  1. I received my Carbon One adapter w/legs ysterday. Today I installed the upper unit (fit perfectly), lifted the bike on my Sears ATV/MC lift and performed the Freebird recipe for tightening up the steering bearings. I now have tighter steering and all is well with the world.
  2. I had the same problem and really enjoyed other riders pointing it out to me. Everything worked just fine so I left them as a conversation piece. When the trunk needed replacing under warranty the dealer switched the antenna. There went my individuality.
  3. I appreciate the replies. I am going to talk with Race Tech tomorrow. The springs were not replaced at 49K but the Gold Emulator valves were installed. I may (after talking with RT) buy their h-d springs and rebuild the forks. It is just uncomfortable to ride and needs attention. Thanks again. Another reason for $12 well spent.
  4. My 02 RSMV with 112k needs the forks rebuilt again. I had this done over three years ago with the additions of Baron's gold emulators. It is now just like before, very rough on the road, rattling from hitting bumps and just plain annoying. When it was done before it was so solid for some time. Some suggestions would be appreciated. Could I drain and re-oil or do I need seals etc. There is no sign of leaking.
  5. Not that this applies, but we had a young male killed on I-85 Friday. He was doing + 100mph when he decided to impress his buddies and pop a wheelie. He lost it and hit a light pole and the motorcycle stopped 450ft further.
  6. First of all, how do you use it where a cannister filter is used? Second, how would you clean it properly? Other than that I have no issues with it if it works.
  7. You didn't ask the right people!!! I have run WWW since the first set of replacement tires in 03. I will say that then, nobody wanted Dunlop 404's since they had a problem with the white yellowing. That is why I went with the Metzler/Bridgestone combo.
  8. It is worthless now! They are on sale everywhere. Yamaha saw the writing on the wall and to get rid of inventory they installed it on all 09 Ventures and added $750 to the price of the bike. Win-win, they get rid of inventory and you pay retail for the accessory.
  9. I run the Dunlop 404 WWW and am pleased overall with the performance. I used to run Metzler 880 WWW front (they did not make a rear WWW then) with a Bridgestone WWW rear, but I hate the Bridgestone in rain and the Metzlers started to give me problems after the third one (belts breaking internally). The Dunlop won't give you the high miles, but at the price they handle very well and probable $ for $ are a great deal.
  10. That sounds like Big Tom's bike out of Florida. He had 200k on it at Star Days 2005 in St. Joseph MO. I thought his was a 1999 but I could be mistaken. I have 112k on my 2002 now, but I am not riding near what I used to. Age seems to make you want to take and air conditioned auto more than a naturely cooled two weeler. I still ride but summers keep me off the bike.
  11. I live in a rural area and about thrity minutes away there is a Yamaha dealer who has the absolutely best mechanic I have ever been around. He is Serbian and a five star Yamaha trained mechanic. Whatever he does is perfect. Problem is they over price their parts a lot. Now, about an hour away is the friendliest dealer with great parts department and pricing. They are the best place to buy a new machine also. But they have very mediocre mechanics. So I buy may parts from one and have the other install when I haven't the time to do my own work.
  12. Then in this circumstance, I would suggest you ride with the shorter wind screen. Everybody needs to accustom to their bike. A set of BUB mufflers or similar would do the same thing.
  13. I get mine from Walmart. They are sports glasses with wrap around. I have eye care insurance and it costs me about $35. I have been very pleased for four years with there products, and they are bifocal. I only use them for riding. I have other sunglasses for driving the truck or walking.
  14. It is in the right lower fairing and is a 5 amp. This I know!
  15. I purchased a new 66 Triumph Bonneville but did not like the white with orange stripe, so I had it painted black. Things went well until I was stopped in another state for a traffic ticket, then when they found the colors did not match the registration I spent a weekend in an Iowa county jail until they cleared it up on a Monday. Not much fun for a weekend meant to chase girls and party.
  16. I have been at more than two dozen FTC food drops, and there were hundreds of people in line needing help. Locally we help a charity house and unload the whole trailer, break out the contents and carry it into the pantry for later use. This trailer load will last two weeks. For me this is worthwhile. Where your satisfactions lie are up to you.
  17. Very diverse feelings being shown on this post. I have been a STAR member, officer, and national officer over the last eight years. You will get out of STAR what you put into STAR. Local membership is great and I belong to two chapters and associate with at least ten more. The local chapters all have different guidelines, meeting times and ride schedules. Whatever kind of motorcycle you ride is acceptable and welcome. Just like here on VR there is ribbing about bikes but all in good fun. The friends you meet are priceless!
  18. Interesting thought but at 63 years old I will let someone else find out. I know the Venture will light up the tire though (I was told). My 99 1600 Road Star would lift the front (I was told).
  19. I believe that I may make a proposal on a 2000 Kawasaki W650. Great performance and styling with a modern engine but 60's style.
  20. I was talking about the current models, Freebird. Thanks to all for the replys. I have the desire/urge/itch for something smaller for local riding. My buddy has a 06' RSV, 09' HD Ultra and an 06' Triumph Bonneville; I rode the Bonney a couple times. It is OK but I want something with class that performs a little better. I understand the new Bonnevilles have a little more performance and are redesigned. I also read that Norton is back in British hands and will be on the market in a year. I have ridden the 650 V-stars and they really suck for any performance.
  21. Does anyone have or have knowledge of the Royal Enfield line. I had a thumper (Meguro made by Kawasaki) in the 60s that I bought from a serviceman. It was a 250 and really could climb a hill. Also I had a 441 BSA that was a screamer for torque. I have been thinking of another.
  22. I would not sell my 02 RSMV for that price and it has 104,000 miles on it. You better grab it.
  23. I have an 02 RSMV with 104,000 miles. Lubed the splines at 55,000 miles and at 95,000 miles. Never had whine or clicking. Wash it when it is really dirty or every six months. Do oil and differential when necessary, and sync the carbs about every 40,000 miles. It runs great and needs nothing other than to be ridden. Also changed the anti freeze once.
  24. Whatever seat fits one person does not necessarily fit another. I tried Corbin, Mustang and settled on a gel pad inserted in the seat. For me it is great. Rick Butler does this kind of work, but I got it from some other company in 2003.
  25. Mine is made by J&M and is grounded with the trigger on the left handle to work with the "mike press to talk". I have had it on for four or five years but I don't believe they are available anymore.
