  1. I had to sell her. It's like selling on of your kids. Just didn't have enough room. To many in the stable. She went to a real nice fellow in Mississippi, a ride captain in the Patriot Guard. I'll miss her. Good bye Road Star! Now I only have to keep two Ventures clean. My wife and I can use some of the money for a cruise. I can go to my sons competition in Barbados. I can keep my eye open for another great motorcycle deal.
  2. Most of you know I hosted a BBQ meet and eat in Leakey,Texas(3 Sisters area). GuthDaddy17 and his wife were coming and had a little incident in Johnson City,Texas while headng to my house and were unable to attend. I was unaware that Keeley had made me a "Special" present for the event but Larry sent it VIA FedEX. It is a really cool BBQ Apron She hand stitched(Maybe machine but regardless stitched) with the inscriptions you will see on the Apron..even went as far as putting the little blue VR Award ribbons on it! VERY COOL! Thanks Keeley and Larry! Here are some pictures..I know I need a hair cut..didnt feel like combing it but Im old..who cares! BTW Both are doing OK at last call to them..Thanks again Keeley!

hi folks i wish to post a mighty big thanks to a fellow venture rider and his wife. as some of you know last weekend i was heading over to leakey, texas to meet up with tom and a bunch of ventureriders. i was about 60 miles out of houston rolling at 75mph. all of a sudden my clearview windsheild flew off the bike. the sheild did not hit me or anyone else as it come tumbling back to earth. man what a rush, all that air pressure. i was able to pull over and look the bike over. i could see the sheild back down the road aways. i ended up picking up the sheild and returned home. i wish to thank VANCE he gave me a new clearview shield with a vent, wouldn't take anything for it. also thanks to his wife BRENDA for puting up with me as i arrived at their place at 8 am a full hour before i said i should be there. they even made me breakfast. had a nice couple hour visit with them in their lovely home. isn't this how it is with our big VENTURE FAMILY, helping each other out as we can. again much thanks to vance & brenda. best reguards don c.
  4. Didn't make Big Tom's ride becaues Becky had a Ladie's Tea at church so instead I got the lawnmower out to get it ready for the season. Wanted to replace the drive belt as it was slipping last year. While the oil was draining I removed my gas tank and installed the new bib that came in the mail that morning. After looking all over town for a new belt, morning turned to afternoon and Becky came home, and one of our newet members, Joe Neamon, called to find out if we wanted to ride someplace and I said sure, I have to go to Sears about 26 miles away. They live in the next town over, about 5 - 10 minutes away, and as we wer e waiting another new member Tom who lives 2 doors down drove past with his GF Amy and I told him gear up, Joe is on the way over and he told me he knew, he just saw Joe on the way over. A few minutes later, another neighbor 2 more doors down stoped and I asked him if he wanted to ride with us. He has a really nice Harley softtail he keeps immaculate, and in the 5 years he has had it, we have never ridden together. It's always some thing or another. Anyway, Jerry joins us sans wife who is busy, and off to Hamburg we go! Wonderful ride in, absolutely no rain! That morning Jerry had been in the area we went for an ABATE ride and ended up getting drenched (and got his shiny bike dirty)!! Horray, Sears had the belt we needed. In the mean time, Joe and Kathy hadn't had their lunch and it was going on 4:00 so we decide to head to East Aurora for a meal. Great food, great fellowship! Well, naturally we have to have ice cream, so back to Arcade to Delightfuls for ice cream. The weather is still summer like and none of us feel like calling it a night except Jrry who had to get home to wife, sooo, off to Ellicottville for coffee!! Stayed there for a while, it was already dark, so I guess it's time to finally call it a day. Now if Joe hadn't needed to go to work this morning, we may have went to Cleveland for breakfast...
  5. Several years ago my neighbor had a gold wing with a folding mirror for his wife that hinged down from the open trunk lid. I seem to remember it being a flexible piece of highly polished plastic as to not break. It had a snap fastener that held it in the "up" position when loading/unloading the trunk. He had removable bag inserts and the mirror must have molded to the shape of the bag because it never broke. Has anyone seen something like this before? My wife would love a mirror after a ride. It's that hair thing....... Thanks, Rob
  6. Might not interest some but here goes. The night I met my 83 VR, June 13 2007 11:33 PM. Let me set the stage. Bought off Ebay sight unseen. The wife and I had been looking for months, I knew what I wanted and the wife was my purchasing agent. She found this one in Dothan, Alabama. It had a very low buy it now price and we went for it. In talking with the seller he said he could believe it, only on ebay for 30 minutes. Now I live in Upper East Tennessee so had to get it home, lucked out on a shipper headed this way from Mobil, Alabama and got a great price for transport. The day of arrival came and it was raining elephants and bears. (cats and dogs were nothing) The shipper called at 9:00 AM and ask if I could take a late delivery, what me turn it down NO WAY. So after having not ridden a motorcycle in 27 years the moment of truth was fast approaching. Move the hands of the clock forward and it's 11:30 PM, still raining like Noah is next door and the bike is here, almost. Closest place the shipper can get his rig to my house is 2 miles away. (Did I mention it was raining) So we unload at a closed service station under the canopy. Bike runs really well (thank goodness). I little tryout under the canopy and it's to to "carry it on home". (did I mention the rain?). The plan was for the wife to follow me home keeping any traffic off my rear end. First Bump and all the light go out, first downhill run (mountains here you know) no rear brakes and very little front. Thank Goodness only a mile and 3/4 to go. (don't forget the rain) Found out real quick if you roll on the throttle it would move. Well the next mile was a long mile. Zero visibilty, don't forget the rain, and my rearend in pucker mode. The lights of home come in to view, at least I think its home hard to tell in the rain. At last my prize is home in it's nice DRY basement. The wife looks at me and says "you look like a drowned moose" I really didn't want to tell her it wasn't from the rain but from the "sweat bullets". Over the next few weeks, reading on Venturerider.org, I said it's time to call for help. RandyA I saw lived the next town over so I called and introduced myself, what a blessing he arrived like a night in shinning armour on a purple steed and in one day, a little work and some duct tape the old gal rose from the ashes. So thanks Randy, and more than a few of the rest of you my 83 VR is running well and is now known as "Tent Peg". (another long post) Yes, I know what a great choice this bike was and like it more each time we leave home together. So take a look below - Steve & "Tent Peg" the early days!
  7. Any body know what happend to salty dawg and krome rose? Havent seen them in a while in here anyways. Was just wandering where they are. They were one of the first to extend an offer to go and check on the inlaws so as to calm me and my wife down after we couldnt reach them after the hgurricane a few years back. And Ive rideen to M&E where they were present and had a great time with their fellowship. Hope all is well. David
  8. Hope you don't mind us drawing attention to it here in the watering hole but fear it may not be noticed in the "other bikes section" - Just listed in the classifieds. 93 goldwing trike. I know - It's not a venture but maybe someone here knows someone that wants a wing. 15oo/6. It's got a roadsmith trike kit - with easy steer. My wife needs to get rid of it to get a work truck (We are keeping the TD). Check out the classified and see if you have any questions.
  9. All my Harley buddies kept asking when i was gonna get a Harley.. My Response.. "I guess when i grow up and be like you!!!"" I was riding a 2006 RSTD.. Great bike.. Not so comfy for the wife and we are ready for our Leesburg Florida trip.. so we decided to upgrade.. I thought.. I feel like a grown up.. Lets go get a Ultra Classic.. When to the 2 local HD dealers.. 1st one, saw some beauts.. No one to help us.. so we went to another.. Went to the used side. They had a nice 2009 Electra Glide Ultra Classic.. perfect.. In the price range.. I messed up.. "hey, can i test ride this thing??" Sure enough.. The wife was not happy with it.. i felt llike i was riding a bicylce.. not sure why, just was not for me.. Told the Salesmen, nice but those turn signals really throw me off. (left on the left, right on the right). So, went to the jap shop.. They were nice and informative. But they were urging me away from the venture and into a voyager or goldwing. Venture is such old technology.... (they did not have a venture on the floor.) So.. went home depressed.. Not too bad, still had my RSTD.. So, what do we all do, drink a beer and search the internet.. Well there it was.. the 2010 Yamaha Venture S.. nice.. "Where can i find one tomorrow..(sunday) 50 miles away.. Cool.. I am there.. So, wife in tow, we go.. Well, the website was incorrrect, no 2010s.. but man, a 2009, they were begging me to take.. So.. What should a guy do.. I'LL TAKE IT..(after some negotiations, of course). So, the moral of the story.. Dont ever grow up. Ride what you like. Take no prisoners.. and.. dont wait so long to get something that you need and want.. Oh.. attached is a Pic.. (now i have to put the 600 miles on it for the 1st service.. half way there..)
  10. so, i'm sure alot of you guys have your wives or significant others so.. i have a .. concern with my wife riding with me. I had a tank slap today, combined with high wind.. quick thinking and a strong guardian angel were the only factors that kept me from becoming a hood ornimate on a volvo tractor trailer. my wife decided not to go on the trip with me, and i'm extreemly thankful, because if she had been on the bike, i don't know if we would have made it out. so my delimma is having my wife ride with me. i don't know if i could ever come to terms with her being hurt because of an accident when i got her into this to begin with. she's not an avid rider, but she has atgatt and likes to take a trip now and then. We've talked about riding alot more as a pair, the reason i got this venture, infact. I'm just not sure about it. any of you go thought this? any advice?
  11. Please keep Larry and his family in your prayers. He went down Thursday evening. Works with my wife. http://blog.al.com/breaking/2010/04/driver_thrown_15_feet_in_motor.html

If things work out I hope to head your way soon to get this clutch job done. Can the wife make enuff cheesecake to keep me busy and outta yer hair? Warmest regards.....Boomer
  13. Made it home from the hospital last night (wife is typing for me). Still in a considerable amount of pain, but up and about on my feet. I have already started the process of looking for a new bike (with airbags!!, wife added that part) What can I say? I am a trooper! Just remember, to ALWAYS wear your helmet, and remind your friends to do the same. Here are a couple of shots of the bike. http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs494.snc3/26972_1362195648803_1048940196_31078560_6669339_n.jpg http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs514.snc3/26972_1362195688804_1048940196_31078561_5535339_n.jpg http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs494.ash1/26972_1362196048813_1048940196_31078568_5826999_n.jpg Ben
  14. 15. Here is a little program that you can make yours or someone Else's voice work on your Garmin. I was thinking of having my Daughter Enter the voice commands. Like Daddy, I have to recalculate again damn it ! Or you can have your wife or girlfriend yell at you when you made the wrong turn! I think It would be fun to try. Just thought I would pass it along to everybody! have fun with it. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4754 Jeff
  16. It all started rather innocently last year. I was just surfing the net late one night for stuff for the 83 and up came a 85. The photos were so sweet. Beautiful curves, classy act and so available. I just had to have her. She was promising low maintenance and a easy start to the new season. As I got to know her I had to make her happy and do what I could to bring her what I thought would make her happy. My wife said just ride the bike. Today she sits apart and I am picking paint colors and finishes.. How did I get here!!!! What happened????? Why do I like it so much? !!!!!!!! Any suggestions on color???
  17. I finally came up with a solution to having a fully modern setup for the bike. I did not want wires and I dont need CB. I do need to be ablet ot talk to the wife, take a cellphone call, and listen to music+GPS instructions. I landed on the Scala Rider Q2 multiset. for the helmets. $250. at most amazon.com retailers. This gives me headsets that will talk to my Phone and each other for intercom. bonus the wife can connect to her own phone and chat away on the back of the bike to whoever she wants to call without bugging me. I needed GPS and my ipod, wanting to stay wireless I came up with an idea. I need to mix 2 audio sources... so I need to make the following cable.... input 1 is the ipod, input 2 is the GPS. hook them to a FM transmitter for an ipod. Now set your volumes and you are almost all set. All I need to do is to set the scala Q2's to that FM channel and it's all done. Stereo sound, GPS alerts, Intercom and Cellphone. This allows me to use a cheap GPS, plus a cheap mp3 player or ipod with the wireless control on the handlebar. Far less than the cost of a used bluetooth GPS and near the price of a new set of headsets for the bike. Plus I get current technology instead of 1983 technology and best of all.... no wires for the wife to forget to disconnect and rip out a connector.
  18. Ok it looks like it's official and this is short notice, but we will be hosting a get together for maintenance and eating and whatever at my house in Bogalusa, La. next saturday, Feb 27th. Boomer and squidly have said they would be comming, maybe Wes? if anyone else is planning please let me know. The wife said she would cook so need a head count. If you would like to come friday that's fine, we have plenty camping space and there is a hotel in town (Travlers Rest and Sportsman Inn). Original thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=45439 Look forward to all who could make it.
  19. Took a few pics while we were at Deadwood today. Weather wasn't great, but not bad since they said it would rain all day. Painterman, his wife Laura, MM482 (Earl), Poledar (Bill), Muffinman, and myself mini (hehehe) Margaret
  20. I have a 2nd gen with a sidecar so mounting the horn on the right side is out of the question, even though my wife is hard of hearing.Has anyone mounted the horn on the left side or somewhere else?Pix sure would be nice.
  21. Ordered a light blue fleece jacket for my wife for Christmas from Big Tom. Ordered to late to get it in, but it did arive later. :doh:I told her I had bought it , so she was waiting for it. The day it arrived she got home before I did, when I came in she was wearing it, told me she loved it, and wore it to work the next day to show it off. Why didn't I do this sooner.:bang head: Thanks to Big Tom and Tater for bringing these and other items to the site, they do a great job:bowdown:. If you ain't got one yet, you need to
  22. What a woman!!! So my wife comes to me last night to let me know that since my birthday is this month I could order a few things for my scoot, after careful consideration we ordered the passing light bar and lights, visors for all of the lights front and back, and a extra large clearview windshield were also looking at the best ideas on a new horn. My old man toot toot as my wife calls it is fine for the good bye waves but really want a second "LOOK OUT" horn for the bike so I am looking for ideas on horns and mounting and wiring ideas and the more pics the better thanks for all the help and info guys
  23. As a memeber of this fine club, I have found the most helpful, honest and friendly "friends" you could ever want to meet. I am in need of an electrician to help out at the house. I need the large AC unit rewired due to the wrong size wire used when the house was built, and I need my new garage to have a couple of lights installed. I travel alot and am unable to assist or look around for someone to help the wife out with this problem. I know the club members here network and I am hoping this could be a rewarding experience for both of us. LOL Ride safe and stay warm.
  24. I purchased a leftover 2008 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe this summer, and love the bike. The Stock seat only lasted a couple of weeks as it was not comfortable for me or my wife. So we decided to try the Mustang seat, better than the stocker but no perfect by any means. I could go 75 miles without any pain, and my wife only about 35 miles. I have a airhawk seat pad she uses on the rear seat and that extends her riding to around 50-60 miles without stopping. After a few months of this setup, I decided to send the seat to Rick Butler for his seat mod on the Mustang seat. At first it seemed better, the wife can go 40-45 miles on this seat without the Airhawk pad, me I can go around 80 miles and my rear starts to hurt. I mean pain not numb rear. So to my questions my other choices are the Corbin, Ultimate seat, or try to find a used seat of a Venture and modify the brackets to work. Who has tried any of the above and what are your impressions?? Can anyone compare any of the above to the Mustang? Does anyone have any pics of the RSTD with the Venture seat on it?? And how is it working out?? Thanks in advance for your help and have a great day. Morgan.
  25. Hey all, WE got back in safe . HAd a ball staying with aamcotrans (Rob & Clare). We met up with wanderer at the steak house and went to the show from there. Bike show was interesting and we had a good time. As someone has posted on another thread there was not a lot of great deals at this show but it was nice if you wanted to compare one bike after another. My wife ,Laura , was handling the camera so no pics of my new dream bike but I fell in love with the 2010 v_4 vfw interceptor. We had a ball visiting. Thanks Rob and Clare for putting us up and putting up with us. If the link works here are the pics my wife took.
