Carb Overhaul Costs & Jetting
gibvel replied to Greeny's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Around here, with the standard shop charges, they will quote you $100.00 a carb so about $400.00 to do the carbs. -
Yes they do but they don't have the sizes that these bikes take. Mostly Sport tires.

Squeeeeeeeeeeky forks
gibvel replied to FreezyRider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
WD40 is too expensive??? How much are the .44 Mag. shells? If they're cheaper than WD40 maybe he should just give his forks a shot of those!! -

Tim, Let us know what your mileage before and after were, for sure. May have to come to your place for a carb maintenance day sometime soon. -

Do you treat them the same way? -
Believe you'll have to take off the tank and the breather box (surge tank) assembly as well.

The plugs are called Blind Plugs # 16G-13569-00-00 They are #3 on the "Intake" list in the fiche. The clip that goes with these are #4 Clip #90467-10039-00 Now, this is just a guess as to the other hoses. But there are 2 hoses on the "Air Induction System" fiche that look to be right and they show only one connection to the AIS. They are parts #53 Hose (L685) #90445-09J2-00 and #19 Hose (L985) 90445-086K4-00. The clips that go with these are #54 Clip #90467-08092-00 Like I said, the last parts are just my thoughtful guess. Maybe someone else can look at the fiche and see if those make sense to them as well. These two hoses both go to the "Air Cut Valve Assemblies" on one side. As others have said, however, you may just be better off taking the hoses into an auto parts store and getting some vacuum hose. Good luck and let us know how things come out.

oil pressure light came on
gibvel replied to mother's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Check the owners manual. It should tell in there if it is a level or pressure light. But if I had to bet I'd say that it's a level light. I think Mamma Yamma likes to do things the same on their bikes. Besides, you say that you can keep it from happening by filling it to the 3/4 mark so this sounds like it's a level thing. EDIT: Just looked up the 1998 XV1100 owners manual and it says that the light is an "Oil Level Light". A note in the manual reads. "Even if the oil is filled to the specified level, the indicator may flicker when riding on a slope or during sudden acceleration or deceleration, but this is not abnormal" So I think your Virago is good to go. -

First off, it is not an oil PRESSURE light. It is an oil LEVEL indicator. Second, were you in a banking turn of any kind or a hill? High rev situation? If you keep your oil level about half way up the sight glass (which is where it should be if you don't want oil in your breather box ) then it might just be a fluke. My 89 would come on as I got onto the highway coming down a steep, sharp right hand cloverleaf on ramp and got on it to get into traffic flow. It would then go off. I'd say you're probably okay as long as it goes back off and your oil level is where it should be. Change oil and see if that helps the situation. -
Get a good heavy dose of Seafoam (full can into a tank with about a gallon or two of gas) into the carbs and let it sit over night. Then fill the tank and see what happens. I'd do this before changing the plugs as this could foul the plugs. The bike will smoke considerably when you start it back up though.

Yeah, the V-Twin is the 20W-50. The Racing 4T is the 10W-40.

Let us know if there's any change.

Specifically either the PL14610 or the PL14612. I use the PL14610 because it's the longer of the two. It doesn't look like it will fit but, trust me, it will fit in there.
