  1. Not springs, glasses. I know there are several on here that as part of the maturing process have gone to wearing glasses. For a long time now I have used reader type glasses and they work good at that narrow plane of focus they are designed for. I have again decided to try progressive lens as I really don't care for bi-focals, not because I am vain, but they are aggrivating and after some minor tweeks in my cataract surgery, my distant vision is very good. This is actually the third time I have tried the progressive lenses in about 12 years and have not done too good so far. One of the problems I had was due to me picking out a larger frame with bigger lenses and I seemed to have to do too much tilt to get into the bi focal part. This time I got smaller frames and it seems better. The problem with these glasses is I seem to have a fairly narrow strip up the middle that is in focus for distance. If I look just a little off center, I am out of focus, and remember, this is across the top, and normally to me the entire area across the top should be in focus for distance vision. so, I am looking for a little feedback for those that may be able to help. I am going back by the VA in the next day or so and talk to them. RandyA
  2. If I ever win the lottery, there will be a 1987 GNX Grand National in my garage. RandyA
  3. At the moment I have four, two male, two female, all fixed. My future ex may be able to take one when she gets her appartment, so you can have all you want. RandyA
  4. Several years ago I took the cover off my stock seat and took it to an upholsterer and he replaced the front section near the tank cover for $5. I put the cover back on and it did fine. It was not hard to do, just a bit of work. RandyA
  5. I did finally replace the front springs with progressives last summer and I did not use any spacers. With the shocks topped out with the front tire off the ground, without a spacer, the height of the spring was about where the threaded insert bottomed out. This is in essence no preload. But, it still has the front of the bike higher than it was. I have thought about sliding the forks up some now that I do not run any air pressure and I can remove the air sleeve, but there is very little room before the fork tops start to hit the grills above them. I am also concerned about losing shock oil through the air hole in the fork tube. As I am losing more weight, I need to start looking for a bigger girlfriend to equal things out on the bike. RandyA
  6. Mini, I was very hesitant to open this post, but my curosity got the best of me. RandyA
  7. Hey, my inseam is so short that my feet barely reach the ground, even when I am not on the bike. The thing that has helped me the most is I picked up a Corbin seat off ebay that needed some repair and when I had the cover off, I scooped out about an inch and a half of foam. It is also much more comfortable than the stock. I also tweek on my rear shock pressure and run about 25 to 30psi one up and up to 65 when two up and pulling the camper. It did make it a bit more of a problem when I installed the Progressive springs in the front forks, but I am getting used to it. The main thing is just being very aware of where you are stopping and where you have to put your feet down. RandyA
  8. I rarely play the lottery, but if I was a big winner, I would be a big participant at Barrett Jackson. RandyA
  9. I honestly do not think I would be sitting here right now if it had not been for my air horns. There were some real close calls that the ONLY thing that got their attention was my air horns. And these were events I could not have avoided. I wish more of us would get serious about air horns. RandyA
  10. I'll be thinking about you buddy. RandyA
  11. Some states will allow a title off a bill of sale, but with one bill of sale only for the entire bunch probably would not work too good. RandyA
  12. Hey Ryan, Glad you are one of us MKI guys. Given your's is an 85, I am curious as to the last four of the serial number. This is because there is a cutoff point where the 2nd gear problem that is so common on the earlier bikes was fixed. I don't remember the exact number, but for some reason 1413 or something close to that keeps coming to mind. Maybe someone will give us both an update on this. RandyA
  13. Alive!! The new Kenny Chesney song "I'm Alive" fits me to a "T". RandyA
  14. One other thing to look for is to see if a throttle cable has been pinched. SGN can fill you in on this. There is a point where the cables can get pinched if they were not routed correctly. RandyA
  15. I wish you and Lonna the best Squid and am glad your dad is doing better. You know you have a bunch of prayers and well wishes going for you. RandyA
  16. Would a week or more be too long for you? I say this because not only is the time on the BRP wonderful, but there are a bunch of things to explore along the way. There are many small motels that are definitely motorcycle friendly. These are places you can leave your trailers and explore some really neat rides. An example of this would be in the Little Switzerland area between Boone and Asheville. There are several small motels there along with the Little Switzerland Chalet, which has areas set aside for motorcycles. If you stayed in that area, the wonderful riding roads are really great. It is not far to Mt Mitchell, which is the highest mountain east of the Mississippi. Dropping off the mountain in either direction on 280 between Mt. Mitchell and Little Switzerland is a great ride. East is known on here as the Tail of the Rooster and to me is a better ride than the Tail of the Dragon. Off the west side takes you down to Carolina Hemlocks Park, a great place to camp and swim, especially snorkel, but I must warn you, the water is a bit on the cool side. You may wonder where things are hiding. There are a lot of good places to eat, some are a little pricey and many are mom and pop places. There are some great walks to waterfalls and vistas to see. There are many neat mountain towns within 10 miles or so of the parkway. Also, there are several members with in an hour or closer to the BRP and may want to join you for a visit. RandyA
  17. OK, I also just reread the post and am having a hard time figuring out where you are coming from. I also know Eck and he truly is a great guy. He is a very compassionate and caring man. But we need to quit saying that because he don't need to get a bigger head than he already has. He is already having a hard time putting his helmet on. Not to imply you are a fathead Eck, but if the helmet fits(actually, too tight), well, you know what I mean. RandyA
  18. Well, I cranked her up again today and took about a 40 mile ride. She really does like this cool weather as it was about 56º. I just had to crank it on a couple of times and boy did she run strong. Today did put a bit of a dent in my PMS. RandyA
  19. The other day when we had a high of about 22º, I warmed my car to change the oil and while out on the carport, I started the bike. I turned on the ignition key, flipped the kill switch about 6 times, pulled the choke lever about 3/4 and hit the button. About a second later, it fired to life and ran about two seconds. I hit it again and it again fired to life and ran surprising well. I let it run until the temp gauge got close to the red and shut her down. With what I am going through in my life right now, the good Lord knew how much I needed to hear that sweet sound. RandyA
  20. As they say, "Live's a bit$h, and then you die" RandyA
  21. Yes, I have heard this for a long time and have also told kids this. The rumor has it that they had to take advantage of very little time available. Not much time for romancing. Yammer, given your professional involvement in the prison system, is it ok that I quote you to confirm this rumor, so we can make it a fact? RandyA
  22. Last year or so we tried to set up a meet and eat around Townsend and it ended up being the longest running post for it never to happen. I took over after someone else suggested it, but could not get it going. I am a couple of hours away and love that area. RandyA
  23. As I said in the response to your PM, that date is fine with me. RandyA
  24. Yesterday, it barely got above freezing after ten days in a row below freezing with night temps to 9º. Our normal highs here are about 44º for this time of year. This has been the longest time below freezing here on record. Yep, it's a ***** down there when you have to put up with that oppressive heat and humidity in the summertime and then cold too. I think I will just stay in these beautiful mountains of east Tennessee. RandyA
  25. Wow, awesome is just not enough and thanks Steve for adding your great story. I know what you mean Yammer, somebody must be burning something here at work too. RandyA
