  1. Yeah the OEM shock leaves a lot to be desired. They do moan and groan a lot and some don't stop and continue to do it for the entire ride.
  2. Man that SUX big time. Glad you are ok now.
  3. This is what I have on my 99. I looked into the floorboard mounts and figured that they would hit the engine guards. These are nice because there is to much adjustability in them. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=42&Category_ID=6&manufacturer_ID=16&product_ID=7744
  4. Just think if that ref in the Miami/Ohio State Championship game hadn't thrown that flag for pass interference about 10 minutes late then the Buckeyes would be 0 for 3. To be honest they never played anybody and of the 2 teams that were good, one beat them and the other almost did. LSU was tested and tested hard all year. I am not a SEC fan, but they have some great teams and are obviously the dominant conference at this time. Ohio State was out played and out coached last night. Congrats to LSU well done.
  5. Being alert saved you from serious injury. Good Job.
  6. I personally would like to see a better focused picture before giving my opinion. With it so out of focus I couldn't make a judgment either way.
  7. I am with Jeff on this one. I get 4 to 5 mpg better in the cold.
  8. Haven't the Metzler's had a reputation for chunks of tread separating from the tire?
  9. Ok first let me say that I am glad that everybody is safe and relatively well considering the circumstances. Not to knock anyone but this is actually the first time I have heard of a rear tire blow-out on the RSV. I'm sure there have been more, but it really doesn't sound like an epidemic. We still don't know whether or not there was something in the tire. Yes we should check the tire pressures, that's a given. These are BIG motorcycles and we put our lives on the line every time you throw your leg over it. Accidents do happen, parts do fail. We can't control what happens, we can only try to prevent it. Proper maintenance and care of the motorcycle can give you peace of mind, but it can't prevent all accidents. I mean no disrespect to anyone and believe me I feel for you guys, it's great that you guys are safe and sound. It just sounds like some people are getting scared instead of informed. We can't let "The Sky is Falling" syndrome to get into our heads or we might as well park these beasts. Guess I will step down off my soapbox now. Sorry, I just felt it needed to be said.
  10. I guess the question to you would be. Are you, yourself trying to manufacture one? If you are looking to find one made by another manufacture, the only one that I know of is made by Works Performance and they actually build it to suit your bike, weight, and riding style. In answer to your original question I do have my blown one. Been holding onto it in case my Works Performance shock ever went out and I had to send it back for a rebuild. Had it on for 10 months now and couldn't be happier.
  11. Well what works for me is laying down and putting my mp3 player ear phones in and listening to soft classical guitar music. I have it just barely loud enough to hear and just tune into the music. Within 10 minutes I am out and usually wake up long enough to turn the player off and put it on the night stand. I wouldn't suggest any over the counter sleep aids this late in the game because it might make things hard to get going when you do get up. The music takes my mind off things and allows me to just focus on it. I do this every time I can't get to sleep. I had an accident in November, got T boned in my car and had a real hard time sleeping. I kept seeing that bumper coming at me through my drivers window. This method helped me get to sleep.
  12. Way to go Lowell, the wife and I stopped August of 06 cold Turkey. It was the best thing we ever did. Saved plenty of money and were able to take trips we never could afford before. Neither of us can stand the smell of cigs anymore. Don't know what we ever saw in them. Keep it up, it's worth it in the long run.
  13. After getting the end caps off I used WD 40 and stuck the straw up under the rubber, sprayed a little, twisted some and ran it further up sprayed some more and it twisted right off.

  15. WOOOO HOOOO mine arrived today, they look superb. Great job Don as usual.
  16. Both of mine do it and so does my friends 2003.
  17. All I got was a ROCK!!! LOL my bell didn't make it yet. Hopefully they will be in the mail today.
  18. Thanks Don. Great job as always.
  19. I like to crank the scoot point it in any direction and go until I get hungry, eat lunch and then start to work my way back home. Usually I have no destination, and that's when I can find some hole in the wall places with interesting stuff to see. I will usually put between 250 and 300 miles on a trip like this, which for me is just about every Saturday except during August.(just too hot) Group riding is different and I would suggest a break every 75 miles or so. Find interesting sites along the way, scenic overlooks and such for individual and group picture taking. A nice place to eat along the way and if it's planned to be an overnight ride a hotel that everyone can stay at. Just my thoughts.
  20. I bought a 99 with 42,000 miles on it and no warranty without hesitation. Of course I had already owned a 99 and put 37,000 miles on that one and knew the quality of the bike. I personally would question a touring bike that was a few years old and didn't have 8,000 to 10,000 miles per year on it. I have had this one for 10 months and have put 18,0000 miles on it.
  21. It's not hard to change out the shock if you have a lift. Just remove the rear tire and there are 2 bolts that need to be removed to drop the shock. The problem is finding a shock. They are out there and they run anywhere from 350 to 600 for stock shocks. The only replacement shock is made by Progressive Works and they are around 680 I think, but they are much better than stock and do not require air. They are made individually for your bike and riding style. If interested contact RickH at www.buckeyeperformance.com Since the stock shock has a high failure rate I would suggest going to the Performance Works shock since it can be rebuilt.
  22. I have Michilen Commanders on my bike and with 16,000 miles I am now at the wear indicators. I never got more than 8,000 out of any other tire including Avon Venoms.
  23. So what the insurance companies are saying is that "Your credit NOT your driving record" drives how much you pay? That makes no sense. Anyway I wouldn't deal with progressive if they offered me full coverage for $1.00 a year. Everyone I talked to told me how good progressive was and I should check them out. Well I did and went online to get a "QUOTE" and while I was filling out the forms online I couldn't remember what the coverages required by the Base I work on. So I "STOPPED" the process, intending to get the needed information and then finish. Well 3 weeks later I get a letter from the NCDMV stating that Progressive has informed them that I "canceled" my insurance with them and no longer had any insurance on my vehicles. So I had to jump through hoops to get the needed information and prove that I still had insurance through another company. One which I have been with for 25 years. So I wouldn't advise anybody to go with Progressive.
  24. I have an XM Roady on my bike. I didn't install it but it's mounting bracket was glued to the cassette cover with what looks like Marine 2000 adhesive. I use the Aux plug which is wired into the connector in the front faring. The antenna is mounted on top of the brake reservoir. I used the cigarette lighter power cord and ran it into the front faring where I put a split cigarette lighter socket in, to power my GPS off the same circuit. I have been through some rain storms and it stays pretty dry. You can get a plastic, shower cap type cover to go over it online, just to be safe.
