  1. I found this a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get the chance to post it. Thought a few might get a kick out of it.
  2. I wanted to let you all know about a salvage site that I belong to that has a 2003 Venture up for auction. Its a 2003 and its black. It does look like an easy fix and it seems like (from the pictures) that the owner but some money into it with extras. The name of the site is "RideSafely.com". Their main office is in Pa.. I did buy an Electra Glide thru them a few years ago (wreck) and was very satisfied with their service. Please don't think that I'm endorsing them but you may find the bike that you've been looking for here Josh
  3. 3 1/2 years ago I tried to adjust my valves. I had done it on several bikes that had screw and locknut adjusters. Trying to go by the book wasn't working out so I put it back together and took it to the Yamaha dealer. When I talked to the mechanic he wasn't interested in helping me figure out what I was doing wrong. Now here it is 3 1/2 years later and I just had it checked by an independent. I told him about my attempt and that it still bothered me. He did it for half the price and explained what he thought wasn't working for me. Like the carb synch in the factoty manual he believes the factory service manual isn't right. He said he had to rotate the engine a little past TDC to obtain good measurements. He rotated it to where the lobes where straight up instead of pointing away from each other. In the position that the book called for the measurements that I was getting 3 1/2 years ago weren't making sense. 3 1/2 years ago (32,000) miles the Yamaha tech changed one shim. Today (65,000 miles) everything was in spec. ????????
  4. Greetings... This started happening about 1 month ago. It has gotten progressively worse - to this point: Facts: #1 & #2 carbs were out of sync because I played with the Sync screw thinking it was the idle speed screw. Finally Synced them, and played with the idle speed screw. A week Ago - It WOULD Idle at 1000 rpm when warm. It hasn't been run since last friday - It's now Wednesday. Over the summer - The cotten-wood trees have deposited a hideous amount of Fuzz that has been a real pain. It gets everywhere... It rained 2 days ago, and the bike was outside, uncovered. - Today was a rather nice day - I went out to go for a ride this morning, and basicly spent the entire day attempting to actualy get the bike (89 VR) running... Symptoms: It will now - NOT idle at anything less than 1500 rpm. At Idle (like at a light) there is an audible 'click' Where the tach will drop to 0 rpm, the bike will chug slower and slower - then eventualy, (if the throttle isn't blipped) Die... When it is running - It runs well! There is NO problem at any speed above Idle. The Tach will NOT register anything less than about 1500rpm. In other words - I have to keep the idle set a bit high, because it will just die - the tach just drops to 0 if I set it to less than that. What can cause this? Today I tore off the entire fairing, and checked all the wiring, all vacume tubes, spark plugs, etc... I synced the carbs - and finally got it running. It ran well - a lot more pep than it was doing a week ago - but every time I came to a light - it would idle at 1500, then - an audible click - and it would suddenly drop to 0 on the tach and a few seconds later - it would sputter out and die. It starts, as long as I REV it when it catches... But it won't idle correctly. I can play with the idle screw all I want - but If I adjust it down to normal idle - all the above is guarenteed to happen. So what can cause this?
  5. Hurricane Fay has been an unwelcomed intruder into FL for the past week! When she came to north FL 3 days ago and shut the county down, I spent 2 very enjoyable days in my garage & completed 3 installs on my 01 red Venture that I never had the time to tackle! The rack & guards are typical but the driver's backrest was a challenge! A few weeks ago I had a Kawasaki 1600 Vulcan Nomad in my garage and was very impressed with the substantial passenger back rest (sissy bar pad). That same day I happen to check for similar items on ebay and found and bought a new/used one off an 07 Vulcan for $40.00! It feels great while sitting on it in the garage but whenever Fay decides to leave us alone I will be excited to get the RSV out on the road with the new goodies on her! Next will be the tach, xenon H4 bulb, the votage thingamajig so I can add more lighting, etc, etc :>) Having trouble uploading photos here but here are some on this link: http://ebay-misc-auctions.blogspot.com/2008/08/dads-rec-stuff.html
  6. 83 Venture Royale. I would like to replace the battery with a new sealed gel type. Can it be done so that the battery fluid low indicator is not showing all the time???? Has anyone ever done this before? The probe that goes down into the battery has never been the right size since the battery was replaced a few years ago. The probe is smaller than the cap that you take off to install the probe so is there any way to just remove the probe and to turn off the indicator on the display???????
  7. Guest

    Today I met,,,

Marinerfan and danob11 at Louisville Yamaha. It's always cool to meet folks from the site, and especially at an event like todays. The dealership had a "remembrance" day today for one of his employees, and a good friend of Stratcat's and mine, Tim Faith, who was killed in an accident a year ago. A big thanks to Strat for helping put it together, the bands were great, it was a beautiful day for it, and I know Tim is still smiling and laughing. THANKS CURT!!!!!
  8. I have owned this Joe Rocket Meteor Jacket for almost 4 years now. It is a black on black jacket. Jacket is in great condition, never gone down. Jacket has a full sleeved thermal liner, which makes it very warm for fall or winter riding. With the liner removed, the jacket can be worn in the warmest of weather. 2 air vents in the sleeves provide much ventilation, keeping you cool, while protecting you from road rash and the elements. There is a very large exhaust vent on the back to assist in keeping yu cool and dry. Jacket has no rips, no tears. There are 2 issues with the item, the zippers on the sleeve vents are broken, I opened them 4 years ago, never had reason to close them, and they oxidized. So the vents are always open, there is velcro around them, so if you wanted to shut them, you have to just close the velcro. All other zippers are fully working with no issues. Also, some areas of the jacket are a bit sun-faded, and look a bit brown. This is because I ride, and I ride alot. I have never been on the bike without my full gear. All in all a fantastic jacket, that may save your skin one day, literally. So why am I selling it? Well, I bought the jacket about 55 lbs ago, so my "loss" is really your gain. I will attach some pics of the jacket soon. I might list it on eBay, but before I did I wanted to see if any of the group here might be interested. The jacket new was $250. I will take the first $50 OBO. PM me if you are interested. Sonny
  9. Hey Guys – Great Site! I’ll be leaving Sunday, after church, for 6 days of family vacation. Then I fly to TX to pick up my new (to me) ’99 RSV. This bike is known to me. I used it for in exchange for performing the maintenance on it 4 years ago when I was between bikes. (The friend that I am buying it from has ridden it regularly but only short distances since then. He has only put about 1200 miles per year since he moved to TX). Since that summer 4 years ago I have ridden about 25K miles – about 10K on a 1500 Goldwing then about 15k on a Ultra Classic. What do I need to “watch-out” for as I get used to the RSV on my 1400 mile ride home? (My friend is taking it to the Yamaha shop for a once over so I am not concerned about the mechanicals). I am thinking about some of what I have read on the site. Is the stock handlebar position going to kill my shoulders after being used to the Ultra? Are the rear brakes “that” touchy”? Maybe I’m getting old and forgetful but I don’t remember anything that kind of stuck out at me about the bike other than it made me smile to ride it! Thanks for all of your help
  10. I wont mention who's home in WEST BY GOD VIRGINIA I saw this box of Krispy Kreme's at.....but it wasn't all that long ago, and there were lots of people there PS Look at the one thats HALF eaten!!
  11. if anyone is looking or interested we are going to sell our trailer. We never use it and want to put the money towards a camper. Im going to list it on ebay tonight.......but if anyone from here wants it , they get first dibbs, Id even stop the auction for you ... its a 1998 Starlight...... maybe about 125 lbs..i can move it around easily. The frame was sandblasted and heavy duty primed and then painted 3 yrs ago.....the tub was removed and repainted...a cpl years ago we revarnished the wood rails on the top. Has a spare..tires are in good condition...all lights work, all the lights u see in pics are lights, none are reflectors...has bearing buddys on wheels. looks wet in the picture cause it is...... I sprayed it off as it was dusty from the garage Can send more pics if anyones wants. there is a small scratch on the spoiler
  12. I am new to the Venture have only put a few hundred miles on it, I have a vibration that starts about 65 mph and gets worse up to 75 that makes the bike almost buzz like they did 30 years ago is this normal? Mine is a 2006 w/5000 miles on it and the vibe goes away if I pull in the clutch and let it coast so it must be engine or drive train related. I also just switched to straight synthetic oil abut 300 miles ago, this really quieted it down but now I have noticed this vibe beginning and it seems to be rpm related. Any ideas?
  13. Noddy...a irregular member here bought a set of avons for his 91 from southwest moto a month or so ago. At my recommendation mind you. He got the typical great service, prompt delivery, good price. He noticed the other day that the front tire is "checking", or otherwords, cracking all around the rim area. Mine did that a couple years ago from a set I bought at Sturgis. Now, Gord has to take off the tire and send it back to SWM and they will send him a new one....great..but he cannot ride without a tire very well...so may be stuck. He was hoping to get them to send him a new one and then he would send the old one back just to cut time off the road. They can't/won't do that. This tire is a great one and he is pleased with the performance but I am hearing more of the issue with the cracks. Not on the 2nd gens just the 1st gens. His tire was made fall last year judging by the date code.
  14. I'm looking for someplace to but the small pouches that strap on to the passenger handholds besides Yamaha. I thought there was another thread a long time ago, but I can't find it! Thanks in advance Kenw
  15. I pulled the rear light bar off the 83/84/86, and the license plate bracket had been removed many years ago. Anyone have an 83-85 Mark I bracket laying around I could buy off them??
  16. Hubby and I are new members as of a couple of weeks ago! Started out on a 95 Virago 1100, then bought a V Star a couple of years ago so we could each have our own bike. Hubby traded in the V-Star for 05 Midnight Venture last month. Finding this forum has already been a wealth of info....but my question is for my Virago.... do you know of any place that would have a used, good condition engine guard and highway pegs reasonably priced for it? Saw your posts about the Vroom, vroom. We rode to Wabasha this weekend, jumped the river for a while then came back home. The wind was crazy.....took me all day Sunday to recoupe! 10 hours of fighting that was too much! Thanks for any info.
  17. How do I pull up posts by specific people. Can't seem to figure this out since I was a week ago. Iowa Guy:confused24:
  18. This Tue. 41 yrs. ago GOD gave me an ANGEL to share the rest of my life with. Linda and I were married on that date. The reason I say ANGEL, is she has had to be and still is for putting up with me all that time. Also, for being willing to go on until the FATHER IN HEAVEN calls us home. Am I humbled, yes. Am I amazed, yes. I really don't know how to put into words the feelings in me as I write this. But, believe me they are they are difinitely on the "good side" for lack of a better term. Don H.
  19. I got the nuts off but not sure what to do next to remove the front speakers. Somewhere there is a detailed procedure that I reviewed a few weeks ago with pics but I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where the post might be hidden here in this forum?
  20. Let me tell you what is so good about this group!! Over the past year or two I have mentioned how I am having issues with the suspension on my '87 VR and was thinking maybe I should swap out the rear shock. The last thread about that was probably about 6 months ago at least, and died away as they all do and that was pretty much the end of that discussion. A few days ago out of the blue I get a PM from Gibvel, offering me a used rear shock for the cost of the shipping! We discussed various shipping options and then I started a thread to see if we could organize a relay to get the shock to me. That thread died and it appeared as though I would have to pay to have the shock shipped to me.....no big deal. Then out of the blue Leadwolf56 contacts me and offers to bring the shock up to my neighbourhood when he comes up this summer if I can get it to him from Gibvel's. These are two guys that don't owe me anything, that really don't even know me and yet kept me in mind with an offer of the shock, and an offer of delivering the shock to me. If I wasn't such a macho kinda guy right now, I could almost get a little misty here!:rotf: Gibvel and Leadwolf56 are great examples of what this site and this group is all about - people sharing a common interest and helping each other out. Gentleman....I tip my hap to you both and obviously say a big THANKYOU. I am proud to be a member of this group.
  21. OK folks, I've had a number of requests for the small venturerider patches. I have been out of them for a while now. I am sorry for the delay but I did finally order then a few minutes ago. I should have them on hand again in about 3 weeks. Thanks for your patience.
  22. Greg Darling is a friend that I met a few years ago. He followed me into a restaurant and asked "Was that you that just rode up on a Venture?" I replied "That depends on why you want to know!" That was the beginning of a friendship. He had just bought a 92 and we sat and talked Ventures, I turned him on to this site and we began to ride together. Later he moved it to his house in Florida and bought an 83 to keep here in Roswell. On this site he went by GOYO, and although he didn't post, he did check in periodically. He has been battling cancer for some time and, after going through treatments last year, was in remission and doing well; getting both his strength and hair back. I called him a few weeks ago and he was in the hospital. He told me the cancer was back with a vengeance and he said he had a lot of family there, but would call me in a few days. I talked to him a little over a week ago and asked how he was doing. He said "Not too well, I am in hospice now and don't have very long. But I've had a good life and am happy with it." I told him that I expect him to ride over my shoulder and he agreed. I didn't get a chance to see Greg before he passed on Sunday (3-2-08). I am very sorry for that but after talking to his mother-in-law today, he was not really aware of much for the last week. Greg is survived by his wife Valerie and 2 young children. There is to be a memorial service on the Tuesday after Easter which is the 25th. I'm not sure where it will be held but it will be in the N Atlanta area and I intend to ride to it if at all possible. As the time draws near I will post the time and place for any that care to join me on the way to or at the service. Don, I will try to get you info and a picture for the Memorial Page. You will be missed, Greg. Ride with God.
  23. Forgot to post this. We lost the only one we have lost since opening our new prison in 94 last month. A female officer helped him sneak out when he was in the Work Camp we have on our complex. He wasn't inside our Perimeter. But he was ours. And she is not any more!! Locked up!! Hope she gets some serious time. We caught him 2 days ago. In a stolen car with a gun. SMART!! Trade a 5 week for a 1 to 10 on the gun, 5 Flat for Escape, Not sure on the car. I have him back in my Max unit with a big knot on his head...... Don't know anything about that:think:
  24. anyone going to stardays? i just registered. it is to close to home to pass it up. it will be in rogers arkansas july 22nd thru the 25th. haven't been there since it was in st. joe ,mo. several years ago.
  25. Just wanted to let you all know that though I've not posted much over the past few days, I am keeping up with all thats going on. I caught some sort of winter bug and have been down for a few days. Running a high temperature, congestion, ear infection.....all that goes along with it. Had a flu shot a few weeks ago so don't think it's the flu but something has sure put a whuppin on me. Haven't been to the doctor but may go today....probably not though. I actually think that MAYBE I'm feeling a bit better this morning so hopefully maybe I'm starting to come out of it.
