  1. Lots of good advise here, personally, unless it's pretty spotless and shows VERY well, $4K is about a realistic price. The 65K isn't a big deal, if it's been maintained well. I would want to see receipts either for the owner buying oil and such, or a dealer invoice if it was performed by a dealer. The stator replacement I would want to know who did it. I am fairly good at doing them, having 6 under my belt. I still had some issues with leaks around the wires and I'm anal on cleaning all the surfaces. What I'm driving to is making sure it was done properly. The valve job is a reasonable size job, and at 65K it's about time to check them. If your handy, it's just time, but if your a bit apprehensive then a dealer is the best bet.
  2. Perry, I will be home by 4:30 after work on Friday, bring the bike and we'll put her in the garage. Looking very forward to seeing y'all again, been way too long my friend. Paul, I was really hoping you would be able to make it, but like I mentioned, you dont need a MD to get over here and have the bike worked on. Whenever you can get the time, let me know and we'll make a weekend out of it. Feel free to bring your daughter too, I dont know where y'all live, but were in the sticks and it's very peaceful out here. We'll catch up with you when things slow down a bit for you
  3. Unless you have some contaminants in the fuel system (small particles) perhaps a float was soaked and a bit heavy. Did you put new floats needles in when you broke the carbs apart? Did you try to tap on the bowl and see if the fuel would stop flowing? A few more specifics and I'm sure we can track it down
  4. I have the tire and rim thats on the '99 in the garage, we got it covered Hey folks, If you have a couple of chairs you can bring with you, that would be great. We have some, but not enough for everyone. Been busy getting some wood cut up for the bon fire, were pretty much ready to go besides the typical last minute stuff. Getting excited to see everyone on Saturday!
  5. I had one, and your right, it was scary fast, wish I still had it
  6. Wanted to mention that we are going to have a set of 2nd gen carbs that we will be setting the floats on. George C has his carbs off his '07 and we will pull them apart and clean them out and set the floats if they need it. The grub is gonna be great, Halmost There is going to bring his new bbq grill and will do some ribs and chickens. We have dogs and burgers, I'll be deep frying a turkey and we'll do another turkey in Hal's cooker. There will be a couple cheesecakes and all the rest of the fixin. if nothing else show up to eat, there's gonna be plenty. If folks have any questions get ahold of me, looking forward to Saturday...it's gonna be great! BTW, this a rain or shine event, the garage is 1200 sq ft and we can get lots of bikes in there to work on
  7. We were looking forward to seeing you folks but I understand things happen.
  8. What a shame, too young to not have your Mother and Wife. All the best to the family.
  9. Ummmm...no
  10. Thank you my friend, we will definitely keep that in mind when making plans to get over there
  11. Seems to me that there is that one, or another Ventures song on the Potato Creek DVD that Floyd made way back in '05 when we were just a wee lad of a website
  12. If you leave by tomorrow, you'll be here just in time
  13. I wanted to chat a minute with this being less than a week away. If you have hand tools you can bring with you, please do. I have lots of tools here, but the more tools we have available the more we can get done and faster. I also want to mention to folks that are new with the Maintenance Day get together. This is a learning day, we have no problem jumping into as big a project as you want, but you will need to be hands on with your machine. I dont say this to be mean, but there have been past times where folks have shown up and someone started to work on their bike and the owner has walked off and visited while someone else did the work on their bike. Thats not what this is about, it's about learning how to do your own maintenance on your bike. We will gladly share knowledge with any and everyone. I will be getting a turkey for the deep frier, there will be dogs and burgers here. If anyone has a specialty dish they make well and want to bring that, please do. This is looking to be atleast 20 people for sure and it could be up to 40. Like I mentioned plenty of room to camp and set up tents/popups here. The house is pretty much filled but there could be some floor space squeaked out. Call me if you have any questions. I am in the process of cleaning the garage up, and getting maximum floor space available. We can pretty easily park a dozen bikes in the garage. Looking forward to seeing everyone, be safe getting here and we'll see y'all next Friday/Saturday!
  14. We'll work on that Steve, pretty nuts right now here. My Dad is planning on coming down to Texas 1st of December. We are planning on going west to San Antonio, perhaps we can catch up with y'all while were over there It will be great having you here, even if it's for a short visit Dave. You'll be surprised at how far it's come
  15. It will be good, you can bet on that
  16. I love you guys! Y'all are still wanting to help me after 4 years Seriously though, for those that chimed in and put up information, it is very much appreciated. You can never tell when someone else will need info and this brings it back up to date with good information
  17. Thanks again everyone, I ended up calling off on Friday and took a 3 day weekend (didn't hurt my feeling that work ticked me off the day before)
  18. Thats interesting to know, I have never heard of anything past an '87 (Canadian Model)
  19. When the snot in your nose freezes up within 2 minutes!
  20. Lewis, Something I ran across when I switched over to the delink system on the front of this '86 I have. Depending upon if they used different lines and/or banjo bolts. Not all banjo bolts are the same. The ones on the original Venture have a strait shoulder and the fitting is channeled. Newer lines have a strait surface on the ID of the line fitting and the banjo bolt has a channel in it. Here is a write up I did on my findings. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65356&highlight=Banjo+Bolt
  21. Absolutely, you and all the warriors make us very proud
  22. Yeah, so what, you can be easily bribed with Ice Cream there Buddy!
  23. George, I am almost positive that the G2 coil is a molded unit, 1 piece. I dont think there is any way you can screw a plug wire cap onto the body. I have coils on this '99 I have in pieces, but I dont know that any of them are bad. I can send you some pics of them if that would help you at all?
  24. Thats the same color combo BradT had with his 1st Venture. It was a Canadian issued color and didn't sell in the states. It also sounds like its the one of the last made standards. If I'm not mistaken all of the US based MKII's starting in '86 were royals with all the bells and whistles.
  25. We know how you OLD guys need your naps...there is a nice hammock underneath 2 shade trees here if you change your mind.
