road for medical reasons. Was pretty lonely at home by herself so a week ago we went to the humane society and adopted a hound cross as a companion. 11 months old and smart and stubborn at the same time, quite a handful. they bonded within 2 days and now he wont leave her side. Just got to figure out where to put a 50 pound dog with the wife on a bike. hey gary, any restictions on pups at pork in the pines? al
  7. I have a few weeks off in combination with the International and am looking for feedback and suggestions. This is a first draft of a route so it is really rough. Basic plan is leave the International on Thursday and stay at a Cousin's in Webster MA for a night or two (Friday or Saturday arrival). Towards the end of the route we'll stay at my brother's in Griffith Ontario. Other than that... route is wide open. Thinking minimum 8 days (plus couple nights in Webster, one or two nights at my brother's). Maximum 14 days (give or take bad weather days). Looking for suggestions on route and things to see. Planning on tenting it so will be looking for camp grounds along the route figuring 500km (300 miles) per day. Bad weather days will stay in a motel for comfort (and shower). Here is a link to the rough route : http://mapq.st/LK3e60

    accident

Anybody have any info on a motorcycle accident in the Portland Oregon area in the past few days? Someone thinks a rider from Saltspring may have been involved.

  10. Only 10 more days and we'll be kicking off the 3rd Kruis'n the Kootenays rally in Nelson, BC Looks like we'll have some new faces this year as well as some from previous years. Looking forward to seeing everyone arriving there safely. Anyone still on the fence? We need to get our banquet / BBQ numbers in to the catering dept at the New Grand fairly soon.
  11. I've been out riding with some friends this week we covered 2800 miles in 8 days. Lets see who can figure out where we went with some pictures.
  12. The bike was pinstripped at MD, I asked about washing and here is what the paint MFG instructions were. Kevin, I tend to suggest waiting two or three days before washing, and 30 days before waxing. Hand glazes, such as 3M Imperial, can be employed after three to four days. Please let me know if I can be of additional assistance. Regards, "Louie" 1 Shot / Chromatic Technical Support
  13. I stayed at the Days Inn in Martin, Tn while at B2Dads M+E. When I walked in and registered, I was handed a paper bag. In it were a bottle of water, a coke, crackers and chips. Very nice of them to do that for us. A few days after I got home, I received an e-mail which contained a survey about my stay. I filled it out. A few days later, I received an e-mail from Prof Mani thanking me for filling out the survey. The other day, I got a card in the mail. It was a hand written note from Prof and Kay thanking me for staying there. It is rare thing today, when a business manager takes the time to thank people. My hat is off to them, and I will stay there again next year....
  14. When I posted this last set of auctions, I put a reserve of $10.00 on them, that way if they didnt make reserve they would automatically relist, what I didnt know was when they relisted it did so for anywhere from 160 days down to 58 days, I will not let them run that long, all the auctions that are still open will be ending this Saturday, May 26. So you still have a little time to bid, this is the end of the shirts, pins and hats. I wont have any more for a while. I have a source that may have some leftover and I will see if I can get them, if I do I will post and so the auctions differently. Thanks for all your support of the kids at St. Jude. With the money you folks have bid and the very very nice check that the B2's presented me with at their M&E, we will have a very nice donation, nothing approaching last years, but a respectable one, which we will be presenting in person in late Sept. or early Oct. Thanks again to everyone who donated, bid, and supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.:clap2::clap2:

  16. Hello Everyone: Just letting you know that Mom passed away today after a battle with Cancer. I appreciate everyones comments when she went on hospice over 10 days ago. Thankful she is no longer in pain. Both parents gone in the last 60 days, what a year. Thanks...Mark
  17. Sick Leave I urgently needed a few days off work, but, I knew the Boss would not allow me to take a leave. I thought that maybe if I acted 'Crazy' then he would tell me to take a few days off. So I hung upside-down on the ceiling and made funny noises. My co-worker (who's blonde) asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb so that the Boss would think I was 'Crazy' and give me a few days off. A few minutes later the Boss came into the office and asked, 'What in the name of GOD are you doing?' I told him I was a light bulb. He said, 'You are clearly stressed out.' Go home and recuperate for a couple of days.' I jumped down and walked out of the office... When my co-worker (the blonde) followed me, the Boss asked her, '..And where do you think you're going?!' (You're gonna lovethis....) She said, 'I'm going home, too. I can't work in the dark.
  18. NOTHING,DIRT !! Been out here for only a week. Im depressed already (might be the 18 hour days working) what dos anyone do out here
  19. For those of you that know Rick and Shirley please keep them in your thoughts, Shirley's Sister(I believe) is not of good health and things are not promising for her. Please keep the family in your thoughts over the coming days.
  20. I found this item on the net this morning and got to thinking that if I found a way to attach it to the trunk, and run the hoses to the front, it would be a great way to stay hydrated on those warm dry summer days, LOL!...:cool10: Alcohol-free of course! (at least until we got to destination:group cheers:) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0055NWNOS/?tag=047-20 Brian
  21. Morris , an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm. A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, 'You're really doing great, aren't you?' Morris replied, 'Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.'' The doctor said, 'I didn't say that.. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur; be careful..
  22. Well dang......that shot my goal of a 12 month riding season this year. Yeah, I know, no big deal for some of you southern boys but in Nebraska it's a rare thing. I started riding the bike to work everyday back in mid March of 2011 and never even got in the car again except on a few really nasty days until this month. I think it was less than 5 days of not riding in that time. The temps dropped down to -3 last night and I decided to pull the battery out and bring it in. Hope it warms up a couple days so I can take another shot at this. At least above 15 degrees. But it's supposed to snow again tomorrow so I better gas up the cage. 11 months....... best year ever for me. Now I'm bored. Mike
  23. A buddy of mine is getting ready to sell their '99 Miata ragtop - - cherry condition, 88K miles, glossy black, custom rims, leather interior. Looking to get $7,000 for it. I am sooooo tempted, but I'm afraid that I might like it as much as my RSV and be totally conflicted on nice riding days! The maintenance and insurance cost would be a lot more, but it's a really pretty little car. A definite head turner. What to do, what to do?????
  24. Does anyone have any experience with this product? https://www.denniskirk.com/slime/mini-smart-spare-kit.p282558.prd/282558.sku I like the compact pump. My saddlebags fill up fast when we are gone for more than a few days.
  25. I'm probably just missing it again but I was trying to do a search for all posts on a certain date. In the advanced there is a date function but it requires you to also be searching for a word. Is there a way to search for ALL posts from all forums on a specific day or range of days?
