1. I can only hope that when I hit a deer I am able to come to this site and write about it. I have been thinking about carrying a rifle with me. That should keep the deer outa sight... at least it works during hunting season! Everyone be safe...
2. Jeff, I stand corrected.... I looked back through my online orders and I ordered the RED Light POI last June and I did pay $25.00. Sorry, didn't mean to be misleading. I did, however, get the WALMART POI's (you might be a redneck if...) for $5.00, Cracker Barrel POI's for $1.00, Five Guys Burgers POI's for $1.00, the one I said I wouldn't pay $35.00 for..... Starbucks POI's... I did get that one for $30.00, and National Parks POI's for $10.00. The bundles are a good deal if you add up individual prices but they include a LOT of POI's that I don't want taking up extra space. Just a few days ago I also purchased some Mad Map tour downloads for the South East. We may try them out next weekend, weather permitting. Anywho, sorry about the wrong price....Jerry
3. Jeff, I ordered mine through GPS POI US about a year ago... looking at their website now you are correct, price is $25.00. When I originally purchased it the price wasn't that high. Jerry
4. It would take up WAYYYY to much memory to include each and every restaurant, gas station, shopping center, etc. You can purchase bundles of POI's including food, gas, shopping or specific POI's i.e. starbucks, Ruby Tuesday, etc. Of course there is a "nominal fee" for this updated, more accurate, specific info. My wife and love Starbucks but I'm not gonna pay $35.00 for the file that gives me every Starbucks in the U.S. Depends on how easy you want to find things. I did purchase the Red Light Camera POI list. Once downloaded it gives me a warning that I am approaching a intersection with Red Light Cameras. (Not that I run red lights) It was like 5 bucks. Everytime there is an update they are automatically emailed to me. I just download to the Zumo. I do like the fact that you can enter how many miles you get to a tank of gas. It then warns you when you are getting low and gives you the option to route you to the nearest gas station. The bluetooth aspect is also good. I love my Zumo (my wife calls it JerJer) and won't leave home without it. The prices are coming way down since a year ago but it's worth every penny! Jerry
5. Brian, I traded my 07 Nomad 1600 for my 08 RSV. As most will say each bike has it's pros and cons. IMHO... the Nomad IS lower and more comfortable at a stop BUT I'm usually not stopped that long. It has a longer gas tank (but only 5 gal v the RSV 6 gal) and the whole feel of the bike is more stretched out. I did NOT like that the saddle bags opened from the side. I also don't feel that it was as responsive on the twisties as is the RSV. With the RSV I feel a bit more cramped in the saddle BUT the stock seat is THE most comfortable stock seat I ever sat on. (Nomad stock seat sucked and was replaced with a Mustang w/backrest). I had installed a quadzilla fairing on the Nomad which really added to the looks. I had also been fitting a trunk for the back. That was one of the reasons I traded it. The RSV had everything I was trying to retro fit on the Nomad. Also, my wife was driving an 07 RSTD when I had the Nomad. She smoked me BAAAAd coming from a red lights. ( Just a man thing I guess) The RSV has way better engine performance and response than the Nomad 1600. My wife and I do distant riding on the weekends so the cruise control was another selling factor for me. My daughter rides 2 up with me on some trips and she fell in love with the RSV. She loves the music, intercom, but most of all she loves the seat. She says it is VERY comfortable. She claims she nods off at times. I have nothing bad to say about the Nomad (cept for the stock saddle) and at times I miss the 'stretched' out feeling but item for item and for touring 2 up I love my RSV. I owned the Nomad for almost exactly 1 year before trading it for the RSV. We have a good relationaship with the dealer so I didn't lose as much as I thought I would. All in all I'm glad I traded. Of course this is only MY opinion! Here is a pic of the Nomad the day I bought it and the RSV shortly after buying it. Jerry
6. Rider is a decent one but I have to agree with Brent. There is definitely a divider between American made motorcycles and Metric motorcyles. I've looked at the one about Baggers to notice the same thing... only Harleys. If there is always going to be a division between the two (American vs Metric), and I think there will be, then the Metric market needs a Bagger/ Touring magazines exclusively for Metric motorcycles. I would definitely subscribe to it.
7. I didn't take near as many pics as Bobbie but here are a few.... We (Kelly and I) had a blast. You guys are CRAAAAAAAAzy.... I love it!
8. As the last verse in the "Marine Hymn" states: If the Army and the Navy, Ever looked on Heaven's scenes. They will find the streets are guarded, By UNITED STATES MARINES! Semper Fi Brother...
9. My wife and I were cruising down the highway last summer and this HD was passing us. We looked over and waived and he and his nav just looked the other way and rode on. I have a couple of friends I used to ride with until they bought Harleys. One is just "obsessed" with having ONLY HD gear. Helmet, shirts, jackets, gloves, boots, etc all HD. His wife is the same way. He says it doesn't matter to him what you ride but he only rides with other HDs. He has become EXTREMELY arrogant since getting his Harley. The other use to have a VR. He and I rode to work together and on the weekends we were always finding places to ride. THEN... he bought his dream bike ... a Heritage Soft tail. We've ridden ... maybe .... three times together in the last year. At first he didn't want to put a lot of miles on the bike. (said it would affect the trade in value). I asked him if he was planning on tradin it in any time soon. It took him almost 8 months to get through the 'break-in' period, and this was during the summer. Anywho, he kinda hangs only with the HD riders too. They both laugh at my heated jacket and gloves and tell me I need to get a 'real' bike without a 'wimpy shield'. Some HD riders really don't care what you ride as long as you ride but for the most part the majority only associate with other HD riders. I read a sticker on a helmet of a HD rider that said, "I don't care how good it looks. I don't care how good it sounds. It's still a piece of metric SH**!" Say what they may... but I'm ridin comfortable ... year round... just Relaxin!
10. Just ordered mine. Everything went smooth... no problems.
11. Hey, if I don't have to work Saturday and you guys meet in the Kinston/ Goldsboro/ Greenville area then can Kelly and I come... please.... please.... please
12. I ordered my Polk 400's yesterday from Crutchfield. They had 1 pair listed under the scratch and dent for $39.00 (the covers are scratched) and I ordered a second set from their outlet for $44.00. I checked today and they still list the 400's for $69.00 new with a $20.00 discount, Outlet for $44.00 and none left from Scratch and Dent. I don't know what the difference between a reg order and the Outlet but the Outlet and Scratch n Dent sales are still guaranteed and can be returned. Ended up with 4 speakers for $83.00. They emailed me today and said the order was shipped this morning. So far I'm liking this Crutchfield place, will let you know if the speakers are ok .... Jerry ALSO, I have a referral code that anyone can use if they are going to order from Crutchfield's. It's worth a $20.00 discount on your order. If anyone is interested the first pm I get requesting the code can have it.
13. My wife rides with the stock 'solo' seat (passenger seat removed) on her RSTD and she likes it. We've ridin a couple of 6 hour rides from NC to Va. I haven't ridden on it though. Personally, every bike I have owned I have always replaced the stock seat with a Mustang seat with the exception of the RSV. The RSV seat is THE most comfortable seat I have ridden on. IMHO....Jerry:)
14. Thanks Jeff... I viewed the thread (lots of pics) I ordered the amp and speakers today. I'll let you know how it turns out! Again THANKS! ...Jerry
15. I just watched the video with my wife. Very SOBERING indeed. I agree that a lot of the accidents were preventable and that nearly all the bikes were sport bikes BUT it also includes us all. We can ride accident free for decades but it doesn't exempt us from a fatal accident. It only takes ONE mistake on a bike. Sometimes the longer we ride accident free the more complacent we become. Before my wife and starting riding we attended the MSF Rider Course as many of you have. Great course. One of the instructors made the comment: If you want to see how safety conscious people are then watch them while they walk. The safe ones constantly scan the area in front of them, are very aware and are ready to quick step to the left or right or stop to avoid someone who is not paying attention. "Muscle memory". Ever notice the ones who are pre-occupied with other things while the walk they bump into someone (who is also pre-occupied) and the two blame each other for not paying attention. That carries over to their driving skills as well! Be prepared for the "pre-occupied"! Anywho... Good video.... Ride safe! Jerry
16. You guys were talking about amps. What type of amps and any pics of installing amp in trunk? Thanks...Jerry
17. I just noticed today that my left lower fairing has a crack in it. About halfway down going about 2 inches towrds the inside. I can't see any areas where the lower may have been hit by anything. Has anyone else had this problem? The bike is just 3 months old... Jerry
18. George, I have a 94 F150, V-8 302 5.0. I use alldatadiy.com as a reference. It costs about $24.00 for your 1st veh and $14.95 for each additional. Anywho, in my truck it is referred to as an ECM (Engine Control Module) but when I pull up the location it is referred to as a PCM (Powertrain Control Module). It is located on the left side of the safety wall (right side as you look at the firewall). I am gonna try to post a diagram. I don't know if this will help... Jerry
19. Temps have to be above freezing. Won't ride in the rain if temps are NEAR freezing. Other than that everyday is a 'game on' day (unless the grand kids are here) and anytime I get on the bike is a pleasure ride!
