  1. Hi everyone, Well I bought a used 04 Midnight Black RSV today. I previously owned a 2001 and I'm glad to have one once again. I look forward to talking with you folks once again.
  2. Not taking no chances after that winter we had last year. With MaMamo's new job in Sumersville thats snow country anyway.I got 4 new HanKook I Pike winter tires coming for her Colorado 4x4. I bought a new set of driving lights for it to. Now if I could just find one of those Cow catcher Oil field bumpers for deer control.
  3. I had a weak moment and bought a 1986 Harley Sportster 883. This bike belonged to a fellow teacher that couldn't ride anymore. The bike sat for 3 years and I have repaired and got it road ready. This would be a great first bike and I will sale for 1400.00 under book value. I will take 4000.00 or best offer. I have rode the bike around 100 miles and runs great with no smoke. The bike has low mileage and when the speedo was removed to install drag bars the milage was at a little over 6000 miles. 870-405-3693 The bike is at Arkansas State University/ Searcy, AR Automotive Technology Department if you want to see it.
  4. I liked the first one so much ,I bought a second, my first "big" bike was the 88 VR, now just bought a 87 VR...... we will call it "HIS" and "HERS"....... except HER doesn't drive....oops... I guess I'll keep it around for a spare..... already have it stripped down to the frame and motor, rest in tupperware bins waiting for a "rainy day"...... the 87 is on the right
  5. Bought bike for parts off Kijiji recently to get the main fairing parts to fix my 87 but when I went to pick-up (3 hours one way) better than average fairings was I ever depressed when the tarp was removed and half off left side was missing and right side broke. I still bought it for the rest to use as spare parts or maybe to trade for what I need.Salvaged a few other parts I needed and will hopefully will find the fairings at good reasonable price(E-Bay is ridiculous.
  6. since my bike is down waiting on a fuse box from one of our great persons here. i thought hey i will take diannes bike out. its been on a battery tender for about a month or so. all systems looked good to go. i took off the tender. turned the key on hit the starter click that was it. head light dim. nothing nada no go. neighbor gave me a push bump start nothing nada no go. this battery came with the bike when she bought it PO said its brand new just bought it a week before she purchased the bike? hmm me thinks some one lied. its a yusa thats what i think it is. im about to pull it. take it to napa for a test... this sucks. nice out and feeling good and no vroom vroomm..
  7. Before I trashed my Cleirview shield (since it snapped off) I pulled the vent out of it. I bought the shield from a fellow member here who bought the shield from clierview with the vent installed. The vent works fine (the ball bearing could use a cleaning and lubrication I'm sure) but all the pieces are there. I was going to hang onto this vent and install it in another shield but I think I'm going to give the round pop-vents a try and figure I can pass this along to another member that wants it. I'm asking $30 (USD) And that is shipped to you (in the US). If anyone in the Vancouver BC area wants it, I can deliver it to you for no charge sometime between 6-21/Oct/10. I have attached some pictures. I can take PayPal, Personal check or cash (if we meet in person).
  8. Can't even let the man go to work anymore. He was on location waiting on a rig to move, so he got bored and started watching an auction on Iron Planet on his iPad. Called me and said he goofed or something like that and that he had won a bid that he placed and bought a motorcycle. I asked..."It ain't one that looses parts is it?" Yup it is. He got a 06 Harley. Think he said it is a soft tail, and something about Screaming Eagle. Now how to play this to my advantage....Heee hee. LOL
  9. I bought a set of passing lamps used so of coarse no instructions. Where should I get the power from? Do I need relay?
  10. A couple weeks ago we bought a lot at http://www.lake-mohawk.org/ We built a home there 15 or so years ago, lived there for 6 years and bought another home in town, then sold the one at Mohawk. We have long wanted to continue fishing w/o having to drive an hour or so to get to fertile waters so we decided to get a lot. Then of course we HAD to have a pontoon boat and that led to needing a trailer to put it in the lake and take it out in the fall. We managed to get that accomplished pretty quick. Then I decided that I HAD to have a trolling motor and I found a used MinnKota 12v 55lb thrust Terrova Of course that leads to a fish finder and I wasn't about to spend $2000. for a Hummingbird 998C so I settled for second best (IMHO) which is the Hummingbird Wide Portrait. Problem is they are pretty scarce but I'll find one somewhere. So if anyone out there has one or knows of one, I sure would like to talk about it with you.
  11. Well, Coudn't resist. Bought a 2006 Honda vtx 1800 R with sadlebags, windshield, new tires, and with just over 6,000 miles on it for $6500.00 out the door. Wil be picking it up within the next week and half. I know the routine, pics, pics. As soon as I get her home. Also going tomorrow to start the process of buying a house here. Hope they accept our bid. Will have 2 2car garages to store bikes in and in between them is a place for an RV.........Condor if you need space I have some avalible. lol.
  12. Now I'm trying to figure out what kind of bike to put them on... Anyone got any ideas?
  13. Since Nina & I have made the decision to sell our RSMV and buy a Wing, I'm probably going to have some questions now and then so here's a couple (did I say "probably"? ) ... We're considering model years 2001-2004 (price dictates this) and am currently looking seriously at an '03 with 66,000 kilometers on it. What kind of gas mileage can I expect? Can handlebar risers be bought for them and where?
  14. We just bought this one last week. Traded in our 1999 Suzuki VL1500 on it. This is also the seat I want to replace as I think the back rest part is to steep for me as I am a big man. But anyway here it is. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/Shinufu/100_0713.jpghttp://www.venturerider.org/forum/http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/Shinufu/100_0713.jpg
  15. Have any of you purchased extended warranties on used cars, and if so, what has been your experience. I'd like to determine if any of them are worthwhile, and if so, which companies sell the best ones. I know NOT to buy whatever the dealership is selling, as they are very overpriced. I recently bought a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer EXT 4wd with 58k and plan to keep it for 4-5 years. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  16. here is a great on line parts supplier for the gold wing, www.directlineparts.com/ they have great service and prices. i bought most all my wing stuff from them. they also cover other metric bikes.
  17. I'm riding in a parade this week end so I needed a flag. Went to the HD place and bought a HD trunk flag. Filed away the inside of it a bit and it fits great. SO. While I was there I saw the shorty antennas for the Ultra. COOL!!!! So I bought them. Their about 18" high instead of the 40" I have now. They are also properly loaded for AM/FM and the CB transmission. Now the Venture antenna has a male 1/2" SAE or something like that. The HD antenna has a female 9mm. I need a 1/2 male SAE to 9mm male adaptor. Anybody ever been here??????
  18. Just thought I'd mention this.... With the Euro falling like a rock against the dollar you can get a Carbtune and storage case shipped to your door for around $75.00. I think I paid about $115 bucks when I bought mine a couple of years ago. Good company to do biz with... Ooops, my bad. That's for the 2 column. The 4 will run about $85US. Still a deal...

    Checking In

Sorry Girls. Letting some of you down by not being on here helping with the men. Things have been crazy at work. New owners took over March 8. Little General out of Beckley WV bought all 4 stores that our owners had. Been going though alot of changes. We now sell beer. Replaced all shelving. Totally changed the store in the inside. I am currently considered the 1st Asst Manager. They bought the manager up from the BP which they also own to manage both stores. Been seeing if I am going to like it enough to stay. Can say that I am watching Schedules etc. This week I do not like what I am seeing. The first couple weeks was ok. Say some Prayers Please. It is depressing when you sit down and see that you have been cheated out of promotions at least 6 times and you know how much work you have put into it.:bawling:Are the moods that I am feeling. Could use some time with the FAMILY and on the bike.
  20. Howdy. I have an 83 venture standard bought in about 01'. My original speedometer quit working last winter cable snapped, popped the speedo needle off and with a new cable it doesn't work at all. Found another cluster on ebay and bought it with the understanding that the speedometer works. Put it on, and speedometer stays on Zero but the odometer works and seems to be counting the miles pretty accurately. I removed the cluster and opened the cover and the speedo needle seems to be free, not stuck, and always returns to zero if moved a little. How could the odometer & tripmeter be working when the speedometer isn't ? I bought it fairly cheaply so it's not worth shipping back. Thanks in advance. DesertRider
  21. I'm still kinda in shock over this.... My wife Peg bought me a 04 Midnight Venture Peg said since I sold all my bikes to pay - funeral - doctor - knee rehab - and other bills plus helping my family with their bills $$ She said she wanted to buy me a motorcycle? I'm shocked like who are you? one night she asked if Mavrick still had his 04 Midnight for sale I said guess so why? Lets buy it wow my jaw dropped and hit the floor could not believe she said that. Well today she gave Mavrick the check to the Midnight and I have to say this is one beautiful bike Mavrick babied this machine very nice and the sound is beautiful BUB mufflers I fell in Love all over again. I seen Mavricks Midnight at Giga whiskey last maintenance day and fell in love with his bike man it was a beauty we talked awhile then went on with our lives never thought I would end up with this Midnight. Peg said she knew I prefer the Venture over the Wing due to my knee problem but I bought the wing for her anyway due to her back trouble! she said I'm always doing for others so she bought me this Midnight. I never had anyone buy me something this big or this nice . I almost cried I usually end up with a package of socks:rotfl: Mavrick and his better half Pam took us out for a ride and bought us lunch Thank You Pam for the lunch it was fun and the place was really nice:happy34: and hope we can return the favor. Peg's back was feeling pretty good and had no trouble riding the Midnight I think she had more fun than me we had a blast riding with Mavrick & Pam I will post better photos later the 6hr return trip kinda tired me out and sun burned my arms pretty good in the Texas Heat but it was worth it Buddy
  22. Just bought a beautiful Gen 2 2000 white/tan. Great shape and chromed out. Wanted more reliability than my Gen 1. Wanted to make sure I could get parts. Was quite shocked with the Gen 2. (The following is only my opinion after riding the Gen 2 400 miles yesterday. Not trying to upset anyone but I imagine there are some Gen 1 riders out there that wonder what they are missing) There are certain things I really like about the Gen 2. Foot positions-awesome Accessability to work on things Suspension- Maybe my Gen 1 just doesn't work right. Don't feel a bump on the Gen 2. Looks Cruise control No plastic ABS panels! Tank capacity. Love the 6 gallons. There are quite a few things that I think the Gen 1 is still better. Heat- The Gen 1 is more comfortable on hot days. Those side fairings really do something. Fairings- Protects better through the wind, moves better through the wind and less noise. Handles better at slow speeds. Tach, temp, time (Whats up with no clock on Gen 2. Doesn't make sense) Speed is hard to read. Granny guages on Gen 2. Hand position- Handlebar is adjustable on Gen 1 but not 2. Seems like at highway speeds I'm standing still on the Gen 1 it goes so easy. Lights- Back end and front end are much more visible. Seat- I think the seat is better on a Gen 1. Because of handlebar position I am way forward on the seat which makes me catch the heat coming up from the gap of the front of the seat and gas tank. Managing at slower speeds. Handling- I just have 400 miles on the Gen 2, but it seems like the Gen 1 handles better slow and fast. Hope I don't feel this way for long. Fit- I'm 6' 1". I think this bike is made for a guy who is 6'4". The handlebars don't come back far enough for the seat in my opinion. Center stand- Why no center stand on the Gen 2? I'm wobbling at parking lot speed on the Gen 2. Guess I will get used to it, but a weird feeling. Front end seems like I am moving through cement. Gen 1 just seems more fun to ride. In fairness I just got the Gen 2 yesterday and rode it 400 miles. I got it because of reliability. Thought I could get things fixed faster and better since parts were more available. I didn't realize how attached I was to the Gen 1. There is a certain pride in wrenching a 27 year bike and taking it a long way from home. Showing up at a gas station with a group of bikers and having them look over like they have never seen what your riding before. Unfortunately I can only have 1 bike. Don't have room. I bought the Gen 2 just because I wanted newer and more reliable I didn't care about better. I did expect to get the same though and not less and I do feel like the Gen 2 is "less" than the Gen 1 in too many ways. Seems like the Gen 2 sacrifices a lot of function to capture the Harley look. The only thing I know for sure is that I like and respect the Gen 1 a lot more today than I did a week ago. I've always cussed the plastic on the Gen 1. It frustrates me that things are too hard to get to. I'm going to be a Gen 2 rider for the coming years, but the grass is not much greener over here and there are some bare spots. The Gen 1 is a great machine. The feeling I have riding a bike that I have somewhat restored along with the function of the bike seems to have given me a thrill that was greater than what I bought. I know I'm going to have to sell my Gen 1 coming up soon, but I will definitely have some remorse with it.
  23. I need some help here. I just bought new matching helmets for the wife and I. Don't remember the brand right now. We used to wear those little beanies when we rode the "slick97spirit" (honda shadow, hence the screen name) . Anyhoo, the wife has always complained alot about helmet itch. With the new and safer 3/4 helmets she is really complaining to the point of wanting me to trailer on our trip to Myrtle Beach this summer. Says she is not sure she'll be able to take it that long. Surely there is something that can be done. I've tried everything I can think of. I've bought several different types of doo rags, both cotton and polyesther and nothing seems to help. I know someone on here has dealt with this at some time in the past and found the cure. I guess I can just tie her on, turn the intercom down to 0, and take off.........
  24. So I bought my Venture in March and with the snow haven't had much of a chance to ride it, this weekend however we went out on a family ride, My son took my R1 and my wife on her Sportster, we went up in to the twisties above Denver. All I can say is WOW, the bike handles like a dream on the curves, and I kept up with the kid on the R1 in most turns the only time he got away from me was on the short chute straights where his acceleration out did mine. I'm really glad I bought the VR and can hardly wait for the balance of the summer to be here so I can really see what it can do. I ordered a new set of progressive front springs for it this morning, hopefully I'll have them installed in the next couple of weeks... It may be 30 years old but it's going to have a place in my garage for a long time to come. Ride Safe
  25. I just bought an 83 Venture Royal. She is a beauty. I picked up a Cyclecomm cb system for it from Ebay.
