  4. All that is called for at 600 miles is an oil change, and check a few things for adjustment, etc. No real service did mine myself, and as far as the 4000 mile service, there is also mothing major that gets done. My service manager told me just change the oil and dump the rear oil as well, and save myself some money as long as it is running great and there are no abnormal noises. As far as changing the rear end oil well, there will be some metal filings, and it is not necessarily a waqste to do so, but not mandatory. Maybe hold off on the rear end until 1000 miles or so, then agsain at 4000...

  22. Actually, the stator fix came mid '84. Used ones can usually be bought for around $25, and the higher output aftermarket ones go for around $130 give or take. As long as it starts and runs and doesn't leave a trail of smoke, jump on it if it is a good price. A good price would be around $3000 give or take...
  23. I kind of expected you would see a bulge in the top where the electrolyte blew out. Just hope the circuit breaker kicked in before the motor windings fried...

  25. it's probably blown! If you had an old analog meter you could put the leads on the cap one way, and reverse the leads and watch the meter. You should read infinity ohms both directions, but when you reverse the leads you should read zdero for a split sec`ond and watch the meter rise to infinity. The capacitor is needed to start the motor, and from what you are describing, it bit the big one...
