I just got back from a ride, and lost all gears above 2nd On downshift...heard a terrible sound (clutch was in etc)... was able to get it in to 1st, can shift to second... can not shift in to 3rd.... stops at second gear. Limped it home... 1st and second no problem... like I only have 2 gears. HELP... andy suggestions on where or what ... I'm thinking the gears in the tranny went... What would fit... upgrade to Vmax ? Bummed...

Are the radio units ( amp and tuner) the same between all 1st gen Ventures? The radio in my 83 VR has given up and I need a replacement. I see some on EBAY for other years and they look the same buy will they plug into my amp and radio display and work?

Is there a fix for 1st Gen Speedometer error. Mine is off 6-7 mph at 35 mph and at higher speeds it is off by 10 or more mph. Now I calculated this with those radar speed signs and by doing mile markers on the highway. (Its reading a higher speed than I'm travelling.) -

Just bought this yesterday. Put 130 miles to get it home. 2006 Honda VTX 1800R. 6700 miles new tires and lockable bags. Still have the 1st gen. Will be doing some maintance on her.

On my way home from work today I came up behind a tan 1st gen cruising south on I-49. Ole guy with Quebec plates. He wore a white helmet and had a round reflector on the trunk (if this sounds familiar to anyone). Wanted to stop him and have a close look at it. He probably was wondering a why a white fully marked tahoe was following him at 65 mph.

1ST LET ME SAY. I need a new rear tire....I corner the hell out of my bike. I am under 200#. My 800# 87VR "sport bike" is set w/30 psi in the rear suspension W/PROGREESIVE SPRINGS FRONT AND REAR.. . The SIDE STAND AND CENTER stand tabs are worn to nubbs. The saddlebag trim is now trimmed to a unique shape. Get the idea? I cannot find any info on this tire being USED by us 1st Gen. riders? I love the handling of the Avon's. But now the cracking issue is not going away. I am considering the Commander. I had Dunlops in the past and they do NOT provide the "feedback" I need while cornering. SO I need a great handling rear tire that give me feel, aka feed back in the corners...NOT AVON, NOT E3's. Does anyone have some 1st hand, 1st gen info, feedback? And what's the max. PSI for the commander rear tire? What mileage life should I get? I got 10k out of the Venom rear. Any ideas, info or suggestions are much appreciated.

Correct me if I am wrong. ..But I believe you can put a 1300 1st gen rear drive unit on a 1200. So, IF YOU had a 1300 1st gen. and had a chance on buying low mileage 1200 rear w/shaft and swing arm complete at a really cheap price , that you personally inspected . Would you buy it for your aging 1300 to keep as a spare??? -
OK, not looking to start anything but need to ask. Will be putting my RSTD up for sale soon I hope and then plan to replace her with a 1st gen VR. However, if I am not able to find exactly what i am looking for I am also a bit tempted to take a close look at the Kawi Voyager XII. They don't really look as sexy as the 1st gen however am hearing plenty of good stuff concerning their performance, reliability and economy. Anyone had any experience with these bikes? Would welcome some input. Will probably looking more at the early 90's to say 2000 year models if that helps. HAve also toyed with a wing but it just seems like everyone has to have a wing and additionally they tend to be much higher priced looking apples to apples with the competition. Kinda what drew me to the VR in the first place. Thanks abunch for the input.

I have read a lot of the posts on this subject and have not seen a direct question or answer on this subject, so here goes. Most say that the 83 to 85 1st generation is the fastest of all the Ventures at 1200cc. So my question is this.What has to be changed to get the hp of the 83 to 85 models in a 2nd gen? I know the gearing is different, and a lot of people change to a v-max rear end. I'm talking about just hp and torque increases. I've heard about swapping to v-max cams,but would like to know what all would need to be changed,how much of an increase could be expected,and if it is worth the money involved to warrant it. I know that Pegscraper has done a lot with his early model Royal Star,and was wondering if any one with a 2nd gen had tried some of the same things. I would like to know what the differences are and how to get, at least close, to the 1st gen hp and performance and approximately how much it would cost with 100cc more to work with.

Since they appear more aerodynamic, do the 1st Generations get better gas mileage than the 2nd Generations?

Just noticed the grey bar for "town, time & temperature" is missing from my signature. Freebird is the only other person I could remember that had one, but his is gone too! Did I miss a post:doh: explaining this or am I the 1st to notice?

Ive had my 83 Venture Royale for 6 wks or so. Today after sitting for maybe 5 days, I started out for a ride, it died at 20 mph. It would start in neutral but would die as soon as I put it in 1st. After scratching my head for awhile I tried again and it seemed OK. I rode for an hr. or so, and stopped at the store. When I went to leave the same thing happened. This time I started out in 2nd, and when I got home it seemed to be fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone know if all 1st gen front fenders are interchangeable? In particular need to know if an 85 will fit on an 86. Thanks.
