  1. Those that attended the North GA M&E last weekend got to see a live presentation and performance by the Motorman and the Ride Like A Pro Team at the Great American Motorcycle Show held in Norcross GA. Practice may not make you perfect, but it will make you better! Terry
  2. I wear a 3/4 helmet and prefer the extra protection of polycarbonate shades that fit over my prescription glasses. If something airborne hits me in the face, it hits the plastic, not the glass. The lens are gray, which is the least color-distorting. I also wear yellow fit-overs for night-riding, which brightens everything. Available at Walgreens and Wally World for $10-$20. Terry
  3. Welcome back into the sunshine, JB! Terry
  4. A phenomenal machine! On a closed course or track, I would love to play, but never, ever, on the street... Terry
  5. You just won't let up, will you Don? Thanks, yet again, that's a great feature! Terry
  6. It's almost time for the next monthly M&E (February 9th), so please read the invitation posted in the Meet and Eat section for more details. We hope you'll join us... Terry
  7. Thanks BlackJack for standing up for me, Jeff I am proud and honored to "have your back", my friend, anytime! By the way, remember what you told me about 2nd Gens at the Texas Roadhouse when we all met for the SC Meet & Eat? Well, just between you and I, you were absolutely right... Terry
  8. "depends if they want to continue with the Harley look or go back to compete with the Wing. Be cheaper to spruce up a Stratoliner" Yamaha apparently gave up trying to compete with the Wing when they stopped making the 1st Gen, and it seems they have little to no chance of ever getting back into that game. I don't see how they could possibly make up for the 15 years of lost time in development. Whether or not you want to call it "the Harley look", Yamaha (now Star) has built a very solid reputation with its' cruiser line. I'm thinking they will actually be more competitive with HD if they switch to the big V-twin. Accordingly, I'm betting the Stratoliner/Roadliner will get "dressed up" and become the next generation Venture. Terry
  9. Hell will only freeze over when you own a 2nd Gen, Jeff, not when you ride one to help someone out! I can personally attest to that since I have recently ridden a 2nd Gen on two occasions and the earth's axis did not budge even a little bit. The Angel of Mercy stuff buys you a pass, in case you didn't know... Terry
  10. Regarding the motor, it seems to me the choices for the future of the Venture are down to: stick with the current 1300 V-4 upgrade to the new 1800 V-4 that's proposed for the next V-Max convert to the 1854 V-twin already in the Stratoliner, Roadliner and the new RaiderAny bets on the table? Terry
  11. Actually, since the 07 season there have been designated "Star" motorcycles and there have been designated "Yamaha" motorcycles. Generally, the Star brand includes all the cruiser models and the Yamaha brand includes the off-road and sportbike models. Terry
  12. Did you forget, Todd, that I'm just trying to help out a friend in need? Besides that, you know me well enough by now to realize that I will gladly and quickly jump on anything with two wheels and a motor just to see what happens! Rest assured, the ever-wonderful 83 will continue to have a home with me. I lucked into one awesome bike and I'm not letting go... Terry
  13. Congratulations, Kit, on your new ride! I am quite sure that you will enjoy your new beast for many years to come. Yesterday afternoon, my neighbor/riding buddy Kenny showed up unexpectedly in my driveway, and my jaw dropped a bit as I went out to greet him. Why? Because he was not riding the Venture he acquired last May, but was sitting astride a brand new Wing! I asked him if he was test-riding the bike and he said "uh, no, I bought it last night!" After looking it over and admiring it together, he suggested that I go get my jacket and gear to take it out for a spin. I said I would love to, but then thought we should go for a ride together. He liked that idea because he wanted to see how the two bikes matched-up on the road. We went to his house to pick up the Venture and off we rode, he on the Venture and myself on the Wing. After about 10 miles we switched bikes, and kept doing that every so often during our 60-70 mile sojourn, some in traffic and some in the open countryside. The results? Honestly, there is no correct way to even try to compare a newer Venture and a Wing, just as there is no appropriate way to compare the 1st and 2nd Gen Ventures. They are completely and extraordinarily different motorcycles! I do think, however, that the Wing is more like a 1st Gen turned into a Cadillac. It is smooth, fast, easy to ride and is completely tricked-out. Like I said, I am sure you will enjoy your new ride... Terry
  14. Virtually all of the "work-at-home" offers are actually disguised marketing scams. You will spend money out-of-pocket attempting to obtain business for the company you work for and then will only be rewarded with compensation if and when a customer actually bites. This technically provides the company with an employee that doesn't cost them anything! Regrettably, most of the offers to start an actual home-based business also lead nowhere, although there are a small number that are bonafide. By bonafide, I mean that you are able to affiliate with a company that provides a desirable product or service at a fair market price. The bottom line in business is that one must sell and provide a product or service to another party in exchange for consideration (usually cash!). That's why, although the theory is actually sound, most (but not all) multi-level marketing companies don't work: the product is over-priced and you and everyone else that joins become a supposed wholesale consumer rather than a salesman. So, be wary and be careful! There are good companies out there, but they are few and very far between... Terry
  15. That's a healthy-looking impact! I hope the soreness goes away quickly and that no additional problems come your way. I'm glad it was only a "close one"... Terry
  16. I hope you can make it, yamahamer! We'll look forward to seeing you there... Terry
  17. This weekend finds the return of the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show to the World Congress Center in Atlanta. This show is huge! All the major manufacturers will have their full line of cycles displayed and it's also a great opportunity to see an endless variety of after-market accessories as well as helmets, gloves, tires and all sorts of other gear. There's a discount available if you buy your ticket in advance online and there's also a list available of local shops that can provide you with a discount coupon, if that's easier. Janis and I have found that going early on Sunday provides the least amount of hassle and the most enjoyment, since the large crowds usually show up on Saturday and there's significantly less Atlanta traffic to contend with! http://www.motorcycleshows.com/motorcycleshows/static/staticHtml.jsp?id=359197 If you do happen to be there on Sunday, let's meet at the Yamaha display at 2PM! 19. Please note that this message was also posted in the Meet & Eat section, since some folks are reading that thread in lieu of this one: A big round of applause and my very special Thanks! go to everyone that attended the inaugural North GA Monthly M&E yesterday, especially since there was less than a week's notice and the day started out in the mid to low 30s. Forum Members: WitchDoctor Gray Ghost Chas brokespur Eck royalstarjac geretsi Fly-N-Lo DragonRider 86er Guests: Paula French Elizabeth Fargason Justin Dulgar Sharron King Kenny McCombs As has been mentioned in previous posts, and confirmed by a number of personal comments, a very good time was indeed had by all. The cool morning started off with lots of hugs and coffee in the Cracker Barrel parking lot as everyone arrived. We were soon seated for breakfast at two adjacent tables which were comfortably close to the amazingly warm fireplace. The conversation was lively as we ate until the biscuits and gravy started coming out our ears. This month's prize, a $10 Cracker Barrel Gift Card, was awarded to our good friend Eck for having traveled the longest distance to arrive at the M&E: his one-way total was 183.5 miles. We all know that Venture Riders will go to any length for food and friendship, and that has been proven yet again. After a brief stop at a nearby outfitters, where 86er and I both obtained a likely illegal but none-the-less way-cool flashing led safety vest (for way less than half-price, mind you! http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/ta...Fresults%2Etam), we took off for a delightful group ride (ably led by 86er) through the rambling and beautiful countryside. In the course of time our numbers dwindled by ones and twos as folks turned off to head home and to other destinations. As you've already seen in the posted photos, the six remaining riders (86er, DragonRider, royalstarjac, Chas, Kenny McCombs and myself) purposefully and appropriately found our way to the official pitstop of VR.Org, aka Dairy Queen! Once we got back on our scoots it wasn't too far down the road before we honked and waved and shouted good-bye, then headed home. I'm especially grateful to 86er, DragonRider, and Fly-N-Lo, who have not only shown support for the idea to have monthly get-togethers, but have also agreed to be co-hosts for these events throughout the year. And yes, that really is a picture of me on a 2nd Gen! My friend and guest Kenny had offered to let me ride his 07 and was very interested in riding my 83. Since it is reasonably beyond the purview of this post, I will refrain from letting you know my opinion at this time... I hope you'll join us for the next one, to be held on Saturday, February 9th. Stay tuned for location details. Terry
  20. Your story is not only incredible, it also provides very apparent testimony to your upbeat spirit and positive attitude! Sincere Best Wishes! for a complete and speedy recovery... Terry
  21. That's a great article! I thought the most insightful quote was: "You don't dress for the weather," he said. "You dress for the crash." Terry
  22. That's a great program. How very nice to see a state government show that kind of support for the motorcycling community! Terry
  23. Please check out this thread in the Meet & Eat section: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=163188#post163188 If you live anywhere within reasonable (OK, unreasonable works just as well!) riding distance of metro Atlanta, please join us when you can for a great get-together. I will be sure to post the changing location monthly. Terry
  24. Has anybody here ever gone on one of these excursions? These trips look rather fascinating, albeit quite expensive! http://www.aerostichtours.com/ Terry
  25. Janis and I send our sincere best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery... Terry
