  1. Hey does anyone run one of these? can you share your likes, your dislike etc. How do you determine what temperature to set it at? hwo quick is the reaction time on the road if you start losing air? thanks!
  2. Just thinking. I have a few parts and just want to kind of get a list in my head of what should go where. What would you want?? What I have is: 1. I have a 83 with a new frame. Has good 2nd gear but I think that is on the top of the list. Go ahead and install 86 tranny I have. FJR or V-Max rear. I have a air cleaner set-up with 4 seperate air cleaners to get rid of air box. Maybe help with room for Boost system?? 83 cams 7 Heads v/s V-Max cams & heads?? Garage to do this in!! (I am getting there!!) What would you want for dream 1st Gen?? I already have fastest Venture around:whistling: Got nothing else to do at 3AM.

  4. I just noticed the date is January 15th. It was 42 years ago today in 1969 that I was inducted into the U. S. Air Force and I remember it as if it were yesterday. Wow, that was a long time ago. RandyA
  5. WAS looking for couple of extra helments and checked out.. leatherup.com .....and found what i was looking for. right now they have many helment on sale. a lot are almost half price. i was able to pick up 2 of the HAWK AP-80's for $70 each free shipping of orders over $90. these are 3/4 helments with a flip up face shield and the drop down dark lens. hadn't seen this in a helment since my days in the Air Force. while checking there are sales on clothing, leathers, jackets. if anyone is in need i would check their site... it may be on sale. good luck.
  6. Got my new (to me) windshield in the mail today! (thanks oldbear!). Decided since it warmed up to 13 degrees today, I would get out there in the garage and install the windshield...while I was at it I went ahead and installed my new windblocker (to keep the air off of my knees) that my dad got me for Christmas. Here's a pic of them installed and the difference in the windshields...
  7. I run "0" PSI in my front shocks and have found that air pressure is building up in the shocks. The right shock seems to build up faster than the left and I do not understand why. I removed the air valve this morning and noticed oil on the valve. This is making me wonder if the oil seal is leaking and that is what is causing the air pressure to increase. Has anyone seen this before? Would this be a warrenty problem? I have an 06 RSV that was purchased in 07 so I still have some warrenty left. Thanks for the help.
  8. just got the lower end back together on the engine. billet rod, and new cam with a little more duration, and lift. next is the head. i usually port my own heads. but this time i bought a new one that is milled .100", ported and flowed, heavier springs, and a three angle valve job. i never realized there was so much available for these honda motors till i searched the net.. right now i,m up in the air on the carb. i am considering a 34 mm mikuni flat side. because the intake port is huge. i really wanted a smaller carb for lowend torque. i'm also considering roller rocker arms. only have 3 months before the arkansas spring cushman meet so i need to get my butt in gear.
  9. I have been playing around with my air ride suspension to find the best riding comfort. Seems any were fron 15 to 19 is the best for me. Were do you have yours set. Merry Christmas
  10. I'm making plans for some mods and/or upgrades this winter....auxiliary power, rear lights and etc.... I have read many valuable posts, made notes, saved pictures and etc. I extremely value and analyze the opinions of those that have "been there and done that"....this site has some very intelligent and sharing members....Thanks. Having and maintaining the proper air pressure in the front shocks is paramount for the RSV to handle consistently... in my opinion. The air volume in the front shocks, being so small, I drop the compressor tank pressure to 6psi, check and recheck, then air my front shocks.....very time consuming, but the most accurate way that I know. I did many searches, but have not found the answer to my "BRAINSTORM" sooo "HELP". I plan to use a quality 1/8 or 3/16 air line and fittings to tee and join the front shocks together, run the air line back to a saddlebag, where I will have the Progressive Pump and Pressure Gauge.......Will I need to use check valves to avoid issues in a curve...with the shocks teed together ??? I'm sitting...sooo.. YOUR OPINION ?? Thanks in advance:thumbsup2: Freddie
  11. Should a person check the air in the rear shock while the bike is on the ground or in the air? And I'm assuming 30# ?
  12. Air Show Brace yourself before looking at the attached image. A pilot at low level has lost control of his aircraft and It narrowly misses the crowd gathered for the air show. It slams into four buildings. You can only imagine the horror of the occupants trapped inside those buildings.See below! http://venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=52463&d=1291538746 "Probably scared the sh*t out of them!":rotfl::rotfl:
  13. I have an 08 RSV. In June, I was getting an average of 44 MPG (). In July, I changed the plugs to NGK Iridium, replaced the air filters with K&N, and replaced the fuel filter with a Purolator (??) recommended on this board. Since then, my gas mileage has dropped of dramatically (avg of 38 mpg, one-up, highway driving @ 55). Last month, in an effort to understand my loss of gas mileage, I pulled the plug caps (which all measured @ 9.6k ohms), and changed the plugs back to the stock NGKs, and synched the carbs. Over the last month, my gas mileage has dropped to approx 34 MPG...this represents a 10 MPG drop over the last 5 months... Today, I cleaned and charged the air filters...I'm not overly optimistic at this point. Any help or suggestions would be reatly appreciated...I'm running out of ideas!
  14. when replacing the air filters, does any one just remove the top cowling screw and slightly bend the top of cowling to gain access to the screws and bolts to get to filters?? read online this is one way to do it ? seems like K&N is to way to go for filters?!
  15. A while back, some one posed a question concerning air horns. The OP asked the opinions of those who had installed two or more of the Stebel type air horns. This person wanted to know if the dual horn configuration was a more noticable improvement over using a single horn. Well, while not using the Stebel brand horns, I did in fact use the "Bad Boy" type that Harbor Freight sells. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/94100-94199/94117.gif I installed two of them, one on each side, and had the wiring finished up by last Thursday night. I had my opportunity to give the dual set-up a run for the money today when I rode in our local Veteran's Day Parade. I rode with our local Gold Wing group (don't worry, I was riding my 1st gen VR) and there were about 15 bikes in our group. There were approximately 4 of us (that I could hear) that had air horns on our bikes, and mine were by far the loudest. I'm very happy with the dual set-up. In using just a single horn, I noticed that it clearly sounded as if the horn was only monted on one side of the bike, which it was. But when I added the second horn to the other side, it was a difference like night and day. True stereophonic sound! Response was instantanious. There was no hesitation, I had sound the very instant my thumb hit the button. So, are two horns better than one? You bet!
  16. First I would like to thank the guy who asked if I had the lower cowlings off. I synced the carbs last night, rode today no better. On the test ride held my hand over left air box opening bike immediatly ran better. Came home took two shop rags folded in half and taped over front of air boxes one each side. Bike now runs great. Either forcing to much air or creating a vacuum and starving the carbs of air.
  17. Just wanted to bring this to the top in case any of you are interested. There was a discussion about these in another thread and somebody asked if it would be possible to get a group discount. I contacted the manufacturer and here is what we have at this time. We will offer your members a 15% discount to see if there is any interest. Their code is" Venture" and will be valid for 15 days. This is for an armored air jacket and the reviews are really good. You can read all about them at: http://www.armoredairjackets.com/index.php
  18. I got to say this is the best change I have made on my bike to date. I always found that the forks on this bike are never right. If you have no air in them they are too mushy and if you even have a little air in them you get a very hard unforgiving ride. Hit a pot hole and you blow your kidneys out you butt and on a on ramp it almost chattered and went sideways if you hit bumps in the lean. After seeing a post by Rick Butler I decided to try something Rick had done. I installed Sonic Springs in a heavier rate (120) and added the Racetech Gold fork emulators. Basically you are eliminating the air assist and adding spring. Also you are making the shock a variable dampening unit instead of an unadapting hard on the bumps shock. Now the bike is surefooted in turns and on rough roads a much more comfortable ride. Now to do the rear shock. I planed to wait but I found the infamous pool of oil under the shock and its not warrantied. Second one in a 16000 mi range. I ordered the Works.
  19. ok im in a bind and cash is low.. my rear tire has been leaking off and on. bought new and only around 900 miles on the rear. well i just got tired of it. i went to where i purchased them. theses are e3 on the bike now. well the shop manager said hey i will sell you these 404,s for half price.. a gentleman placed an order for them put a down payment and never showed up. been sitting here for 2 months, buy both of them for $145. plus tax. and he will throw in the mounting. well i did and some how the bike just dont feel right? i dont care for the thread pattern. but like i said i was in a bind. did i do ok. till next spring when i can do better. and how long will these last they seem kind of soft to me? unless he didnt put the right amount of air in them??
  20. If your like me you probably use your laptop alot. Maybe sometimes while your eating southern BBQ finger foods like ribs. You know how your keyboard keys seems to get dirty and greasy. Or maybe you might leave the thing open for days and weeks at a time letting a layer of dust settle on the screen. Like I do. If so resist the urge to use a pressure washer to clean it up. This method of cleaning is highly over rated. At least for a laptop and may actually cause physical harm to this sensitive electronic device. Go figure:confused24:.....Who would have thunk it? But, that is exactly what a painting contractor did to mine at work the other day by the hands of his non english speaking hispanic pressure washer operator. This over achieving pressure washer operator in an attempt to impress the English speaking citizens of his new found country took it upon himself to go one step beyond the call of duty when pressure washing the concrete floor patio outside of my office. Evidently he thought the high wall fresh air intake grill 10 feet above the ground needed a little cleaning too so he hosed it down. Not thinking what happens to the water passing through the grill. Which happened to be the grilled opening to the fresh air intake plenum directly above my desk. My desk where my laptop was laying unsuspectingly open, on and collecting dust.....As it normally does.:bang head::bang head: I still do not understand how he knew my laptop was on the other side of that windowless wall :superman:and directly below that fresh air vent... and that it was open and dirty. But, his aim was pretty good because every drop of water managed to land on my dirty keyboard and screen, :95:missing entirely the company owner computer, walkie talkie radios and pagers laying directly alongside. Well needless to say a clean keyboard aint everything because it immediatly went blank, started humming, buzzing and rolled over dead. The good news is the contractor entertained me at Best Buy today while I got to pick out a shinney brand new laptop with all of the latest bells and whistles. He even springed for the cost of the Geek Squad doing the Vulcan mind melt routine to transfer the contents of my old hard drive to the new bigger hard drive on my new laptop computer.:mo money: The Geeks have also called to tell me that the Vulcan mind melt thing is complete and I can pick up my new internet ride anytime I wanted. So, in the morning before it gets hot I'm gonna ride the old scoot:7_6_3[1]: up to pick up my new puter. Cant wait to take her for a test ride........ Windows 7 no more Vista WOO HOOOOOO:cool10:
  21. Greetings from Knoxville, TN. I hope this is a good place to post this for some info. I just got a real nice loaded 87 Venture Royal. Can do a lot fixens, but the linked brakes I never had before. Seems like there is no rear pedal. I have bled the rear cal and the left front cal and there seemed to be no air. However, the bleeder up by the handle bars has a lot of air. I kept the rear master cyl filled, thru the 14mm bolt hole in the side of the MC (i guess that is a fill hole), and bled a lot of air out of that upper bleeder and got a good hard pedal and wheel stop, but after a little other work elsewhere on the bike, I rechecked the rear pedal and there was not any pedal again. I have repeated the air bleed from that upper bleeder a couple times and more air comes out. I would think that if I got a good hard pedal then Im good-to-go but why doesnt it last? If I had a leak sucking air in, I would think I would also see a leak on the floor, specially under pressure when bleeding. Would love any ideas and direction. Dennis
  22. After some prodding by fellow members I'm offering my Stebel air horn bracket for those who wish to have one. It's made from 1/8" stainless steel and nicely polished. Pics below of it on the air horn and in the mounted position. It replaces the stock horn on the right side of the bike, and tucks in very good as well. The horn doesn't stick out beyond the exhaust pipes because of that. Price of the bracket is $15 which will include shipping priority mail. Payments can be made by PayPal at lskeels@wowway or use the same address to get my home address if sending a money order. Larry
  23. I recently had the opportunity to buy a 1990 Royale, it runs great and now that riding season has started here in CO i've had more chances to get her out and let her run. I do have one question since this is my first experience with the Venture line, mine seems to ride really hard, I've set the air suspension at different levels over the past few days but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so what can I do to correct it. Thanks in advance for your help... Bob 1990 Venture Royale 2003 Roadstar 2007 R1
  24. In my constant quest to bring new meaning to the phrase "cheap screw".....I'm currently looking for a way to replace my air cleaner elements that won't cost an arm and a leg. If anyone's got an idea for an alternate paper element (i.e. sourced from anywhere other than the factory)......or a completely different setup (but please not K$N....oops did I make a Freudian spelling error there?......) I'm open to suggestions.......just not expensive ones. Hey, I'm even up for crazy ideas like dry-cleaning my stock ones.......IF it would work! Thanks for anything, Mike
  25. Not much is Free anymore. All the local gas stations now charge $1.00 to use the air machine. What happened to 50 cents. I remember when using the air compressor was a free service. Sheetz where the wife works still has free air but not many left that do.Whats next a $1 fee on the Restroom door? I drove 12 miles to the closest gas station Saturday to gas up the truck. Everytime someone borrows my truck they bring it back empty. Anyway I took the airtank with me cause my air compressor was guarded heavy by Yellow Jackets and the tractor tire was low. I got pissed at the $1 fee for air and came back without it.The gas station also charges a $1 authorization fee just to swipe your credit card at the pump. I'm going to put a sign on the mailbox. Checks Free but bills and junk mail $1 please. I could have the phone company charge for incoming calls the wife is free, all others $1.00 except the Mother In Law $10.00:whistling:
