I agree with DELTARAT and GeorgeS. But...... the mechanicals can be fixed or repaired fairly inexpensively...it's your time..., but then afterwards 2ndgear could still up a bite you. It's the plastic that will cost a ton to replace, and this one looks like the plastic is pretty good?? Also it's a 1984 as the color scheme doesn't match up to 83. Buy it as a parts bike, do enough to check out second gear, and if it's good think about bringing her back.....

need help 93vr

Helpfull hint Lowell. When you remove the plastic and take the nuts, bolts, and screws off don't toss 'm in a coffee can. Put 'm back in where they came from. They all have tiny legs that we can't see, and they will make a break for it if given half a chance.... Also unless you put fresh gas and Seafoam in you pro'bly plugged up the carbs. -
Does anyone know if the 2ndGen sidestand will fit on a 1stGen???

Very Cool.... Thanks...

YEOUCH!! That's what I gave for mine. Now I don't feel so bad.... I just got thru looking at some of the pics I took right after I got it home, and the '93 looks a lot better than I remember. Not going to part it out now, but a repaint is definately in it's future.... I tried and sure screwed things up.... Just as soon as I get the '87 together I'll get on it..... Right after tweeking the '91...

I put a handheld CB on the '83 for the trip to Ft Collins. Wasn't worth a hoot. Couldn't hear a thing. We had a group of 4+1 riding together and I just followed the crowd..... An intercom setup would have been nice just to listen to the others yak. I don't know if the '91's CB works just yet, but it does cancel out the am/fm when the squelch is turned down, so that must be a good thing.....

OK Lowell. I gotta know. What did you have to give for it?

she just doesn't want to start
Condor replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My bikes sit outside in all types weather. The '83 gets cantankerous after a winter of very little use. But put a new set of plugs in and she's ready to go for another year. I've also found that after sitting if you give her full choke she won't start, but if I start to reduce the choke gradually as I'm cranking she'll fire at about half way open, and then respond to more choke as she warms up a bit. During the summer and lots of riding she responds to normal choke. I don't worry about getting water in the fuel during the winter. It's during the spring and fall with warm days and cool nights that the air in the tank expands and then contracts at night sucking in humid air, and you get water buildup. That's why it's a good thing to use an occassional shot of fuel conditioner, otherwise the water will cause rust to form on the inside bottom of the tank, and that's not a good thing. -
Well Lowell, she has been rode hard and put away wet. Hope you're successfull in bring her back to life, but boy it's gonna take some work... I thought my '93 was in bad shape, but you win....

Thanks for the input Mark. Once I start messing with the arm we'll see how it goes. Ideas and feedback are always appreciated.... I'll let you know what I run into. -

That's what I'm thinking. Plus the linkage on the 2nd sets ahead of the stator case while the 1st sets aft. We'll see once I get to reshaping it. I don't expect it to fit right from the git-go, but close is a good thing..... -

Yeah, I looked at that, and some pics of a second gen, and that may be the case, but we'll never know unless we try. The sides of the 1st and 2nd motor are basically the same configuration, and I feel the arms may be close, and a little persuading might get it to settle in where the old one went. The board sizes look very similar also. Time will tell....?? -

Yeah, thought of that, however it looks like Carbon_One has found one instead. You've got a PM Larry. Thanks...... -
Ahhhh!! Found it. The link doesn't appear on any search results pages which is usually the only way I get there from My Ebay page, just on the Ebay Motor home page. Thanks.... Life is good again....

I agree. The new-er layout sucks... This happened to me once before when it was in Beta mode, and they gave me the option of going back to the old layout, but this time around I can't find the RETURN link. I hope I'm not stuck with it....???

This is a 1stGen issue, but it's gonna take a 2ndGen part to cure the problem.... OK guys, be nice.... The heel toe arm on the Ventureline H/T on my '91 has about 9" between the pads. Too small of a spread. the pads actually sit over the floorboard and don't extend past the board like a 2ndGen's. The 2ndGen's shifter arm has a 13" span. I'd like to see if I can adapt one off a 2nd to make room for my big foot. I think it might fit. So..... if anyone has a used pedal arm laying around they no longer need I'd like to buy it off you.... Thanks.

I did the same thing Lowell. Bought a 93 project that had been dropped from a member here on the board.. I think he's moved on. Anyway it's still waiting in the wings and non-op'd. I replaced the front end plastic and painted. That's as far as I've gotten, and now it sits as other projects have eaten up my time. I guess the rule of thumb is don't ever by another 1stGen until the last one is finished and on the road. Now I'm seeriously thinking about parting it out???

When a paint shop or store matches your color how does the spectrometer deal with the fine metal flakes in the base coat. The '91 I have lists the colors as 'black blue/ bluish black', and all I could see was the jet black. So I thought there was another color that hadn't been put into our history records. Then...... I took a close look at the paint with bright sunlight hitting it and there are very tiny reflactiions of blue coming from the metalflake base. This must be Yamaha's idea of blue black??? The second color is more of a very dark gray, and it also has blue metal flake reflections in bright sunlight. My concern is when paint stores run a color match does it pick up those base flakes???

I have Bakers on my 1stGen, and those look to be very close, right down to the upper and lower chrome balls, and the price is a heck of a lot better. Looks like they'll fit on the lowers without... or with very little... modification. -
