i was wanting to put a tool bag or a barrel bag on the front on the forks that is big enough for tools and water prooff got any suggestions on a good one to purchase?

After reading recent posts about mounting gauges it got me to thinking more about mounting a water temperature gauge. I wanted to do something that could mount from the handlebars via a RAM mount. I've spent a little time today and visited some local parts stores and online sites and I think I may have found a solution. It was recommended that I use a marine gauage because they are sealed better. I found a web site that has everything I think I need except the actual RAM mount. Came home today to one foot of water in my basement..what a mess..Tools, bows, electrical appliances, pictures, things that belonged to my mother before she passed away 2 years ago, spare bed, Christmas decorations, furniture, leather goods, hunting equptment, pool table, etc, etc, etc....the list goes on..Got the water pumped out..float stuck on sump pump..Dont know where to begin..carpet soaked..One step foward..two steps backward...its gonna be a long weekend.....relit water tank...washer working..gas dryer not working, furnace working..sump pump running every 20 seconds. Hope its still working in the morning... Just needed to vent...cleanup begins tomorrow...

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 litre of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. Coli) - bacteria found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop. However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting. Remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health . Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of **** .

2nd Gen owners... You may have a slow water leak.... and not even know it. This slow leak can only be seen when the fuel tank has been removed because of its location. The water hose clamp I found leaking is located just above the right hand side engine dog bone. The leak will appear as a white powdery substance on the rubber hose, or on the hose clamp. You may even notice a spot or two on the TOP of the rear valve cover located on the right side front jug. Look carefully because it looks like dirt. I was able to turn the clamp tightening screw about 6 turns before it finally became tight on the hose. NOTE: Do not over tighten the hose clamp where it cuts into the rubber hose. I enclosed this picture to help you see what it will look like.

So cold here that I think my garage door is swearing at me in the morning! I've had this issue with the coolant leak on my 89 VR and it leaked again:bang head:, this time I found 2 leak points first 1 was at the drain and the other is at the base of the plastic elbow going into water pump. Hopefully both easily fixed( in warmer weather)!We'll see soon enough!!!!!! Everyone stay warm and be very careful outside:snow:

It is supposed to be down to around zero F here in the next couple of days so yesterday evening I thought I had better check the antifreeze in all my vehicles. The first thing I had to do was run over to Walmart to buy another checker as I could not find the one I had. I figured as I was there I would buy a gallon of antifreeze. I still can not let myself buy the 50/50 mix and pay almost the same price as regular. And, I always keep a gallon or so of distilled water on hand. Everything checked good, but one of my Maximas was almost 2 quarts low. I must have a leak somewhere, but I have not noticed it marking it's territory. So, when the weekend gets here and the really cold temperatures, I will just snuggle down and stay in. RandyA

Love this Texas weather - 76 degrees Sunday, 35 yesterday, 27 today! One of the PIA items we need to do when it stays below freezing for a couple of days around here is keep the leaves out of the pool skimmers so the water keeps flowing and prevents freeze damage to the pumps and filters. This can be especially problematic when we have such a cold snap so early in the season before all the leaves are off the trees. As you probably know, sticking your hands repeatedly in water that cold can really be painful. I normally use a pair of neoprene fishing gloves for that job, but I recently bought a new pair of gloves that I thought I would try. Two of the things I just don't think a man can have too much of are glues and gloves, so when I saw a dirt cheap price on a set of waterproof work gloves at Harbor Freight last summer, and found they were actually beg enough for my hands, well, I just had to buy them. These are Western Safety, item number 96612. They are completely waterproof, Thinsulate insulation, and have reinforced non-slip working surfaces on palm and fingers. I think I paid about $6 for them! I can't vouch yet for how rugged they are, but I can absolutely confirm that they are 100% waterproof and WARM. I really expected them to just be water resistant with a bit of leakage around the seams, but not so. I have had them completely submerged within about 1/4" of the cuff numerous times, and even after the water freezes on the outside of them while I continue to work they remain completely dry and warm inside. I have an extremely hard time finding any gloves big enough for my hands - most extra large gloves don't even come close. But these in extra large are just perfect. I don't think they would make very good riding gloves in nasty weather because the cuffs are not long enough to go over your jacket sleeves. But they are sure nice to have when you have to do anything else outside in cold wet weather. Goose

Now I know there is a whole section on connecting up a Tach but bear with me. I purchased a Sun Super Tach II (2 1/8 diameter for $15.00) and want to use it on my 2006 RSV. Now my question is this, I believe the Tach as it is will not work correctly on the bike as it will only read from the 1 coil it is connected to there by when it says 1,000 RPM the motor is really doing 4,000 RPM. What I need to know is the RSV considered a single fire setup because of the 4 individual coils? Now I found this info on building an adapter for mutli coil setup (picture attached). I priced out the diodes and they are around .02 cents each (in a lot of 100) and the resistors I figure can't be much more and a small box to put them in less then $5.00. My question here is will this work on the bike as a single fire adapter if there are 4 setups made and each connected as shown in the picture to the coils with the Tach set to the 4 cylinders setting. I have water proofed the Tach to the point of it floats but would be better off saying it's more water resistant not water proof. When I get this done I'll upload a PDF on how I made the Tach water resistant (a few O rings), fixed the mounting, and got it all to work.

Has anyone here replaced a tire that Ride-On had been used in?? Was it still as water soluable as when it was put in? Any mess when it was taken off the rim???

I replaced the battery and the new one has a threaded filler cap and is to large for the wire that tells you when the water is low. What can I do? Thanks, Kevin -
Well some of you know that my wife and I spent a bit of time getting our scuba open water certifications. The classes were fun, but a lot of work. we completed our open water (meaning we can dive up to 130 feet deep) about 3 weeks ago. We went on our first real dives week before last on vacation. What a thrill. We took 4 dives from a boat and one shore dive over a three day period. The fish and coral we saw were amazing - sea turtles, moray eels, zebra eels, star fish, sharks, and more fish than I could name. One of the real thrills was petting and holding an octopus. The dive master signaled for us to sit still a minute and he swam away about 15 feet and came back with an octopus with a head about the size of a dinner plate. Got to hold it. Absolutely amazing. It was incredible being 90 feet below the surface and able to see 200 feet away with perfect clarity. I cannot wait to get underwater again!

The last two times I rode the bike Ive been getting a knock from the engine. Like a tap tap tap sound that goes away or so it seams when I rev it up but at idle it sounds like some thing wants to come through the water pump cover. I wanted to make sure it wasnt something else so I changed the oil back to the amsoil that I usually use. I used Spectro the last time and it had never been there before. Well the knock is still there and It concerns me so much that I wont ride it that way. Anybody have any ideas? Should I pull off the cover and last but not least is this something that is common. I been here quite a while and havent seen any threads on this but maybe I wasnt looking. I did do a search but frankly the search here is not the best

While watching a segment of American Thunder that covered the Harley History Museum, they covered a bike that had never been released to the public called the Nova. It had a V4 water cooled motor. Very interesting......... Did a little search on Google and came up with THIS

With my scuba lessons. My wife and I both decided to buy some new snorkle equipment. Next thing I know we were both signed up for open water scuba certification lessons. You guys just thought a Harley was expensive - start buying scuba equipment. Anyway, we finished our confined water and classroom instructon a couple of weeks ago and completed our forth and final open water dive today. We are both certified not as open water divers! Let the adventure begin!

Saltydog (Wayne) and Krome Rose(Brandy) came to visit today. So we took them on a little ride to Elizabeth City to eat and then rode back across the S Bridge here in Hertford. Got some nice pics of the clouds they were rather puffy and slightly ominous looking at times. The first few water pics are the Chowan River then the Perquimans river. We have a lot of water around here. Last 7 pics are of the S bridge. Margaret

As big as the front tire is on these bikes does the front tire tend to hydroplane when you hit a puddle on the highway at speed? I used to ride a Vstar and it would send the water out like a speed boat with any sign of hydroplaning.

Has anyone experienced a knocking sound that seems to be coming from the water pump? I can't imagine what could be causing the knocking noise that seems to be more noticeable at idle and slightly above idle. Doesn't seem to be the clutch cause the knocking doesn't change with the clutch engaged or not. The clutch does make some noise when not engaged. The knocking sounds it definately coming from the water pump. The bike is an 88 VR and does not overheat even on the hotest Texas days. Any advise from anyone would be most welcome. Thanks Masterguns

these V4 makes a great water pump , i can pump out my rad. in 8 miles rite out the ex. pipe :bawling:also it is very hard to remove a motor from from the parts bike with the wheels off [ front headers ] , i have pulled the motor mounts , drive shaft , all the wires and cables , carbs , do i have to pull the U joint ? doe's it slide out the rite side ? how come nobody said how heavy these V4s are ? it weighs more than a V8 !!! will maybe i can get the left header off tonite , when i pull the bad motor out , the wheels are staying on !! -
How to fill radiator???

OK, I know this is a stupid question, but is there any trick to refilling the radiator on a 2005 Tour Deluxe? Not being mechanically inclined (and perhaps none too bright), I pulled the water pump cover to replace it with a chrome one without "Yamaha" stamped on it. Of course (being the water pump cover) coolant drained out onto the ground. I am sure I lost all of it. First, is there anything special about the Royal Star coolant? Will just Prestone from WalMart (pre-mixed at 50/50) do? Secondly, is there a tech article on this site detailing how to refill my coolant system? I REALLY would appreciate any help anyone could give. Thanks in advance. -
This should be an easy one. Does anyone know of a company selling just a plain (good quality) chrome water pump cover for my 05 Tour Deluxe? I was able to get a plain chromed timing hole cover from Baron's, but the only water pump covers he has are the "V Four" etched ones (to me, no better than the ones marked "Yamaha"). Let me know if there is a company you know of. Thanks.

I mounted a water bottle cage to the left saddlebag crash guard. Works great. I used a cage that adjusts with a thumb screw to whatever water bottle you use. I use a CamelBak bottle that doesn't require tipping up (so it doesn't block my view of the road while taking a drink). It attaches using a 1" bar clamp I got from the bike store, and I installed it so the passenger floorboards still can be folded up.

Well, the checks I been waiting on finally cleared the bank. SPent 400 dollars with Flatout today, Chris called me at noon and told me that all parts are available in the warehouses, only one part needs to come from Japan. (I'll tell you about that later. Something to do with not wanting to take 10 minutes and make the clutch holding tool!!!). All parts should be in by the end of the week. Saved 25 bucks by having him hold the parts for pick-up since I only live 10 miles from there. These parts are just the internals, like all o-rings, gaskets, clutch springs, 2nd gear repair (gonna undercut my gears), water pump rebuild,etc.. Will post complete list if anybody wants to see it. Next week I'll order my exterior stuff, going to replace all the hoses, water route orings, thermostat, etc. Doing this once, and then be done with it! Flatouts website makes it easy to order, can print out the microfiche listings, that way you have a record of what you've got when it comes time to figure out what all those bags have in them!!! Oh well ,back to the grind! Dan

I decided to drain the antifreeze yesterday. Everything went well, drained the radiator, cylinders, etc. but when I got to the water pump I couldn't believe how hard it is to get to the drain plug out. Do I need a special wrench? Do I need to take the exhaust pipe off? If it is the exhaust pipe that has to come off then the bottom screw on the pipe is just as hard to get to. Am I missing something? What if I don't drain the water pump? Harry
