The basic economic rule of "supply and demand" is at work here. When auto manufacturers need to move/eliminate inventory they can only do so by providing pricing incentives. There's only two ways to do this: lower the original purchase price and/or lower the interest rate on the financing. Keep in mind that low interest rate offerings are a bit of a marketing ploy. The number of people that will actually obtain incentive rates is quite limited, since your credit score typically needs to be above 700 to qualify. Terry

Well, Nathan, truth be told, you had a sizable head start and were in "full saw" by the time the rest of us got to bed. I figured that if I wanted to sleep I would just have to run my saw louder than yours! Terry

South Carolina Meet & Eat Recap!
Blackjack replied to Sleeperhawks Mechanic's topic in Watering Hole
A nice ride home was the perfect ending to a fantastic SC Meet & Eat weekend! Heartfelt thanks to George and Bobbie for being such wonderful and gracious hosts! And yes, Bobbie really is "all that" when it comes to making and baking remarkable pies and other assorted goodies. Thanks, also, to everyone that attended for making it such a lively and memorable event. It was great to be with so many friends, old and new... Terry -
A headlight modulator is a visibility "tool". Accordingly, as the user of the tool, it is up to me to consider and determine when, where, and how best to use it. I turn the modulator on when I am in open road riding conditions and when I am in non-congested traffic. If I am in stop-and-go traffic I turn it off because it serves no purpose. When I approach an intersection, I turn it off, so that it cannot be misconstrued as a "signal". In my experience the modulator has proven to be very effective when used in this manner. I can attest that on any number of occasions it has caused persons approaching me and/or in front of me to better notice me. I have modulators on both of my bikes and will also install one right away on any bike I buy in the future. Why? Because utilized properly, it does what it's designed to do, which is increase my visibility. Terry

For what it's worth, I would suggest that your son needs to find out what the protocol is for challenging the decision of this council and he should, with your support and assistance, pursue every possible remedy, perhaps even legal! He should not stop or give up until a satisfactory ruling is provided. He must not and cannot accept anything less than a favorable outcome. Additionally, he should immediately request (demand, actually) that his roommate be removed into different living quarters, given the grievous, dishonest, and compromising nature of his behavior. The "life lesson" that needs to be learned here is that, when necessary, you have to fight for what's right and that anything less than a victory is just not acceptable. Terry

All I can do is cry... Janis and I express our deepest regrets and wish for Gary a speedy recovery and the strength to carry on. Terry

I have used the same device as Neil86 for over 10 years! The only thing you have to clean when you're done is the funnel section, which is quick and easy. After that it easily stores until you need it again or it gets full. When it does get full I take it to a nearby Pep Boys and empty it in their oil barrel, at no charge! Terry

Congratulations on getting the job you wanted, Clay, and Thank You! for continuing your career in public service, first as a soldier and now in law enforcement. Those who "serve and protect" are, without doubt, the front line in keeping the dream alive... Terry

For anyone that lives within striking distance of Birmingham AL (or for that matter, anyone wanting to take a road trip!), the 3rd Annual Vintage Festival takes place Oct. 19-21 at the Barber Motorsports Park. Here's a link to follow for more info: http://www.barbermotorsports.com/events/barber/event-ahrma-general.php We included the Museum during last years' AL Meet & Eat. It is an amazing and highly-recommended place to visit! Terry

Our thoughts, prayers, and best wishes go to David's family at this tragically difficult time. After reading the article and the comments, including some from David's family members, we will also keep in mind the young driver involved, whose life will be forever changed by this incident, as well. I have always followed a simple rule when interacting with others: if I ask you for help or assistance with something (which I only do when absolutely necessary), and you tell me "No!", what I hear you say is "I don't know!". Accordingly, since you obviously can't or won't help me, I just move up the chain until I get help from someone who actually is competent and/or capable. So, in logical order, it would be Mechanic> Service Manager> Owner of Dealership. If that yields no positive or workable results, you would then request the name of the Yamaha Area Rep and start the process all over again. No great or noble purpose can be served when one accepts "No!" as an answer... Terry

Ron, As family-in-kind, please know that we all, in some small way, share in your grief. This senseless loss of life is both incomprehensible and unacceptable! There are, essentially, two kinds of people in the world: those who consider life precious and those who just don't consider! How sad and tragic that the first group can be so easily compromised by the second. Our regards and best wishes to all directly affected by this tragedy... Terry

Apparently the dealers can't distinguish between "nobody", who they can't possibly do business with, and "somebody", who they could. Shame on them for second-guessing their market rather than serving it... Terry

Thanks, everyone, for all of the input and responses. It has been most helpful! Keeping in mind your comments, and after comparing a bunch of meters for range and function capabilities at the local stores, I made the modest purchase of a Sperry SP-10A for $14 at Home Depot. Hopefully, it will prove sufficient. Thanks, again! Terry

Todd told me the story about how he acquired the truck and what it is, but I think it best if he tells the tale himself, especially since he spins such a good yarn! He probably wouldn't mind me telling you, though, that the truck is older than he is... Terry

I spoke with Todd this afternoon via cellphone and he is doing fine! Actually, he's not far from home, after a full month on the road, driving his new truck (very old, actually!) with the Venture along for the ride in the back. We'll likely get a post from him later today or early tomorrow... Terry

I want to acquire a voltmeter that I can use on my scoots. What would those of you that already have one recommend? Terry

For what it's worth... This is a Forum, and as such, already covers all the ways in which a significant quantity of information can be easily and reasonably disseminated to an ever-increasing number of people. It also provides, via threads and PMs, various means of communication which can be utilized by its members. A Newsletter will likely prove to be an extraordinary amount of work that will only provide a nominal amount of information at any one time, information already available on the Forum. At its' very best, then, it will merely prove to be limited in scope and redundant in nature. Those of us who visit frequently do so because what we find here is valuable to us. The responsibility (and desire) to stay informed is mine: if I miss a ride or an event, that's on me, and no one else! This is simple: if you don't visit the Forum at regular intervals, you will surely miss out on something. If you don't want to miss out on something, visit the Forum at regular intervals... Terry
