  1. Due to a recent family loss (My wifes step-Mom passed--she was step Mom for past 44 years.) we will not be able to attend. We will be going to East Texas to assist in handling Estate issues, moving furniture etc. I sure hope 2013 is better year since due to my/Lynns health etc I have missed every event for 2012 except 1. My health and lynns is finally on the mend somewhat. I also have a son and daughter in law moving in with us because he has MD and can no longer work so I also have to go to Round Rock in 2 weeks and move them down here to live with me and Lynn so likely all of November is going to be busy. We have known for years this would eventually happen and now we are dealing with how to move forward and handle the situation as best we can. The house is being remedeled to accomodate them this week. It will sure be nice when things finally get back to close to normal. :beersign::beersign::beersign: and I seldom drink!
  2. Looks like I will b e able to attend. Look forward to seeing everyone again.
  3. what he said. Its really important to practice practice practice what they have on the video and riding these will be fun instead of scary.
  4. I switched to the 130 front 2 years ago and what a world of difference on handling. Slower handling is vastly improved and even on a 2700 mile trip 2 years ago I never had an issue with my bike tracking bad on any type of road. Conering and working the twisties is greatly enhansed like you were on a new ride. Effortless steering though th twisties. I will never go back to a 150 for any reason. Just my Have a good week everyone.
  5. Due to continuing issues I am canceling this trip. Thanks to all those that replied. Hoepfully soon I will be able to take a trip without these health issues arising. Whatabummer!
  6. You can find a number of placed that sell the tank you need from salvage. Try ebay
  7. I have this setup too adn the handling at slow speeds is fantastic compared to the 150. I have ridden 2700 miles on a trip and never felt an issue on the freeway that some complain about. I will never go back to the 150 width.
  8. I have never gotten a pop up here and I visit daily.

  10. Is anyone going to this for 2012? I still have 2.5 weeks oif vacation and I am thinking about attending but would like to have company. It looks like this is a very large gathering and there would be some great rides out of the area as well as a number of events to participate in. Would welcome sharing a room in the area and perpahs a ride along on the way up from Houston area. I will probably head from Houston on Wednesday and stop just over the OK line for a night at the casino then head to Fayetteville thrusday morning and stay until Sunday morning. Anyone in Texas going? Anyone intrested in Meeting etc just let me know and we'll share numbers etc. I found a reltatively inexpensive room in Rogers Arkansas 10 miles frm Fayetteville as Fayetteville seems sold out already and would be willing to share with someone who needs a room. LEt me know and we'll get things going Link to event. http://www.bikesbluesandbbq.org/ James
  11. Big big group hug!!!!!!
  12. I second that!! I saved enough in repairs the first 6 months from the Maint Day activities to pay my dues for life.. I am a little old after all. Much less all the food I have ate at those functions. Secondly, I have met some of the best people on earth that are fund to be around and a very good group or "good" people. That alone is worth the $12. I dont care what Freebird'e memberships totals add up too. Just please keep the site open for us and keep having the Maintenance Days and Meet n Eats. I'd sign up for life if it was an option. My jb
  13. Just sent James my $ for 2 tickets. Sure could use that trailer. Good cause anyway.
  14. Been there done that. At least part of the way 2700 miles Texas to Mississippi North to North Carolina, then off to Virginia and back across Tennesse, Arkansas and Louisianna to Texas. Rode the Dragon and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I wanna go to Denver next maybe further north. These bikes run forever and it you can do your own maintenance there is not much to worry about plus you have members that will help in case of emergency. Ride it like you stole it.
  15. Years ago when I was down on my luck I decided I would have to try standing on a corner to get a few bucks since my unemployment had run out. I decided that first I needed more information so I went to a corner and asked them what I needed to do. They said just get a sign and look ragged. I made a sign and collected fifty grand the first two monts. Now being the kind of person that prefers to excel I had went home and made a sign that read "I NEED TEN MORE DOLLARS TO BE ABLE TO GO BACK HOME". man was everyone eager to give me money.
  16. Lasy year I took a 2500 mile ride that included the "dragon" and the "Blue Ridge Parkway" and I got there by using a Garmin. What I found was that when on the Dragon I could look ahead with the Garmin and see where the really blind curves were and adjust my riding accodingly. This may give you back the security to ride and not be afraid of nitting a curve when you are not set up correctly for that particular curve. In any case the best thing is Practice, practice practice. Get the DVD " Ride Like a Pro" and take the Advanced riders course. These will give you the confidence you need and the additional tips you pick up could save your life. Ride like everyone is trying to get you but learn to have a good time. AFter all that IS why we ride isnt it?
  17. Now legal in Texas too. no time frame

Yes you need to know that they feel "top heavy" but this can be changed with either switching to the narrower front tire or by lowering the back of the bike with lowering links. I used the Avon tire M90 I think on my 99 and the ride is completely different with the bike handling much much better and turns are much easier. Another thing is that this bike likes Revving. You will find it rides a lot better if you keep the revs up higher than you would on a bike like a Harley. THis bike loves the higher revs. Ride in a lower gear that you think necessary and keep the revs up and you will find the bike a lot more responsive and that it handles much better. The Venture will run forever with proper maintenance and if you watch this site you will eventually see a " Maintenance Day". Attend one and learn how to maintain you ride and keep it out of the "stealership". Almost anyone on this site will help and answer questions on how to accomplish various maint and installs as well as the tech section having numerous "how to" articles. That is what this forum is about...helping one another and enjoying our rides. Welcome to the family...
  19. I'll be there.
  20. Gunboat, Thanks for the update. Its great to hear that David is doing well. We all certainly wish him and Cathy Holidays and pray for a full recovery for David. He is loved by many of us and will be inour continues prayers. James
  21. Been there done that but I put the penny on the inside of the fin with tape and it works fine. Replace em when you get a chance.
  22. ACutally, the kindkle loasd bookd from the whispernet network so no network is needed. You just search for books I believe. YOu can share 5 devices to your Amazon account so all five can download the books which actually stay in the account but copy to your kindle. My wife had the first one and broke it but now I am considering a tablet so she can do other things. Check out the whispernet downloads at amazon. Kindle fire is new but not quite as loaded and Nook color or tablet which allows borrowing books and adding a SIM card for more space. Just my 2c
