Very cool old bike. I'll have to look and see if I have any parts for it....hold on.... Nope...nothing here.

I think the issue is now resolved. Much of what you are suggesting is just not possible in the forum area. The current classifieds already do most everything you have mentioned.

As for Glacier, Eileen and I were there a few years ago. I don't remember the name of the hotel where we stayed but it was the one inside the park. Rustic but very clean and we really enjoyed it. No telephone and no televisions though. There is also a pretty decent restaurant connected to it. Road to the sun just shouldn't be missed. Beyond that, there are a lot of things to see and do in the area. Eileen and I did a whitewater rafting trip that was fantastic and at the end of it, they grilled great steaks there on the bank of the river. We really enjoyed it. Don't remember the rafting company either but it was right at the entrance of the park. Here is a pic of us with friends in front of the hotel inside the park. Like I said, it is nothing fancy but we really did enjoy it. The other picture is Eileen and I at the top of the Road to the Sun. I don't remember for sure but I think this was mid to late July.

Venture stumbling in high gear

120 in fifth? I don't think that mine would but I may be wrong. Now remember, my speedo is corrected so if you are going by the speedo, you are actually running about 111.6 when the speedo indicates 120. As for the problem we are discussing though, one other thing to check is that the boots are properly seated on top of the carbs. That caused major problems with mine when one boot had crept up and it was sucking air. -
Big Bore Kit inquiry

It's been several years since I installed the Dyna on my '99 but I THINK that Dyna recommended to not go beyond 7250 RPM unless you install heavier valve springs. I don't even remember now if I have mine set at 7250 or 7500.- 17 replies

Thanks but please don't get the wrong idea folks. I'm not complaining about there being too many posts. That's why we are here. I'm just trying to make it better for you and easier for us to maintain. I also just pruned the "Welcome New Members" forum. No reason for those to be there forever. They are to welcome the new folks here and I set it for 30 days. That one change got rid of more than 189 pages of threads and over 13,000 posts.

Venture stumbling in high gear
Freebird replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
110 MPH is probably about the top speed for these bikes in 5th gear. You just run out of torque in overdrive. It will actually run faster in 4th. -
No, either way it's the same process. You have to look at all of the 373,000 plus posts if you really want to decide which are worth keeping and which to delete. It's nothing new, just the nature of any forum. There is no way to automatically prune threads based upon keywords. For example, there is no setting to automatically search for and then remove threads with the word "Craigslist". You can do a search but then have to select and delete each thread manually. There is an automatic pruning feature built into the software that allows you to automatically delete threads that are over so many days old. That is a forum wide feature though which means that it would also delete threads in tech libraries and etc. that we don't want removed. Even many of the threads in the watering hole contain some good and relevant information that I wouldn't want to just automatically delete. Yesterday I installed a new feature that does allow me to auto delete messages over so many days old that is also forum specific. That is why I created the new area for the sale listings. I have set that single forum to auto delete threads after 30 days. I have set the Prayer Requests forum to automatically delete all threads older than 180 days. The "Testing" forum also deletes threads...after ...I don't remember what I set it for but it is less days than the others. Rides and Rallies threads go away after a year I think. So, it's getting there. So, this will help. for the watering hole, tech discussion, etc. though it is pretty much a manual operation to ensure that informative information doesn't go away.

Folks, I'm not saying that you don't have problems, you very well may have but I do know that you are not going to get strong acceleration if you are running 45 MPH in 5th gear. It's just not going to happen even with a perfectly running and well tuned RSV. You are way out of the power band in 5th at those speeds. If I needed to move out quickly at those speeds I would certainly be dropping to 4th and possibly even 3rd. -
Really sorry to hear about your problem Bob. I know that you've been through a lot already with your other foot and certainly don't need additional problems. Please know that you are in my prayers.

Just to be clear. We are not running out of space at this time. All is good. It's just about good housekeeping more than anything else. Eventually things have to be cleaned up and it takes a long time to do so. This is just one attempt to do that. I've spent close to 4 hours over the past two days deleting old Craigslist and For Sale posts that no longer have any significance and there are still hundreds to remove. The new area will prevent anybody from having to do that in the future.

No, you can delete posts but not entire threads. Once a thread has replies, it would then mean that you would be removing other folks posts also and that could, in some cases, be a bad thing.

Eck, I think we are on the same page but just to make sure that everybody else is. I don't want to delete ALL old posts. There is a LOT of useful information in them. It's just the for sale type posts that I want to get rid of. Most of them are completely useless after 30 days or so. Now, I've created a new area specifically for the for sale type posts and for those who feel the need to create a thread to let everybody know that they have listed something in the classifieds. It is NOT meant to replace the classifieds. Any for sale ads will be deleted. Short post to let us know that you have listed an item is fine. If you wish to post a link to your classified listing, that is fine also. The new area is specifically setup so that all posts there will be automatically deleted after 30 days. Any such posts made in any other area of the forum will be deleted. I thank you all for your opinions and suggestions. Most were very good but some are beyond my programming capabilities. Pop up windows, automatic posts triggered by a new listing in the classifieds, etc. Those are all good ideas but beyond my expertise and would be expensive to have somebody do custom coding to accomplish I hope that this is acceptable to everybody and will make it easier for all of us.

OK folks. I have no answers, only questions. Once upon a time in the early days of this forum, I had a "Classifieds" topic area right here in the forum. That worked fine for the most part except that when somebody sold an item, they never posted that it was sold and it became full of items that had been there for months and/or years and nobody knew if it was still for sale or not. Even if it WAS marked sold, it still required me or one of the moderators to constantly go through the ads and delete the threads for the sold items. I determined that a better solution would be the classifieds software which I then purchased and installed. The advantage of the classifieds software is that items are automatically deleted after a pre-determined time unless the seller renews the ad. It really is the best way to do it except for one problem..... People who post their items in the classifies most often feel the need to then come to the forum and post that they have listed their items in the classifieds. That completely defeats the purpose because we are right back where we started, we have thousands of posts of items that we don't know are still available or whatever. Those post end up being here for years and do nothing but take up space, slow down search functions, etc. I've been trying to clean things up a bit but it's a slow process. This morning I did a keyword search for the word "Craigslist" and found over 600 threads of things like "seen on Craigslist"....since ads on Craigslist only run for about 30 days, almost all of those threads are useless now. I've deleted hundreds of threads this morning but still have a long way to go. I haven't even started on the "added to the classifieds" or "for sale" type threads yet. There are hundreds of those also. So what is the solution? A forum area dedicated to "seen on Craigslist" type ads? At least they would all be in one place and I wouldn't have to search the entire forum for them. I could just delete any in that folder that are over 30 days old. Same for "listed in the classifieds" type posts. They could be posted there also and deleted routinely. I'm looking for your suggestions. Unfortunately, there is no function available to automatically delete these forum posts after a certain amount of time. It has to be done manually, that is why they are best kept in the classified section but that does no good at all when a member feels that he has to post it here also. It would be easier if I just did a search, say for "Craigslist" and then just delete them all in one click but not all are items for sale. Some are discussions on how to search Craigslist and various other discussions. I now have to search and then click on and read most every post to determine if it needs to be deleted or not. It takes several hours to do.

Well...to be honest...it was those air box covers that prompted me to buy the carb covers...I mean....after I bought the air box covers, they were begging for the other matching bling. I will be selling a pair of smooth air box covers but the chrome is flaking in several places. I was planning to put them on Ebay. They would have to be re-chromed though if they are to look good.

Oh YEA? Well you're not getting your mugs either. well...not tomorrow anyway.

Thanks for the delay. I'm going to really enjoy those covers.

Anyone looking for a First GEN???
Freebird replied to bluerstd08's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Same thing happened to me a few years ago. I saw a first gen on Ebay with a really good buy it now price. I corresponded a few times with the owner. The pictures looked fantastic and he absolutely swore that the bike looked just like it had rolled of the showroom floor. So, I did a buy it now. I'm glad I didn't pay immediately. I was going to get it within a couple of days so just got cash to take with me. As soon as I drove into the guys driveway, it was obvious that he had completely misrepresented the bike and that the pictures were very old...if even of the same bike. I got out of the car and he had a huge smile on his face. He said something like ..."See...is it not perfect just like I told you". I wanted to explode but simply told him that the bike was a pile of crap and that there was no way I was going to take it. He didn't like that much but I suppose he could tell that coming back with any smart remarks or objections was NOT in his best interest. I had just drove a good distance into New York pulling a trailer...probably spend $60.00 for gas and was not very happy about it. The think is, he put it right back on Ebay...same false representation...and it sold for more than I had been going to pay for it. THEN....I saw later that they buyer left him great feedback. I guess when two fools meet....and all that stuff.... -
I agree. I'm certainly not sure that I am correct but I just never run the gas out of the carbs. I add the Seafoam or other fuel stabilizer and then just run it long enough to ensure that the stabilized fuel is in the carbs.

Great slide show Phill. Really did enjoy it and looks like you all had a great time. Wish I could have been there. Now you all need to saddle up and ride up to my maintenance day in June.
