  1. Thanks for all the tips and no, it isn't bent. I had just rather it open up farther. I knew If it could be done, someone on this site has already done it. I see I'm not the only one that wants a little more room to get, say, a full face helmet in and out. Thanks again folks!
  2. Any problems show up after doing this?
  3. Seems like I've seen a post on here before about the trunk lid stay being changed but I can't find it now. Has anyone else ever modified the trunk lid to open farther? I don't see why it can't open all the way up to 90 degrees or even so far as to let the backrest lie on the rear seat. What are your thoughts or links?
  4. !00% of the time. If it's cold or raining I wear a modular. Rest of the time I wear a 1/2. It's kinda like the seatbelt laws. I didn't like it to start with, but now if I don't buckle up, within the first mile, something doesn't feel right and I tell everyone "I feel like I'm falling out". Ask a racecar driver if he would drive in any race without the a restraint system or a helmet. Same with a helmet. Once I start backing out of the carport, something doesn't feel right, then I remember there was something else I needed to do. The Good Lord kept my head from popping like a watermellon once when I was riding in a dunebuggy without seatbelt. My head was pushed literally down into the ground. That's a hard lesson to forget. I don't like Big Brother dictating what I should or should not do either, but statistics show saftey gear works more often than not.
  5. :confused24::confused24: Ditto Bubber???????????????
  6. I usually use the type plugs that others have mentioned here but these look to have an advantage over the kind I currently keep in my saddlebag. I didn't see if the installation process involved rasping the hole out but I never liked the idea of making a small hole bigger during installation. I know this is suppose to "clean" the hole but sometimes it just looks rediculous. By the way, I've never had one come out either but I believe that is because I generally keep an eye on it for a week or so. I have had one a time or two to try to back out, but never completely. I have used the inside of the tire patch on several occassions. Never had one of those to give a problem either. I think a lot of times when people have problems with either it's because they, or the one installing the repair, get in a hurry and don't take all the necessary precautions to prevent the repair from turning loose, such as cleaning the area to be repaired. Sorry about the rambling but that's just been my experience. Above all else do the safe thing when it comes to your tires. It's kinda like your feet...,when something happens to them, most all other things come to a screeching halt.
  7. http://www.bikebandit.com/assets/schematics/Yamaha/YA0409055004.gif Number 11 is the drain screw. This picture is from a 2009. All 2 gen. should be similiar. In fact all models should be similiar. The bowl is located on the bottom side of the carbs. Each carb has it's own bowl. Hope this helps.
  8. Anyone looking to buy a tool like this should consider alternatives before deciding on a particular one. Each type has ardent followers and detractors. Personally, I dislike the Carbtune because it tends to stick so much and cannot be calibrated. I prefer the mechanical vacuum gauges - very rugged, reasonable price, and can be calibrated. Goose Yea, to each his own!!
  9. I got mine from Morgan Carbtune in GB. Check out their website. And believe it or not my bike had just finished the SS1000 four state Iron Butt Ride and some said I went too fast. Go figure!
  10. Hey ya'll, I finally bit the bullet and purchased the Carbtune Pro carb synchronizer. Let me say first that if you're looking to buy a carb synhronizer and have a little extra money go ahead and invest in this. It is so easy to use, you'll redo the job several times just because you can!!! I paid a little over a hundred bucks for it and the case. Took about 10 business days to get it but it is well worth it. I got out the '99 Vmax today and warmed it up and synced the carbs on it today in about 10 minutes. Believe it or not, after 32,000 miles, it was in better shaped than the RSV which only has 11,000 miles on it. Anyway, below are the before and after pics of the RSV. Thought ya'll might be interested. Some have said these bikes come from the dealer out of sync. Now I believe it!!
  11. Might want to check to see if the air pressure in both trailor tires are equal. Just my worth. Hope you figure it out. Keep us posted 'cause I'm probably going that way(CT) soon.
  12. Well, I'm just an ole country boy. I wear the same type clothes wherever you happen to see me. Blue jeans, casual shirt(usually plaid or a t-shirt), boots. The only thing that changes is whether or not I have a helmet on. I'm just me. I quit trying to impress others about 40 years ago. I just love to ride. Some say too fast! HaHa. But I do get a kick out of seeing others trying to be what they think a "biker" should be. Me, I'm just a working Joe who uses his bike everyday as well as when he gets a little "time off". It's my main means of transportation wherever, whenever. Oh yea, you might see me wearing a rainsuit too.
  13. Hey Ted, What kind of rainsuit did you have on? It must have been invisible!! Yor arse was about frozen a time or two. Can I help it if you guys didn't want to ride fast?? You should have said something. I was ready to get back and out of the rain. Tony did say once that he was having to push it to keep up. But he also said it kept him from getting tired and sleepy. Anyway, I really enjoyed the ride, rain and all. Met two good friends.
  14. So, Who makes the tires that Harley puts their name on?
  15. I took my RSV back to the dealer for a general going over before a trip to Virginia about a month after I got it. They decided the carbs were running a little lean so they adjusted them a little richer. Afterwards the mechanic took it out for a spin and said he had to adjust the idle just a little also. We talked for awhile and When I got on it to go home, I noticed something wasn't just right. As I left the dealer the bike seemed like it was dragging a log. While I was trying to decide to turn around and take it back, I pulled it over to take a look myself. What I found made me lose all confidence that I might have had with the mechanic. The left rear sparkplug wire was not connected! When I put it back on the engine revved way up. I remembered him telling me he had to adjust the idle. How Stupid can you be!!! Naturally he had to adjust the idle, there were only 3 cylinders firing!! I promised the "Big Gal" right then and there that no one else would turn a wrench or adjust anything on her unless I just absolutely couldn't get the help to do it myself. Thanks to this fine group that I've met online I think there will always be someone here with the right answer and know how to direct me to do just that. Anyway, you might want to check those wires because the bike is suppose to run like a stripped a$$ ape!!! Mine does.
  16. :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:More like an infection than addiction!!!!
  17. Well, I've got a Shinko Tourmaster 230 on the back of my Vmax with 5,000 miles and it needs to be replaced. Granted the RSV doesn't have the hp that the Vmax does but it does have the extra weight. I haven't done the first burnout with this tire and it definitely has not been abused. As far as ride, it's great!!! Quiet, sticky in the corners, and smooth. Just not a long wearing tire,IMHO. Probably won't be using this tire on the RSV. On the Vmax, good possibly.Just my worth.
  18. Hey c'mon guys it was just a question. No need to get your panties all in a wad. Seriosly this is the response I was expecting . I'm sure everyone that hauls their bike has a good reason. I'm not saying we should ride everywhere we go. But yet isn't thast why you bought the bike in the first place? Or was it simply because you wanted to be a B-I-K-E-R. Some people just like so SAY they own a bike. In my case, Ill be glad when I get to the point in my life that I can take off from work long enough to ride all 49 states and Canada. Until then I'll just have to make do with 1000 to 1500 miles on a weekend. After all you've got to have the PASSION for riding! Or, just be CRAZY, like me!! I told you all in the beginning that I was going to stir it!! Thanks for all the responses. Now enough talk, Let's go ride!!!
  19. Here's a question just to see what the answers will be. Just curious. I do a good bit of riding and notice this alot. Why do riders of certain bikes(read-"American made") haul their bikes around on trailers or the back of pickups? Yea, I'm gonna stir it up now!!! Heh Heh Heh:duck::duck:
  20. Forget the suction mount. It's totally useless on the handlebars of a bike. When you least expect it, it will turn loose. Go with some sort of fixed mount. You could, as others have said, glue the mount on permanently, put a screw through it, or just throw it away and go for the Ram mount. You'll wind up losing the unit if you think it's gonna stay on. Trust me on this!!
  21. I' like for some of you guys to post a picture of the tire swap. A friend of mine as well as myself are interested in this also. We're both nearing a tire change and would like to see the end results as well as hear about the whole experience!!! He has a 06 Goldwing and I have a 09 RSV.

    Proud Papa

Fort Sill, Oklahoma, now that brings back some memories!!!! In 1983 I spent 13 weeks in the "Old WWII barracks" from Febuary to May. I pushed half of Oklahoma into Texas there. The wind in Tornado Alley blew that same half right back. Miserable time!! I wish all of our 18 year olds could experience a similiar time of growing into manhood and womanhood. As bad as it was I think( I know) it made me a better person. Tell them to take whatever the DI's tell them to do, to suck it up and truck on!!! Good luck and THANKS!!!
  23. You can't fix STUPID.
  24. Well us frogs have to have our water along the way or we get dried out!!! But then when we get too much water we become Wild Hogs and have to pull over more often. Since we ride everyday It's a convenience to get off work and run downtown to get some lunch and bring it back to the worksite. But then again I realize some only ride on the weekend or when it's not raining or maybe get only 20 miles a month on their Har.., er, uh, bikes. Frogs have a need for water. Real bikers have a need for riding!!! I'm both!!!
  25. Rotors are a little pricey, so I went with the EBC rated GG pads for relacement on the rear of my RSV. $30.76 out the door @ Capitol Cycle in Macon, GA. yesterday. Good pads.
