Good idea. I copied it to the "Known problems and things to look for" area of the tech library.

I can't believe that it has no bids. I'm really surprised.

Do we have any professionals in the Safe Business?

I agree with the battery powered ones. Some of the new LED models are plenty bright and draw low current so the batteries should last a long time.- 19 replies

I had an electric smoker years ago and it worked very well. The heating element finally burned out. For whatever reason, I never did replace it and a couple of years ago finally bought a new combination unit. It has a gas grill on the left, a charcoal grill beside that and the smoker box on the side of the gas grill. I really do like it. The electric smoker was easier though.
-
Yep, it worked this time Peggy and very cute pictures.

Are you using Firefox? Firefox does not show the red x on my computer but IE does.
-
To the best of my knowledge, you will not be able to use it without activating the phone. Jailbreaking allows you to use a phone on a different carrier than the one that the phone was purchased from and sometimes to install software that could normally not be installed but I don't think there is any solution to allow it to be used unactivated. I haven't researched this so maybe there is something that I am unaware of.
-
Peggy, It's not showing for anybody else. Did you link it from somewhere or upload it as an attachment? Should work either way unless you linked it from a folder on your computer, email or somethig like that.
-
Well, while it may not work 100%, it likely works to some extent. If they do it like the do the red light cameras in most places, they really won't care so much if it works 100% or not. Most of the red light cameras, at least the ones around here, are installed free of charge to the cities. If I remember correctly, it is an Australian company. They install the cameras free of charge and then the revenue from tickets is shared between the company and the city. So what it it is only 50% effective? The city is still making money with no or very little cost. Probably some administrative costs is all.

It sure wouldn't surprise me to see it showing up elsewhere. Can you imagine the local revenue that it would generate say at all the various bike weeks?
-
I think that your conclusions were well stated and honest. You clearly identified the shortcomings of how the survey was presented. Good job.

Dano needs our prayers
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Great news folks. I got a message from Rose last night that Dano will be going home on Friday. I know that he will be so much more comfortable at home. He still has a lot of hard work ahead of him before his recovery is complete but he is making great progress. -
Seats are the hardest thing I know of to recommend to another rider. I had the stock seat on my '99 and hated it. I then tried the pillow top off a later model and hated it. I then bought the Travelcade Road Sofa and hated it worse than any seat I have ever owned. I then found a used Corbin and have been pretty darn happy with it for many years now. They are not for everybody but it's the best seat FOR ME that I've ever owned on any bike. It does take a few thousand miles for it to break in for you though. One seat that I haven't tired because I really never liked the look of it that much but I have heard that it is very comfortable is the Russell Daylong. I would like to try one at some point.

has anyone tried this air filter set-up?
Freebird replied to reddevilmedic's topic in General Tech Talk
Different filters but similar idea to what was on the '89 that I had with the VMAX conversion. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=337024&postcount=40 -
If you are talking about the tech libraries, they are read only. This, tech talk, is where you would ask your questions.

Well, I will be completely honest. I DID download Karaoke Anywhere for the Iphone JUST in the interest of research to help our friend. It seems to be a pretty good app although I've never done Karaoke. From their website, it appears that it will be available for the Android very soon.
-
Is Soundhound an actual Karaoke app? I haven't tried I thought it was more for searching for songs. What I mean by a true Karaoke app is that you don't sing along with the artist, it just plays the track with no voice added. If you do a Google search for Android Karaoke there will be a few come up. Unfortunately, most of them have pretty poor reviews. There is one for the Iphone called Karaoke Anywhere and it gets good reviews for the Iphone. It is not yet available for the Android but their website says "coming soon". http://www.karaokeanywhere.net/android/

New guy on the block
Freebird replied to DarkLeftArm's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
All of the suggestions are good but personally, I think I would trailer it home. YOu are correct in that the gas in the carbs has likely evaporated. Todays gas can leave some ugly stuff in the carbs though. I don't know where the bike is located but there is chance that the last gas had ethanol in it. The suggestions about Seafoam and other gas additives are good and may work but not if the jets are completely plugged. For the additives to work, there typically has to be some kind of flow through the jets. If there is flow, then they do a good job in cleaning up any varnish and etc. but if there is no flow, you will likely have to completely remove the carbs and tear them down. You may get lucky but I think you are taking a real risk. -
Now that is amazing to me. I had no idea that it had been that long. I've had a cell phone for probably 20 years but I just started texting, reluctantly, a couple of years ago.

I replied to your duplicate post in the other thread. I'll leave it there. We don't need another thread debating how great Steve Jobs was or wasn't.
-
and once again you try to give Steve Jobs credit for yet one more thing that he wasn't the first to implement. The first App store was actually created by a company named SalesForce about year before Apple first did it. A kill was put on this thread because people got tired of seeing it at the top. This will be my last reply to it also. The entire thread is just full of information that is incorrect and easily refuted but to be honest, I don't think that anybody on this forum really cares.

I agree that the maps work pretty well. The maps on the Blackberry are actually pretty good also. It's just that I have a bit of difficulty seeing them. My laptop is always mounted right beside me on a RAM mount in the company car. It's much easier for me to see the maps on the 17.3" laptop screen. My eyesight isn't what it once was. Especially since losing sight in my right eye. Some of the addresses don't even come up on Google, my GPS or my Streets program. I can often find something close though and then find crossroads and etc. to help me find what I'm looking for.
-
Dennis, I don't know if you still have or ever had an Android but if so or for anybody else looking, you can use PDAnet. Yes, I heard that AT&T was warning and penalizing users but the new version supposedly hides the fact that you are tethering. I use it on my Blackberry and it works very well. I don't use much data because I basically just use it when I'm traveling and find myself in some remote area a and need to look up something like an address that my GPS or Microsoft Streets is hlaving difficulty finding. I can often enter the address and use Googe Maps to find them or find their website for more information. Sometimes I will check my email. Most of the time, I can find WiFi access somewhere. McDonald's, Starbucks, some Burger Kings...many places have free WiFi and all the hotels where I stay have WiFi or hard wired internet in the rooms. So tethering is not something I need a LOT...but when I need it...I really need it. For now, I'll just keep the Blackberry on my personal account for such times. I just have to think about what I will upgrade to at some point. http://junefabrics.com/android/index.php

I know that this is going to really surprise you....but you and I are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one single issue. You may be correct...maybe Apple and the carriers huddled up and made that decision but the carriers didn't huddle up with LG, Motorola, Samsung or any of the other manufactures. The only issue is that Apple demands that you use ONLY software from their app store. They want complete control and from the reviews that I've read, some of those apps have caused some major problems so I really don't think that Apple does such a fantastic job vetting those programs. The many reviews that I've read are full of reports about some of those programs causing some major problems and crashes. Yes, they check them well for content but not necessarily for proper coding. Yes, it is the carriers who are greedy. I have data plans on the Iphone and on my Blackberry. I have an unlimited data plan on the Blackberry because it is grand fathered in. I'm not sure what plan the company bought for the Iphone. The fact that the carrier wants to charge you $20.00 or more per month for you to tether a phone to your computer should be illegal and I think that it eventually will be. As long as you don't exceed the data that you have contracted for, they should have no say as to whether you are doing it directly from the phone or tethered to a computer. You are already paying for the data. Apple is the ONLY one that doesn't allow you to install a program that allows you to get around that. I do agree with you that it's all about the money. The carriers want to rip us off by demanding more money to use something that we are already paying for. Apple is greedy as heck because they want a cut of any apps that a user buys and installs. Can you even start to imagine all the lawsuits if Microsoft demanded that only software downloaded from Microsoft.com could be run on a computer with Windows? Yes, I have heard of Cydia. My son used it to jailbreak his previous IPhone. They don't yet have a jailbreak for the Iphone 4s though. Hopefully it is coming soon. I'm going to replace the Blackberry in the near future but it likely will not be with another Iphone. If Cydia comes up with something, I may reconsider but at this point, it will likely be a Droid. There are some things that I like about the Iphone. Right now it is docked to my Bose Soundock, connected to my Wifi and streaming some good music from Pandora. I can also do that with my Blackberry. I can't dock it but I can connect it through the back of the Soundock to the auxiliary port. I'm sorry but so far, this Iphone has just driven me further away from being a fan of Apple. They control what software I can use, no micro SD card slot to expand the memory and some other things that I miss also. I'm sure that I will get used to it and may even come to really like it but so far..........it's just another phone.
-
Well, I didn't power it up and activate it. It came to me pre-activated from my company. I understand what you are saying about it being the carriers that require the data plan, but it is APPLE who controls what programs are available through their app store. It is THEIR fault that I am unable to download and install PDANet on the Iphone. I'm sorry but I just don't get it. Apple, they used to be the "anti-establishment"...etc. They are the only one though that try to completely control what you can and can't download and install on their phone. Amazing. The phone is fine, I just really didn't need a big brother with it.
