    Ooops

Only did that once, riding 2-up ... and as I was going around that corner (at a fairly good clip I might add), I was thinking to myself ".... I wonder how far over I can lean this thing before it just falls over..." LOL I tell ya... I'm sure I coulda kissed the ground as I went around that corner!
  3. What bothers me about either the swivel hitch or this swivel ball is, what stops either of the components from riding on their edge so to speak. Example, in the case of the swivel ball, what's keeping the ball straight up? ... seems to me that once weight is applied, it will tilt to one side or the other, causing the hitch to be at an angle to the ball .... knowutimean?
  4. I have a swivel hitch on my new tent trailer but didn't on my old cargo trailer. The old trailer pulled along just fine in the twisties. What I did do for it was install a ball with a slightly longer shank as it seemed the edge of the hitch might hit against the base of a "standard" shank on an aggressive lean. As for the swivel hitch, I don't see that it makes any difference for normal riding but could see an advantage if one did drop the scoot.
  5. Kruis 'n Kootenays is happening in 2012 ... we could always turn it into an International rally .....
  6. One does not normally see this. And you won't have another opportunity like this. (It is silent until the last few seconds ) http://www.youtube.com/embed/KZrFC988Thc
  7. She must SCREAM at that rpm ... no wonder you can't hear the whine .. :stickpoke:
  8. I'm interested to know what you paid for this.
  9. The Caranuba wax sounds like a great idea. I'll keep this in mind for the next time I undertake polishing aluminum parts. I not only polished my wheels on the '87 but also all the engine covers and they all shone like chrome. Makes for a very sharp looking scoot and yes, it was a LOT of WORK! Fortunately, it may be a long time before I have to do this again coz on a 2nd gen, especially the Midnight version, everything is CHROME!! (well, except the wheels LOL)
  10. That being the case, one might think it's running too rich so leaning it out a bit would reduce the amount of unburned gas in the exhaust...??? yes/no ???
  11. Nope ... but I probably should have as after it sat thru the winter, there was some oxidation or whatever (white, powdery looking stuff) showing and I had to re-do them a little bit.
  12. There's a variety of stuff you can strip the clear with... others will chime in on that. I did the one's on my '87 but don't remember having to strip them. I used Autosol and 00 (double 0) steel wool followed by a buffing wheel on my drill to polish them. Turned out really nice. Also did this on some Aluminum "honeycomb" wheels on a Van I once had. https://autosol.com/shop/aluminum-polish/?KeepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=420&width=700 http://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/acatalog/Bike_Cleaning.html
  13. Thanks for this info Freezy ... I've been eyeballing a few 1500 for sale and there are sure some nice ones that come up. Question.... what's the power on the 1500 like compared to the RSV ???
  14. Thanks for that info ... carb work / pilot screw adjusting, etc will be part of my upcoming winter maintenance.
  15. A quote from the above article... "Here's another one from the world of unlimited conceptual design: the Cadillac World Thorium Fuel concept. Otherwise known as the Cadillac WTF"
  16. Ever since I installed (and drilled out) my RK's, my bike pops and spits like crazy on decel ... I've gotten so used to it that I hardly notice it anymore. When I put the stock pipes back on the popping isn't noticeable or is non-existant. I figgure that with the RK's being drilled out, there isn't any back pressure ... it's almost like a straight-pipe. The AIS has been plugged and carbs sync'd and no vac leaks that I know of.
  17. a lot of the 1st gen temp gauges read that way ... high on the gauge, and as such, one would think they were running hot... when in fact they're not. Both my '85 and '87 read high ... the '85 was like your's. It never overheated... nor did my '87. This has been talked about several times here and I just learned to trust what everyone was saying (basically what I just said) and not be concerned abou it.
  18. Apparently my brain is full of it ... yyaaawwwwnnnnnnnnn ... I'll try to go back to sleep now!
  19. Along with all the other "ideas", the ONE thing I'd like is a motor that doesn't sound like every internal component is going to rattle itself to pieces (a bit of an eggzagerashun). Let's have an engine that is quiet like a GW or for that matter, a Harley.
  20. I think I'd have preferred to see pics of how you went about loading it ....
  21. Would that be for nostalgic effect? (coz fuel injection wouldn't require it)
  22. Condor asking the same Q ... (or does he have a dual identity? ) "cut" the speaker wire??? mine are just "plugged in"
  23. I read it just fine. .... with my magnifying glasses kidding!! click on the bar at the top and it opens up so that it can be read. Good one!!
  24. You might be surprised at what you'll find in a non-Yamaha shop. Several years ago when I had my '85 VR (Venture Royale), I found a Suzuki dealer who employed an awesome mechanic who also had a long history of working on the older Ventures.
